Akari had been roaming rather aimlessly through the corridors mostly out of boredom. On this particular afternoon, she was feeling a little more restless than usual and decided to take a stroll throughout the castle hoping that she'd stumble across something interesting.
She was letting her feet do the navigating while she let her mind wander off into random thoughts until she came upon the rehearsal room. Her eye was caught by it since it was a room that she didn't recall ever going in, and she halted in front of it. She stared up the arched doorway for a few long moments contemplating on whether or not she should go in. Eventually, she made up her mind and settled on going in. She reached her small hand out and placed it against the door and gently nudged it open and then peeked her head inside. Once scanning it and coming to the conclusion that it was empty, she promptly slipped in and then shut the door behind her.

The room was quite spacious and she almost felt as if it swallowed her tiny presence. After a while of gazing at her surroundings, her eyes fell upon a piano towards the back of the room. Her breath hitched in excitement and she immediately rushed up to it. She walked alongside its front and ran her fingers down the keys reminiscing on how much she used to enjoy playing and how long it had been since she had properly sat down and played something. She then pulled out the small bench that was tucked away and took a seat.

Since hadn't gotten the chance to play in quite some time she knew that she would be pretty rusty but that didn’t bother her since to her knowledge no one else was around.
Her brow furrowed slightly as she thought of what she wanted to play.
Alas, she had thought of the perfect piece. It was one of the latest pieces that she had learnt so she remembered it pretty well.
After it was chosen she gently placed her fingers on top of the ivory tinted keys and then inhaled softly and began to play at a slow pace. She bit her inner lip lightly in concentration, although it was a simpler and easier adaptation of the song she needed to really focus to play it.
The notes consecutively escaped the piano and echoed throughout the room sweetly filling it with the tune.

Drew was excited to be at Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry. He had spent some time with his cousin, Rose, already. They had caught up and talked about things they couldn't in owls. He really had missed her. But today she was off doing something and so was Drew. He was exploring.

Exploring was always really fun to Drew- it gave him a sense of freedom, of wonder. And though he would rather have a tour guide, sometimes it was good to do things by yourself. He had done some exploring of the grounds, and today he was going to walk through the castle, simply doing nothing but explore.

Drew's ears picked up music, and he froze. It was beautiful. Where was it coming from? He walked towards the music, letting his ears guide him. He came to the rehearsal room, taking in the beautiful arched ceiling and the piano from the back, the source of the flowing music. No. It wasn't the piano that was making the music- it was the the person was playing piano. A girl. With wavy, dark hair and pale skin. She looked younger, and Drew doubted she was older than a second year. In his opinion, she was beautiful. And she was. Her fingers were dancing on the piano keys.

Drew had never played an instrument, and his singing voice was nothing special, though he could carry a tune. Maybe it was mostly because Drew was more of a jock than someone who played an instrument, and he had just simply never been bothered to learn it.

Apparently the girl hadn't seen him approach, but he was a couple yards behind her. He wasn't hovering right over her, but he wasn't too far away, either. "That was beautiful," he commented. His voice was just starting to get lower, and was accompanied by an American accent that marked him as an Ilvermorny student. Or maybe just someone that was from America, or had American descent. You never know, really. He was also signifiantly taller than Akari, even if she stood up. His mouth was quirked up into his sly, casual smile. He decided to make conversation with the pretty girl. "Where did you learn to play like that?"

Akari's eyes were glued to the keys of the piano and she was so focused on playing that she hadn't even noticed that someone else had entered the room. Once she pressed the last note concluding the piece, she heard a voice that she didn't recognize complimenting her. She jumped ever so slightly in surprise, not expecting anyone else to be in the room then whipped around to see who it was.

Her gaze moved upwards and she saw a tall blond haired boy standing a couple yards behind her. Her pale cheeks gained a light rosy colour as she locked eyes with the boy. She hadn't meant for anyone to hear her play, and so she felt a small wave of embarrassment rush through her body.
The boy spoke to her with an adorable accent that she assumed was American, and she quickly put two and two together and figured that he was an Ilvermorny student. Akari had yet to actually converse and interact with the students from the other wizarding schools and was quite curious about them.

Without realizing it she had been staring at him for longer than she intended to and still hadn't said anything or answered his question.
She quickly scrambled and finally piped up. "Oh thank you so much"
Then a tiny smile spread across her face before she continued.
"Er- My mum taught me how to play"

With a pinkish colour still prominent on her face she turned around slowly so her back was facing the piano and she was facing him. She wasn't used to hearing people that spoke with his accent and found it really delightful.
"Do you know how to play?"
She asked attempting to carry on the conversation.

Drew had always thought of himself as irresistible, but not that irresistible. The girl was staring at him just a little longer than was socially normal, though it didn't faze him and his confidence was not diminished.

"I don't currently, but if I ever want to, I'll know who to ask," Drew answered, his smile widening with his remark. So smooth, Drew. "Well, that's not entirely true. I was forced to learn "Mary Had a Little Lamb" by my little cousin. Compared to you, though, I know nothing." Ah, yes. Addison was seven and she had preformed a concert to their family, followed by constant nagging of her wanting to teach someone. Drew had volunteered first, mostly to save everyone else from the nagging and the lecturing that they all knew would accompany the "lesson" Addison was "offering."

"What's your name?" If only there was a name out there that was worthy of this charming lady. Drew was intrigued. He was not a ladies man in any way, and all the girls he knew were just his friends, though it was not improbable that they had a crush on him. Actually, it was very probable that they did, though that thought had never occurred to Drew. Though this girl... this girl was different. Awkward and innocent-looking, yet extremely charming in a way. "I'm Andrew Lycan, though you can just call me Drew. I'm from Ilvermorny, if you didn't guess."

Even though she didn't ask, Drew said, "I was just exploring. Hogwarts is really big and very... what's the word... fascinating." Rose would be proud that he used such a complex word in everyday talk. Drew had dubbed those words "essay words," meaning that they were words that should only be used in an essay. And only if you even knew words like that. Why would anyone in their right mind use it in everyday talk? Yet here he was."It's my first time here."

Akari internally got annoyed at herself for having acted so timid and awkward in her first interaction with this boy. She had no clue what had come over her but she knew she needed to pull it together fast since she didn't want him to think that that is how she actually was like all the time. Because it wasn’t.

"Now now. Don't cut yourself short, "Mary had a little lamb" is quite the accomplishment for someone who doesn't play at all" She responded to him with a small laugh. Which was completely true. She supposed that for people who play other instruments it is fairly easy to learn the piano, but speaking from previous experience when ever she tried to teach a tune to someone who had no musical background, most of the time they had trouble with either memorizing the order of the notes or the placement of their fingers so it always made her happy to see them play correctly no matter the difficulty of the piece.

"My name is Akari Kato" she answered him as the previous blush she had on finally started to fade away and her complexion returned to its usual pale tone.
So he was an Ilvermorny student. How neat was that? Questions for him flooded her brain as soon as he confirmed to her that he was indeed an American student such as what their castle is like and about the houses that they are in and what they resemble plus, how they are sorted... but she wasn’t about to bombard this boy all at once so she placed them on the back burner and after he introduced himself she replied sweetly and cordially.
"Pleasure to make your acquaintance Drew".

Exploring huh? Well, that was also an area Akari knew well. She had done it multiple times since she first arrived at Hogwarts and even had gotten lost on an occasion, but it was definitely worth it since she got to see and find things she probably wouldn’t have noticed otherwise.
"You're quite right, it is a rather fascinating place. I have really grown fond of it and all its marvellous nooks and crannies in the time I've been here." She informed him with a little hint of pride flickering in her dark brown eyes. ”Oh! Well then welcome. Is it your first time in the UK in general? Or just your first time here at Hogwarts?”

He laughed with her- usually Drew was not one to cut himself short, but it was the truth this time. The Mary Had a Little Lamb had really just been him plinking at the keys, thinking three, two, one, two, three, three, three. Absolutely nothing like the free performance Drew had been gifted just moments before. She seemed to drop her shyness with that cunning remark, either putting out a facade or her embarrassment at being found playing piano fading. Drew voted for the second one inwardly. First impressions are definitely not everything.

She asked him if he'd been to the UK before or if he just hadn't been to Hogwarts. Drew shook his head, launching into an explanation to her question. "It's my first time at Hogwarts, but I've been to the UK a couple times before. I went to the summer camp thingy earlier this year, so I came for that. I also have some family over here." Yeah, "here" had been a bit too vague, huh? Explanation wasn't the best word.

"So which year are you in? I would guess that you're not older than third year, but looks can be deceiving sometimes," he said, a hint of teasing in his tone. He didn't want to offend her one way or the other, even though he didn't put too much thought to it. There were only a few things that would faze Drew. Accidentally insulting someone was not one of them. Akari Kato was. Of course, she could be a demon who murdered newborns for fun, but Drew found her interesting- kind and shy and cunning and talented and pretty. She was a good person.

”Oo, that’s wicked” Akari replied with a small nod to his explanation, the awkwardness she first displayed was slipping away even more and at a rapid pace as their conversation progressed.
In her opinion, it was absolutely wonderful to have family that resides in other countries. Yes, it can be a drag to not be able to be with your own family a lot, but having an excuse to take a trip was always nice. She had actually briefly attended the summer camp that he mentioned but because she hadn’t been involved in any big activities and had only been there for a short time she decided that it wasn’t significant enough to mention.

It was his first time here at the Scottish school huh? She wondered what he thought about it and if it was really different to his. She adored the school in every way and didn’t think that any of the other ones could be better, so it was quite possible that he felt the same way about his own school.
"So, how do you like it here at Hogwarts so far?

She chuckled slightly at his question before responding ”I'm a first year”. Indeed, it was quite true when Drew said that looks can be deceiving, Akari knew this well from experience. She was a pretty petite girl so most people tended to assume that she was younger than she actually was, so it was a sweet change to have someone guess a bit higher rather than lower even though it was probably quite obvious she was on the younger side.
She was curious as to which year he was in as well so she reciprocated the question.
“And you? What year are you in?”

"Oh, I love it. It's really interesting, everything here. It's different than Ilvermorny, of course. I mean, the sorting ceremony? You and the houses get no choice in what house you're placed in? A hat tells you where you belong? That's so different, but so cool. Back in America, the houses choose us, and if we get chosen by more than one, we get to pick between them," Drew informed her. He did tend to ramble when he was sharing what he thought. "And it's kinda confusing to get around here, since the staircases decide to change and the castle's layout isn't entirely reliable, so I have gotten lost several times, but that's the fun of it, you know? It would be boring if it was just a normal school." Oh, Drew. Always living on the good side of life. And rambling. Rambling a whole lot.

"I think if I had to go to another wizarding school, I would choose Hogwarts. What about you?" he asked the girl. "And you don't have to say Ilvermorny just because I go there." He grinned at her knowingly.

She told him that she was a first year, which didn't surprise him, really. "I'm a second year. So we're not that far apart, but me being me, I definitely am wiser and more knowledgeable," he teased. He didn't mean that sentence at all, and it would be clear to Akari from his joking tone of voice and the expression on his face.

"So what Hogwarts House are you in?" He asked her, continuing the conversation. "At Ilvermorny, I'm a Wampus, which is the house that favors warriors, and represents the body. And, of course, it had to have me because of my beautiful ripped body," he joked, crossing his arms in front of his chest. "Do you think Beauxbatons and Durmstrang have houses? I've never heard of them having them."

"No way, the house chooses you? That's brilliant" Akari exclaimed to him and with an expression of amazement and curiosity. Although that was a little puzzling. She was a bit confused about how the house chooses you but, she decided not to ask. Maybe there is a head of house that picks the student?... Or the maybe even house itself? But how would that work? A house can't speak, or could it? Then again, a talking hat did sort the Hogwarts students so she definitely shouldn't scrap that thought completely.

"Honestly I would probably would chose Ilvermorny, from the little I have heard, it sounds pretty swell, and I like your accents. Or if not Ilvermorny, perhaps that French one, Beauxbatons I think it's called. " She responded.

She rose an eyebrow at him before she slightly narrowed her eyes at his comment and joked back. "And how are you so sure that you are 'wiser and more knowledgeable' than me?"

"I am in the house called Gryffindor, it represents courage and bravery along with nerve and determination" She pursed her lips ever so slightly and forced herself to suppress a small laugh at the boy's comment. The air of confidence that he held just lifted the spirits of the entire room.

Akari thought for a couple of seconds before she shook her head. "Not that I have heard of, but don't take my word for it since I know next to nothing about all the other Wizarding schools" It wasn't necessarily on purpose that she didn't know anything about other schools, it was just that for as long as she could remember she only ever cared about Hogwarts, so she never felt the need to learn about the other schools.
"Have you met anyone from the other two schools yet?"

She liked his accent? "Well, thank you."

Beauxbatons. What a French word. It was impossible for Drew to say the name of the Wizarding school without adding a fancy french flourish. "When I first read that word, I thought it was pronounced Bee-oox-batons, instead of the frenchy way, Bo-batons." He laughed, thinking about it. "My smart and cultured friend corrected me pretty soon.

She teased him back about being wise and knowledgeable. He was about to say something stupid and confident, but he couldn't think up a reason. He shrugged, saying, "Well... actually, you have a really good point there. It's very likely you are smarter than me."

Drew shook his head. "Nope, I haven't. Though I wish. It would be super cool to meet some person and compare our schools." He grinned at her, saying, "Though it looks like that's happening right now."

He cocked his head. "I heard you guys are allowed to bring your wands home for the holidays? But you're still not allowed to use magic?" He shook his head, confused. It made a whole lot more sense to him that Ilvermorny students weren't allowed to bring their wands home, as a precaution that they wouldn't use magic. I mean, they're teenagers- do you expect them to actually listen? "Why would they let you take your wands home if they don't want you to use magic? I mean, if they really wanted you to not use magic out of school until you're of age, why let you bring them home?"
