Accidental Mishaps PV Thora Larkston Finished

Katrina looked up from her book and looked around the Common Room. She was alone for only five minutes had passed since dinner. She left early not hungry enough for dessert. The book she was reading- A History of London- slid from her lap onto the floor. She quickly grabbed it and stuffed it into her bag. The clouds outside were an ominous grey, droplets of water hit the windows, she jumped when a loud crash of thunder shook the entire room. She hated thunder just about as much as she hated flames. She decided to go to the library.

The library was her one place to get away from it all. She packed her satchel with her Chestnut wand, the London book and a notepad. She entered the library and breathed in the glorious scent of old books. Most of the pupils time was spent here, it was more homey than her common room was. She walked into the large bookshelves in search of a new dragon book. She found the place relatively quickly. Her finger trailed along the spines searching for a book on the History of Dragons.

Katrina whipped around when she heard a creak behind her. She drew out her chestnut wand. Her heartbeat quickened, her posture stiffened, and she fought to stay silent. Footsteps sounded and Katrina lost her nerve. The girl tried to calm herself, but she hadn't heard anything until now. Upon entering the room she had looked and listened for anybody and no one had appeared. She peeked around the corner to see a shape crouched at the bookshelf. She couldn't control herself.

"Fumos!" Katrina yelled spinning her wand counter-clockwise. A jet of pale grey magic spiraled from her wand. The lion shook from terror and adrenaline and prepared herself for her next attack.

Accidental Mishaps PV Thora Larkston Finished
Thora wandered down the mysteriously dark hallway that was the library. Gazing up and down the several-story bookshelf in wonder, she frowned. Where was the book she was looking for? Her Defense of the Dark Arts homework needed a book on pixies, and it was, fortunately, not in her textbook. So here she was. In the library, frantically searching for the right book. Was it late? No. Did she skip dinner? No. Why did she want this book right now? Long story. Why was she so frantic? Thora was an overachiever. Her DADA homework was the only thing she had left, and of course, she wanted to finish it as fast as she could. Which, of course, she couldn't do without a book on pixies.

Giving each bookshelf a cursory glance, Thora walked quickly down the aisle. "Pixies, pixies, pixies," the redhead muttered under her breath. Where were they? Finally, her originally fruitless search proved fruitful. Underneath her hand, was the shelf on pixies. She didn't need a "everything about pixies" book--maybe just one with basic information would work. Crouching down, she scanned the shelf until she found a green-lined book. Gotcha. The brown, worn-out book had a bolded title across the front--Pixies. "Just what I need," the girl smiled. Studying the old book, Thora was suddenly startled by a rustle, just down the hallway. The dimly-lit library certainly made the figure look like some ghost. The Slytherin was just about to turn tail and free when "Fumos!" Smoke suddenly filled the air. Eyes watering, the redhead hacked and coughed, trying to keep the smoke screen away. Backing up, she pressed her back to the bookshelf. She knew Hogwarts had ghosts, but was this one out to kill her?

Fumbling for her wand, the redhead cried out a desperate "Tarantallegra!" as she collapsed on the floor, crawling backwards from the misty figure that was growing clearer by the second. Was this a person? Was it a ghost? She hated ghosts. They were so creepy... in fact had almost dropped dead in fright the first time she saw one of the wraith-like figures float through the Great Hall. Did ghosts dance? Thora was glad to see she would soon find out as, to her relief, a beam of light shot from her wand and smashed into the figure across from her. Once the threat was over for the moment, the girl grimaced. Whoever this person was, they were so in for it. They were in a library. They would probably be in so much trouble for letting out smoke around so many books. Now, Thora was scared out of her wits. trapped between the suddenly suffocating bookshelves holding realms of knowledge. Most would probably laugh at her shaking head to toe, or call her a coward. But fear fueled fury. And the red-hot fury spiraled inside her until it gave her strength.

Katrina shook with terror from head to toe. She wished she had done nothing and ran away. She was in for it now. If they caught her- Katrina gave a violent shudder. She was just about to run away when she heard a noise from the entity against the bookshelf.

"Tarantallegra!" With a shocking gust of magic, she began to dance. Katrina frantically tried to remember the spell that undoes it. What was it? Katrina thought she saw the thing move.

What could it be? Was it a ghost? No, they don't cast spells. Was it a hag? Katrina racked her brain for clues on what it might be. Her feet moved without her wanting them to. Soon her arms were flailing about. With great gusto she began to waltz with herself. With her arm by her side she raised up her arm with the next movement. She steadied herself.

"Flipindo" She cast the knockback jinx. She heard a sickening thud as the thing hit the wall.

What had she done? Katrina pointed her wand at herself and yelled.

"Finite Incantatem!" Her feet finally stilled as she waited to see what happened to the thing. Her eyes and mouth burnt with the smell of smoke. What had she done?

Thora gasped as she heard a shriek and footsteps that told her only one thing. Her spell had worked. The stomps were perfectly in time with a hidden beat, making it sound as if someone had cranked up a radio in the library. Relief flooded over the snake as she scrambled up, hacking from the thick smoke that had now enveloped her. Clutching her wand tightly, the girl turned around the corner to make a quick getaway.

Heart pounding, the girl twisted on her heel as her conscience caught up to her. Was she even allowed to use duelling spells out side of a duel? Had she seriously hurt someone? Well, if it was a ghost, obviously it couldn't be dancing... So it was some creepy murderer. Panicking, Thora crept even faster.

"Flipendo!" the voice floated out of the smoke. Oh great. This person was probably trying to kill her. Or at least hurt her bad. Gulping, Thora tried to run away as she felt herself being blasted back with the full force of a spell--she would know what the felt like, having been hit by the Knockback Jinx several times during a duel earlier in the month.

The entire world spun as the redhead flew backwards. She could literally see stars and floating objects as a sickening crack jolted her vision. The girl fought to sit up as her head spun, skull feeling completely numb. Standing up, she tried not to fall over as she wobbled on her feet. The last thing she needed was for this creepy person to hit her again.

Katrina heard nothing from the thing. She felt so bad.

"Lumos" Katrina muttered, her wand produced a glowing orb. She took a tentative step forward and gazed through the smoke. She stifled a rather violent coughing attack and took another step. She could see the crumpled thing stand up. A gasp escaped the Gryffindor. It was just a person, she could see green highlights on its robes.

"No, no, no." Katrina actually felt tears rise up behind her eyes. The girl was someone Katrina knew. What had she done?! It was Thora Larkston, a Slytherin second year that Katrina had met on several occasions and actually thought they were almost friends. She had thought the thing was a monster, not a student.

"P-please don't hit me. I-i am so sorry. It is j-just me, Katrina." The lion stuttered. Not so brave anymore? Her conscience teased her. Katrina knew this was the end of their friendship, she had no other possible friends.

Katrina walked close enough that Thora could see her. She placed her wand on the floor exaggerating that she didn't mean Thora any harm.

"I-I just freaked out. I th-though you w-were a hag or something. I really d-didn't mean to hurt you." Why did I use Flipindo? I could have done so many other things that didn't involve hurting Thora. Katrina stuttered horribly and felt the tear threating to fall. She cried so easily.

"Finite Incantatem" Katrina grabbed her wand and got rid of the smoke.

"I-I should bring you to the Hospital Wing."

Thora's vision swam in and out of vision as she tried to shrink away from the figure looming closer every second. Oh no. She was done for. What she wasn't expecting, though, was a young face to come peering out of the smoke. The red and gold badge emblazoned on the figure's black robes told Thora it was a Gryffindor. Seriously? The redhead didn't believe in stereotypes, but if she had expected someone from any house to go after her, she would've expected a Gryffindor.

The strange figure stalked closer. And then Thora recognized her. Katrina? Katrina Walker? As in the girl that Thora was slowly becoming friends with? Anger bubbled up inside the young snake as she struggled to her feet, wanting to confront the other girl. To her embarrassment, she crashed back to the ground, legs not cooperating. As Katrina stuttered out an apology, Thora's eyes narrowed. Was she supposed to feel bad for her? Or forgive her? Obviously, she wasn't thinking straight, but that girl was crazy. Although she had to have a reason for using Flipendo, nobody was supposed to use duelling spells outside of duelling club. Her thoughts and emotions warred as Thora thought. Should she forgive Katrina? Or stay angry?

This wasn't the time to decide, Thora thought as she stood up like a phoenix rising from the ashes (well, less majestically). At least the other girl was smart enough to bring her to the Hospital Wing. The redhead muttered a thank-you as she stood up, watching tears drip down Katrina's face as she dissipated the smoke. After all of this, the Slytherin thought, she would never trust Katrina again. Never.
