Really, the library was the best part of Hogwarts, no question, no debate needed- the shelves upon shelves lined with books upon books... a girl could lose herself in here, and that's exactly what Ami intended to do. Grabbing three books off the shelves at random, she surveyed the room to see if there were any empty tables. As per usual, there weren't any, so the redheaded Hufflepuff decided to try her luck with a quiet looking Slytherin boy sitting alone in the corner. Maybe he wouldn't mind sharing the table? She didn't have the intention of disturbing him.

Walking over to the boy, she rapped on the table sharply to gain his attention, and then asked quietly, "Is it okay if I sit here? The library's all full." As if to prove her point, Ami looked around the library again, confirming her conclusion from earlier. With a glance down at the three books she'd picked, to her amusement, they were A Human's Guide to Cats, Healing 101, and some random, ancient book appropriately written what seemed to be Ancient Runes. An interesting choice fate has given you... what new knowledge can you scrape from it today? she mused to herself, waiting for the Slytherin's response.

Lucien was lost in his book as he usually was not paying attention to anything going on around him. He had five books on the table but only three were open. Two of the open books were about herboloy while the third book was on potion making. He was scribbling some of the things he read on a piece of parchment beside him. The two closed books belonged to him and had no title or writing on the front, back, or sides. A plain black book with simply silver designs around the edges was sitting top of an almost identical book. The only difference was that the second one was white with gold designs. He was so lost in his studies that he didn't notice the girl standing in front of him until she spoke. The sudden break of silence caused him to jerk his head upwards nearly sending his glasses flying off his face. "Huh?
Oh, sorry I didn't see you there, um, yeah feel free to, uh, sit down. I don't mind."
He said while adjusting his glasses. He figured he should probably introduce himself, seeing as it was polite to do apparently. "I'm Lucien Avery Escanora, feel free to call me Lu or Avery if you please. I'd offer my hand to shake since it's common courtesy, but I, uh, I don't like germs." He said almost too quiet to even hear.

With a small smile, Ami said after Lucien had introduced himself, "I get the feeling that you won't appreciate it if I call you Lu-Lu, so I'll stick with Lucien." She wasn't surprised about the germ part, but was more than happy to take a seat at the table. Glancing at his stack of books, she nodded her aproval, flipping open one of her own books and skimming the table of contents. She'd flipped open the one on cats, and ran finger along the different chapters until she found one that caught her interest- Using Magic on Cats; The Positives, Negatives, and Everything in Between that You Need to Know.

With a start, she realized she hadn't introduced herself yet, and added hastily, "I'm Ami, Ami Procoppio. Pleased as punch to meet you, Lucien." Thirty seconds into their meeting and she was already obsessed with his name. This certainly was going to be a good meeting. Suddenly aware of Lucien's last name, she asked hesitantly, "A- are you related to Aravis Escanora, by per chance? She's in Slytherin, too..." Ami trailed off. She didn't exactly have the best relationship with Aravis, but maybe that would change, someday. She certainly hoped so.

Lucien laughed at the name Lu-Lu. "Feel free to calm me that if you want, I don't mind really, I mean after all I am named after..." The Raven haired boy said before trailing off. He gave a small smile forgetting that he was even talking about something. His smile almost immediately dropped at the mention of Aravis. If Ami had met the devil herself it either went really well or really bad. "Yes we are twins. I'm the older one." The Raven haired boy said with a sigh. Whatever Aravis had done to the poor girl didn't sound like a good thing. "What's she done this time? She didn't hex you or threaten you did she? Aravis and our younger brother Maven aren't the nicest or most pleasent people to be around. They are usually quiet cruel, I apologise for what ever she's done this time, it's not all her fault." Lucien was disappointed in his sister once again. He knew it wasn't her fault most of the time due to her illness and the ethings she went through at home, but she couldn't always use it as an excuse. He made a mental note to lecture the other Escanora later.

"What's she done this time?"
Ami froze at the question, and flashed back uncomfortably to when she'd first met Aravis. Yeah, it hadn't gone well... things that had been said and done that she sorely regretted, and the two hadn't talked since. "We... uh, we both weren't exactly exemplary students," she said hastily, not wanting to shift the blame entirely on to Aravis, because really, it wasn't all her fault. "I was kind of a massive butt-head, too," she admitted, embarrassed. Really, you could've been so much better... well, lesson learned, right? Ami paled as she remembered that she'd really only gotten worse, breaking Dorian's knee not long after the incident with Aravis. Wow, she really did suck as a human... Well, Amadea and Kyden were helping her get better, so lesson learned.

Sighing heavily, she glanced at the books Lucien was reading. "Herbology," Ami said with a satisfied smile. "Why Herbology? I mean, I've got nothing against it... but that doesn't look much like homework." And it didn't. The books looked far too advanced for their meager first-year level, and the plants described in the books didn't look like any Ami'd ever seen before, in both the Muggle and wizarding worlds.

Lucien noted Ami's expression as she talked about the incident. She didn't say much about it yet she did seem a bit paler than before. Lucien decided not to bug her about it any further. After all, his sister was bound to inform him of everything that happened. "Oh, um, Herbology. It's my favorite subject aside from potions. I was looking for a certain plant that could be used in abpotion I'm creating. I already found it a while back but I wanted to see if there was a better alternative to it." He said looking down at the books."You see, I've been working on a cure for Myopia and a cure for Schizophrenia I have Myopia and my sister has schizophrenia. I figured if I could rid her of it then maybe she wouldn't have such a big war going on in her head. After I get these both finished and successful I'll be working tonight a cure for Psychosis. My younger brother Maven had it, mental illness run in the family. Neither of my siblings are connected to reality." Lucien said with a sad smile. His siblings were the only thing he had to cling to. If something was to happen to either of them he wouldn't be able to handle it.

"Myopia, schizophrenia, and psychosis," Ami said slowly, studying the boy in front of her with newfound interest. It wasn't every day that kids their age threw around words like that... Ami decided at that moment she definitely liked this child and made up her mind to become friends with him, regardless of whatever Aravis had done to her and her pride. "Near-sightedness, a broken barrier between thought and behavior, and a disconnection with reality," she said quietly, knowing these three particular diagnoses all too well- she'd seen what PTSD could do to people. "Lucien, if you could find a cure..." Ami trailed off, a sad smile lining her eyes. "Imagine the people you could save. That would be incredible."

"Once you're done with that..." she continued, not done with her spiel yet. "When you somehow manage to cure depression or anxiety, call me." Ami winked at Lucien, running a hand through her hair self-consciously. There. She'd said it. The two biggest roadblocks in her life, laid out on the table plainly for Lucien to see. Bipolar depression and fluctuating social anxiety, both coming and going on their own timetable. Luckily, she wasn't in one of her "funks" at the moment, but both of them at the same time... it was unbearable.

"I want to save everyone I can. One thing my sister and I have in common.
We go about it in different ways however. I try to find cures for things that trouble people, while Ara...she thinks..."
Lucien trailed off again taking a moment to think. "Well, it's hard to explain really. She had a really rough childhood so she thinks if she can rid the world of evil by killing it off then she can have world Peace. Kind of like the war to end all wars. World War 2 Proved that to fail. Anyways, in, back to the point. I'll do my best to cure those as well. My mother suffered from both." He said shaking his head a bit. It was hard for him to talk about his family. He smiled a bit at the thought. "Anayways, um, what hobbies do you have- wait sorry no that's nosey of me you came here to read not chit chat." Lucien said quickly putting this shead down taking a key out of his pocket. He pulled his black and silver book towards him inserting the key in a small latch on the side that bound it together turning a few pages over.

Glancing down at her books, Ami realized she'd almost completely forgotten that she'd grabbed them in the first place. After all, she had come here to avoid homework... and she couldn't even do that right. "Right- yeah, I should probably start reading." Flipping the pages in her cat book to the chapter that had caught her eye, she leaned back in her chair and started to read through the text. Homework... what's that, again? Homework could wait a few minutes... or an hour. Or two. Or three. Books could really do that to a person- tear them away from reality for a bit, providing the welcome escape many sought after. That's why, in Ami's mind, so people loved to read.

Skimming through her book, Ami only looked up once to look at the book Lucien was reading. It was some black and silver journal-looking object, and... was that a lock? Huh, interesting. Only raising a skeptical eyebrow at the quirky object in the boy's hands, The red-headed Hufflepuff returned to her own feline ventures, knowing that it wasn't polite to ask what Lucien's book held inside. Who knew, it could've been a sketchbook or a journal, for all she knew.
