Annie loved the library. She suspected that she had been in here at least 20 to 30 times already. She did most of her homework here and often checked out a book (or five!) to either take back up to the Gryffindor Common Room or, if the weather was right, to the grounds to read under a tree. She looked around, breathing in the scent of books. She walked toward a shelf and picked up one book, then another. The Tales of Beedle the Bard! She hadn't read that in years! She put it on top of her stack. You are getting distracted, chided the little voice in her head. Annie rolled her eyes at it, but put down her books. She was here to find a book for homework. She was looking for A History of Magic. She had a copy, of course, but for the life of her could not find it anywhere. Annie scanned the shelves. It wouldn't be in the fiction section or quidditch. Ah ha, here it is. History. Annie ran a finger along the books on the history shelves. She located A History of Magic and pulled in off the shelf. Annie picked up her books and bag and headed over to a table.February 4th, 2021
After finishing her homework, Annie decided that she probably had time to get at least a couple more books. After wandered aimlessly around with no particular destination in mind, Annie found herself in a place she hadn't spent much time in; the shelves right around the restricted section. She had stayed away from this particular place for a reason- she didn't want to get in trouble! Yet she did occasionally wonder what kind of books it held. She was about to turn around when something caught her eye. A Gryffindor girl, Annie was pretty sure she was a first year, was slightly conspicuously walking around the entrance to the restricted section. Annie stopped, looking at her with interest. After a few moments, her curiosity got the best of her.
"What are you doing?" Annie asked, inquisitively.

Eleanor just wanted to get a bit of a peek around the place, just enough to know the exact size in metres, along with how many bookshelves there were in the place and what extra things that could fit in her quickly filling map of the library. She had to get a larger parchment for this one, once she got the hand of drawing with quills. The library was one of her favourite places to go, since it held records of stuff like exploration. How else would she know that the Loch Ness Monster really existed, proof being in moving pictures? That was especially good news, considering she had been to the lake when she was younger, desperately trying to find the monster. Next time, she should probably read up on thngs that might make it appear.
Mapping the library was harder than it seemed. The place was huge! Calculating the length proved a bit difficult but she managed to get it after a few estimates. Also getting the number of bookshelves right and labeled along with the sections. It took her a while to get the whole place down in parchment with having to hurry to class on occasion or forgetting that it was soon going to be dinner time. The whole place except the restricted area.
It was known that that place was very much off-limits for students but Elena couldn't help but wonder what makes it so dangerous and special. Maybe they kept some kind of really evil talking books or something epic like that. She had tried asking the librarian what was there but she wasn't really told anything so she hatched her own plans. She needed the final component to the complete map. Not like she was going to steal a book or anything! She just wanted to map out the place. It wouldn't take long at all! Besides, it wouldn't be the first time she'd trespassed an area to map it out
So there she was, trying to not seem suspicious as the freckled girl walked around the entrance, parchment and quill in hand and waiting for the perfect opportunity to sneak in. Her calculations were too focused on the librarian's schedule to remember another obstacle; her fellow students
Elena almost jumped in surprise at the question, turning to look at the girl she recognized as a fellow Gryffindor she had seen a few times but never really talked to. The slight flash of alert in her eyes turned into a friendlier one as Elena adjusted her ever-tilting glasses "Hi! I'm just mapping out this last side of the library right here, see? It took me a while but I just need to get this door in and I would've made a complete map of the library!" She rambled, opening the parchment. It was intricate, filled with a map of every nook and cranny of the library in detail, all except for the Restricted Section "I want to map the whole of Hogwarts while I'm here, y'know? It's probably the biggest mapping I've done in a while! I've had to do individual maps of most of the rooms because there isn't that much detail in the mastermap so far. Oops, I'm rambling, aren't I? It happens when I'm excited!" Elena chuckled to herself "My map only needs one place left to complete the library" She said before rather dramatically gesturing to the door to the Restricted Section "It's super mysterious and basically calling for me to map it out!" She said in a low whisper before grinning "Wanna take a look too?"

"Um..." Annie didn't know why she was even hesitating. This is the restricted section! If we get caught, we'll get into so much trouble! But in truth, all she wanted right now was to go explore it. What would they find there? What kind of amazing books could the restricted section possibly hold? Then again, probably some of them were scary or evil, but that wasn't enough stifle the young gryffindor's curiosity. She looked around. There weren't any teachers or other students around. It couldn't hurt to just take a peek. Well, actually it could hurt, Annie reminded herself. Just one look? She begged herself.
"Well...I guess," Annie relented. She walked over to join the girl by the door. They opened it, and walked inside. The restricted section was dustier than the rest of the library, and was eerily silent. Annie shivered. In a weird way, it reminded her of her muggle grandparents' basement which she had always found creepy, and also, wasn't allowed in. Once when she was seven, Annie, Luella and April had sneaked down there. They too had been so curious they couldn't resist. In the end they had been slightly disappointed to find only an old basement with nothing remotely interesting in it. April had insisted it must be filled with gold doubloons.
"Oh, I'm Suzanne by the way," she said, finally remembering to introduce herself, "everyone calls me Annie, though."

Eleanor's smile grew as the girl agreed to join her, giving her a nod as they both turned to the door and opened it. It was pretty dark in there but that didn't set off the Gryffindor at all. With the confidence and bravery of someone who had walked into spooky hallways and basements too many times, Elena stepped in, making sure to take the lead as she quickly scribbled whatever she saw in her parchment. It was pretty much just a darker, slightly dustier version of the library! Nothing to worry about right? She didn't really know why it was restricted. It's not like there was something scary or dangerous in places other than the books, right? She was sure they were going to be just fine! Just no touching books or anything else, right? Simple! She could totally do that!
The freckled brunette was humming to herself as she worked, doing some mental maths about the length of the shelves and such and quickly writing it down when her companion spoke up, making her turn around to give her a grin "Name's Eleanor, Eleanor Locklear but I prefer Elena or any other nickname if it's all ok with you! Eleanor is too formal, y'know?" She adjusted her tilting glasses and glanced at her map "Hmm..I think we should walk a bit farther so I can get the wall length..It's totally okay if you wanna leaf now! I can do the mapping myshelf!" She giggled at her puns "Not everyone can go into creaky, old and forbidden places to map. I've done this a few times already and I got it all booked!" She laughed again at her joke "Sorry, I just love making puns, see? And don't you worry about me getting eaten by a man-eating book or anything. I'll be totally fine, Suz!" Elena gave Annie a reassuring smile "But if you do wanna join, that's compleaf fine too! Hillary and Norgay did climb Everest together afterall!"

The two girls walked deeper and deeper into the restricted section. Annie was starting to get a little jumpy. We're going to get caught, we're going to get caught. We're. Going. To. Get. Caught! The girl said her name was Eleanor, but she prefered Elena because Eleanor sounded too formal. Annie could relate to that. Elena looked around, and appeared to take in everything she saw. Every now and then Elena sprouted a pun. Annie smiled. Elena was funny, in a punny sort of way. Oh no, now I'm catching it! She laughed quietly to herself.
Wait, Elena wanted to go further in? Hadn't they already gone far enough? Elena said Annie didn't have to go any farther. Though Annie knew this wasn't a direct insult, she took it slightly personally. She wasn't afraid to go into creaky, old places! She was a Gryffindor after all. Her annoyance was starting to grow, but Annie pushed it down. And then Elena called her Suz.
Ugh, 'Suz'? Anyone who knew Annie would know that 'Suz', 'Sue' and 'Suzie' were strictly off limits unless you wanted your eyes clawed out. Annie flushed and her hair flared bright red. Then it turned back to purple. Since this girl didn't know her, she would cut her some slack. She knew she was just trying to be friendly. She figured her hair turning red was probably enough of a warning. She held her head high and followed the girl farther into the restricted section.

Elena was okay with doing the mapping alone. Not everyone liked the risks, she was totally fine with that! Annie didn't mind either and she took it as a cue to proceed. It appeared that the other Gryffindor enjoyed her puns, something not everybody did, but that never really stopped her from making them. The freckled girl was about to continue on when something caught her interest. Annie's hair..Changed colours? Was that some kind of magic hair dye? She noticed that Annie flushed at the nickname she had given her, causing Elena to tilt her head. She didn't like it? Kind of how Jennifer didn't like being called Jenny by people that weren't her friends. Thankfully, she got the hint and had to come up with another nickname. She could do that! Nicknames were her forte, along with mapping!
Since Annie hadn't budged, the Gryffindor duo continued their walk, deeper into the restricted section in silence. Nothing had come out to get them yet, no books screamed or anything so she figured they were safe. Elena had to squint and bring her map closer due to the darkness, often stopping to calculate something and heading another direction. If their co-ordinates were right, they were a bit farther away from the entrance that she thought they were. Kinda too big for a restricted section in her opinion. The girl took a deep breath and opened her locket, glancing at the compass inside. North West. If this was exactly like the library, which was a bet she wasn't willing to confirm until she made sure the measurements were the exact same, then it would take a bit more of walking north to find a wall which length she could measure. The brunette looked back at her companion. She was sticking along for this long, right? Maybe she could come up with something for both of them to do, like a conversation? Elena's mind went to the change in hair colour. That picked her curiosity.
"Is it normal for your hair to change like that? Do you have some kinda super cool magic hair dye? I know a few friends that would absolutely love that! Can you change it into other colours? How about changing colours depending on your mood? I've seen that happen in a movie before, it was wild!" The girl's smile evolved into a toothy grin as she asked question after question in motor speed before stopping herself to take a deep breath and a sheepish chuckle, scratching her chin "Sorry! I rambled, didn't I? It happens when I'm excited!"

As they walked farther and farther Annie stared to wonder whether the library ever ended. Did it just magically keep going and going? That would be so cool! She started to become less nervous the farther they went. If they hadn't been caught yet, it wasn't likely that they would be. Right?
Elena, seeming to be trying to find a conversation starter, had asked about her hair. She seemed really excited. Annie smiled. "It isn't magical hair dye. I'm a metamorphmagus." At the quizzical expression on the girl's face, Annie explained further. "It's a talent. I got it from my dad. It means that I can change the shape of my body. So far I can only change my eyes and my hair though, and only one at a time. Some times if I lose control of my emotions, it happens by accident." Elena was probably Muggle-born if she didn't know this, Annie realized. She didn't have any problem with Muggle-borns of course, given her mother is one. "Like this." She scrunched up her nose in concentration. Her hair turned a light shade of cerulean blue. Annie wasn't really used to explaining her talent to people. People from wizarding families usually figured it out right away. She found she didn't really mind thought. Annie hoped she hadn't talked too much though. Then she laughed at herself for being so much of an introvert. I need to get out more.

Robyn stepped out of the library at the worst times. Sometimes a librarian also had to exist, grab some tea, step out to send an owl when Artemis was occupied. Sure, she had two assistant librarians but they couldn't have eyes all over the place at all times. This was one of those times when two sneaky first years slipped right past the continuously observant librarians and entered the Restricted Section. It wasn't that hard to get into anyway, accessing the books was another task as Robyn had the keys and the ability to get in to the locked cages. But still, observing could be dangerous especially for small minds that wanted to have big ideas.
The dutiful librarian returned to her post at her desk, but caught a flicker of too tall movement to be the house elves that assisted her. Quickly she gently set down the couple of books in her arms and marched over to the section, swiftly but not to set alarms to any other students lingering around the library. Why couldn't the students just follow the rules. In the section she came upon not one, but two students having a little chat where they shouldn't. "What do you two think you're doing in here?" Her voice dripped with a sternness to make even older students stop in their tracks. "Out, both of you. Now."
Robyn didn't pull her wand on them, that was just unnecessary but she became a herd dog of sorts rounding up behind them to shoo them out. "Did you not see the sign at the beginning? Did you think as long as you weren't caught you'd be fine? Both of you are expected to meet me back here promptly after dinner tomorrow for detention." Not only did she walk them out of the section, but all the way to the front doors of the library. She didn't want to have to keep an eye on them trying to sneak back in.As agreed upon previously, your two students have been caught and will be serving detention. Once I have the thread up with their punishment I'll owl it to you both.
