◈Detention Thread◈
@Elena Jangleton
◈Backdated◈
November 27th, 2020It was no secret that the Restricted Section was in high demand for trouble makers trying to seek out knowledge that they couldn't wait to get their hands on. Sadly, they would find most of the books were locked away and their opportunity was squandered by the watchful librarians that would escort them out, and occasionally give them detention. This was one of those times. Elena Jangleton had made the unfortunate decision to note only stay in the library past curfew, but an attempt to peruse the forbidden books. Followed up with a poorly told lie, Robyn was not having it and issued her a detention.
Robyn was not one that favored having to follow through in disciplinary action, she was one that would rather hand it off to someone else than deal with it herself. This instance in particular just happened to get under her skin enough to handle it first hand. There was not much preparation to her detention, since it didn't exist in the first place. But Robyn made her way to the library a little bit before dinner was over to make sure she was present when Elena showed up.
When she did, Robyn would set down her work and face the young girl with a bright smile that would suggest the offense to the library ever happened. "Hello Ms. Jangleton, I hope you had a pleasant dinner." She would walk quite briskly out from behind her desk to stand by the lion cub. "I figured this would be the perfect task for you since you seem to be so interested the restricted section, one of the assistants has misplaced a book of invisibility that we cannot seem to find. They've been looking all morning, and can't seem to locate it. So, it's your turn to try." After giving the curt instructions, she walked back behind her desk to return to her work.
The only problem was... the book of invisibility didn't even exist.Detention Rules
@Robyn Finley
Heavy footsteps sounded as the third-year made her way to where she would be spending the evening for Merlin knew how long. The meal had been rather uneventful as Elena had spent the majority of it poking at her food pondering over what horrible things she was going to be forced to do. Truth be told now that she reflected and glanced over it, the Gryffindor had come to the realization that perhaps her actions at the time were not as so wise and planned out as she had thought. She had acted on impulse and out of sheer curiosity and here they were. "Fat lot of good that did you, huh." The girl told herself bitterly as she was greeted by the maze of shelves and among it all, the woman herself. A part of her mind was telling her to run, escape whatever terrifying things she was about to be subjected to.
Then again, they were around books for crying out loud. Surely, whatever Professor Finley had in store for her, it couldn't be that mind-shattering. "It was alright." Elena replied her expression twitching in confusion with the great,big smile Robyn greeted her with. As far as the Gryffindor was concerned, this was nothing to be happy about or perhaps this was enjoyable for her? Well, Elena couldn't blame her, she supposed but it was tad bit annoying to say the least. That was when her task was set out before her and the girl stared at the adult as if she was joking. "You're kidding, right?" She burst out without thinking. It made no logical sense, none at all. A book of invisibility, well, it made perfect sense why no one else could find it because Elena Jangleton was one hundred percent sure in all her time at Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardy, if something didn't want to be found, it would stay that way.
Realizing that this had no way out, she refrained from exhaling a sigh before nodding. Find something that well..she couldn't see? "Would have thought I'd be organizing books or something." She muttered to herself as she trudged off towards the rows and rows of shelves that greeted her. Where was she even to start. Where did you even keep a book like that? She looked around, a bit bemused before shrugging her shoulders and picking a random row to start with. One of these had to be it, right? "Let's see, nope...nope and nope. Oh, for crying out loud!" Elena said after what seemed like an eternity of scanning various novels. She thought she had felt something solid in the gap between two books but it had wound up being nothing of interest. She wasn't even halfway done as her pupils shifted to settle on the other portion of shelves that awaited her.
Nope. Nuh-uh. This was a waste of time. There had to be a better way of going about this. She would gladly scrub out a cauldron, organize papers or something reasonable, this was just..no, it was beyond her capabilites. "Professsor? Professor! I've tried, please, this is just silly." She said throwing caution to the winds as she made her way back to the desk. "I'll do anything, heck, I'll write a essay or something on books or something if you want but I can't find something that physically can not be found." She said, pleading eyes shifting to focus on the elder woman. One of her hands stuffed into the pockets of her school robe, fingers crossed. Hopefully, she had some amount of mercy in here because Elena was not about to go through every single shelf in this forsaken place for a invisible book. "Please?"

◈Interacting◈
@Elena JangletonRobyn wasn't surprised at the reaction that Elena brought to the invisible table between them, the tension that resided from a person that seemed to begrudge being caught, someone that hopefully felt bad about breaking the rules. An eyebrow raised as a reaction to her slight outburst, arms folding in front of her calmly. "Do I look like I'm joking, Ms. Jangleton? I think not." When she finally gave in to the punishment, Robyn watched her walk off for a moment before returning to the duties that she had been taking care of before she had come in. She had one of her assistants keeping an eye on her wandering while putting books away. She didn't want Elena journeying off to a back corner of the library to sit and claim that she had or hadn't found the book after doing nothing. Robyn was not one to be fooled, at least not two times in a row.
It didn't take much time before the young Gryffindor returned to her desk with causing quite a ruckus on her way. After watching her ramble on about how this task was quite impossible, which it was, her plead to do literally anything else, Robyn quietly closed the book that was in front of her. The wise woman stayed silent for a moment, giving the young girl time to breathe and catch her breath, to give Robyn time to figure out what the best route would be to go about this. "Feel free to call me Ms. Finley, Librarian Finley, really anything but Professor as I do not teach a class here. Though, this was a teaching of a lesson." She sat down at her desk, folding her hands in front of her. "Lying doesn't get anyone anywhere does it? It just creates wastes of time usually on behalf of someone else. You, making me provide a detention. Me, making you search for something that has not been lost." She chuckled quietly, finding humor in the situation. To teach a student about lying through lying.
"If one of my assistants had truly lost a book that belongs in the Forbidden Section they would be promptly fired. While we do have a stock of invisible books, they are locked up and have been for some time. You see, if you had confessed to what you had been up to. Told me that you were giving in to a morbid curiosity, wanted to just take a peek, I would've understood and sent you off with a warning. But, instead you chose to attempt to poorly lie yourself out of it." Robyn eye's didn't hold an anger or even frustration, but rather a hope that this lesson would help Elena from now on. "What made you choose to lie rather than own up to your mistake, hm?" There always had to be a reason, even if it was simply a feeling a shame or fear.Detention Complete
