Ashley stared at the table in front of her that was completely covered in stacks of books. She could hardly see over the tops of some of them. This might have seemed odd or surprising to the average person, but for someone who loved reading as much as Ashley, it was normal. Well, almost. At her home in Isle of Skye, she usually accumulated many books on trips to the library, but maybe not this many. She concluded that she had more this time because the library in Hogwarts was filled with books she had never read before.
Yet another student walked by and glanced curiously at the enormous stacks on Ashley's table. Do I have a problem? she wondered. There were probably many books on that subject. Ashley took out a long list of books and subjects she wanted to explore and added it to the list. She smiled. Which one to read first? Ashley took out a random book from the middle of the piles and settled down to read. It was then that she heard a tapping noise coming from behind the bookshelf next to her. tap, tap, tap. Ashley lowered her book. The tapping continued. Weird. She set the book down and walked over to the shelf. It was then that she noticed that pretty much everyone who was in the library a few minutes ago had left. Shrugging, she looked behind the shelf.

Calypso walked between the shelves, arms full of books. To most people, the statement "arms full of books," would mean an average of three volumes. Not for Calypso. To her, "arms full of books" meant as many as she could carry without disaster ensuing -usually about eight or so. Calypso loved the way the library felt. How it smelled, and looked. The stacks upon stacks of books, so many she had never read before. If Flourish and Blotts had been impressive, even that shop had nothing on the Hogwarts library. The library was the ocean to Flourish and Blotts' lake, the river to its stream. It had tens of thousands of books on thousands of shelves. Creaky, wooden sliding ladders, and that amazing smell of old books mixing with new. How had no one thought of bottling that scent? Or at least making a candle out of it or something. Calypso knew she would come here often over the next seven years. Some might say too often. She had always felt safe among books. She now found herself missing this room already, though she would not have to say goodbye to it until she graduated. What is wrong with me? she wondered. I literally just got here and I'm missing it already. Maybe Calypso would become a professor just so she could come back to the library. Ok, well, that wouldn't be the only reason. She had always loved learning, and teaching others. She supposed it would be rather gratifying. And then she'd het to continue living at Hogwarts, which would be completely awesome. There didn't seem to be an abundance of job opportunities in the Wizarding World, anyhow. A witch or wizard could be a Ministry worker, a professor, a healer at St. Mungo's or Hogwarts, the Grounds Keeper or the Caretaker. They could be an Auror, a Quidditch player, work at a wizarding newspaper, or they could drive the Knight Bus. Calypso couldn't think of any others. Well, I suppose I don't have to decide yet. She slowly wandered back in the direction of the table where Ashley had her books spread out, selecting volumes from the shelves at random as she went. A few stacks away from her friend, Calypso started to hear a strange tapping noise.

Annie stepped into the Hogwarts library and her breath was immediately taken away. She had never seen this many books in her whole life. Annie's family had more than the average amount of books in their house. I bet dad spent whole days in here when he was at Hogwarts, Annie thought. She loved to read and so did her dad who loves books so much he works at Florish and Blotts. They often had long conversations about which books were better. But even their abnormal amount of books could not compare to this.
She almost missed Calypso and Ashley as they were sitting at a table covered with books. Through they were only a short distance away, it took Annie at least ten minutes to join them. She kept getting sidetracked by all the interesting titles on the shelves. "Hi!" she said cheerfully, sitting down. "Hello!" Calypso and Ashley said in unison. Annie carefully set down her very large stack of books on the only free space on the table. What should I read first? she asked herself. She decided on a rather thick one and started to read. She was so into her book that she didn't notice the tapping noise, coming from behind a book shelf. "What is that tapping noise?" Ashley asked, putting her book down. Tap. Tap, tap, tap. Annie looked up from her book as well. "I don't know," Calypso said, walking back toward the table. Ashley got up from her chair and peered behind the shelf. "What is it, Ash?" Annie asked excitedly.

Ashley peeked behind the shelves. Nothing was there, except for books. odd. She knew she had heard the sound coming from around there.
"I don't see anything," she called back to Calypso and Annie, sweeping her reddish-brown hair back into a sloppy ponytail. Well, whisper-shouted. She didn't want to yell in the library.
Ashley was very puzzled. All that was there were books on herbology. Nothing that would make a tapping sound. Right on cue, the tapping started again. Tap, tap, tap. The sound had moved. It was now coming from the next shelf over. The girls looked at each other, and without a word moved over to the next shelf. Ashley pushed up her glasses on her nose. Nothing obvious there, either.
"This is really weird..." Ashley whispered, biting her lip in thought.
The others nodded. It was weird. Very weird. Usually, mysteries in libraries were inside of books, not behind them.
"Do you think the sound is a book?" she asked. "Like, some magical books move, right?"
"But do they...tap?" Annie responded.
Once again, the tapping noise moved, this time over to the books on quidditch. Hastily, they looked behind those shelves. Nothing. Again.
Sighing, Ashley stood. "I don't know. I can't find anything anywhere."
