A Pillow Fort of Epic Porportions
It was another slow day as the year came to a close. There was a tangible feel of sadness as everything began to close up. There was only a week left before summer would arrive and everyone would be sent off to different places. Friendships would struggle. Students would have to deal with family. Most people never thought of summer as such a disappointing thing, but Katrina couldn't shake the feeling of heaviness.
It was only this morning that Katrina had been able to find a spark of light. It was a whim, and there was a likely chance that the whole idea would flop and she would end up feeling bad for herself again, but it was worth the shot. While reading through a couple muggle books that she had found in the library, Katrina read about a couple people setting up a pillow fort.
A pillow fort.
A pillow fort was just what she needed. Make it a party and people would show up. She had been to a popcorn party before, so this wasn't that odd. Katrina made a couple of posters on some parchment and hung one up on the Bulletin Board, one in the Gryffindor Common Room, one on the door to the Library, and one just outside the Great Hall. The pages read:
Katrina entered the library with a pile of blankets and pillows. She made her way to the back of the library and dumped the stack of stuff on a nearby desk before hurrying to her common room for more. Three loads later and she had the materials she would need to begin. There was only an hour before the party would get started and she had plenty to do.Pillow Fort Party
This is the perfect last chance to say goodbye to your friends for the summer and get addresses. Perfect for those who want to have a quiet place to read with friends. Serving light snacks and plenty of space to hang out in.
Who: You and some other students
What: Pillow Fort Party
When: Today (June 21) at 11:30 am
Where: Library in the back where all of the desks are
Why: Just because
Be sure to bring extra blankets, pillows, and books! Wear your pajamas!
First, the second year shoved all of the desks to one side, neatly stacking the chairs up and getting the floor clean. She swept up the ground some and began on the real work. Somewhere along the way, Katrina managed to find a couple spare mattresses. She fluffed them up and scattered a few across the space. Now for the harder part. Katrina used the Levitation Charm and a bit of luck to tie strings to the tops of a couple book cases and decoration on the walls, creating a sort of spiderweb of string about 3 meters from the ground. She draped some sheets from the common room closet over the whole thing, encompassing the area with a tan glow. She used spare mattresses to create a fluffy wall, perfect to lean or sit against.
Then for the pillows. Katrina had taken the pillows from every spare bed she could find, several storage closets, and all of the chairs in the common room and taken them down to the library. There must be at least a couple dozen. The Gryffindor tossed them around the blanketed space, creating little nooks of pillows and some seats. She tossed them all over the room. There were large and small pillows. Wide and skinny. When she was done, the whole place was covered in pillows with only a few pathways to different areas.
Katrina used the Levitation Charm again to attach another, thicker blanket to the canopy above. She let it hang down, dividing the room in half. On one side was a chair with a paper attached to the back reading, "Quiet zone, please keep voices low". On the other side of the dividing blanket was another chair, but this one had a paper that read, "Talking area, feel free to chat over here, but be sure not to be so loud that the librarians get mad"
On the reading side, Katrina added darker blankets to the canopy above. Under the celing was several nests of pillows made for reading or napping, several blankets draped on the side for those who wished for them. There were also a couple mattresses making low beds, perfect for quiet chatter. There was also a larger area that had a sort of wall sectioning it off for a group who wished to read or talk quietly together. Katrina draped a bunch of string lights across the walls to add a glow of warmth and coziness.
The talking side of the fort was set up far differently. The sheets were tan and the space seemed far more open and free. The space was also less divided. Instead there were four larger areas complete with pillow chairs and a couple short tables from the Gryffindor Common Room. On one wall was a desk that had all of the snacks, on the other wall was another desk that held only sugary treats. The snack table had some popcorn, some pretzel chips and a couple other snacks like that. A small plate of fruit and veggies for those who wished for that. All of the snacks product of the amazing house elves. The snack desk had an assortment of most of the candies one would find in Honeydukes, product of an upperclassmen who agreed to get them in exchange for some of Katrina's art.
Katrina stood in the middle of her work at the divide between the quiet and louder areas. It all looked perfect. She walked over and grabbed a package of Bernie Bots Every Flavor Beans and popped one in her mouth. Caramel. She wandered around the library with 10 minutes until people would arrive. She gathered a stack of twenty muggle books that she enjoyed and returned to the quiet area and set them in the middle. Perfect.
Katrina took a seat in a cushion of pillows and popped another bean into her mouth. Grass. Making a face at the distinct flavor, she waited patiently until the first curious person entered her realm. Boomerang wandered in through the doorway of blankets and took a seat on Katrina's lap. This was going to be so exciting. She had successfully made the most of an otherwise boring day.

Instead of being anti-social, the small brunette was going to the library to read. Oh who was she kidding the library was as much of an anti-social place as was her bedroom under the covers in the dorm where she spent most of her free-time. The girl made her way into the library and pushed her way into the back, not worrying about the weird glances she was getting. Maybe it was the fact that she wasn't changed out of her pajamas yet?Nah..
She stifled a yawn and rubbed her tired, blue eyes before blinking a few times. At this rate she was going to end up falling asleep in the library and she knew she snored, how loudly was a mystery but either way more attention would be drawn to her which she did not want. Annie shook her head and tilted her head as she saw some sort of- fort in the back of the library. She stopped in her tracks and hesitated before approaching the giant comfy fort, which turned out to be a pillow fort. A small grin spread across her face. She could put off reading for awhile and maybe stick around to see who would join.
Looked like there weren't many people here. Annie ducked her head to enter the pillow fort and nearly collided with Katrina. "Ack my bad! Sorry!" She had fallen backwards and landed on a mattress with a quiet "Oof-!" The Prefect shook her head before she surveyed her surrounds. "Oh hey this looks pretty good, did you set it up all by yourself?" Annie turned her attention back to Katrina after collecting herself and sitting up. She took a small turtle out of her pocket and cradled it.
Her mother had found it when cleaning out some of her old stuffed animals and sent it to her before the summer started. At first she was embarrassed that she still had a stuffed animal at 13 years old but Pip, the turtle had a soft spot in her heart. Annie looked back up at Katrina after she had blanked out for who knows how long. "Heya can Pip and I join yah? It's pretty cozy and I mean I was gonna come here to read but I kinda don't want to move anymore." She fell back and laid on her back with the crochet turtle hugged to her chest. How relaxing..

Interacting With: @Katrina Walker @Annie MorganAs soon as the sign in the common room caught her attention she knew it would be a crime to not attend. It was a pillow fort after all! Janet loved childish activities like this, and a cuddly pillow fort with snacks and fun would be too irresistible. She tied up her hair in a messy bun and slipped on some red pajamas. She grabbed a blanket and a red cushion off one of the chairs in the common room. It didn't take long to locate the party, the intricate fort grabbed her attention at once. Janet picked her way through the chairs, making her way to the back of the library where two girls were already sitting down. She recognized them as Annie and Katrina, they were a year ahead of her and one of them (Annie) was a prefect, the other was in her house. But they may not recognize the insignificant first year so Janet strolled over and introduced herself.
"Heya! I'm Janet," She allowed herself a better look at the fort, "Wow! That's so cool! Who made it?!"
She stumbled in and sat down on her red cushion, pulling a blanket over herself for good measure. She noticed Annie was holding a small turtle stuffed animal. "Aw I like your turtle, it's really cute"
Janet reached into one of the bowls and popped a sweet into her mouth. Being a first year, sweets from honeydukes was a luxury she could not have and she decided to make the most of these snacks while she had the chance.

It was a nice morning and Laila decided to take a walk around Hogwarts. She hadn't changed out of her pajamas yet since she had woken up less than an hour ago, and she was still a bit tired. As she was walking aimlessly through the hallways, she walked passed the library and spotted something with the corner of her eye. She yawned, turned around and took a look at it. "A Pillow Fort Party? That sounds fun Laila whispered to herself. After standing there for a good 10 seconds, she decided that she'd go because why not? It'd be a great experience, and Laila would make new friends and who doesn't love making new friends. Laila quickly ran up to her common room, grabbed some spare pillows and cushions, a few of her favourite books, and one of her blankets.
She ran back to the library and was basically panting by the time she got there. She walked to the back and saw that it was beautifully decorated. "Woah. This is so cool" Laila said in awe. She noticed three other girls who had arrived before her. Two of them looked her age, but there was another girl that looked a little bit younger. She didn't recognize the younger girl, but the other two girls looked familiar especially the prefect. She had probably seen them in the hall or something. "Hey Everyone! I'm Laila" Laila said cheerfully. She took a seat next to the younger girl and had some candy. "soo...Whats up?" Laila asked.
So can I call you tonight

Katrina felt her anxiety for the summer melt away as she surveyed her work, popping another jellybean in her mouth. Blueberry. Boomerang rustled beside her and managed to drag himself across her lap to lay in the crevice between a cushion and her back. He pulled his arms to his chest and purred himself to sleep. Katrina smiled at her familiar, a soft laugh escaping her mouth.
It was just as Katrina debated grabbing a book to read that someone entered her fortress. The person, who turned out to be Annie-- a Hufflepuff Prefect-- almost tumbled into her. Katrina laughed as she regained her balance and Boomerang woke up with a huff and plopped himself on a pillow a few feet away. Annie spoke and grabbed an adorable crocheted turtle out of her pocket.
"Yes-I... It was here when I came in the library," Katrina smiled, perhaps a bit too sweetly. A part of her wanted to take the credit, but the other part was a bit afraid that she might get in trouble for not asking first or having food in the library or something. The posters had been anonymous, so why couldn't she just go with it? It felt a pinch wrong, but hopefully karma wouldn't work it's way into the event.
Annie seemed to blank out for a second, perhaps caught up in her thoughts. "Sure, join me, this place is huge!" Katrina patted the space beside her that would easily fit at least two more people. "I love the turtle by the way,"
Simply thinking about a stuffed animal sent a shoot of pain through Katrina's heart. When she had left her home for Hogwarts, she had given her bother Liam her stuffed dragon 'Spoof' she had told him that whenever he missed her, to hug Spoof and it would be just like hugging her. But when he died in the housefire, she knew that her dragon was gone with him. Loosing her stuffed friend had never been that big of a deal, but now she wished for something to hug. Instead, Katrina grabbed a small fluffy pillow and pulled it to her chest, imagining for a moment that it was Spoof.
Katrina popped out of her thoughts when another student entered her pillow fort. It seemed her idea had worked after all. The girl came in with pajamas, a blanket, and a pillow, making her own spot on the ground near Annie and Katrina. She introduced herself as Janet, before reaching into a bowl on the table and grabbing a treat.
"I'm Katrina, and I kinda just found the place," Again, a tiny pinch of guilt. Besides, she really didn't want everyone to be that impressed by her idea. Quite frankly, she didn't want the credit. (Also there was the fact that she was less likely to get in trouble by denying it)
It wasn't long before another person found their tent. Another second year girl by the looks of it. She came prepared with blankets, pillows, and pajamas. She introduced herself as Laila. The girl seemed nice enough, but she seemed to be-- panting? Katrina shrugged the observation aside, taking the moment to reintroduce herself, "Katrina-- Walker,"
It wasn't often that she introduced herself with her last name. Most people knew the Walker who had lost everything in a house fire in her first year. It was everything she had been doing to forget the rumor and get on with her life, but it still was an annoyance that wasn't going away. She had started introducing herself as Walker again after the second rumor about her almost dying from the mosp stings she had suffered during the Blossomball. She hadn't died. She hadn't even come close to dying. She had just had a long recovery and the nurses didn't know why. Anyway, she had decided that it was honestly easier to introduce herself with her first and last name and simply not allow herself to be annoyed by the rumors.
Katrina shook herself out of her thoughts. Realizing that again she had been daydreaming. Boomerang had curled himself into a sleeping ball and she remembered that the girls probably didn't know about the other half of the tent. "Oh, yeah, I forgot to mention that I saw another part of the fort over there, it's a lot more suited for reading, there was a sign about it too. I just wanted to mention it in case you were interested, I also saw some books..." Katrina trailed off, realizing that she probably sounded rude and like she was shooing them away, which was not at all what she was intending.
In fact, she was actually enjoying company. A feeling more introverted girls never really experienced. Today had turned out to be a great day after all.

When Miranda had first noticed the flyer pinned in the library earlier than morning, she'd been intrigued. When she'd read it it, she'd been excited. Now she was full out extastic. Sure, she'd been put-off by the idea of reading in her pajamas inside a pillow fort, but to her it was just another adventure. And if there was anything Miranda was up to, it was an adventure, no matter how odd it may sound at first.
When she entered the library, the first thing she saw was a wave of white that made it look like it had begun snowing indoors. Then Miranda noticed that it was actually a large fort roofed off with white blankets. Ah.
Miranda made her way into the fort, ducking underneath a low-hanging blanket, and found herself facing four other girls, some of which she recognized as passing in the halls, and some she didn't. All of them seemed at ease, which only served to make Miranda even more nervous.
"Hello," she said uncertainly, glancing around as she took it all in. "Am I in the right place?" She figured she was, since, how many pillow fort parties could there be in one school, but she still had to ask.

One of the older girls introduced herself as Katrina Walker and Laila gave her a sad look. She had heard about how her house caught on fire few years ago. Laila smiled at her "Hey Katrina, nice to meet you! I'm-" Laila stopped remembering that she had already introduced her self. "Um..So what do you guys want to do? Laila asked taking another piece of candy. "Are there any games you guys wanna play? Like truth or dare, or maybe a pillow fight?" Laila asked getting up and taking a look around the place.
Katrina had mentioned how there were books on another side of the fort and Laila went over to check them out. "OMG! You have Percy Jackson? Omigosh! Divergent!!!! That book is Amazing and I- Oh. My. God. The Keeper Of Lost Cities!! I LOVE that book!" Laila exclaimed. "Hmm..I wonder which- Awww is that your cat?" Laila asked Katrina "It's so cute!".
Laila suddenly didn't feel tired anymore infact, she felt really hyper. She went to the middle on the room and laid down on the floor "This place is so cool. I never want to live" She said in a dreamy voice. She got up and went to take another piece of candy "These are really good. Do you want some?" She asked the prefect. "Also," She said turning to the new girl who had just arrived "Yeah you're in the right place. Come sit." Laila said patting on the space next to her.

"Yeah you're in the right place. Come sit," one of the girls said, and patted a nearby pillow. Miranda smiled at her, then went and sat where she'd mentioned.
"Thanks," she replied. "Um, what books are there?" Miranda looked around, trying to find out the answer herself, and caught sight of a particularly large volume with a familiar cover. "Is that KOTLC?"
While Miranda often found herself reading more advanced books for her age, she had never been able to distance herself from books like that - ones about elves, magic, dragons, and mysterious worlds you never knew existed. It wasn't something she regretted, however, since she found that fantasy books enriched the reader's imagination. A necessary thing when one aspired to write their own novels one day, like she did.
Without waiting for an answer, Miranda made her way over to where the book lay and picked it up, before returning to her seat. "Yep, it is." She glanced over at the other people that shared the ten. "Who, um, organized the book choices?"
Maybe she could find someone with similar interests. Not many people enjoyed books like these, and put them off as "immature" or "silly", so finding someone who did would be nice.

A Pillow Fort of Epic Porportions
It was only Marcus' second day here, meaning he was still getting acquainted with the castle. Unlike some of the staff, he had not attended Hogwarts in his youth. He wondered briefly if a map of the place existed, because he had already had to backtrack twice on his way from his office to the Great Hall. By the time he finally made it to the dining hall for lunch, he was famished. Skipping breakfast that morning to clean was not one of his brighter ideas.Marcus' Intimidation is in effect. It is a sentiment that enters people's hearts when they are in your presence. They feel dis-ease when you are present, even if the interaction is casual or even friendly.
As he approached the smell of food, a recently pinned parchment caught his attention. Today at 11:30 there was meant to be a pillow fort party. He paused, wishing he hadn't seen the location. The library? Of all the places to host a "party," they were choosing the one area in the castle that students actually needed peace and quiet? He pulled out a scroll he had been given with the school rules, and held it up next to the poster for the party. After checking, an eye roll found its way onto his features. He pocketed the rules and removed the poster from the wall. His stomach grumbled in protest as he turned on his heel and headed back the way he came. Looked like he was going to spend the next half hour searching this castle for the lib-
He raised his head, and golden eyes met brown. Marcus stopped in his tracks. He'd almost run into a woman making her way down the Grand Staircase. "My apologies," he said, bowing his head slightly in acknowledgement. His eyes raised again and he took in the high cheekbones and tan skin - she was one of the professors from dinner the night before. He'd been introduced to the school body during the dinner announcements, but he hadn't properly interacted with anyone except the Heads of House so far.
"Marcus Iwasaki, the new caretaker," his accent was hard to place, but probably sounded closest to Australian. "Is there any chance you know where the library is?"
Professor @Kateri Karr decided to join him once he explained the situation more properly. It wasn't a long trip, but he learned that she was the Astronomy professor recently hired from America. As they arrived at the library, Marcus saw another of the parchments with details on the party. He removed it from the door before they went inside.
The upperclassmen who were studying for exams in the library all seemed to know why the two adults were there. Some of them even pointed the professor and caretaker in the right direction: towards the back of the library. Marcus had hardly any time at all to appreciate the vastness of the library before he found himself in front of the "pillow fort."
It was... impressive? Marcus wasn't sure what a proper pillow fort was supposed to look like, but he supposed this was up there in terms of structure. But.. were those mattresses? Where in the world had these kids found mattresses? And there was furniture here that was clearly not library furniture, so they must've gotten a lot of this stuff from other places in the castle.
"It is clear to me that several rules are being broken here," he announced, leaning against a nearby table. Marcus pulled out the scroll of school rules, waiting until he had the attention of the students before continuing. "Number sixteen, for example: 'There will be no eating or drinking in the library.'" His golden eyes turned to the tables of snacks that had been setup. "Number eight: 'Magic should only be used in relation to studies and extra-curricular activities or with permission.' Pretty clear that you didn't set all this up the Muggle way, especially considering the mattresses and furniture that had to be moved."
Marcus rolled up the scroll and returned it to his pocket. "I do not care who created this. You are now all responsible for tearing it down and cleaning up this place. Without magic." It was only now that his eyes took in the features of the children. All girls clad in pajamas. One with a teal streak in her hair, another with a turtle clutched in her hands. One little blonde girl in particular caught his eye (@Miranda Everest), but he wasn't entirely sure why. His nose twitched, but he brushed it off and looked towards Professor Karr to see if she had anything to add.

Covering up a yawn as the professor slowly made her way towards the Great Hall, she rubbed a bit if sleep from her eyes. It had only been a few hours since returning to her quarters but her stomach hadn't really settled. With the schoolyear quickly coming to a close Kateri had skipped dinner in favor of working on future assignments and grading only to regret it the moment her head hit her pillow.
Normally she would sleep a little longer into the day, especially given it was a Sunday but her belly had other plans. So here she found herself en route to food. A sandwich might be nice... grilled cheese. When was the last time she even had, had that? Kateri's mind dreamed of food as she covered another yawn, her eyes squinched shut for a moment before she looked up to see one of the new staff standing just outside the hall. A smile spread across her lips. Wonderful! She hadn't yet been able to have a non-work conversation with many of her colleagues. Much of her conversations had been with students...and while they possessed a certain form of social interaction she craved some from her peers as well. Walking over to the man she tried to recall his name. Marcus... Ihwahsahgi? Wait, Saki. Best to skip the last name for now. She had a hard enough time with some languages having grown up with English being her third. Taking the last few steps down the Great Staircase she offered the man a friendly wave of her hand.
"No no, I am still half asleep." So far he seemed very considerate though she could feel a small tingle on the back of her neck. Should she be the one to apologize? Maybe she had interrupted his train of thought. Something made her feel a little uneasy.
"I- oh yes, very nice to meet you! Kateri Karr." She fumbled over her words as she returned the introduction. "Library?" Perhaps he had already eaten and had other plans in mind? The look on his face was hard to discern. "I do." She gave a slight nod nervously. Maybe she was hungrier than she thought to make her feel less even keeled than normal. "I can take you if you'd like?"
The walk to the Library had been pleasant, a tingle still prickling her neck but beyond that nothing too unnatural. Marcus had shown her the reason for the sudden detour. It hadn't set well with Kateri and she was interested to see what was going on, even if her stomach had groaned in protest. Trying to lighten the mood she had explained her own recent hire and having come from overseas. Small talk but it felt nice to converse with another adult.
When they arrived, Kateri followed her companion's lead. Other students giving away where the party was. It seemed strange to hold something in the middle of the day, let alone a pajama party... granted Kat knew spending a day in pjs was appealing... she trailed behind Marcus as they passed students busy studying and concentrating on their work. Coming to a stop, Kateri tried to keep her expression neutral. It was a pretty interesting sight to behold. But... furniture judging from the color scheme belonged somewhere in a common room, Elaine probably wouldn't be happy about that. Mattresses? How? Kateri didn't even know where any extra ones wouldve materialized from or were kept in the castle. That's when her brown eyes landed on a familiar figure. @Katrina Walker. A pang of disappointment but a small spark of intrigue. Admittedly, she saw something in the girl she could relate to but now wasn't the time for that. Rules were rules.
Kateri watched as Marcus jumped right in, her arms crossed as she stood just behind him and eyed the students. @Annie Morgan a prefect. Kateri's brows knit together. Once again she found the Hufflepuff in a compromising position. Even if this had come from a good place, to interrupt the flow of the Library, break more than one school rule, and disrupt the students working away on their end of year studies was not something the two staff could turn a blind eye to. Waiting for Marcus to give pause after stating the rules they were in clear violation of, Kateri decided it best to give her own two cents as well.
"As Mr.Iwasaki has stated there have been several school rules broken. Magic is not to be used outside of classes and supervised or approved settings. The moving of furniture is treading a fine line with rule 12 stealing, in this case school furniture even if you are only using it elsewhere. Pendrast will not be thrilled..." She gave a pointed glance at both Katrina and Annie specifically knowing them more than the others. The Gryffindor furniture was a dead giveaway in her mind who might have set this up. "Not only that but even being placed back here it is an interruption for others who are doing their work or could possibly need a book back here. I highly doubt the Librarian would enjoy having to squeeze by or have their shelves blocked." Marcus had already touched on the other rules she felt this was sufficient. Not to mention making them clean without magic made her admire the man. Sure the students were here to learn magic and spells of all sorts but she was a firm believer in not being completely self reliant on it for all things in life.
She could feel her stomach about to rumble once more and quickly spoke to cover up the grumble. "Well, you all heard Mr. Iwasaki. Get to it." Turning to stand by Marcus, the snack table caught her eye. Well, if they had to be here awhile longer... Kateri smirked and went over to grab the pretzel chips before returning to the table Marcus was by. She took a piece and nibbled on it, her mouth watering. Foooooooood. Looking up at Marcus she extended the bowl in her free hand to him. True no eating in the Library but if they had to wait..no need for the snacks to go bad. "Pre-lunch snack while we supervise?" Kateri grinned and leaned back against the table.
