Blue Butterflies
Open to interactionsBackdated to September 1st, 2020"Make us proud," he had said. Evelyn sat in her compartment, leaning against the back of the plush seat. Her father's parting words ran through her head again. A small kiss on the forehead from her mother and raising of her chin, the only signs of affection while they were on the platform. Her father, standing tall and proud as usual, and her mother elegant and graceful as always, watched her as she stepped onto the train. Always watching, but that was okay because it was for her own good. They watched her and corrected her, made her look presentable in front of others. They watched her to ensure that she made no mistakes. They were good parents.
Hogwarts. The thought made her nervous, although she didn't want to admit it. She recognized the nervous, fluttering sensation in her stomach as "butterflies". Butterflies in your stomach were a sign of nervousness. Not good. Closing her eyes, she imagined blue butterflies flitting around. The thought calmed her. Unconsciously, she fidgeted with her watch. It was dark blue and silver, her favorite colors, and it was lighter than it looked.
As the butterflies calmed down, Evelyn took her sketchbook and bag off the seat next to her, where she had placed them. From the bag, she took out a pencil and flipped past the previous pages, some of them containing drawings of blue butterflies, others with drawings of her family, and more. She got to a blank page and started drawing the Hogwarts Express, with its black head and class firehose engine red body. When she was done, she added little bright blue butterflies around the scene.Evelyn's Butterfly Drawing:
