The Platform, Finally Open Closed

It was a busy day. A huge crowd greeted Aeri as she arrived at the platform. A mother was calling out to her children, reminding them of all the things they needed from the list she was holding on to in one hand– double checking, triple checking... it was as if she was the one boarding the train! Aeri chuckled, rather nervously, as she was reminded that she might have forgotten a thing or two herself.

She looked up to her mother, "Are you sure we didn't forget anything?"

Mrs. Vento had a lot on her mind. Her husband arrived late from work the night before and woke up with a terrible headache, so he had to stay in bed. He couldn't even help with the luggages! Mrs. Vento knew it wasn't her husband's fault, but she wasn't entirely pleased either.

She glanced sideways and told her child, "If we did, I'll just tell your father to bring them to you. He did promise he'll be visiting in a few weeks, didn't he?"

It was not too long ago when Aeri received her Hogwarts letter. She had been waiting for it all her life, but it still felt surreal when she finally received it. She grew up in a home run by magic, and she barely had to do chores growing up because all their stuff cleaned up after themselves. She used to beg her parents for her own wand, but she was always told that her time will come. Alas, it has!

The children on the platform started to approach the train doors, scuffling and shoving each other just to get in first. Everyone wanted to sit by the window, of course.

"You'll have to board soon," her mother said. "You have about ten minutes before the train leaves, so you still have time to find an empty compartment and settle down."

"Mum, what if I don't go instead? I can just wait until Eli gets her letter." Aeri started to worry. She had never been away from home. She only had one best friend, Elizabeth. Unfortunately, Aeri was the only one who's going to Hogwarts this school year.

"Nonsense, darling. Eli will join you soon enough. A year is not that long. Now, off you go!"

Mrs. Vento kissed Aeri on her cheek and hugged her tight. Aeri knew she had to suppress her tears, otherwise she'd be labelled as a crybaby on her first year. She took her luggage from her mother and waved goodbye, as she prepared herself to board the train.
