It was one of those days as Elena shot a glance out towards the outside from one of the arched windows in the corridor. It wasn't bright and sunny as she had hoped but in fact quite the opposite flinching a bit as a flash of thunder illuminated the inside for a brief moment before the patter of rain resumed again perhaps at a heavier volume than before. "How charming." The girl muttered to herself shifting the envelope clasped within her fingers to her other hand as she pushed and prodded her way through the mildly crowded hall which earned her a few nasty looks here and there, a fact the Gryffindor chose to ignore as she began to scout out an open bench. There was still plenty of time before Pendrast's class was due to start and she might as well spend it divulging her attention to far more important matters that required her attention rather than four foot parchment's worth of writing on boggarts as charming as that sounded.
It really wasnt't, the girl finally caught sight of a open spot and sidled onto the bench leaning down to rest her book bag against the wall. Breaking the seal on the envelope, the Gryffindor third year produced the letter written in perhaps the most fanciest writing she had ever laid eyes on, typical for someone who was up there invovled with the more finer aspects of society rolling her eyes as she read it before crunching it up into a ball and stuffing it back into her book bag. "Clowns." She told herself casting a wary look as the boom of thunder sounded again perhaps a bit too close for comfort this time deciding she might as well proofread her essay while the minutes ticked on idly by, dark eyes scanning the text as her quill dabbed at various words here and there frowning as she caught tiny little slip-ups here and there. Had it really been that much of a sloppy mess? "Could have sworn I made that bit a hundred times better." Shrugging, Elena settled into a comfortable pose as the hordes of students passed her while she sat idly writing away.
It wasn't helped by the fact that the thunderstorm brewing outside only seemed to add to the external distractions. Truth was, she perhaps wasn't as focused on this assignment as Elena ought to be, it was more of a distraction if anything to get her mind off things. Sitting there for a moment starting off into space, her head tilted to glance at bag deep in thought about something before shaking her head. "Forget about it, they'll just keep saying the same thing and you'll get nowhere." To any normal passerby, it would have been a silly scene to see the brunette talking to herself but the third-year was beyond caring, it was a habit of hers by now and so far to date, it seemed like a pretty normal thing to do unless anyone who saw her was just silently judging her. That was probably it, the girl thought to herself dipping her quill in some more ink before absent-mindly beginning to trace on the parchment in a doodle-like fashion not fully aware of what she was doing. A couple seconds later, Elena blinked a few times glancing down at her paper before exhaling a sigh. "Great." She was jerked out of her thoughts by some student walking past too close for comfort brushing past too close for comort, mild annoyance as her book bag toppled over snapping open and the rolled up ball of paper among other things like textbooks and writing utensils went spilling out.
"Mind your step, will ya?" The Gryffindor posed to the potential offender getting up to gather up her contents regardless of whether the other individual would stop to assist or not.

The prefectness was carved deeply into her bones. Even if she wouldn't be a prefect at some point, she will keep overseeing and gazing around to search for potential rulebreakers or those who are in need.
Walking through the corridors was always an endeavour as it required a great deal of effort to not crash into someone while being on guard. The probabilities were low, but still, it happened one or two times back when she was a first-year. Not pleasant encounters with far from pleasant people. Not all people at Hogwarts were nice people. Not all people at Hogwarts were even close to nice people. Few were okay. Rare bits were... well, rare bits. Both of those were already her friends, so why caring about anyone else to befriend? The antisocial social club would be the name for the trio, though Pericles seemed to be a lovely interface for others to interact with. He was always a gentleman and always a nice person to talk to. A great listener, indeed.
That was all she was thinking after the practice session. Thinking of stuff was also a routine to relax after concentrated work on spellcasting.
In this not that deep breeze of thoughts, she was disturbed by a nuisance, which seemed to direct at her. She turned her head to track the source of the disturbance, while slowly making a few steps backwards to the point of levelling with the girl, who seemed to be annoyed.
"Pardon?" she addressed in sort of condescending tone, clearly surprised that her step had to be minded, "I don't think I stepped anywhere near you."
She watched the girl setting course to gathering the contents of her bag.
"Elena, right?" she asked the girl — remembering the names was her regular routine of a prefect, especially of students of the same year as hers, "Pack," she pointed her wand with a mastered spell of hers at the mess on the floor, allowing the girl to free herself from the time-consuming manual labour.
"Muggleb-", she cut herself to edit the question, "Muggle-raised?"

An reply sprang to Elena's lips as she was attempting to recollect the contents that were displayed over the floor at the girl's intial words instead of an apology. Still, the last thing she needed was to be getting into a war of words over something as minor as this nodding her head in confirmation of her name tilting her head upwards to see if she knew the girl. "You're..one of the house prefects, right?" Meenah, Meenha, something like that, Elena was sure watching as the Packing Charm solved all of her problems lifting up her clutter of things and depositing them back into the bag from where they had broken out from, the Gryffindor feeling quite foolish at the fact she hadn't thought of that first. "Thanks." She said snapping the cover shut as the second question broke through getting her attention, her features spelling a wary look. Was it because the third year had been doing everything by hand instead of her hand? She blinked a few times before answering.
"Wizard-born." She affirmed, the topic a rather sensitive one for her. Sure, the Jangletons did not hold any true or mighty pureblood status in this wizarding world and for that, she was inherently grateful. They were already much too greedy and involved in things they shouldn't be for her liking and that would just added to her parent's already oversized ego. Still, she couldn't deny there were perhaps some Muggle traces that ran somewhere in the family but she wasn't about to admit that, the question had bothered in some indirect manner, she really didn't know how to place it. "You?" Heaving the bag up, the Gryffindor thrust it on the bench as both of them were illuminated for a second as the clouds rumbled again, the bolt of lightning striking the ground outside. There was just something, she didn't know what it was but somehow, she was coming to the conclusion that quarreling over who was in the wrong would not be in her best interest.
In truth, the only thing that was resting on Elena's mind at the moment was when she had been sitting on that bench a couple of seconds ago poring over the letter that was stuffed somewhere in her bag now. She took in the details of the girl as if trying to place where she had seen her before and trying to make idle converstation at the same time. "So, uh, any plans for the break?" If it were up to Elena, she would have probably been living out the remainder of the term at the castle with no desire at all to revisit the estate but things were out of her hands this time. Stil, a bit of idle converstation never hurt anyone and it took her mind off things as she folded her arms doing her best not to give off the impression that she was flustered in any regard though her earlier question still rested on her mind for some odd reason. Just why exactly had she posed that question at that time?

"Yes, I am," she answered simply, watching over the girl. She never expected students to know her even though it was natural and even sort of mandatory to know their prefects, "Yes, I am", she doubled the reply as if she knew that her time in the position was slowly coming to an end after the event at the Masquerade ball. Of course, she couldn't expect it and even think of it. And then she nodded at 'thanks', though it was clear that the girl would not notice the nod.
The clarification of Elena's blood status made Meenauh's brows raise in surprise: "Oh..." she started a bit confused, "Usually, it's the mindstate of the muggle-raised — to do the simple things, mmm, manually, as they used to," she would explain what was the whole question about.
She was always feeling awkward in the moments like that one. She was a wizard-born and didn't use the spell — maybe she didn't know the spell? Or knew it but hadn't mastered it? Or just wasn't in the mood? Those were not the questions to ask and in general — why did they matter? It was so unimportant to find out the reasons behind that in a short-timed random encounter like theirs. She would just mind her business and keep going where she was heading to. So, she abstinently smiled at Elena as the tidying up was finished and mentally (not yet physically) prepared to move further, as she was asked the same question in response.
"Why? Well, same," she quickly answered. Were they having a random casual conversation now? Meenauh just slightly frowned and almost tilted her head as cats tend to do when they are looking at something in surprise. And again, the conversation seemed to be slowly coming to a full stop. Another mental preparation to mind her business as the girl—
To be completely honest, there was something in the girl. Some inner magnetism was hidden in a possibly shy shell. The eyes of the girl were deep as the ocean, unfolding a magnificent and at the same time coy and verecund nature of hers. But with glares sharp like daggers. Something was there in her aura that made Meenauh hesitate and reconsider her every attempt to leave subconsciously as if she was stuck there and had to be released first.
— as the girl asked another question. Now she was trapped. A random encounter turning into an awkward conversation turning into a... she wasn't completely sure what was happening and where it would lead her. An adventure of sorts?
"I-," she was actually paralysed by the unexpectedness (oh quite few managed to ever do that) of the invite, "Actually... nothing. I was at the practice session and was heading to," she paused as there wasn't any particular destination. She would just head to the dorms and study? Or do the homework. Xailah had classes, so they wouldn't see each other for a somewhat couple of hours, "to nowhere in particular," she finished the sentence turning her head into the cornerness of the corridor that always led to a surprise location.
"You?" she asked Elena, adjusting the bad on her shoulder and freeing herself from the locked stare and turning her head back to the girl.

There was something, Elena didn't know how to place it but the pieces just were not falling into place with this particular girl. She didn't know what it was but that whole remark about the Muggles made her bristle a bit. Still, there was a part of her that was convinced that getting into it with a prefect was probably not a very wise career move on Elena's part. "The spell must have slipped my mind, I was too distracted at the moment to notice, thank you however." The girl said forcing a smile onto her face doing her best not to betray her true, genuine emotions. If anything, the concept of her blood status was a very dear topic to her for a lot of reasons and it was like walking on thin ice. One wrong or insensitve comment and Elena could certainly let loose though in this case, she was giving Meenauh the benefit of doubt on grounds they had barely met and she didn't know any better. That, and the Gryffindor didn't exactly fancy having to explain why she thought unloading on a prefect had been a good idea under any circumstances.
Her interest peaked when the girl brought up something about a practice session, she had said? "Oh, trying out a new spell?" The brunette asked innocently. Whatever it was, it certainly was more glamorous and famous than the Packing Charm she had used to clean up Elena's little mess. The third year didn't know why she was so invested in striking up this converstation with her prefect. Maybe it made her feel happy, made her feel like that for once, she was not isolated and that there was at least someone out there no matter who they were that would at least acknowledge her existence and give her the courtesy of feeling like she existed and that was enough for Elena. She had a uneasy sense of belonging but it was there as the girl clenched her fists lost in though for a brief moment shaken out of it by the girls' inquiry which she took a moment to think about. A shrug of her shoulders were offered in response as Elena drew blanks in her mind.
"Nothing too exciting. Everyone seems to be tied up nowadays with the holidays around the corner." Well, mostly everyone. Elena on the other hand did not have a full agenda because she had no intention of returning to that blasted cottage and they did not want her home either. Still, despite that, they still found it in their sniveling, grubby, little selves to send her condoning letters and whatnot but that was fine. It had been fine until it wasn't. The smile on her face wavered for a bit but she managed to compose herself. Elena was good at that sort of stuff, hiding behind a mask, whatever you wanted to call it. The less people that went poking around, the better. That, and there was just some unspoken thing that lingered in the air that told her that she was better off not breathing a peep of this and just acting like everything was fine and dandy. Perhaps make up a story, she was good at that sort of stuff. Well, usually when her mind wasn't a total trainwreck.

Meenauh nodded as the girl articulated the reason for not casting the Packing Charm. No need to dive deeper.
The topic of her recent practice seemed to raise the girl's interest. It did, right? Or that was, again, a way to support the conversation in a casual way?
"Ah, yes. Amplifying Charm it was. Honestly, a frightening spell. Not easy to hone its power," she answered hastily, but with a sort of details. How much would Elena want to know? She shrugged unintentionally. The conversation's atmosphere was getting closer to awkward rather than relaxed. Would there be a saver? Meenauh hoped for Elena to share her plans (but honestly, why would she?), but Elena just dropped a self-depreciation in the form of "nothing too exciting". Ugh, Elena, Elena... Where is your self-assurance?
The continuation of that lead to the upcoming holidays' topic. Meenauh had the stuff to prepare before leaving for the vacation. The stuff for her friends. From the tone of Elena's assumption, Meenauh realised that despite the topic was raised, it was not the topic Elena, for some reason, would enjoy discussing. She'd try it anyway.
"Were you going to study?" she asked, "Because I need to do some research in the library for the next Transfiguration lesson," she smiled, trying to radiate some aura of niceness if that could help, "Aren't you excited about the holidays? What is occupying your mind? You seem rather... tense?"

Why was she behaving as if that was her first conversation ever? Meenauh looked the girl into the eyes if they would meet Meenauh's. Yes, quite unbelievable but she was expecting some sincere talk here and now.

It wasn't a spell or incantation that Elena was too terribly familiar with but the concept of it, she could grasp quite easily. Elena didn't care however any other way, Meenauh could have been practicing a simple Stunning Spell and the Gryffindor probably would have shown the same amount of interest that she did now. "Sonorus, a professor's best weapon to controlling a classroom if you ask me." The third-year said having recalled far too many memories of it being used to control a bunch of her rowdy classmates or perhaps on the pitch during a Flying lesson. Still, useful little spell to add to her arsenal. "Planning on using it to yell at a bunch of rule-breakers?" It was a light attempt at humor to maybe ease the awkward tension she felt, it wasn't that she felt threatned or anything but there was just something about that Muggle comment earlier that bothered her. Let it go, Elena, the girl kept telling herself as she tilited her head to glance up at the prefect. She felt like a mouse or something being examined under a magnifying glass, it was an un-nerving feeling to say the least and one she didn't like whatsoever.
Drawing herself up to her full height, Elena shifted from her sitting postion on the bench to standing, it gave her a sense of relaxation in a sense. She had felt rather cornered in a sense but this way, it gave her more confidence and more control in a sense when suddenly, Meenuah began poking around firing off questions at the speed of light. They ranged from if she was in the studious mood to if the girl was looking forward to the holidays. The third-year honestly had to assume she was giving off some sort of red flags or had done something to garner the girl's interest and for her was not a very good thing. "I..well.." Elena started, her pupils shifting to meet Meenauh's before quickly darting downwards, she had that sort of steely gaze that the Gryffindor herself couldn't bring herself to meet. It was like Meenauh was peeling back her layers slowly one by one and suddenly, Elena was feeling like she was back to being that mouse in the corner again.
She seemed tense? The female almost wanted to laugh at that. She was a lot more than tense as she tried to articulate words. "Perhaps a bit. Home isn't exactly a very welcoming environment right now so I don't know how this holiday season is going to go." Elena was going to leave it at exactly that, there was such a thing as telling people too much and then you had to play damage control with all of the rumours and gossip that would spread around. She focused intently on the wall behind Meenauh clearly aware of the fact her eyes were riveted on her, it was like they could stare deep into her soul. There was just something unnerving about that fact that put her on edge. "Sorry, didn't meant to be such a downer. You shouldn't worry yourself, what research do you need for Transfiguration?" A change of topic, she had already apologized once for her apparent use of Muggle methods and now she was apologzing again for being, Elena didn't even know how what to call it. Still, Transfiguration would provide a nice distraction from whatever answers Meenauh was trying to seek as her eyes flitted about nervously looking anywhere but directly at the girl.

Meenauh smiled at Elena's comment on the rule-breakers and answered quickly: "I prefer sneaking and dealing with them in the shadows," she said mysteriously remembering their encounter with Nico and Flash. She never made it loud or dragging a lot of attention. It was more like as if she'd catch someone's tip of the ear and drag them all along the corridors to some Professor, or worse — Head of House, to meet their destiny as quick as possible. And then detention, yes.
The switch of the conversational tone to a sadder tint was easily recognisable and as Meenauh feared — indeed, the seemingly unpleasant topic for the girl. The chaotic glance, the pauses, it all gave it away. The girl seemed to be nervous even before touching this topic, but now the nerves were exploding like solar flares. Even though her speech sounded normal.
"Sorry to hear that," she started carefully (which wasn't an easy thing to do). What do you say next? Is there a playbook? Is there a guide? Damnit, these are feelings, not spells with specific wand gestures and incantation. This has to be sincere.
"Sorry," she repeated involuntarily. It was something she didn't expect to handle at that hour. Especially from a basically stranger. Did Meenauh step into some insecure vulnerability? Continuing digging into that (and what for?) may result in destruction. Both the not yet existing relationship and the individuum's soul.
"I hope everything will be fine at your home. Home is something you wish to come back to, otherwise, you don't call it that, right? So if you call it home, there's still hope."
"Seriously, Meenauh? That philosophical all of a sudden?" the first voice actually surprised her. She didn't hear them for quite a while.
"Yeah, your home is okay, hers doesn't sound like much," another flooded in so quickly that Meenauh had to mentally hush them all.
"Oh, Transfiguration," she woke up to a favourite topic, "Ress gave me a difficult, sort of, task to accomplish and now I need to research on the biggest transfiguration in history in terms of the effort. You know, like a big thing in a small thing and vice-versa," she started to lecture the girl, but cut herself, questioning whether the girl was genuinely interested or just trying to switch the uneasy topic, "Do you have interest in Transfiguration as well?"

@Meenuah Silmataurea
Elena was slowly coming to a conclusion to the prefect that stood in front of her and it was a very odd one. It wasn't the fact that she disliked the girl, she was somewhat of an oddball if anything yet at the same time, the Gryffindor felt this sort of sixth sense that was telling her that divulging too much would only end up doing more harm than good. She didn't quite know how to describe it but the sense was there even as Meenauh ranted on saying something about how home was supposed to be a sense of hope or something like that. In response, the brunette merely shrugged her shoulders not particualry swayed by the statements. "I've heard that one too many times to count." It was the honest truth, all these promises from people or even random passerybys that everything would be okay but Elena had learned a long time ago that words were just words until they were put into action. She expected very little would change in that regard, not that it was Meenuah's fault in any sense. She hadn't asked to get a lecture on Elena's life story so the Gryffindor saw no need to burden her with her troubles.
That, and the mere fact that the prefect resembled a figure of authority at the school was fact enough for Elena to perhaps withdraw more into her shell of isolation and loneliness. She didn't know what it was but ever since the intial comment, the brown-haired third year had thought it would be best if she didn't air her drama for everyone to see. Thankfully, howver, the question of whether Elena's home was really a home quickly faded away as they moved to more relevant topics such as Transfiguration, the one course that the third-year had practically battled with but surprsingly had been doing remarkably well in as compared to when she had first started. Still, it was not a field of magic that Elena Jangleton would purposefully throw herself into but it was a rather impressive feat if you could understand the physics, science and everything else that went into it. "Biggest transfiguration in history, huh?" Elena repeated more thoughtfully wondering exactly what would fit the bill for that request.
She was sure she could find a lot of prime examples but as long as it took the attention away from her, she was perfectly fine with that. Elena wouldn't say she considered the subject matter a hobby but it wasn't something she actively ran away from either. She tolerated it but that was about it, the only courses that Elena would really break a sweat over would most likely be Charms, Defense Against The Dark Arts and Care of Magical Creatures. "I wouldn't say it's a hobby of mine but it's definetely an interesting course of study." She sort of missed Professor Lian, she had at least tried to make the course easygoing, this new teacher however, Elena was still trying to wrap her head around. Still, everyone had their own ambitions and it seemed the girl's was this. How did you even start comprehending what the biggest transfiguration was? "It must be really advanced magic then." Elena said neutrally flipping a lock of hair behind her shoulder. "The more complicated the magic, the riskier it is."
That was the one general rule they had been taught about the class. It was also probably why she wasn't too eager to dabble in anything that involved Transfiguration. She already had her own troubles to worry about without having to stress over whether she'd change into a flobberworm or not. Alternatively, there were a few people Elena would not mind changing into flobberworms as well.

Grim Outlook
Making friends was a very hard job. Especially for Meenauh. Her first interactions and acquaintances were awkward and shy. She hadn't interacted with children much before Hogwarts. With time she became more open to interactions as she studied the people around her. She had the core, raised in a good loving family, never treated badly, taught to stand the ground and to be honest to life itself.
But making friends, as in real friends, was still hard. The only two friends she got — it was either magic or hard work. And it didn't seem possible for both of those to happen again unless something extraordinary could have happened.
The girl wasn't easy to crack. The girl — Elena. She had these subtle notes of several shades of moodiness toggled by some mysterious force. She did sound like she was interested in the topic, but her eyes were saying she was somewhere else. Was she being polite or that was just her eyes? Was it rude to even think the person is not being honest?
"Indeed. The bigger the scale, the more difficult it is, but the more powerful as well," she answered to Elena, "It works for charms as well, not just the transfiguration. But for the transfiguration, it's just more obvious, because you know the sizes. Or at least you can imagine."
One could tell Meenauh was passionate about Transfiguration. She was the only one (from those she knew) in her year to study the future year's transfigurations in advance. Because she liked it? Because she could? Did it matter? Ress told her she had the aptitude, so Meenauh went for it.
But what was Elena's passion?
"I get that it isn't your hobby," she said after a while, putting her hands into the pockets of her robe, "Then what is?"
