Alec hadn't done it to just compliment Wyatt back, but take it as he must Alec wasn't going to correct him. On either things. Alec was going to have to prove at the very least the last one to Wyatt, he'd look silly in almost anything Wyatt had ever worn and there was what Alec thought. Quite the argument to be made for it. Alec wasn't lying, he could show Wyatt some actual lying if that's what Wyatt really thought it was. Alec could lie, if he cared enough, maybe. Alec pursed his lips at this, scowling inwardly, while still very confused by the whole situation. Alec was still caught up on, "-You’d look good in anything." Alec was trying to puzzle what it meant when he felt a tug on his arm. A silent "o" formed on Alec's lips, feet moving subconsciously as Wyatt walked him out of the room. Why was he leaving? Why was he bringing Alec with him? And why was Alec so cued out? Or better question, why did Alec feel the need to ask so many questions? He was over complicating simple things.
Merlin's beard. What was tonight? The amount of regrets he'd had within the thirty minutes, maybe a bit more while in that room, was absurd. Alec should've rethought his plans for the night, you know, going with the option of just heading in to bed early, or studying. Anything else he could've chosen to spend his time on, and yet he'd chosen this.. It lead to a question itself now. Why had he chosen to do this? He'd been asking himself that question all night. He had come for Michael, to socialize, do normal things whatever that counted as. But it really hadn't turned out that way, Michael crying and leaving, Alec finding out human interaction was not where his expertise lie, and nothing was certainly normal. It made Alec uncomfortable. After the train ride back here that last thing he needed was more stress piled onto his plate. It also seemed inward freak outs were a new trend, because Alec kept doing it so much. He'd fixed the issue of outward freak outs a while ago, but apparently a healthy boundary still hadn't been established, and if it someone had been it was long forgotten.
Once the two had gotten settled, or at least Alec had, leaning against the wall, his eyes focused on the design on his hands, mainly looking down at his right. A silent sigh from himself followed, till Wyatt finally spoke. His voice started steady, direct to the point. But what point? "Why did you do that?" "What?" Alec's head shot up, the confused look on his face showed, Alec blamed it on not being attentive in the first place. Wyatt had been quiet for long enough Alec could've assumed he wasn't going to say anything. Wyatt stared Alec in the eyes, his gaze steady, Alec looked away and that was when Wyatt started to break elaborate.
And oh wow, he was really breaking down elaborating. That was a ton to take in, like the whole Alec going silent. Alec was busy, that was it. You know, Alec felt if he said it enough he might believe those words. Going on Wyatt hadn't said, nor done anything wrong, besides if he had Alec was more often than not verbal about it. He had to be.. He wanted things like that straight out there. Silence hurt a lot, you could be left chewing on thoughts for hours with it. Alec knew that, and he felt bad about it. Who wouldn't? It only came to the part after where Alec had a feeling he'd failed. He didn't know what to do, or say therefore he went with the easiest answer. "I was busy." The words were defensive, deflective but true.
Alec felt a frown appearing on his face, his eyes narrowed as he finally looked back at Wyatt like still trying to figure out a puzzle. A mix of anger as well as other emotions appeared on his face, Alec looked hurt at the very suggestion. Though the look switched to an empathetic one only seconds later in a mess of trying to figure things out. "How in the world did you even come up with that conclusion? That's nowhere near the truth." His tone was soft yet sharp, Alec didn't like the truth in this moment. That didn't mean he was allowed to set aside Wyatt's feelings.
Waves of guilt were crashing down on Alec at his words. He hadn't meant for Wyatt to be so hurt. He hadn't meant for anyone to be hurt. He just hadn't been able to think. Even now things felt so complicated Alec still wanted to go lie back in bed. But there had been too much of that since coming back. That was why-"I wasn't doing it on purpose if that's what you think. Well I-I was but not in that way." Alec said mumbling the last part. "You didn't do anything wrong, and even if you had I wouldn't have just randomly stopped talking to you. I wasn't trying to hurt you Wyatt." I'm sorry.. Alec wanted to say it. But Alec felt even I'm sorry in his head couldn't be genuine if it wasn't believed, and if Alec would still do it all again if he had too. He wasn't ready to talk to people once he'd gotten back. That was that.

A Night For-
"I was busy."
“Busy,” Wyatt mumbled, scoffing at the pathetic excuse as he let his left hand fall from his face.
So Alec just didn’t see him for months because he was busy? Alec’s tone was defensive, which ticked Wyatt off because he had no right to be. He wasn’t dumped like trash while Wyatt went off to do whatever the hell busy meant. Wyatt studied Alec’s face and didn’t like the look he was seeing. Alec was staring at him like he was some kind of code he was tasked to crack rather than an actual human being.
"How in the world did you even come up with that conclusion? That's nowhere near the truth. I wasn't doing it on purpose if that's what you think. Well I-I was but not in that way." Alec mumbled his last sentence, a sentence that earned him a scoff. What the hell was that supposed to mean?
Wyatt found himself building up the barriers between him and Alec he'd previously torn down.
"You didn't do anything wrong, and even if you had I wouldn't have just randomly stopped talking to you. I wasn't trying to hurt you Wyatt-"
“Like hell you weren’t! So you’d sooner tell me what you were doing for the past few months if I was an asshole to you than if I was your friend?”
Wyatt closed his eyes so tight. He didn’t want to look at Alec. He didn’t want to see his face. That blasted Gryffindor thought he was disposable. Some toy Alec got in the summer and was now bored of. The first true enemy Wyatt ever had... who turns into his first true friend... then into someone he couldn’t stand to look at.
Still, Wyatt thought his behavior was childish. Shutting his eyes and pretending he wasn’t talking to anyone but himself in a mirror was certainly much easier than looking at another face, but it was, in fact childish.
“And what the actual hell did you mean by ‘not in that way’? You were ignoring me on purpose, but not in that way? You can’t just mumble something and pretend like that’s the equivalent of not saying anything at all.”
Wyatt inhaled.
“If you wanted to quit being friends you could’ve just said so! Is this your idea of a f- funny joke? Huh? Leading me on to think you actually cared about me, then n- not even looking at me for months? V- v- v… very hilarious, Mason. Hilarious!” The Snake began pacing slowly along the width of the corridor.
Wyatt was rambling but he didn’t care, not at all. Alec was still the douchebag he was in their first year, and Wyatt Starkey was the idiot for ever thinking he could’ve been different. The Lion had the audacity to not talk to Wyatt for months, then take offense when Wyatt called him out?
He looked so smug, comfortably leaning against that damned wall.
“It is my f- fault isn’t it? For thinking perfect Alec J. Mason would w- w- want to be friends with the scum of the Earth, r- right? Merlin, I just let it happen!” Wyatt found himself biting back tears. He wanted to go. He needed to go. He stood with his back to Alec, and his hands balled up in fists by his side.
“Busy,” he mumbled, almost in disbelief.

Alec went silent. He didn't know how to speak to people. This was an example. He should've known to just keep his mouth shut. Wyatt had a right to be upset, justified for months without words. But Alec not knowing proper human social skills didn't make for a great conversation about anything. That was besides the fact the both of them seemed to be pretty hot-headed. Alec didn't know when to stop and walk away. He didn't know how to start a civil conversation in the midst of it either. Alec hadn't been talking to anybody, asshole or not. The feeling, thinking back on it, made Alec sick. He probably should've reached out to someone sooner. But it wasn't like they'd understand, and even if they somehow did. So what? Nothing was going to change. And it was a circle of feeling bad, Alec would feel bad about burdening people with his problems, and people would feel bad about not being able to help. And Alec would feel worse because he knows people want to try to help but they can't so they feel bad, so Alec feels bad. Alec, hands in his pockets, looked away from Wyatt again as he went on.
The "not in that way" meant Alec was ignoring people, lots of them. But not because he wanted to hurt them. Alec wasn't a freaking supervillain! He didn't even think about what could and would happen if he did. It wasn't, oh let's just suddenly ignore everybody, that sounds like fun! Being lonely, no motivation to even study so all you do is sleep. Yeah, that's fun. Terrific, best time of Alec's life, in fact. And maybe the mumbling thing was true, he wasn't sure. He knew he always did it when he was upset, though half that time it amounted to that of an afterthought. Yes, when he was upset things were said on impulse. How unusual. The more unusual thing was how Alec had kept quiet this long. He was upset with Wyatt, he had a couple choice words he wanted to say, yet Alec stood here biting the inside of his mouth as he stayed silent.
Alec's excuses were pathetic. He was starting not to care. Wyatt was being honest, there's no way anybody would lie about that. It was probably all true, even if Alec didn't realize in the ways it was. A healthy dose of criticism was fine. Alec heard Wyatt speak again. Did he actually believe that? Alec swallowed, taking a shaky breath. Alec didn't want to stop being friends, shit he would cry if Wyatt just up and said one day that he didn't want to be friends.. "Wyatt-" His voice was so quiet and with Wyatt freaking out it was going to be impossible to hear anything Alec was trying to say but Alec couldn't make out anything louder.
Alec wanted to try to speak again, get Wyatt to listen, try to make some sense out of anything, but Wyatt spoke. There were so many things Alec wanted to do, from hugging Wyatt to arguing with him. Even the arguing about stupid things, irrational thoughts, like maybe how he was worried "the scum of the earth" would think he was stupid and weak. Worried about things so small compared to the death of Wyatt's mom. He felt selfish for caring so much, he-Alec broke in that moment. "I'm sorry" Alec whispered, Wyatt finally close enough to hear Alec. "Please just don't walk away.." Alec was having a hard time trying to steady his breath, and his voice sounded desperate.
Alec was aware Wyatt was just as upset as well, but it was hard to address anything if Wyatt walked away, or wouldn't even attempt to listen. "You don't have agree to anything I say, you don't have to like it. Feel free to argue with me, yell at me, whatever. But if your going to freak out, "Scum of the earth", or otherwise please just know I'm not going to walk away like that. I'm trying Wyatt.. I want to be there for you, I'm sorry I wasn't able too." Wyatt seemed to have been thinking on the subject a lot. Not like Alec wouldn't dwell on it either. He was talking so much, his throat hurt, especially as he forced his voice to be louder than it wanted to be. "I care, and I know the amount of time I spent isolating myself is unreasonable. I should've said something." Alec took a deep breath, speaking was also incredibly hard when you had so much to say.
"I spent hours trying to write a letter. It seems as though no matter how much I tried, words didn't wanna work with me. I couldn't figure out what I was supposed to say. Like was I supposed to write, hey, this stupid thing happened and I care way too much about it. But I'm fine, things are fine. I just need space, I'm taking a break from every human on this planet I know personally. I'll let you know once I'm ready to talk and have had enough space." Alec wanted to add Wyatt could've looked for him, in all his usual places. It didn't work though seeing as the usual places had become quick stops he didn't care to stop it and his room became where he spent his time. "That wouldn't have gone well.. Honestly, the ,"Scum of the earth" deserves a better friend. One who doesn't screw up like this when they do screw up. He shouldn't have to deal with this, he should be walking away.." Alec let his gaze focus on the ground as his talking slowed, that louder voice gone it was a whisper again. "Why aren't you?"

A Night For-
"I'm sorry" Alec whispered, awfully close. Wyatt didn’t flinch, and it might’ve been the first time he was mad at himself for not flinching. He felt so safe around this asshole that his voice was calming to Wyatt...
"Please just don't walk away..." Alec sounded desperate, and Wyatt couldn’t believe it. After all that time where he just ran off, went into hiding he wanted this Snake to stay? But after a deep breath, Wyatt decided he would wait it out and hear what the Gryffindor who he though was his friend speak.
"You don't have agree to anything I say, you don't have to like it. Feel free to argue with me, yell at me, whatever. But if you’re going to freak out, "Scum of the earth", or otherwise please just know I'm not going to walk away like that. I'm trying Wyatt.. I want to be there for you, I'm sorry I wasn't able too."
So that was two sorrys now. This was far too much for Wyatt, who would rather jump into a lake full of piranhas than continue with this conversation. Talking about all his insecurities and all his worries about what Alec thought of him and how he’d always imagined their friendship to end as some elaborate prank. He must’ve sounded so pathetic, but on the other hand, what was Alec doing for those months, was he okay?
Wyatt hated himself for caring so much when it seemed Alec didn’t even think once about how this whole thing would affect his friend until a few moments ago. Wyatt crossed his arms and stood up straight as he tried to wipe all the emotion from his face like he’d done multiple times before. He couldn’t. Couldn’t hide his now very glassy eyes and certainly not the frown that was fighting back against him to stay on his face.
"I care, and I know the amount of time I spent isolating myself is unreasonable. I should've said something."
Damn right you should’ve, Wyatt thought. He couldn’t put the pieces together. Why didn’t Alec say anything? The creeping thought came back up again. Whatever happened must’ve been bad.
I'll let you know once I'm ready to talk and have had enough space."
Yes, that would’ve been perfect, you idiot. God, anything Alec wrote would’ve been perfect as long as it warned his supposed friend of his silence. Why didn’t he say anything!?
"That wouldn't have gone well.. Honestly, the ,"Scum of the earth" deserves a better friend. One who doesn't screw up like this when they do screw up. He shouldn't have to deal with this, he should be walking away..."
Alec paused. Looked down.
"Why aren't you?"
Wyatt swallowed and looked down, his back still facing Alec. He didn’t want to say anything because he didn’t know. Either it was what he thought, and he was just a pathetic loser than can’t walk away from anything, or it was something way more difficult. Something more complicated and confusing. Wyatt took a deep breath.
“I don’t know what to do.” A mumble. A whisper.
The Snake sniffed, followed by a soft curse, and wiped his eyes, hoping Alec wasn’t looking. Wyatt turned.
“I don’t know what to do.” He repeated. Somewhat louder this time.
“I mean, you st- stop talking to me… for months. Did you ever think about what that could do? What that would m- mean? A- a- fter all the conversations w- we had and- God, you- And you’re weird now, about everything. You were before, but now I can’t help but f- f… feel it’s a little more deliberate. It just h… h- hurts the most that you didn’t come to me.”
Wyatt’s emotions were plain on his face. Anger, betrayal, sadness, concern... Too many for him. Too many for Alec to be able to see. Too many for anyone to witness.
“And then you ask me to go with you to a Ball? A school dance? Like f- f- friends, or-” Wyatt stopped himself. They were just friends, he knew that. “Alec, I th... thought you might’ve d- died. I- I didn’t see you in December at all. I didn’t s- see you un- until the beginning of January!”

Als his eyes stay focused, Alec subconsciously messed with the pin on his pocket. Anything too busy himself and calm his nerves at this point. He didn't want Wyatt to freak out. Alec's question was genuine, he always seemed to mess up. He definitely wasn't perfect, and the fact that Wyatt seemed to in some sense think that made it worse. It was a lot of pressure if someone thought you were perfect. Alec had made Wyatt very aware of his screw-ups, so what lead to those words? Both of them had yelled and argued with each other before. Even had a pathetic fight. And that's was besides the fact that Alec almost always seemed to be at the leading cause anytime Wyatt had gotten hurt before his second year. Whether it being shoving him, or playing a stupid prank that was mean to be harmless, or heck even locking him out. Which that was the stupidest idea ever, Alec. What were you thinking?
Alec finally heard Wyatt speak. His voice quiet like Alec's it was hard to make out the words. He heard Wyatt sniffle, Alec wanted to hug him, they'd hugged before, but right now it felt like a pretty finicky thing and Alec wasn't going to ask if he could. Alec's eyes watched Wyatt's feet before he'd realized Wyatt had turned around, Alec didn't look up. Instead, he just kept quiet as he anxiously messed with the pin. Before he heard Wyatt repeating himself, the mumbling starting to make sense now. Well, lucky for him, Alec didn't know what to either. They were on the same boat. Alec didn't either, he never did. Since when was that going to help now. When one of them needed to know.
After that Wyatt brought of Alec not talking to him. Alec being weird about everything now and then, saying he always was. Wait back it up there a minute. What? Weird, well okay.. I mean, it wasn't a laughing matter but; you know that was kind of random to throw in there. How dare Alec be told he always was weird about things. He wasn't actually offended, still Alec had to keep this in mind for a joke later. Like that's a little much, don't you think? Always weird, Alec hoped it was a compliment.
This was when Wyatt admitting to being more upset over the fact that Alec didn't come to him. Alec hadn't known what to do. Though admittedly, it may have been easier if Alec had. Even if it came to a circle of feeling bad. Wyatt went on. He spoke about the ball catching himself at friends. It was confusing. What were they if they weren't friends? They weren't enemies.. Wyatt didn't seem to want to go on there, Alec wanted to pester him about it. And beyond that he said he thought Alec may have been dead.
"I-I told you I was going to be busy December. I was worried about falling behind in classes, and worried about making everybody gifts, and secret santa." Alec said half of December was Alec genuinely being busy. "And after, I meant to talk to you. But you seemed busy.." Alec was still messing with the pin as he spoke. "Then stuff happened, and not to mention the train ride back home from break was a complete disaster. Once I finally got back-" Using the word stuff in place of any details, Alec shrugged, as if that gave any answer to anything. "I didn't know what I was doing. I was just sort of doing what I needed to do to function like a proper human, that's about it."
Alec went on dropping the pin in the process of messing with it while talking, but deciding to wait on picking it up since he was still talking. "The ball thing was because I'd finally decided doing enough to function like a proper human wasn't enough. You were the first person I thought of.. Part of it may have been an excuse to just talk to you without looking stupid. Turns out that couldn't be prevented." Alec was still looking down as he spoke. His eyes now focused on the pin. "The only bright side to the situation at hand seems to be the fact that you haven't walked away yet. How your able to deal with me and my stupidity is beyond my range of thought."

A Night For-
"I-I told you I was going to be busy December. I was worried about falling behind in classes, and worried about making everybody gifts, and secret santa."
Wyatt just glared, but he feared his glare might come off as more scolding in a way that says “I care about you and I know something’s up and you’re not telling me about it.” What he really wanted to convey was that he was, at the very least, angry. He was trying to reign in all these other more complicated emotions that were boiling up and out of him. Trying to make only one noticeable. He was failing miserably. Who knew that hiding everything for so long just made everything harder to hide in the times you’d need to hide how you feel the most?
In simpler terms, the mask was giving into its cracks, and it began to fall apart.
"And after, I meant to talk to you. But you seemed busy…" Wyatt scoffed. Like I’d ever be busy, he thought. "Then stuff happened, and not to mention the train ride back home from break was a complete disaster. Once I finally got back-"
What did Alec mean by “stuff” and why couldn’t he just spill it already? What was holding him back? After all this time, after everything they shared with each other, now he was pulling back? He knew what he was doing was stupid and wrong, he’d said it, himself! So why wasn’t he going into detail about the important stuff?
"I didn't know what I was doing. I was just sort of doing what I needed to do to function like a proper human, that's about it."
A pin fell on the ground. It had been on Alec’s pants when they’d first met up, hadn’t it? The Lion must’ve been messing with it. Wyatt cursed himself for not noticing the fidgeting, he was usually so observant. His mind had wandered elsewhere, a part of his brain that was tirelessly working to find why the hell Alec was not talking to him about what was troubling him so much. Wyatt didn’t go to pick up the pin, Alec would if he wanted to.
"The ball thing was because I'd finally decided doing enough to function like a proper human wasn't enough. You were the first person I thought of... Part of it may have been an excuse to just talk to you without looking stupid. Turns out that couldn't be prevented."
The Gryffindor’s eyes were fixed on the fallen pin, his failure to make eye contact now annoying Wyatt. Was he intimidated like all those months ago when they’d first met, and Wyatt kicked the shit out of him? The memory made Wyatt’s stomach flip. Everything has really come full circle, hasn’t it, Wyatt thought. He stopped himself there though. Usually, or at least in movies, when everything came full circle, it meant the end. Wyatt didn’t want this friendship to end. It barely even began! He ran his left hand through his hair.
"The only bright side to the situation at hand seems to be the fact that you haven't walked away yet. How you’re able to deal with me and my stupidity is beyond my range of thought."
“Most things seem to be,” Wyatt mumbled.
Instantly, he regretted his comment. Alec was his friend, and if he was on the right track, Alec was in pain. Emotionally, at the very least. Mumbling witty little comebacks would only drive a thicker wedge between them, he knew.
“Sorry…” He said. He crouched and picked up the pin, and sprang back up to hand it to Alec. “Can you just tell me what you were doing after you were “busy”? Your argument that I was busy makes no sense, considering I wasn’t, and if I seemed to be, there’s no way it could’ve lasted two months.”
Wyatt took in a deep breath.
“Can’t we just be honest with each other?”

Wyatt's comment after Alec's long, unnecessary ramble of words was just an insult. It bugged Alec a bit, Wyatt didn't seem to care with the comment. He was obviously just making an effort to show Alec he was upset. A whole thing in itself Alec wasn't very happy about. The words didn't bother him at all, just the fact that they were meant to be mean. Even without much thought put into them.. Alec sighed, unsure what else to add. What was he supposed to say? Maybe they were just supposed to walk away.
But Wyatt moved, picking up Alec's pin and handing it back to Alec he began to speak. His hand touching Wyatt's as Alec got the pin back. He let himself focus on the little details. Nobody was walking away. The thought eased Alec's nerves. Everything had felt fragile, as if the slightest touch or word would break it. A new found anxiety in Alec's relationships, it was odd. Yes, the boy worried about scary girls he'd met, things like that. But had never felt this desperate at the thought of someone walking away. The thought would've never even crossed his mind.
"No, Wyatt-" Alec let out a small laugh. "I meant you were busy when I wanted to talk to you that month. Or seemed to be at the very least. After I was busy, before I had to leave for winter break." This was stupid, maybe that's why Alec had laughed at it. More words should've definitely been spoken. That was agreed upon, Alec being at fault there. But details beyond that were a scattered mess. "I already told you what I was doing after I got back from break. You know.. Just the proper things to function like a human. The basics." The answer didn't seem to supply enough earlier, it wouldn't be able supply enough now.
It was hard to explain in any form or words. There's not much he could say in place, it's all he had been doing, like a ghost just passing by. There wasn't much for an excuse in that area other than the fact that Alec simply couldn't. Not in a physical way, but if Alec couldn't get himself to speak and ask the librarian where a book was during that time, it was in no way possible he would've been able to do the same with Wyatt. At least Alec was able to do that now, only after forcing himself too. "Within that time period, my journal met its demise. I don't know if that's important. But that happened after I got back In January." Alec said, still there wasn't a supply of details Alec could hand out like. Like oh, I was busy with this and this after I got back. Alec wasn't, that was only the beginning of December.
Getting back onto the factor of the journal. That was completely Alec's fault. It was also something Alec was going to get back on later. There were other focuses. Like addressing the honesty thing, "I've been honest with you about what you've asked so far. Mostly.." Alec said. I mean, Alec lied about a thing or two. But nothing big in his own mind! And nothing that wasn't obvious! Just things he didn't wanna answer.. A lack of detail didn't count as a lack of honesty.
Except when it did."What can I do to make it up? I should've done more to let you know I wasn't trying to hurt you. Or that I was fine. But I can't change that. Your upset and it's reasonable, so what can I do now? I don't think a sorry is enough. Even if it was for you, you'd deserve more than a sorry."

A Night For-
Wyatt pretended it didn’t affect him when Alec’s hand gently grazed his as he took the pin. But he noticed. And it made his stomach flip in the strangest way. The Snake tried not to think about it and shoved his hands in his pockets, keeping his eyes on Alec no matter how hard it was so he could keep up with the emotion on his face.
"No, Wyatt-" Alec chuckled. Wyatt wondered how.
He thought Alec might’ve felt the same as how he felt right now. That feeling in your stomach when you’re going down on a roller coaster and you feel like you’re about to be sick, but it’s not that you feel ill as much as it is you’re sort of terrified the thing holding you in place is about to come loose and you’re going to fall out. Wyatt thought Alec might be able to relate, but the laughter? But Wyatt told himself it was just the boy’s weird coping mechanism.
He was just really hoping Alec cared.
"I meant you were busy when I wanted to talk to you that month. Or seemed to be at the very least. After I was busy, before I had to leave for winter break. I already told you what I was doing after I got back from break. You know.. Just the proper things to function like a human. The basics."
If he says “function like a human” one more time I’m going to start thinking he’s an alien.
Alec’s excuses were hurtful, to say the least. It really seemed like the Lion was trying to find a fancy way to explain that he was “busy” so he didn’t have to say he was just tired of Wyatt. Maybe this was part of his plan to make Wyatt think it was his own decision to end the friendship? Maybe going silent and then trying to act like nothing happened was supposed to make Wyatt end the friendship, which would make him feel in control when it was really something Alec had set up from the start? This was just the latest in Wyatt’s stupid theories.
He knew that it wasn’t true, though… he knew…
"Within that time period, my journal met its demise. I don't know if that's important. But that happened after I got back In January."
Wyatt remembered the journal. The first time he’d ever seen it, he told himself to remember that it existed so he could read it sometime. Maybe even use what was inside the book against Alec if it came to it. That was the last thing Wyatt wanted to do now. Even if he was kinda, sorta, super mad at Alec right now.
But as he spent more time in that house with Alec and his somewhat neglectful parents, he noticed he might be disturbed by what he read. He didn’t want to spend a moment in Alec’s mind as much as he hated spending each day in his own. Damnit, Wyatt thought. He was starting to feel concerned for Alec again.
"I've been honest with you about what you've asked so far. Mostly..."
“Mostly!?” Wyatt’s voice was getting pretty loud again. He usually avoided being loud, thinking it made him seem like a petulant toddler. He cleared his throat.
"What can I do to make it up? I should've done more to let you know I wasn't trying to hurt you. Or that I was fine. But I can't change that. Your upset and it's reasonable, so what can I do now? I don't think a sorry is enough. Even if it was for you, you'd deserve more than a sorry."
“Merlin, Alec, stop talking to me about what I deserve! I don’t need a god damn sorry, Alec, I need you to tell me what was happening- is happening! Sure, it’s aggravating that you just ditched me for months out of nowhere, but it just couldn’t have been out of nowhere.”
Wyatt’s throat-clearing earlier did nothing to stop him from getting loud again now. He was angry, not at Alec, but with him- if that made any sense. He wasn’t mad at Alec because the little brat didn’t talk to him for weeks and weeks, he was mad because something was wrong, and Alec wasn’t saying anything about it.
“Something had to push you to isolate yerself, and I’m annoyed you’re not telling me!”
Wyatt was forgetting how to mask everything. His accent, his expression. He was just exhausted. He crossed his arms and took a deep breath, softening his eyes and trying to meet Alec’s.
“I don’t want to make you tell me anything, but it might help?”

Alec swallowed, he bit his lip, letting his fingers graze on every groove on the pin as he held it. He felt like a child, not that he wasn't one. Maybe the feeling was more to be described with the fact that he felt foolish, silly if that made any sense. Alec couldn't make any sense of it, no. He was still just going off what he knew, which very much at this point in time led him nowhere. Once he'd finally got some spoken words in he let Wyatt start to speak. Though Wyatt's voice was loud, his words took a different approach. He was frustrated with Alec, nobody was allowed to deny that, but for different reasons it seemed. In other words though Wyatt was hurt Alec hadn't been talking to him, he was more upset with the fact Alec could now but in a way, wasn't. The concept was hard to wrap his head around, but he wasn't going to comment; it seemed like Wyatt had much more to add about the subject manner, anyway.
And Wyatt spoke again. His words reminded him of Atticus's. Especially when Alec's letter were unusually short, though letters from Atticus were far and few he made sure to check up on Alec like Wyatt always had since they'd gotten to Hogwarts, Alec doing the same. But Alec was right about one thing, Wyatt was upset because Alec could talk to him now, but wasn't. He wasn't telling Wyatt anything, Alec knew it could be frustrating, still it was a matter of what to say about it all as well. Alec's eyes peeked up at Wyatt, his face showing everything, Alec could usually recognize an emotion or two on Wyatt's face but right now their seemed to be so many of them. Watching as Wyatt crossed his arms before taking a deep breath, looking Alec's way, who at the point hadn't been trying to make it very obvious he'd been watching Wyatt closely.
Once their eyes met Alec looked away quickly before looking back, It was hard to be focused under Wyatt's gaze. Alec stayed quiet. It was quiet for a few more moments before Wyatt spoke again. Making the suggestion that it would make Alec feel better if he told Wyatt what was going on, and honestly that probably would've been the case, if he were to do that.
Alec fumbled with the pin more again, he could feel a worse feeling edging at his throat, "It's stupid Wyatt. I shouldn't even be this upset about it.." Alec said his voice seemed to break, trying to be deflective about the issue again though he knew this time it wouldn't work in his favor. To keep himself attentive, Alec was messing with the pin so he wouldn't look away from Wyatt, though as the seconds passed it became more and more tempting to do so. His gaze seemed more and more demanding of a proper answer, even as it looked soft and kind, caring. Alec knew he cared. That would never be an issue, Wyatt was Wyatt.. Though it seemed to be hard to convince the other way around.
Stuck in this stupid mess all Alec wanted right now was a hug, a comfort, especially to a hug starved child like him, but at this point he'd feel silly asking for one. Alec moved and stopped messing with the pin. This time he'd finally look away, his eyes staring at the ground. He'd move his foot, watching as his shoe scuffed against the ground. The quietness wasn't a good look on him, Alec would move his lips to speak but he'd stop before any coherent words could come out. "I don-" "I" "You.." "but.." His voice would stay soft, eventually quitting his attempts with a scowl and an aggravated sigh. It would be silence.. Again. Or at the very least from Alec, Wyatt could've attempted to get something in, though if anything had been said, the words we're lost on Alec.
"My parents got divorced.." He whispered soon enough. Alec wouldn't look back up, but instead go to deny the subject as if it was nothing of importance to him. "Like I said it's stupid, and it doesn't matter that much, I just got a little hung up on it. There was obviously more to it than that factor, mattering more about Alec's thoughts and the events that happened with it because of such a divorce than simply just that. It couldn't excuse a thing.

A Night For-
"It's stupid Wyatt. I shouldn't even be this upset about it.."
Wyatt wasn’t sure how he should feel at that. Was Alec trying to comfort him by making the thing that kept himself locked away from the rest of the world seem like not a big deal? Maybe it wasn’t. Maybe all this was in Wyatt’s head. Maybe he was really just busy for a few months without realizing it.
"I don-"
But that couldn’t be. Alec did have a tendency to make his own problems seem like nothing to calm the nerves of others who cared about him. When they talked about deeper things during the summer, Alec seemed to cover up important details about himself and his experiences, but it was almost like he actually believed those things didn’t matter… It really bugged Wyatt that Alec didn’t take his own problems seriously at all.
"I-"
Wyatt didn’t know if he was ready to hear what Alec had to say. If it was really bad, if someone had died, he didn’t know how it would hurt him. Though Wyatt hadn’t had too much experience with friendships before Alec, he knew that once he cared for someone, he’d feel their pain- even if whatever they were saying had nothing to do with them. Even if it was something as small as their pet hamster dying. He felt too much pain.
"You..."
Because that’s just what happens when people you care about are hurting. You hurt for them. Wyatt didn’t like that. He didn’t like feeling pain because, to put it in the simplest, most understandable terms imaginable, it hurt. And he never knew if it was normal. And he didn’t like feeling not-normal. Besides, only a few people were stupid enough to try and be his friend before Hogwarts. It was much easier to avoid friendships than to make them.
"But…"
Wyatt’s vision had blurred long ago. His eyes were watery and unfocused. He was looking at Alec, but his mind was somewhere else. Thinking. Like usual. Wyatt bit his lip and tried to focus on Alec, hoping Alec would answer soon.
“What, Alec?”
The Slytherin was met with more of that stupid silence.
Then,
"My parents got divorced…"
If Wyatt was any further away he might’ve missed the whisper.
"Like I said it's stupid, and it doesn't matter that much, I just got a little hung up on it."
Wyatt hadn’t noticed yet, but his jaw had slightly dropped when Alec said divorced.
More importantly, though, Alec was still saying his parent’s divorce wasn’t anything? It was so infuriating. What was more infuriating though, was that Wyatt didn’t know what to say. How to react. Someone had trusted him with important, life-changing family drama conflicts. He was honored, and confused, and sad, and worried.
He took a deep breath through his nose, closing his mouth in the process.
Wyatt wanted to hug Alec and tell him that everything was going to be okay. And that it was okay to feel sad, but it was also important to know that sorrow is temporary. And that he could also go to Wyatt if he ever needed to talk, or cry, or break plates or something. And that this will make him stronger, but all that came out was.
“Oh.”
Wyatt mentally kicked himself.
Oh? Really?
He knew that wasn’t good enough. He knew that he had to say something better. To help. He took another deep breath.
“Do you want a hug…?” He was awfully quiet, but Alec should’ve probably heard most of the sentence.
If Alec says No:
Wyatt nodded.
“Alright,” he said, gently.
It was an offer, if Alec decided not to take it, it was entirely his choice. Funnily enough, Wyatt felt a tinge of disappointment. He decided to focus on anything other than that and stuffed his hands in his pockets.
“Are you okay?”
If Alec says Yes:
Wyatt nodded. For a split second, he hesitated. Then, he wrapped Alec in a hug. His head was above Alec’s left shoulder, hovering there, the owner of that head unsure whether he should rest it on Alec’s shoulder or not. Ultimately, he decided not to.
His hold on Alec was gentle, but firm, implying he wasn’t planning on letting go of Alec. Implicitly telling him he was there for Alec whenever he needed him. Wyatt was a relatively scrawny kid, but he wasn’t stabbing Alec with bone or anything.
Something about Alec made Wyatt feel comfortable. The hug maybe lasted 7 seconds or so. Wyatt felt that was long enough for some comfort. He began to pull away.
