I Don't Think I Like You
Katie was walking softly down the corridors. She had just left Charms which was her last class for today. She had gotten an O on the homework assignment, and Katie was quite proud of it.Interacting With/Mentioning: @Anastasia BeckettTime: 4:30 PM

Katie then noticed an older girl with blonde hair and realized it was Anastasia Beckett. Katie glared at Beckett. This was the girl who she faulted most fort ruining her holidays. And here she was, acting as though nothing mattered. At least that's how Katie perceived her. Katie despised Anastasia Beckett for one main reason. The fancy pure-blood ball that she had thrown in December. Katie's parents had forced her to stay with them over winter break and then the icing on all that ugly cake was that she had to attend Miss. Beckett's ball.
Merlin had Katie hated it. If wad excessively lavish and an utter waste of resources. To think some people could barely pay their tent and then this girl was just up their flaunting her wealth for the world to see? Now it would have been one thing if her parents had decided to host out and she was fired Rio play along with their whims much like how it was for Katie these days. Instead, Anastasia had initiated the whole thing herself! Her parents weren't even in attendance showing that she hadn't even cared enough to let her parents know she was hosting some truly party for a bunch of snooty pure-bloods too come to.
Of course, Anastasia Beckett had acted like nothing was out of the ordinary. From her frivolous outfit Beckett had worn to the stupid ball she had initiated and held, Katie was less than pleased with Beckett's actions. Our course, Katie's parents were more at fault that Anastasia was, but Katie pinned the blame all on Anastasia Beckett. After all, if the frivolous Gryffindor hadn't thrown the pure-blood ball in the first place, her parents wouldn't have recorded an invite or been able to attend - cause out wouldn't have happened.
In short, Anastasia Beckett was the one responsible for Katie's terrible time over the Winter holidays. At first, after noticing Anastasia, Katie considered just letting her walk on by, and icily ignoring her, but then it felt like Katie would be letting Beckett get away with her actions that had ruined Katie's winter break. Katie didn't feel like she could just let that slide.
"Hey Anastasia Beckett" Katie called out in a slightly rude, sing-song voice. I thought I should inform you that I attended your ball and... I loved it! Katie continued, watching carefully for her inevitable reaction of some sort. After a three second pause, Katie threw her head back and laughed. A genuine laugh, not a fake one, but a mocking laugh nonetheless. Just kidding! she quickly said, It sucked! she finished, briefly pausing, before deciding to add more, I hope you didn't honestly think I actually enjoyed it for a moment there. You don't strike me as dumb, but then again, you did host that wretched glorified dance after all. Katie said, still maintaining her glare on Anastasia Beckett, watching to see what Beckett would do next.

Ana was having a surprisingly uneventful week back at school, which was a welcome change of pace after the chaos of her holidays. Granted, she had gotten into fights every other first week back at school, so there wasn't a high bar. Still, she was elated to be back at school and the grief that had been weighing on her since the summer seemed to have lessened. No, lessened wasn't the right word. She had become accustomed to it and had resolved not to let it tear her apart anymore. Her mother was gone, she had accepted that. While she loathed the lies that her aunt and uncle were spreading to explain her parents' disappearance, they had given her some relief. The rumors about her parents had lessened, and she was ready for a fairly calm spring term.
Her gala had gone well, despite a few hiccups. Her parents' legacy was a heavy burden to bear, but she cleared the first obstacle. She had been raised to lead the Beckett household, if perhaps not quite so soon. While it still wasn't what she would have chosen if given the chance, she had adjusted to it. The Gala had been a show of strength, a reminder that the Becketts were a force to be reckoned with and that Anastasia's youth wasn't a reason to discount her. While she didn't enjoy the ball in theory, the actual event had been surprisingly enjoyable. Mostly due to her friends, but also in part to her pleasure at having pulled it off successfully.
As she walked the halls, there was a notable difference in her from the fall. Most obviously, she was blonde now. Still, she seemed to carry herself with the assurance of past years, even if it was completely fake now, and her appearance was flawless. Not a hair or thread was out of place, in sharp contrast with the messy ponytails and hallway fights of the first term.
Thoughts of homework and Quidditch flashed through her mind, as she wondered if she had time to grab a cup of coffee before practice. She had stayed a bit after her last class to ask a question, so the halls were more empty than they normally were after her last class of the day. Biting her lip, she decided against the coffee, since she still had to drop off her school things and get changed for practice, and Gryffindor tower was all the way across the castle from the Great Hall. With her destination in mind, she began to walk quickly. If she was quick changing, maybe she could swing by the Hall on her way to practice.
She heard her name called and rolled her eyes. She couldn't identify the voice, so it was likely some first-year who thought themself interesting for daring to speak to her. As whoever it was continued to babble despite Ana's not so much as slowing her pace, Ana sighed heavily and glanced at the source. It was a spectacularly short girl, with eyebrows that seemed rather too large for her face. Ana was tall for her age and towered over her. While the height difference didn't help Ana narrow it down much, she assumed it was a safe guess that whoever this was was a first year.
Ana's face didn't so much as move as the girl laughed about how horrible the event had been. As if Ana cared much for the opinion of a first-year troll. Still, she would have to deal with this. The Beckett Gala was the event of the winter season, and if this girl felt comfortable saying things like this, she could jeopardize that. It was one of the most exclusive events of the year and considered a great honor to attend. While Ana had expanded the guest list that year, to include school friends and potential allies in the Pureblood world, it didn't change the fact that the Gala, to Ana at least, was the gold standard. Whoever this was would have to get the message such conduct was impermissible.
"It's Lady Anastasia Beckett to the likes of you," Ana said disgust and irritation dripping from her voice as she literally looked down her nose at whoever this was. Her foot began tapping impatiently. She definitely wasn't going to have time for coffee now. "And that's easily remedied, remind me of your name so that I may remove them from all further guest lists. I'll have to write to explain that you so kindly expressed an interest in not attending any more Galas or any Beckett events for that matter." Was it a bit cruel and extreme of Ana to do that? Absolutely. She was sure that, as whoever this was invited to the Gala, this girl's parents were similar to her own, meaning they wouldn't take kindly to what Ana was suggesting. She could only imagine the lecture and punishment she would get if she had ever warranted anything like this.

Katie listened to Anastasia Beckett lecture her like she was an immature, bratty little first year. Logically, Katie knew that it would not be wise to continue arguing with the older third year, but Katie wasn't thinking everything through carefully as she was beyond mad.Interacting With: @Anastasia BeckettTime: 4:30 PM

Then, Katie went completely still as she mentioned talking to Katie's parents. Katie hated her parents with a burning passion. Katie's anger at Anastasia grew exponentially intro a furry or rage. Yet Katie stayed still, hiding these emotions behind her pale Slytherin mask. "Pardon me," Katie said, her voice soft, menacing, and full of hatred, "I didn't see your parents at your glorified let's-pretend-we-are-princesses dance, so I must have assumed you didn't even have them. Obviously you have picked up that I don't care for mine, so do you not care for your parents? Is that why you were the only Beckett there? Because you couldn't be bothered to invite them?" Katie asked, "Or, I know!" Katie said, still smirking, "Maybe they don't like you!" she said, "You probably tried to invite them and they just couldn't be bothered to come because they think that you are a failure of a daughter and will never amount to anything." Katie continued, fists slightly clenched.
"I'll let you in on a secret girl," Katie said, almost spitting the word 'girl' at the blonde third year. "You don't have to play princess dress-up dance party to try and make your mussing-in-action parents proud of you for once in your pathetic life. In fact, nobody even liked your frilly dance, the it are all just too afraid to say it to your ugly face because they all think you'll murder them. So will you sink to murder because you're feelings got hurt?" Katie said, continuing to taunt the third year in front of her. In all reality, Katie doubted this third year would actually kill anyone, but Katie's goal want to speak the truth - it was to make Beckett question just how much the people that she thought liked her, actually did.
"And besides," Katie said, still looking at Anastasia Beckett with intense hated in her eyes, "Who died and made you Lady Beckett? Katie questioned in a rude, snarky tone in response to Anastasia's name demand.
Katie wanted to hex Anastasia Beckett. The dancing feet spell would be a good one since Beckett liked dancing so much. Katie thought about this idea for a moment. Katie then realized something crucial that she had been forgetting. Anastasia Beckett, for all her flaws and weaknesses, was a third year student and likely was a lot more powerful and knowledgeable about spell casting and dueling than Katie, a first year student, was. so Katie decided not to go through with the insane plan of hers.
Katie did, however; send a cold glare at the girl who had dashed her hopes at an enjoyable her Winter Break. Katie was really mad at the third year Gryffindor called Anastasia Beckett.

Ana was beyond over this. She didn't want to deal with snotty Pureblood adults who were all completely certain of their own superiority, but she did. She didn't want to deal with her stupid family. But she did. She did those things because she had to. She most definitely did not have to put up with this random first-year spewing nonsense.
"First of all, I'm now concerned for your vision as well as your obviously inferior intellect," Ana said, her voice ice cold. She wasn't going to let this brat get a rise out of her. "There were several other Becketts, so consider confirming your opinions before you state them as facts and look like a complete and utter moron. You clearly have issues with your own family that you're projecting onto me and mine and while some charitable part of me pities you for it, I really have far better things to do than be berated by a lunatic pleb."
Ana's stomach twisted at the ugly all too familiar rumor. Who in their right mind thought that murder was something to talk about in such a manner? If Ana had done that, obviously, she wouldn't be here. She couldn't swallow the rumor that her aunt and uncle had begun to spread as if it was a fact - that her mother had died of dragon pox and her father had become so overcome with grief that he had simply fled his entire life and was missing. It was stupid and so melodramatic it seemed to belong in an opera rather than real life. Enough adult Purebloods had seemed to believe it though, and evidently, some of her schoolmates did as well, since the nasty rumors had died down after the break.
Whatever the girl was trying to achieve, she was failing. There was nothing she said that was worse than what Ana had heard every day from her parents growing up or that she didn't say to herself every moment of every day.
"My mother," Ana said slowly as if she was speaking to a particularly stupid small child. "Do you have no comprehension as to how such titles are passed on?"
The girl continued to glare and Ana rolled her eyes with exasperation. What did this girl even want? Ana had offered to disinvite her and her family from future events and yet she persisted in whatever this was. Ana was making a concentrated effort to better control her impulses, but this girl was pushing her to her limit.

"Awwwwwwww..." Katie said in fake sadness, mocking Beckett, "Mommy Beckett died. What happened to Daddy Beckett to prevent him from just getting the fancy meaningless title of Lord?" Katie asked mockingly.
"Of course I know how titles are passed on," Katie said with an eye roll, "my parents are pure-blood. See the difference between me and you is I know that being a pure-blood doesn't means a damn thing." Katie added, sarcastically.
Katie was exceptionally angry now. For one, everyone knew that other members of a family had absolutely no problem lying to cover something up. Katie knew her own parents and many of their friends well enough to know that being pure-blood, woo not a crime in itself, became exceptionally problematic when you were proud of it. Like literally who honestly cares except other stuck up pure-bloods. Katie could tell than Beckett was stuck up about being pure-blooded. Katie thought the while conveyor of calling pure-bloods pure-bloods, implying that they were more pure than nonpurebloods, was refocus but Katie didn't have a better word to call them.
Not to mention that it wasn't every day that a Hogwarts student became a Lord our Lady. Besides, no sane pure-blood would be so proud of their status in like like Anastasia seemed to be. Like Katie's parents were. Katie had simply had enough to deal with at home to add on dealing with people like Beckett at school.
Katie could not understand how some people could be so ignorant of reality. Literally no one cared about Beckett and yet she was acting so superior and confident in her pure-bloodedness. Once upon a time, Katie had been to. Then she grew up. Anastasia Beckett was one of the rudest, most entitled people she had ever met. She needed to be taken down a peg.
Katie could do that. She had been practicing the spells so she should have better luck of success. Better than just luck in fact. She didn't want to do something to harm the girl since it wasn't like she could very easily. She wasn't dumb enough to think she could duel Beckett. But a prank spell that would encased the stuck up pure-blood witch?
Now that was increasingly looking like a good idea. Katie could walk away while Beckett was still embarrassing herself. Katie wouldn't get caught either. She stayed thinking through the dorks she knew. She found the perfect one: the dancing feet spell. Embarrassing and would take Beckett down a peg. After she cast it, she would head back to her dormitories and get ready for dinner. Katie briefly wondered how long it would take for someone to find Beckett. Hopefully a very long time. Hopefully, someone would come across her by accident. Who would miss the girl anyway?
Katie decided to start talking again in a tainting voice and then pull out her wand half way through top catch the girl of guard. "Do you actually believe some of the nonsense you say? You're clearly just another brilliantly stupid girl who can't" Katie said, and after saying 'can't', quickly pulled out her wand, made the wand movements fire the dancing feet spell and said "Tarantallegra!" while doing so. Katie smirked confidently, ready to walk away as soon as her spell worked.
