Waiting and Watching
September 21st
It's a bit short, but hopefully they'll get longer as it progresses @Scarlett AdenEver since the Sorting Ceremony on the first day of school, when her younger brother Cedar had been sorted into Gryffindor, Miranda had begun to see less and less of him. These days, it was like he didn't even exist. And after years of being nearly inseparable, it made her feel...odd. Like a part of her was missing. Sure, they'd spent the previous year apart as well when Miranda had gone to Hogwarts without him, but they'd still kept contact through owls, and when she went home for the holidays, it felt like nothing had changed. But now...it was definitely different. The only question was why. What had spurred him to avoid her?
Perhaps he was just busy? But no, the Cedar she knew would have still sought her out. Which meant it was her turn to look for him. He couldn't avoid her then...right?
That was the reason Miranda found herself climbing down from the Ravenclaw tower in search of the Gryffindor common room. Her brother had told her where the general area was, but seemed to find it amusing that she didn't know exactly where the entrance was, or how to open it. All she knew was that getting in didn't necessitate answering a riddle or question, like the Ravenclaw one did.
Hopefully, she'd get close enough to be able to see whenever he came or went, because otherwise...well, that would just be embarrassing.
Miranda positioned herself next to a painting of a knight holding a sword, glancing around the corridor for any sign of the familiar boy. Nothing.

When Scarlett had boarded the Hogwarts Express, excited to start her new year at the magical boarding school, she hadn't expected things to happen so quickly. It seemed like there was never a break for the young Gryffindor - she had re-united with a few of her friends on the train, got into a brawl just a few days after classes had started (she still hadn't forgiven that truly evil Anastasia Beckett), signed up for S.W.A.G club, something organised by Aurelia Notresvace where you participated in games which were usually pretty violent, hexing your enemies and living to tell the tale, had a mini-argument with her childhood friend, Flipendo-ed a Prefect, went inside the Forbidden Forest for the first time and met plenty of new people, most of them getting on her nerves.
It was a whirl of excitement and adventure, and the girl loved it. This was what Hogwarts should be like - dangerous and eventful. Sure, it was meant to be a safe school where young witches and wizards could learn spells and potions and how to fly a broomstick, but that was irrelevant. After all, when was Hogwarts ever safe?
Lessons had just finished for the day, and Scarlett had been outside again - the redhead seemed to adore the grounds of Hogwarts nowadays. She liked to dip her feet in the Great Lake, walk across rolling hills and peek into the Forbidden Forest, wondering when she would venture inside again. As Scarlett entered the castle, her Gryffindor robes flapping slightly from the wind that gusted inside when she had opened the gates, she decided to go back up to her common room, where it was warm and cosy and red. She could rendezvous with her friends and plan another dastardly adventure.
When she got to the portrait of the Fat Lady, decked out in a frilly pink dress, another girl was standing rather awkwardly in the corridor, seemingly waiting for something. She was near a portrait of some knight guy, who Scarlett knew annoyed the Fat Lady to great extents. Thankfully, the knight looked like he was napping.
The girl was blonde, and fairly familiar. Scarlett recalled seeing her as one of the other students trying to comfort Cash last year, after they received a Howler telling them their father had gone missing. Scarlett couldn't remember the blonde's name. She was terrible at names.
"I - what are you doing here?" asked Scarlett curiously, getting straight to the point as she addressed the other girl.

Waiting and Watching
@Scarlett Aden
Miranda had been standing there for perhaps half a dozen minutes or so, her gaze sweeping along the nearby corridors for any sign of her brother, or at the very least someone wearing the Gryffindor robes that she could ask about him. Unfortunately, she had no such luck, and eventually grew more interested in the movements of the nearby portraits. However, she was pulled from her watching by a voice asking what she was doing.
Startled, Miranda turned her head to see a girl with vibrantly red hair and brown eyes that was watching her with an inquisitive expression. She seemed to be familiar, but the Ravenclaw had a hard time placing her face.
A short silence ensued, in which Miranda retreated into her thoughts and tried to remember the girl's name. It was something like...red? No, that couldn't be it. She continued in this way for a few more seconds, then realized with a jolt that she probably looked strange to the other girl.
"Oh, ah, I was just waiting for someone. My brother, actually. His name's Cedar, Cedar Everest, and he's in his first year. Have you seen him at all recently?" Miranda hoped that the girl had, because otherwise she probably wasn't going to last very long waiting out here. It was extremely tedious, and she'd only been there for a little while. Maybe it would be better to wait at the Great Hall after meals in an attempt to ambush him there...surely he had to eat sometimes, right?
Her gaze grew distant as she retreated within her mind to contemplate that idea, which probably wasn't the most polite thing to do with another person possibly talking to her, but the Ravenclaw student couldn't help it - she was worried about her younger brother. Was he not liking school, and didn't want to face her, or was it something worse. Miranda tried not to think about it, but she found herself wondering whether some of the prejudices held again...those with her condition had been passed onto him. He hadn't liked it before, but what if it had grown even worse, and that was why he was avoiding her...
That thought made a worried frown appear on her face, and she sank so much out of reality that anyone speaking to her would have to repeat themselves to be heard.
