Starlee began to investigate the paper in the hopes that something... anything would show up. But alas, someone who had distracted her once before already this evening suddenly appeared next to her, and Starlee's eyes grew wide and her jaw dropped a little as she watched the older student attempt and fail to cast Revelio, apparently listening to her suggestion. What was it about this girl that made her so terrifying? And why was she still terrifying even though she had listened to Starlee's suggestion? Starlee tried to shake it off.

She was about to attempt to stare at the poem some more when she heard a familiar voice answering her question: Martyna. Starlee wasn't sure what the girl wanted this time, perhaps to harass Starlee and pick on her outfit even more, who knew. At first, she simply said 'No' in response to if anyone knew Revelio. Well of course Tina wouldn't know it, it was an upper-level spell! Starlee managed to avoid rolling her eyes at Tina, who apparently had more to say to her.

"Are you okay?" 'Okay?' How could Starlee be okay? Nothing she was doing in this hunt was working. She kept getting distracted by these people that just... exuded terrifying auras. She had shoved a sweet rather forcefully into her eye and it was still in pain. She had found a floating candle, only for it to just kinda float around and follow her like a little puppy. No real information from that. Some guy in a painting had gotten badly stabbed, they might even die. Elizabeth had insulted her at the ball, as per usual. She had fought with Tina about their ball outfits. Both of them had said things they now regretted.

She hadn't really thought about the collective night so far up until this point. And boy, this night so far had actually sucked. Starlee's face began to scrunch up as she fought with all these emotions. Coming to the forefront this time, was sadness. She didn't mean those things she said to Tina. She was upset, of course, but she hadn't meant to upstage her. She had been beyond excited to match with her best friend. Her eyes began to tear up.

"I... I shoved a sweet in my eye..." she told Tina, half crying and half laughing at the stupidity of it. She took a deep breath and then looked at Tina in her bulbous globe costume. "I... didn't mean what I said earlier. I really thought we were on the same page about all this. I........ I'm sorry." She truly did mean it, and she hoped her sincerity came through. She loved Tina, in their short time together they had become the best of friends and Starlee didn't want to lose that.

The night was a mess, Alec knowing he shouldn't have even gone if he had planned on sticking by himself at the ball anyhow. Alec was trying to figure out what to do but was often left behind, with himself spacing out so much, and constantly getting distracted, it felt as if it were a struggle to get anything done. His overthinking was getting the best of him as well as other things, and him trying to be "heroic", or make use of himself only brought that much more of a mess. Alec was twelve. What was he expected to be able to do? He had a basic idea of everything going on, but that obviously wasn't enough. He wasn't extraordinary or anything, in fact it always felt it was quite the opposite. It seems second year Alec had become more dumbed down then first year Alec at this point, or at the very least he felt as so. They had come to school to learn, Alec had no idea what it had turned into at this point. Even Alec's intentions with coming back to Hogwarts for his second year certainly hadn't been to learn. Alec glanced towards Leo and Marshal.. So much had happened in what felt like so little time, and it felt like Alec was just standing there, even if he was trying to observe and gain more awareness on the whole situation. "I'm gonna check out what's going on up there, follow me if you want." The words were said quickly as he made his way away from the two. In other words, I'm leaving you to make myself useful, please don't be mad, I said you could follow me. Alec taking a deep breath turned himself to other things. It was needless to worry, just do, do anything at this point Alec. Even if it makes you look completely and utterly stupid.

Alec made his way through the lot of people who'd also wanted to do much of the same thing and to the third location, or simply in Alec's mind following where a group of people had gathered, Alec had become a wandering sheep with all his following. His feet glided across the cobblestone floor quickly as he made his way following others, hoping to find some sort of purpose to make himself useful while he was here. At the very least a familiar face was here, while sort of close to the other people he'd left behind, it was a different thing with Starkey. The two of them were close in a foreign way to Alec. Growing up it was quite fair to say there'd been quite a bit of towards Alec and his well-being, not only physically, but mentally and emotionally as well. You'd never think there was so much running through Alec's head being the quiet child he was before happening at Hogwarts. But with so much he wanted to say, so little who were willing to listen, and actually care for Alec in the way he needed to be cared for. It was no surprise a few friends could bring Alec out of his shell. Even as he felt with the rising amount of uncertainty in him that he simply just wanted to crawl back into his shell. That's when he finally noticed a painting was missing, Giselle the one the other painting, Giaz something had been talking about.

From the small hall to this he'd known many a painting, each more distinctive than the last one. And each one just as more curious as the other about the drama that happened in the day-to-day life of Alec. While Alec didn't care to admit it, as a first year he'd had a habit of ranting his problems to himself, often in the view of the paintings. He'd quit it now, too many's a dismay, but at least the painting knew fairly well of his personal life. As Alec began to look closer he'd realized each one of the paintings people had stopped by looked to be harmed, or something seemed to be missing. But now there was simply just a missing painting? Who'd taken it? Really, at this point, what was going on at this school?

"1. The beginning of Pain 2. A thief’s helper smudged line smudged line 5. A ball’s for Dancing smudged line 7. Flipendo! 8. Protection from Horror smudged line smudged line empty line 11. Blindness 12. First Aid smudged line smudged line smudged line smudged line"

People were trying to figure out what it meant. Suggestions scattered everywhere. It was like a riddle, though, with everyone going on, not a very fun one. Maybe the first letter of item listed? Even if a few were smudged out? T, A, A, F, P, B, F .. That wasn't it.. Maybe every capitalized letter, going off other peoples ideas. T, P, A, A, D, F, P, H, B, F, A .. Alec stayed quiet before speaking, his self-silence being a bit much to handle at the moment, something had to be said. "Maybe this isn't being looked at right. The painting's missing, right? Well, why would spells be of any use?" His wording sounded stupid, and he knew it. "Er, what I mean is, I understand spells help one aid with everything. But wouldn't it make more sense for it to be a person, place, time, or thing?" I'd be more of a lead, then spells would. What were you supposed to do after finding it was a list of spells anyway, if so? There needed to be instruction to it, then that. It also could be possible Alec was simply just thinking into it too much, there was a tendency to do so in the boy. Alec gave an awkward laugh, unsure if anyone had heard him, "But of course, what do I know..?" His voice went from moderately loud to nothing but a whisper. His eyes adverted the gaze of everyone who dare look his way, hoping he hadn't caused a scene. Biting his lip nervously as he turned his gaze back to the note. Person, place, time, or thing, it left many options, but surely something put together like this would be eye catching. Alec would cast the revealing spell, but with little amount of confidence he had in his spell casting skills at this moment, maybe someone else would try it again.

Something distracted Ana, possibly the unreasonable attractiveness of another student. How dare they be so nice to look at when she was trying to focus? Her spells never sputtered like that and she was frustrated that her wand had chosen now to be so uncooperative. Huffing, she recentered herself and tried again. "Revelio!" she said, with a sharp swish of her wand. She prayed for the spell to take this time. She had already failed in so many things, she couldn't fail in this. It seemed sometimes all she was capable of was failure, no matter how hard she tried or how diligently she worked.

Her bottom lip began to quiver slightly as her thoughts began to speed out of control. She was a failure of a daughter, a failure of a friend, and now a failure of a witch. While she was a perfectionist, at the end of the day, she just strove to be enough. Try as she might, she didn't have to be the best at everything, she just had to be good enough to quiet the whispers of failure that constantly trailed her. She bit her lip and swallowed hard, refusing to show a chink in the armor to anyone who might be near. The only thing she constantly had was her dignity (debatable) and she wasn't willing to lose it. She was going to cast that spell since clearly, nobody around her was particularly helpful.

Dee looked up with a smile at Ruka's laugh, then followed his fond gaze back to their quiet companions. "That sounds like a great adventure," she remarked, eyebrow quirking up in amusement. "The bunny was lucky to meet you and Mr Frog, then."

It was odd. She hadn't been planning to join this adventure, follow the chase around the castle, hadn't seen the point in doing so. She'd done so on a whim, chosen Ruka's promise of adventure over Zykeal's mood swings and standoffishness, the tingle of excitement over frustration. And now that she was here... Well, there wasn't much for her to do, really. She wasn't going to make a difference in this mystery. And yet, she was enjoying herself more than she had at the Masquerade.

There was nothing awkward to her in the way Ruka grabbed her hand, and then her eyes widened at the promise of fire, the excitement on his face.

Being around Ruka was somehow its own, very special kind of magic, made her feel weightless, like she was really about to fly. Dee was always impulsive, yes, jumping into things head-first without thinking them through, but Ruka seemed to be able to fan that little flame of recklessness, coax it into a wildfire, furious and consuming. Needless to say, they had the potential to get each other into a lot of trouble. Fun trouble - but trouble.

Which was probably what she was headed towards now, holding his hand and letting herself, again, be guided from her own event, a trail of glitter in her wake.

Elspeth was gutted to find her spell did not work. She had thought she was performing better in Transfiguration these days. But perhaps the thought of Maggie on the ground somewhere—lost, abandoned, or stepped on—was just too much for the wee second year to handle. The pygmy puff pet was the closest thing she had to family.

No, Maggie was family. That's why the situation was so desperate.

But around her seemed to be a similarly desperate situation, even if wasn't completely cognizant of it. Around her, the students in fancy dress seemed to flit and fly along the cobbles like a snowstorm. Paranoid that one of them would step on Maggie and end her life, Elsie followed them. She hoped, of course, her pet was smart enough not to go in their direction, but it was better to err in that direction.

Eventually, she happened upon a portrait. She wasn't sure, but something seemed off about it. Perhaps this was what had been causing all the hoopla—it had seemed odd this many students would be away from the ballroom when there had been so much excitement about the dance.

And so it was in both fear and curiosity, she picked up the side of her pajama trousers, and moved to follow the group. Her head remained down for a sigh of purple fur as she moved.

Action: Trying to catch up with the group.

The events from earlier kept playing over in Robert's mind, like some terrible soundtrack to a movie. Against his will, the memory of the spell shooting out of his wand seemed to be stuck in a loop, with no way out. While before, he'd still been mostly aware of his surroundings, by now he was entirely shut off from the real world, trapped in a waking nightmare. The more times he remembered the events that had just happened, the more he twisted them, forgetting the reasons behind his actions and focusing on the all-consuming fire and verbal abuse. I deserve this, he thought to himself. I did something terrible, and this is the consequence. Once again, he raised his wand, once again, the painting caught fire, once again, the other students yelled at him, and once again, the cycle started over again. I deserve this.

Suddenly, he was violently thrown from his thoughts, pulled back into the real world by the one thing he both longed for and dreaded the most, an act of love from another person. To Robert, Callista's hug was akin to being woken from a dream soaked in freezing water, shaking him unwillingly out of the living hell he was in. The glaring light making him screw his eyes shut didn't help much either. As hard as he tried not to notice, the sweet smell of honey and books assaulted his nose, forcing him to remember happier memories of afternoons spent in the library. Without thinking, he started raising his arms to hug her back, embracing the warmth and concern radiating from every pore of the girl.

However, with a willpower Robert didn't think he had, the boy stopped his arms from moving, stopped himself from achieving happiness he didn't believe he deserved. "No..." he muttered. "No," this time with more conviction. Wrenching himself away from his friend, he was flooded with relief as the warmth receded, as the coldness enveloped him in a much different embrace than he'd been in moments earlier. If any spark had momentarily returned to his eyes, it was quickly doused again. This is better, he thought to himself.

Realizing that there was nothing left for him to do here, he began walking away, letting his feet carry him where they would. If anyone were to try and get his attention or interact with him, he would studiously ignore them, avoid eye contact, bow his head, and keep walking. Eventually, he would make his way up to the outside of the Ravenclaw common room, where, not caring enough to think through any riddle the door where to give him, he would sink to the floor. Burying his head in his arms, he returned to his self-inflicted mental torturing. I deserve this.

Gaiz's eyes turned sad, almost wistful as Scarlett asked him about Giselle. He didn't seem to be angry anymore, his fury almost dissolving out of him as he looked into the distance like a corny romance movie and sighed, talking about how Giselle was his 'one and only' but how that was over and he should've moved on. Scarlett felt a little pang in her heart at the pathetic sight of the man who was raging mad a few seconds ago, now deflated - defeated - just at one mention of his long-lost love. Strangely, sympathy crept up upon her, but at that moment, her friend Cassie frowned, and began to talk to Scarlett, informing her that the Giselle girl was just down the corner. Oh. Well in that case-

"Absolute genius Cassie!" said Scarlett excitedly, albeit a bit loudly. "Okay Gaiz, you are going to go over to Giselle's portrait and we'll work things out."

Scarlett followed Cassie, not daring to offer to carry the portrait because though she was a Beater, her strength wasn't amazing yet. She was working on it though! Once they got there (the location was rather obvious from the students milling about it), Scarlett's mouth dropped open in shock. There wasn't any painting! Or portrait! Or anything? Except - except a little note. Scarlett inspected the note, something about the beginning of Pain - in capitals - and a thief, a ball...what? Scarlett didn't understand. All she could do was study it, and pray her mind came up with something.

Henry looked for clues but couldn't help but feel a sense of panic as his anxiety suddenly increased. His eyes scanned for any clues but he couldn't extract find any as he turned anyway from the rather rude portal and decided to go off alone to the next location. As he walked his breathing increased and back of his neck tickled with sweat as his eyes scanned each part of the room with thoughts entering his mind and situations making his anxiety increase and likely to have a panic attack go up with it.
Third Location
Arriving at the third location, Henry ran his hand along the wall as a way to control hid anxiety and hide his emotions which was looking to a certain extent as his breathing quicken and thoughts flashed by his eyes so fast that it was starting to make him dizzy forcing him to lean his hand on the wall to support his weight as his anxiety increased and looking up at the others something invisible appeared around him. Almost like a barrier, blocking out other's words along with a blinding light that only he could see making him squint his eyes as he slowly started to black out. Shaking his head a bit and more a moment retuning to reality as he looked around and failed to find Nick a thought appeared in his mind as he wondered where his friend was before looking around for Cash and again not able to find the fellow slytherin. So Henry then approached Scarlett and let his eyes scan around the room before he whispered so low that only her perhaps barley could hear, "I'm uh going for reasons, good luck with the rest of this and tell me what happens later," giving the red head a half smile as his anxiety was now clearing soaking into the tweens face before whispering again to the girl, " see you later Scar," before turning and leaving the rest of the group letting his breath quicken as he pulled at his shit collar and loosen a but before almost running outside and finally breathing in larger breaths before taking off his mask and holding his hands behind his head.

"Sorry! Sorry!" Cassie gasped out as the painting's two occupants screamed clutched each other for support. "Sorry, I just- Can you-" she gave up. "Eh, just hold on or something I guess..." The muggleborn gave the girl in the painting a wince. "I'm sorry... this isn't really about you, is it?"

Cassie lead the way down the corridor, trying to remember the way the ghostly cat had gone. She didn't know how to navigate Hogwarts, but luckily she had Scarlett with her, who had already gone there for a year and probably knew her way around. Cassie was a little slower than she usually would have been from lugging the painting around with her, but she was quite strong and could handle it. "Bet this sort of thing doesn't usually happen in Hogwarts, huh?" she asked her friend wryly. "Way more exciting that Beauxbatons. Y'know, we have a whole magical arts class? Utter waste of time, who cares about art when there's magic?"

They arrived at Giselle's painting soon enough... but where was it? It appeared that a note had been pinned in its place, and Cassie couldn't figure out what any of it meant. "'Scuse me, comin' through," she said as she manuvered her way through the crowd of students, carrying the painting with her. With an effort, she held it up so that Gaiz could read the parchment. "Know anythin' 'bout that, Mr One True Love?"

No. There was nothing else to see, except that the lines were oddly smudged. It was definitely not caused by accident — like someone spilled their milk or juice on it. It was caused…by magic.

Frowning a bit, she looked at the note again. Anastasia Beckett had just casted a Revelio, right? But it didn’t work somehow. Her brows knitted. Maybe she should try it herself this time…casting spells wasn’t really a thing for her, or was it? Still she believed there was a chance that each line represented a spell, and…what if they casted them one by one?

She began correcting herself on what the first spells was. Incendio…no, maybe. The “P” of pain was capitalized. So maybe the spell started with P? And it would cause pain…she half closed her eyes. Could it be…Periculum? No. Periculum wouldn’t cause pain. It would simply call for help. And if she casted the spell, would it be sort of signal? Would the evil force all come out when she cast the spell? Lindsey didn’t know. But somehow she believed that it was the right spell.

“I don’t know what will happen…but…” she struggled. The words seemed saying to Wyatt, but actually, people near her could hear as well. “These lines were spells. I don’t know why, but I think it would help us solving all these…” and then she started firmly. “We should cast the spells by all means. Maybe something bad would happen, but we have to do it. We have no choice.” And she raised her wand up, pointed at the roof. “I…I think I’d like to give my guessing a try. I’m sorry if I was wrong…”

“Periculum.” she pronounced clearly. Hopefully it wouldn’t do any harm and could even call some professors to help. She had been solving the riddle for a long time, and now it was the time to carry out her guessing…even if this spell summoned some evil forces, she hoped that it could be worth it. And she would definitely be fighting to her last minute. But pray, do let nothing harmful happen…hopefully…hopefully…
