Oct. 16: Four Hours Until Ball
It was a mere four hours before the Autumn Ball and Katrina decided she was going to offer her services to get the students of Hogwarts ready. Sure, she was only going to the ball to protect and keep watch, but that didn't mean she wasn't going to dress up and enjoy prepping herself-- and others.
Katrina strode around the classroom cleaning it up in her normal Gryffindor sweatshirt and leggings. She assumed a few people might come in their getup, but she would rather get stray products on her clothes rather than her ball outfit. That was the main reason she had decided to close the room before the ball, that and the fact that she needed time to clean up.
Katrina had copious amounts of experience with dying hair. In fact, she had a whole bag filled with dyes and materials to dye hair, there were colors from black to neon pink, deep blue to bright blonde. There was even a bottle of the teal dye she used to color the streak of her own auburn hair. Sure, Katrina knew the simple spell to change her hair color on command, but what fun was that? Besides, this was more reliable. Katrina set out the bottles on an old desk covered with an old scrap towel she often used with her hair, the towel was to protect the table from any spillage. A sign on the table stated that "the dyes were only to be used with someone with experience, call for Katrina Walker if you need assistance"
One bad thing about being at Hogwarts was the fact that there were no electrical outlets to plug in hair dryers or curling irons or other things. So instead, she had dared to go back several hundred years and use a heated rod to curl hair, although after one attempt on her own hair was as far as she had gotten, there were other things to try anyway. So the curler lay in a corner, for it anyone really wanted to attempt to use it.
On a second desk, Katrina had set out all of the hair sprays, hair gels, one-use hair bands, and anything else she could get from the other students in her dorm who had donated to her somewhat noble cause. She also had made friends with someone who was made barrettes and Katrina had traded several arts and a short story Liam wrote for them. If all went well, people could borrow the barrettes for the night and return them the next morning, if not, Christmas presents came early. A sign on the table stated that "all products here can be used without direct permission. All barrettes must be returned post ball to Katrina Walker".
There were a few more tables set up, covered in everything from old Hogwarts Headliners to extra towels, it was her main goal to keep everything clean and follow the rules. Didn't want another pillow fort disaster.
She left out a few empty tables in the hopes that someone would bring other supplies like nail polish and makeup with signs on each table indicating what would go where. But for now, the room was complete. All surfaces that were a danger to getting anything stainable on them were covered and Katrina was ready to have the room close with enough time to clean everything up before the Ball.
Katrina set out a few seats near each table, ready for the room to be filled. Now all she had to do was wait.
ReducioThis is an open thread for anyone who wishes to prep for the ball! Those who had an interest in joining: @Jess Malters @Astrea Soleil Neptune
Boomerang is hanging out in a corner somewhere if you want to add him in and Kat will be open to any and all interactions. I would be more than happy to help your characters with anything their hearts desire (as long as it is ball prepping). Please don't break any school rules, besides that, go wild!
If you choose to do an IC hair dye, I can do a 2 sickle pfp edit you can use for the ball! Or for longer if you choose a permanent dye!
As for the barrettes, think something like this: Feel free to godmod them being similar to this with any image you find online.

Paisley had seen the flyer, and she knew she had to go. She hurried to the classroom, her train of thought seeming to trail behind her. A few words ran through her head, What will mom and dad think... but she pushed them away, to the back of her mind where they could sit for the time being. There was no time to think about what her parents would say. She couldn't let other's opinions get in the way of who she wanted to be.
She arrived at the classroom and was seemingly the first one there. A girl with a streak of dyed hair stood in the room, and Paisley was glad someone here had experience. After all, that was what Paisley was here for. She wanted to get her hair dyed for the ball, and for once she wouldn't care what anyone else thought about it. This was surprising, especially for Paisley, who's biggest moral was to be generally liked and approved of. If she thought someone wouldn't like something she was going to do, she wouldn't, no doubt about it. Getting her hair dyed was something many would like, and yet others wouldn't.
"Hi." she said, realizing how small her voice must sound to an older student like her Gryffindor housemate. She tried to make herself look taller, but with her average height like her's, it was hopeless. She gave up trying and dared to look the girl in the eye, which took some nerve. She suddenly felt her nose twitch, and she looked around. She made direct eye contact with a monster. Not a scary, horror-movie type monster, one that took the form a cuddly, almost cute animal. A cat.
Shoving down her absolute loathing, she gulped and spoke to the girl in front of her. "I-I'm Paisley." she looked around at all the desks, goggling at the variety of things that were laid out. How could one person own this much, she thought. There were tubes, spray, bottles, brushes, clips, and ties of all sorts, and she didn't know what half of them did. After all, she was only 11, and didn't feel the need to add any sort of special products to her look. A hairbrush and toothbrush suited her just fine.
Her eyes skimmed over most of the bottles and tubes, but they rested on the hair dye desk for quite awhile. Paisley walked over to it, feeling as if the eyes of all of Hogwarts were on her. She stood in front of it for a few moments. Her heart was pounding into her ribcage, and she barely heard herself as she spoke. "You have a lot of colors here." she observed, careful not to let her voice shake at all.
She was circling the question, but she hesitated to pounce on it. Not yet. It was too early. She needed to wrap her mind around what she was about to do, and take a look at all the colors. For a few moments she stood in front of the desk, staring blankly, hoping she wasn't overreacting about nothing.
She had to hurry up, and she knew it, because she had heard some other Gryffindor girls talking about getting ready together and she didn't want to miss it. Finally she saw a color she liked a lot. No, she loved it with all her heart. It was seeming to call her name as she reached for it. "Paisley....Pick the light blue...we're shimmery and glittery and match your dress perfectly...Forget Mom and Dad, this is for youuuuu....." Paisley wanted to say yes to the color's tantalizing calls. She picked the bottle up in her hands, turning it over in her hand. "Do-do you mind if I use this?" her voice came out strangely high-pitched as she asked the girl. Her eyes then came to gaze at the sign, and then she set it down. "I don't know a thing about dying hair, but this would match my dress beautifully." she said, gazing at the bottle.

Elisabeth was nervous. Well, maybe not terribly nervous, but slightly. Sólo un poquititititititito (Just a liiiiiiiittle bit) nervous.
The reason for her nervousness was logically acceptable, but at the same time trivial: the eleven-year-old could not decide whether to keep her hair straight or make it slightly wavy for the dance which would take place in just a matter of hours. Less than twelve hours, in fact. The Asian-Hispanic girl wanted very much to look her best, particularly considering that this would be her very first school dance and that she would go on a double date. But the problems were: she did not know whether she would look better in straight or wavy hair, and she was not sure how to curl the hair by herself!
She would need someone to help her with.
And then, what luck, the dark-haired girl happened to stumble upon a flyer:

Elisabeth then decided to see if the nice student who had put up the advertisement could help her.
When she entered the classroom, there were only two girls inside. One of them, who looked just around Elisabeth's age, was showing a bottle to a red-headed student who looked more mature. She was asking the older girl something Elisabeth could not hear, so the Latinx-Asian girl decided to wait. It would be impolite to interrupt them, or (she decided) even to join them talking about something she did not know.
Holding the picture of the hairstyle she desired close to her chest, Elisabeth hoped that the redhead would soon talk to her and offered her help.

Katrina sat down at the hair dye table in hopes that people would arrive soon. A bit of time passed before the first person walked through the doors. Katrina smiled and waved, letting her have a good look around, Paisley, was it? Since she wasn't sure, Katrina decided not to say her name. Paisley gave the room a look over and shuddered when she saw Boomerang licking himself in one corner of the room. Katrina lightly pursed her lips, having not thought about cat-fears, a bigger thing than she thought it was.
"Boomerang," Katrina hissed, getting her orange familiars attention. She snapped her fingers, a training thing she was working on that meant 'stay there'. Training a cat was hard work, but it was starting to work. "Stay there," Hopefully he would get the hint and Paisley would be assured that he would stay there.
She introduced herself as Paisley and Katrina inwardly smiled at the fact that the name was actually correct. "Hey, I'm Katrina," Katrina surveyed the table of dyes and supplies and laughed at Paisleys comment at having a lot of dyes. "Yes, I certainly do,"
Katrina smiled at the blue dye she picked up, it was pretty and light. That color looked like one of the temporary dyes-- a few day washout if she remembered correctly. "Yeah, you can use it, I can help you if you'd like,"
"So for that one, all you have to do is put the dye in your hair and let it sit for half an hour. That one is a washout so after three or four showers it will be gone. If you want a more permanent one, this one is a little darker color," Katrina lifted up the permanent one. "So what do you say?"
Katrina turned when she heard the door swing open again. This time it was another girl, she was holding a picture that Katrina glimpsed as a girl with curled hair on it. "I'll be right back," Katrina said to Paisley. She stood up and went to the newly entranced girl.
"Hey! I'm Katrina. Curled hair?" She assumed. "As soon as I get Paisley going, I can help with anything you need," Katrina smiled and turned back to Paisley to get her started.

The auburn-haired girl, who introduced herself as Katrina, turned out to be the one offering help. She seemed very professional too, welcoming Elisabeth to make sure the younger student knew she was not ignored simply because she had arrived later than Paisley and that Katrina was helping her first. The third-year girl also correctly guessed that Elisabeth wanted her hair curled.
"Ah, sí - I mean, yes. Curled hair," the Latinx-Asian girl stammered dumbly. She had wanted to ask if it would be possible for Katrina to style her hair like that, but from her response, Elisabeth decided not to do that since it seemed that the answer was yes. Besides, now Katrina was busy with helping Paisley and Elisabeth did not want to hinder her from working.
The sooner she starts helping that girl, Elisabeth said inside her head, the sooner she can help me too.
"Oh, sure, go ahead," said the dark-haired girl with a thankful smile. "You go help her. I can wait, it's still some hours away from the dance." And then her eyes caught Boomerang. "Um... Katrina? Meanwhile... can I play with el gatito (the kitten) while waiting? Or having him on my lap?"

"Uhm, the longer the better, right? It's a really nice color." said Paisley uneasily, eyeing the permanent hair dye with suspicious. Such a strange word was permanent. Everlasting, unfaltering, forever. Would it truly be there forever, or was it merely a grain of salt in the vast ocean of time? Before she could say anything else, Katrina turned and was helping a different girl. Paisley got lost in a wild train of thought, her eyes glazing over for a short moment.
Well, I guess nothing is forever. It should be out by December, right? Oh gosh, I sure hope mom and dad don't notice, or see, or know. Or I could owl them. That would work. I'll send them an owl after doing it, that way I can't get into trouble and they won't tell me no, because it's done and it's permanent. They'll just have to live with it. Wouldn't that make me feel bad? Also, But what if they visit for some reason before I've sent the owl? What if they get mad because they thought I was hiding something from them, and they do something terrible to me? When have mom and dad ever done something terrible to me? Never, that's when. Oh no! What if-OH MY GOSH. TOUCHING A CAT. I can't believe it. Paisley felt her head spin at the very thought as she heard the Hufflepuff's request.
It wasn't so much a fear of cats as it was a hatred and a loathing. She tried not to use such strong, everlasting words, but for cats it was a valid excuse. They were slimy, evil creatures who's only goal was to torment and torture peaceful being such as herself. Everything about them was mean, right down to their tail. Oh, they're tail! How was one to know if they were happy or upset? Tail movement means they're happy, but sometimes cats are angry when they're doing it. How is one to know the difference?

Pre-Ball Prep!
Oh boy. The Autumn Ball was happening soon and Melissa had no idea what she was going to wear and all. Everything just went by so fast that she didn't have time to think about it. While she was walking in the halls, she noticed a small flyer. It was about prepping for the ball. Maybe I should go... the ginger thought. When she got to the classroom, there were three girls. She recognized two of them, whom she had met a few weeks ago but the other girl was just a complete stranger. Waiting at the door, she saw that Paisley was getting ready to dye her hair a dark shade of red.
Oh that's cool, she thought. She wanted to dye her hair as well for the ball until a question came into her head. Father wouldn't let me would he though would he? Melissa knew he would disapprove...but what if he didn't? Snapping out of her thoughts, she noticed a ginger cat in the corner. It was the same cat Kato had run away with almost a month ago. It seemed like a long time ago even though it wasn't that long at all. Time passes real quick, doesn't it? she wondered.@Katrina Walker @Paisley Brown @Elisabeth Erner

Amara Lada Sage Dragamior, an elegant name for an elegant girl. The day, October 16th, 2020. The task, get ready for the Masked Ball taking place that evening. With all four of the main wizarding schools attending, Hanzo, Amara’s ex-boyfriend, and first love is bound to be there. As is Lucas, Amara’s slightly younger cousin from Beauxbatons, another wizarding school. Combining the four wizarding schools is a smart idea, more man-power for when the Hags attack or the children get set on fire or when the Mosps want their revenge.
Gathering all she needs, from hairbrushes to cakes of makeup, Amara begins the trek up to an unused classroom where a getting event will be taking place. As the young Dragamior walks out of the majestically green Slytherin Common Room, she hears the shouts for help and screams of glee as her fellow students get ready. Every dance, it seems, the children forget the horrors of the last one. They forget the screams of happiness quickly get replaced by ones of pure, unadulterated horror.
Visions of Anastasia on fire while Amara went a wee bit mad flash through the blonde’s head as she reaches for the railing to steady herself. Six months. Six months of prying these memories out of her head, her conciseness for them to come back at the worst moment possible. Hiccups start to violently come out of Amara’s mouth, over and over, her ribs making music against each other and the wooden railing, her throat, raw as newly shot game.
The angle on the blonde’s shoulder begins its work, come on Amara, bite your tongue, pinch yourself, find that packet of sugar you carry with you and let it dissolve on your tongue, end this madness, end this pain.
Deep breaths, the sugar drips down your throat, your mind calms itself, the castle stops spinning. With one more breath, she stands, straightens her back, raises her chin, smooths her hair, and morphs into a different girl. The girl she is supposed to be.
One step at a time, Amara continues her way up towards the classroom. One step at a time, Amara brushes the fear and panic off like a piece of lint on her shoulder. The school, made in the middle ages, still has a light feel to it. It may be of a darker color than Amara’s home in Omsk, the Snow Court, but the energy thrumming through the halls is as light as the Dragamior’s are wealthy.
Passing portraits and side-stepping into the classroom, Amara sends a fake smile towards Katrina. She would not be here if she knew that the cold-blooded redhead, the girl who had attacked Anastasia, put this event together. Taking out her own supplies, Amara begins on her hair. With some sea-salt spray and a bit of a lightening tonic, the blonde’s hair takes on an elegant texture.
As she begins her makeup, Amara notices other people have started to file into the room. Amara applies her blush with a light hand and checks herself in the mirror, perfect. With one final brush mascara, Amara blinks her eyes a few times, making sure nothing gets stuck in them and looks around the room to see who may need some help.

Charles definitely was consider odd among most and not just because he preferred to flirt with girl or insult other which was something he did because of his self esteem and worry of being ignored, something that happens all the time at his house. However his oddness today which was the day of the ball wasn't about either of those while the ball was still a couple hours away and instead of just droning a suit like most males, Charles chose to change up his hair as well especially after seeing a flyer to help with hair dye.
Charles had short blonde curly hair like most of his family also had curly hair except hardly anyone had blonde hair, at least the males in his family. He was the only one with blonde while the rest had black, something he always envy since with just a touch of hair gel they all looked perfect while Charles had to go through hair dye or spells when he was younger and would go to pureblood events with his family.
So Charles thought what better way then to show up at this ball with black gel back hair as after a some time he finally found the room, Charles entered and thought it was a classroom. Charles kept his black straight as he wasn't wearing his ball attire yet, but instead had on some jeans, a black shirt, and black leather jacket as he approach on girl, @Amara Dragamior, and spoke to her " miss pleasure to make your acquaintance, " before approaching another, @Katrina Walker, and speaking to her " miss a pleasure, would you be so kind to tell me where this hair dye is?"

Time to Ball: 3 hours and 45 minutes
Katrina got the girl’s [Paisley] hair started. The permanent hair dye was a bold choice. However, dye was easy to color over to get back to the root color. Katrina supposed it was less of a deal to her since she dyed her own hair all the time. Katrina got the primer started and mixed everything up. “Here put this on around your hair line so the dye doesn’t stain your skin,” Katrina handed a small thing of Vaseline.
Katrina turned to the other girl [Elisabeth] “Sure, feel free to play with Boomerang—er, the cat,” Katrina smiled, “Just be sure to keep him over there, don’t want him making a mess,” Katrina smiled, again considering how she was going to get the curling done. Perhaps she could just twist the hair and heat it with something, that wasn’t too hard, was it?
Katrina turned again to see another person come in. It was Melissa, the girl who found Boomerang that one time. She didn’t seem to be looking for anything so Katrina just said, “Welcome in,” and went back to applying the dye to the girl’s hair [Paisley again].
Turning back to hair dye girl, Katrina stepped back, “Alright, so I got the dye in. You can just sit here for about a little less than half an hour. The longer you keep it in, the brighter it will get. To take care of the hair, just wash it every other day or so with a gentle shampoo. After a while, if your hair grows fast you will see it back to the normal color at the roots. If you ever want it back to the normal, I can give you a stripping shampoo that will take the color out, but it will also make your hair a little more brittle. Anyway, holler if you need me, I am going to get someone else started,”
Katrina turned again to see Interruption [Amara, lol] step in. Are you bloody kidding me? Her eyes darkened and she turned to ignore her. There were plenty of people here, she could deal with ignoring one person, right? The worst part was, Katrina wanted to have her makeup done. The worst part was, she didn’t know how, and so far Interruption was the only one who seemed to know how.
Katrina shook herself as another person [Charles] came in. He approached Amara first and Katrina pretended to be busy walking over to the girl with Boomerang [Elisabeth]. “The hair dye is on that table,” Katrina pointed, “May I ask if you know how to use it? If not, I could help,” Katrina offered her services and if he said no then she would say, “Just a minute, feel free to choose a color,” if he said yes then she would simply nod and ask for him not to use too much.
Katrina would approach the girl [Elisabeth]. “Alright, so Hogwarts doesn’t have curlers, but I can just warm this,” Katrina held up the rod from before, “And heat it with the candle and try to twist hair around that?” If the girl agreed, Katrina would start warming the rod and start with the hair, constantly glancing to the picture.
