Good Bye
Aylesbury, Ireland
June 12, 10:15 pm
*THUNK!*
Something had crashed into her bedroom window. It has roused Erin from her sleep. She groaned as she rolled over in bed, her face down in her pillow.
Tap-Tap
There was an insistence in the noise.
Tap-Tap
And it was relentless.
She would roll out of bed, the noise refused to allow her to return to sleep. It was likely a branch trapped between the massive oak tree near her bedroom and her leaded window. She muttered to herself as she opened the window and an owl hopped inside. She had never seen an owl up close before but she could sometimes hear them call out from the trees.
She expected owls to be smaller, something that you could hold in the palm of your hand. That was not true in this case, the owl was sizable and in its own way intimidating. It would turn its head almost a half rotation, it was unsettling.
Owls were messengers in the wizarding world, something she well knew but she was never before the recipient of any sort of letter. It had to be some sort of mistake she reasoned as she ran from her room, rushed down the hall and to the stairs to her father's study. The owl in pursuit, something she had noticed at some point during her descent down the stairwell. She would pick up the pace and scurry into the safety of the study, instinctively slamming the door behind her.
"D-dad..." she huffed. "T-the o-owl," she pointed at the door breathlessly. "It's following me!" She shrieked.
Her father laughed and shook his head. "It is here already is it?" His voice was pleasant, but it was always pleasant and calm, filled with myrrh. In terms of behavior she took after her mother. She was loud, quick to act and at times overly dramatic. He would open the door and the owl would simply hop in. Its wings would shrug, making the avian creature appear larger. Erin would take a step back and her father would chuckle lightly as he took the letter and ticket from the messenger owl. "Indeed," he smiled as he relinquished the letter. "You have been accepted to your mother and my first choice," he commented pleased as Erin took the letter and read the contents.

She had heard of Hogwarts, her mother mentioned it often and her father on rare occasion. There was a sense of both excitement and confusion. Her father handed her a ticket for the Hogwarts Express, Platform 9 3/4. "It looks like we only have a few weeks before you start. Your mother will take you shopping in the morning," that was all he was going to share about Hogwarts. Of course she already knew the basics, it was like a boarding school for youths that wanted to one day become wizards. Her parents did not invest in a tutor, despite the fact that they could of afforded it. They never explained why.We are pleased to inform you that that you have been accepted at Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry. Please find enclosed a list of all necessary books and equiptment.
Term begins September 1. We await your owl by no later than July 31.
