@Marla QuinlanThea knew the woods better than anyone she knew.
Her mother and father spent most of their time at their jobs or in the actual cottage. Her sister had dance practice or a recital almost everyday. None of them really had much time to wander around the forest, not one of them but Thea liked to walk around it without a purpose trying to chase a bird she saw or a flash of white fur she assumed to be a hare.
Sometimes Thea felt special about where she lived. Well, it wasn't exactly in the forest. It had an even-ish road that sort of lead to their cottage, and it's not like they didn't have a garage and modern car. Really, except the trees sorrounding them from pretty much every direction their living situation was quite ordinary.
But even that little part about being able to just run around freely made the new-found wizard feel special. Like, a forest fairy, or an elf, with heightened senses, that ran around singing along with the birds and having races with deers and rabbits, who in her free time would spend the day making flower crowns and healing wounded forest animals.
In reality, she wasn't that at all. She was a regular witch. But she had that bit of faith that truly made her feel like a magical creature.
You'd think that after being forced to put away her phone and headphones would make Thea want to come back even more and listen to all of the things she must have missed out on, read all of the artistry tips, and spend at least an hour playing games with the online friends she's had. But really, even the grounds in Hogwarts didn't have the same magical feel that the woods had, even if those were filled with actually magic.
And as she walked the same trails she had always walked, she just felt even more at home. There was almost complete silence except the typical sounds you'd hear like birds chirping or maybe a branch cracking, leaves shuffling - a small jingle from the bracelet Thea wore. Moved by the slight wind, the charms would make an almost bell like sound.
She had been walking for a while, and she was fairly calm until she had heard another pair of footsteps walking on the small forest path she usually followed.
Thea quickly ducked behind the tree and observed until she saw a tiny girl with red hair... Walking around barefoot... In long, flowy clothes... Thea's mouth went agape and her eyes widened.
To her, it was clear that she was observing a fairy, or an elf.

[quote]Immersing herself in the woods wasn't something she was able to do often, if ever. Even with switching residency every month from Scotland to England, they were both in bustling towns where she couldn't get a break. Not to mention, it was a pain in the ass to attempt to sneak out. With a strict family that hated you? Not a chance. But being away from them for roughly a year now was a dream that came to life. Now she could go to the woods whenever she wanted, say whatever she wanted, do whatever she wanted.
...Buuut she couldn't wear whatever she wanted. Not quite. With the impulsive thought to sneak into Koko Riddle's suitcase, use floo to make her way to England, and break into Lamik's house, she had forgotten all about packing clothes. So, as much as she hated to say it (and wear it), she was stuck with Lamik's mother's clothes for the time being. Though having to wear a grossly oversized white blouse, she really couldn't complain. It was a stretch that they even allowed her to stay there instead of... Well, the camp, her family's place, and if it meant having to wear dresses, so be it.
Digging her bare feet into the slightly wet grass, Marla felt practically everything but out of place. The warm sun piercing through the shield of the trees, making its way upon her pale skin. Weaving her way through tall etchings of woods, hopping over logs, and tracing her fingers over mysterious bunches of green, she truly wished that she could stay here forever. At home, and even at Hogwarts, she never experienced nature quite like this. A smile made its way on her face, sunshine and excitement dancing in her golden eyes.
She sat upon a medium-sized rock, slouching as she ripped a few pieces of grass from the ground. Fidgeting with them, she peeled the grass in half and laid it upon the ground, pulling her knees to her chest. It was almost completely silent, except for the distant echo of bird calls and trees rustling in the occasional breeze. She let out a small hum, for no particular reason. Why not? It was quiet, she was putting sounds out to the world. If the birds could, why couldn't she? Another breeze made its way through the trees, causing goosebumps on the Gryffindors skin. A different, unfamiliar sound could be heard. She narrowed her eyes, that wasn't something you heard in the woods often.
Whipping her head around, another girl could be seen, mouth agape with wide, stormy eyes. She turned the rest of her body in the direction of the pale figure, extending her legs and stretching them, tilting her head to the side without a word. The girl looked almost otherworldly in the setting, a beautiful person in the middle of the forest? In a way, she kind of reminded Marla of an elf. Elves weren't real in the wizarding world though, right? Maybe she was a house-elf? Too tall. Too pretty. A goblin! Or a part goblin. She leaned to the side in an attempt to check out her ears, see if they were pointy like an elf or goblin normally has.
Narrowing her eyes in an observant manner, she scrunched up her freckled nose, giving the fellow redhead a slight wave. It couldn't hurt to possibly make a friend from this encounter... No?

Quite frankly the longest post I've written.Thea heard another faint bell like sound coming from her bracelet and instinctively held the charm closer it her. She didn't exactly want to be seen by the elf girl. Maybe they had rules she was breaking, or she would be deemed as purposefully disrupting the forest, or... Something else.
Either way, the girl was now looking back at her. Sitting on a small stone and picking grass, she looked more beautiful than Thea expected. With a long, flowy blouse and without any shoes, as well as her almost unnaturally small height, anyone could and probably would come to the same conclusion as the Hufflepuff did - this girl had to be an elf.
She looked majestic, royal almost. A slender figure that only lacked in said height, astonishing facial features, and fiery red hair that reminded Thea of her own. The way that the sun was shining on her pale skin didn't help the illusion of a forest fairy princess or something of the like. Thea wasn't exactly thinking, she was more so standing there behind a tree with her mouth wide opened.
Although she closed it and narrowed her eyes as soon as the elf girl gave her a slight wave. She was still shocked, quite frankly. But now she knew that the other girl wasn't here to condemn her for something she did unintentionally.
As Thea debated whether or not to wave back, or curtsy, or walk up to her and bow down, another stream do thoughts flooded her mind. What could be the girl's name? Did elves even have names? And if yes, were they anything like the books she's read? Why was she here if Thea has never seen here before? Quite clearly, Thea knew these woods better than literally any of her relatives and that elf girl was certainly something new.
She narrowed her eyes further, and sat down on a stump, now clearly showing herself to the elf girl and just stared at her. She was truly something that Thea has never seen before, in books, in stories, even in the books that her new school offered about magical creatures and races. But than again, these books didn't give a guide on what to do if a royalty looking elf fairy girl suddenly appeared and waved to you.
Thea sighed lightly and gave the girl a very awkward a e shy wave back, trying to sit up straight and properly, still believing she had an encounter with elf royalty. She bit her lip slightly, not knowing what else to do than observe the incredible creature she had in front of her. Maybe she was seeing her only now, because she finally discovered that she was a witch? Yeah, yeah that made sense.
The girl took her sight away from the elf girl and focused more on the surrounding area. She could tell that they were deeper in the woods than Thea thought she'd end up in, but she still knew how to get back home so she wasn't panicking. The wind made her charms give out another jingle and she automatically looked at them. In passing she saw a flare of brown fur, and assumed it was a wild hare.
In short, everything except elf royalty turning up close to her home was normal, as it was. Birds were humming, you could hear the slight murmur of the leaves as any wind had passed, and sometimes a pair of eyes, or a squirrels furry tail would flash right in front of you, or maybe a butterfly would fly past in front of you, but seeing a tiny person that looked pretty much exactly like an elf was something truly extraordinary.
Thea sighed again, this time much louder, and looked back at the elf girl. If eleves were normally supposed to look royal, or beautiful, than this girl had to be extraordinary. Again, Thea's mind was flooded with questions about elves and how their societies functioned. Was it anything like the books? She assumed it was like the books. Groups of majestic, astonishing creatures, found in the forests. This wouldn't be as much of a surprise as finding out she was a witch. Thea sighed again at the mildly sad and depressing thought that this was now her reality. Wild encounters with creatures she didn't even have hopes to exist.
Elves weren't what she'd expected to see as she came back home, as she came back here, to see how everything was going when she was absent from here. She expected a warm welcome from her family. She expected too many new songs by her favorite artists to come out and her listening back to them all night to make sure that she at least was familiar with them. She expected the forest to not change that much, at least not have an entire new society of mythical creatures inhabit it when she came back.
The Hufflepuff sighed and gave the fairy girl another wave. It would be worth to at least not have the elf hate the witch.

While the goblin in front of her was surely nothing short of stunning– appearance was not everything. Really, the only question she had was whether she could get privacy anywhere! Hogwarts was great, it really was, but it was smothering. Every corner she turned, every step she took, another student's presence could be felt, more eyes piercing through her back. She hadn't felt sheer isolation in forever... And the few moments that she did were now down the drain.
It wasn't like she was going to yell at the girl to leave, especially after the just reciprocated the wave that she was just given. She tucked a messy bunch of hair behind her ear and leaned forward to see the fellow redhead more clearly. Could she really be a stray goblin? There had to be some reason why in the world she was in the middle of the woods. Did she possibly run away from her goblin family for some reason? Why? There were about a million questions that she wanted to ask, but she bit her tongue. There was no reason to shower her with questions, especially because seconds ago where she was irritated with simply her presence.
Bored with the simplicity of a staring contest, Marla stood up, taking big, but steady steps closer to the girl. The redhead's features were more clear, and it was almost as if Marla was standing in a very...Stretched out mirror. She widened her eyes assuringly, as to confirm that she wasn't approaching her to murder her right then and there. God, even if she wanted to, Marla was the most gangly person on the earth. There was no way in hell she could even put a bruise on her.
Once in range, she went on her tippy toes, so close to the accompanying person that their noses brushed against each other briefly. An innocent face turned into a once again scrunched up mess of confusion. In most situations, she'd probably say in the most obnoxiously projectile voice 'Ahnd whea d'you cohm from lad?' just to annoy her. But then again, with the birds singing, and the trees delicately swinging in the light breeze, there was no way that she was going to intentionally interrupt this conversation. So...What should she do, now that she was up close? Marla furrowed her brows and mouthed a small 'hi'. If being around the goblin was inevitable, she would just have to make the most of it.

I am SO SORRY it took so long to get this post out (and the length) I've been in a bit of a writing funk recently.

The breeze that could be felt in the forest had suddenly disappeared, leaving the elf and Thea in what felt like complete silence. Despite the birds still making quiet noises and some hare or other wild animal making some noises sparingly too, Thea's mind was not registering the sounds as she stared in awe at the mystical girl in front of her. She took a more proper stance and narrowed her eyes to look at the elf, fairy, or whoever it was, closer.
The sun shining down on her pale face gave her an overall glow, making her appear even more like an elf - not that it needed to with Thea being convinced, as she watched the girl tuck a strand of her hair behind her ear and lean forward, looking back at the young witch. There was a million questions running through Thea's mind, more than she was used to. She didn't say anything, as usual. She couldn't quite comprehend why this elf, this magical creature, would take an interest in her. Well, she was a witch, but either way, she'd always think of elves as these such royal and proud creatures, ones that didn't want to get involved with people, or anyone else, really.
The elf suddenly stood up and took a couple of big steps towards Thea, who, as if she was petrified, just stood there, only leaning back slightly as the girl got so close that their noses were almost touching, and the Hufflepuff could pretty much feel her breath on her face. The fairy changed her expression again, going from what Thea took as mild curiosity, to... anger? confusion? Whatever it was, the witch took a step back to face the girl.
The wind has reappeared, and the witch once again was back to reality, with the slight noises the trees were making, and the chirping of the birds, accompanied by some hare hopping or deer running through the woods. The elf furrowed her eyes and mouthed something to the girl as Thea blinked in confusion, not quite able to understand, so instead of another mouthed response, she just waved slightly, her eyes widening as she took another step back to distance herself.
