Moving Solo Finished

Amanda looked out the window of their rental car. She and her family were driving to see their new home that they had just bought in Faversham, England. The Sparrow family currently lived in Los Angeles, California, way overseas in the United States. The family had been considering moving to England for a while now, since Amanda was attending Hogwarts. Amanda’s older sister and twin brother, Leslie and Johnny, were currently attending Ilvermorny over in America, but they would transfer to Hogwarts once they moved. Leslie was going into her 6th year, quite a ways ahead of Amanda and Johnny, who were both going to be second years. And then there was Daniel. Daniel was only 6 years old, barely starting Muggle school. Amanda’s parents, James and Alice Sparrow, believed in sending their children to Muggle school before they got their letters. The Sparrow family had lived among Muggles for some time, preferring to seem ordinary and live as normal lives as possible.
The Sparrows all looked different from each other, with the exception of the twins. Mr. Sparrow had jet black hair that was always slicked back, with grey eyes that twinkled when he laughed, which was often. Mrs. Sparrow, on the other hand, had blonde hair that almost reached her waist and warm brown eyes. Leslie recently got a pixie cut and dyed her hair blue for some reason that was beyond Amanda. Leslie’s hair was naturally a mousy brown, like her mother’s and her eyes were hazel with gold flecks. Amanda and Johnny looked similar, since they were twins. They both had dark brown hair that would lighten in color in the sunlight, Johnny’s cut short and Amanda’s shoulder-length. The only difference was that Amanda had chocolate brown eyes and Johnny’s eyes were green. Daniel had silky blonde hair and grey eyes.
Amanda was pulled out of her thoughts as they pulled up to the house. “What do you think, guys?” her dad’s voice boomed over the car engine. “This is going to be your new home soon!” Leslie rolled her eyes and muttered something unintelligible. She was acting pouty about moving since she didn’t want to leave behind all of her friends. Always the drama queen, Amanda thought. Mrs. Sparrow turned around in the front seat. “Leslie, honey, I know you don’t want to move, but it’s very nice here in England. I’m sure you’ll enjoy it. Besides, this is where your father and I grew up.” Leslie said nothing. Mr. Sparrow turned off the car. “Let’s step outside for a bit. We can’t go inside because I don’t have the key to the house since we’re still in the transaction of buying it, but we can just walk around the yard.” Daniel pushed open the car door and ran over to the grass. “Look, Mandee!” he shouted gleefully at Amanda. “There’s lots of room for Sherlock to run around!” Amanda smiled. Sherlock was their golden retriever that Daniel loved more than anything else. “I see that, buddy!” she responded while stepping out of the car. The house was two stories, with a large grassy lawn in all around it. There was a brick patio in front and a small shed in back. Amanda grinned. I just might like it here, she thought to herself. All of her new friends were from around here, anyways. The Sparrow family stayed at the house a little while longer, admiring their new home from the outside. Even Leslie was beginning to crack a smile. After they were done, the family piled into the car and drove off, feeling optimistic about the new opportunities that lay ahead for them.

Moving Solo Finished

It was finally moving day. Amanda was thrilled to get out of that little flat that they had been renting for around a month. A couch was only comfortable for so long and Amanda was ready to sleep in a real bed. All of the Sparrow family’s furniture and belongings were already waiting for them at the house. Each family member had with them a suitcase with their clothes placed neatly inside. Well, Amanda wasn’t so sure that Johnny’s was neat. Her twin brother was the messier, crazier version of Amanda. Johnny was always wreaking havoc wherever he went, pulling pranks anybody he can, even his teachers.

The car pulled to a stop in front of the family’s new house. “We’re here,” James Sparrow said as he turned off the ignition. “Everybody get your stuff and head on inside.” Amanda obeyed her father and grabbed her suitcase out of the trunk. She walked up to the front door. She tried to turn the knob but it was locked. Her younger brother Daniel ran up behind her, waving the key. “I’ve got it!” he exclaimed. “Let me do it!” Daniel unlocked the front door and ran inside, giggling with joy. Amanda grinned at her brother’s enthusiasm. Seven-year-olds sure do have a ton of energy, she thought as she walked upstairs. All of the furniture that they had brought from Los Angeles was in its place, courtesy of James Sparrow and the moving men. Amanda poked her head into all of the bedrooms, deciding on which one to claim as her own. She finally decided on one of the medium-sized rooms, saving the largest double bedroom for Johnny and Daniel to share. Amanda had no sooner set down her suitcase and sat down on her bed, when her older half-sister Leslie walked over and stood in the doorway. “Mom says to come in the garage and get your boxes.” Amanda nodded and followed Leslie downstairs.

Amanda and Leslie didn’t share the same biological mother, but Alice Sparrow had been Leslie’s step-mother ever since Leslie was two, so Leslie referred to Alice as “Mom” and her real mother, Teresa, as just “Teresa.” Amanda wasn’t particularly fond of Teresa, and neither was Leslie, really. Teresa was an alcoholic who spent most of her time receiving DUI’s and shoplifting. Teresa was currently in jail, and that was just fine with Amanda. For some odd reason, though, Leslie wanted to visit Teresa in jail. Maybe she’s just trying to be a rebellious teen, Amanda thought as she rolled her eyes at her sister’s back.

They entered the garage to be greeted by a rather frustrated-looking Alice Sparrow. “Oh good, you two are here. At least most of the kids are trying to help.” Alice sighed. “Leslie, go find your brother please. God knows what he’s up to now.” She brushed her hair out of her face. ”Come here, Amanda, and help Daniel and I sort out all of these boxes.” Just then, Leslie came back, dragging Johnny by the arm. “He was on the roof.” Alice gave her son the evil eye as he joined them. Amanda raised her eyebrows at her twin. “Did you actually go up on the roof?” she whispered. Johnny nodded, smirking. “It’s fricking awesome up there. I’ll show you later.” The five of them finished sorting through the boxes and went their separate ways to unpack. Amanda clumped up and down the stairs, bring up her boxes and placing them in her room one by one. It was tedious work, but it had to be done.

Later that evening, Amanda pulled herself up onto the roof and let out a deep breath. Her and Johnny had exited the house through Johnny’s window and used the trellis on the side of the house to climb the rest of the way up. It had been quite the thrilling journey, and Amanda had been nervous that she would fall but they made it. She sat down next to Johnny and lied on her back. Everyone had finished settling in and it was beginning to feel like home. Amanda turned and looked at Johnny. “You were right. This is pretty awesome.” Johnny looked back at her and grinned. “See? I told you so.” And there they sat, until it got too dark to stay outside any longer. They scrambled back inside without getting caught and vowed to make the roof their special place, where they could hang out without any nagging parents or siblings.
