Students would have been out of Hogwarts for around a week now. Probably catching up with family or hanging out with friends. There's a breeze in the air as the sun stayed to set behind the clouds.

Evening was starting and the colors of the sunset was only helping to create a magical setting.

That night was the wedding between Luke Alluring and Pearl Moon.

That night was the start of another change for Henry Knight.

Henry was dressed in a suit matching his elder brother's; Arthur and five others as he stood near a the front on the left side of a large tree.

The young teen was a groomsmen along with his cousin Charles, uncle Aaron, soon to be step brother Franklin, and two of his fathers friends. Arthur was their fathers best man and earlier that day met with Pearl's maid of honor and twin sister; Coco Moon to plan something special for the bride and groom that night.

Upon arriving at the wedding ceremony area Arthur showed Henry the aisle which showed pictures and a few words describing the story of how Luke and Pearl met to their wedding day. That day. Today.

Henry only nodded. Afraid to say anything. Afraid that if he did then he would scream or run. Ruining the night for the others.

When everyone arrived, the guests took their seat. The groomsmen took their place on the left side, next to and a bit behind the groom while the bridesmaids stood across from them on the right waiting for the bride.

A violin started to play and Henry turned from his brother and father to the aisle where two twins came skipping down it, throwing flowers around them.

When they reached the end they received a round of applauds and coos from the mothers there as the two found their seats on the right side.

Next came a set of blonde hair and a rather energetic performance.

Gabe Moon stood at the end as he waved to everyone sitting down and exclaimed" Ladies, Gentlemen, and other inhabitant individuals your attention please," Henry couldn't help smile a little as Gabe's siblings either gave a eye roll or smile at his performance.

"Now is the time to stand! Stand everyone! The bride will be coming down the aisle now!" Gabe spoke as he walked down the aisle watching those around him stand as he spoke.

Coming to a halt next to his seat in the first row on the right side, Gabe turned on his heels to face everyone as he spoke" Stand everyone! Here comes the bride! Here comes the bride!" The soon to be second year then took a comical bow and would then say" thank you for your time! I hoped you enjoyed it! I'll be here all night!" Gabe then sat down and all eyes would be pulled to Pearl Moon walking down the aisle escorted by her mum.

Henry watched her walked past the guests and to his father who would smile and nod to each Pearl and her mother before whispering" you look beautiful, my treasure," perhaps a nickname to refer to Pearl's name being a shiny and precious stone in a oyster.

Henry watched the wizard preist take his spot and began his speech.

That was the first wedding that Henry witnessed and attended. If it wasn't the overwhelming fact that his life was changing in one night and the panic in his mind spiraling around then he would be quizzical about it and asking questions like the knowledge loving boy he was.

His young kid cousin; Leo Alluring came walking though the aisle a bit timidly holding a pillow in front of him with two rings on top. When he would reach the bride and groom, Leo would abundantly stick the pillow at toward them and Pearl took the ring for Luke.

Henry felt his anxiety and thoughts bearing down on him like a tornado within his mind but they quiet down for only a moment when he heard their vows.

"I, Pearl Jenna Bernthold Moon, take you, Luke Ivor Knox Alluring, to be my partner and best friend. I promise to love you unconditionally through all our adventures and everything to come. I will keep you as my one and only partner. I will be with you in sickness and in health, and care for you when you need it. Until death takes you away from me, I promise to do this together."

Pearl slipped the ring onto Luke's ring finger on his right hand. Pearl's vows sounded odd to the young teen. Henry would look up at her and then at his father when he noticed something. Actually a few things.

First his father wasn't wearing his old wedding ring and second he was smile and looked like he had tears in his eyes. He really was happy and did love Pearl.

Henry couldn't believe it. He hadn't stopped to think about his father and what he was going through and why he was doing this. Now he saw. It was because of love. He truly did love Pearl.

Luke would pick up the ring for Pearl from the pillow that Leo held and offered him a gentle smile and small nod before the boy ran to take his seat in the first row on the left side.

"I, Luke Ivor Knox Alluring take you Pearl Jenna Bernthold Moon as my partner and best friend. I promise to love you for the rest of our days and remain by your side for whatever sane or crazy adventure we go on. I promise to be by your side in health and sickness and not let anything come between us. I promise to carry and love your children like they are my own. I promise to love you till my dying day. I promise to create a family we both deserve with our children."

Luke slipped the ring onto Pearl's ring finger and smiled at her. Henry watched and a part of him was happy for his father, that he found peace again. That he found love again.

The wizard prest held his closed book underneath his arms and smiled wide as his deep voice filled the room.

"I do," Luke spoke smiling at Pearl and holding her hands.

The priest then asked Pearl the same questions. It seemed a bit odd or long to Henry and he felt questions form and spiral around his mind.

"I do," Pearl's voice echoed and Henry braced himself for the next part.

"Then with the power within me, I announce you two husband and wife. You may kiss the bride or groom," the wizard priest announced looking at both and loads of cheers broke out when Luke leaned in but Pearl kissed him.

A few looked teary eyed but only the audience shed tears as the newly wed couple and their children gather by the tree for a photo.

After that the event was moved to another field by the ocean for the reception or Henry thought of it as a party almost.

There was a open area with a live classic band for dancing and the view was the rushing waves of the oceans. The sun set and the moon lit up the sky still it didn't stop the happiness in the air.

Together Pearl and Luke cut the cake with their children around them. Then for a moment everyone went off on their own to enjoy the festivities and reception.

Pearl and Luke went around together to thank everyone for coming that day and also meet each other's family for the first or not so first time...

Frankie amd Gabe looked to be having a arguement on the food or cake as they were attempting to get a slice of cake or plate of food, it was hard to tell with those two since they were pretty focused on their arguement.

Arthur was with a unfamiliar young girl around his age and a few guys who were probably his friends or the kids of their fathers friends, the group was on the edge of dance area drinking from glasses and laughing among themselves.

Faith and Jess were meeting with relatives and catching up or possibly taken back from them when they rushed to them to talk to them and pinch their cheeks.

The newly wed couple and children shared a table at the front but apparently only two were at the table for the time being.

Henry Knight would move back to the table and set a plate of cake in front of him and his sister, no more future step sister, Rose Moon.

The young teen took a seat besides her and looked out at the others all dancing and laughing and chatting before back at the red head a she spoke softly, " some night tonight is."

Sensory overload is when you feel like your brain is going to explode with all the things that are happening around you. Sounds, movements, people touching you, even the smells around you are excruciating and you want to yell and scream for everything to stop. The excited chatter coming from the place where the wedding would be. The sharp smell of the perfume that Jess had decided to drench herself in. The photographers adjusting her dress or her hair when they walked by. Her bun was too tight, and even though she looked good (and, kinda felt like she looked good), and usually liked dressing up for fancy occasions, this felt... wrong. This felt forced.

It didn't help at all that Rose was tired. She hadn't gotten enough sleep last night, between the dread and the excitement of the wedding that day. All morning, they had been getting dressed, talking, and the anticipation had risen and risen and risen until the moment that was coming... coming very soon. Way too soon.

Her hands fidgeted behind her back, and she then forced herself to smooth out her dress and lock her hands together, trapping them there away from anything she could do to ruin the night. To make everything worse. To make everything horrible. She squeezed her eyes shut, but it was just then that she heard coos from the nearby ladies, hearty chuckles from the men. Everybody's voices softened to whispers, which was considerably less loud, and less annoying. Rose let her eyes open and she turned to see August and April walking down the aisle.

Oh, the flower twins. August didn't look very happy at all to be in a fancy suit, but April looked ecstatic, her curled hair bouncing with every little skip in her step. Rose smiled a little at her little cousins. They were precious. After them, Gabe stood up, after being nudged by Frankie.

"Ladies, Gentlemen, and other inhabitant individuals, your attention please!" he called, attracting the attention of the gathered individuals to him, something that he absolutely and apparently loved. He made dramatic gestures with his hands. "Now is the time to stand! Stand everyone! The bride will be coming down the aisle now! Stand everyone! Here comes the bride! Here comes the bride!" Once everybody had stood like they were commanded to, he waved his hand and bowed, finishing off by saying, "Thank you for your time! I hoped you enjoyed it! I'll be here all night!"

As Gabe went back to his seat with another dramatic flourish, Rose could hear Frankie hissing, "You had one job!"

"Yeah! I did it, didn't I?" Gabe murmured back.

Frankie huffed a little, indicating that the argument could be continued later.

They all turned to see Pearl.

She was beautiful. Rose knew, of course, what she looked like, since she had helped with the dress picking, and was there to see her mother's wedding day look revealed. Rose made a point to smile convincingly at her mother. Her acting skills would not fail her today. And, of course, her grandmother. Her mother's father wasn't alive anymore. But Rose's grandmother (whom she called Gramma) still was, and they walked arm in arm down the aisle.

Gramma's hand took Pearl's and gently placed it into Luke's, a symbolic representation of her approval about the wedding. She kissed Pearl's forehead, smiled at her lovingly, and then went to take her seat. At the priest's first words, the people in the crowd sat themselves down.

Rose's attention wasn't really on the wedding, as it started. Her attention had wandered, and now she was looking at the tree, the decorations, and ignoring the feeling of dread in her stomach. She glanced over to Henry. She thought about holding onto his arm, mostly for her own comfort, but she didn't want to overwhelm him. Strangely, the thought of Henry touching her wasn't a much of an exhausting thought as it was to think about anybody else touching her.

"I, Pearl Jenna Bernthold Moon, take you, Luke Ivor Knox Alluring, to be my partner and best friend."

Wait- no. This couldn't be happening. This wasn't happening.

"I promise to love you unconditionally through all our adventures and everything to come. I will keep you as my one and only partner."

Inside, Rose sobbed and cried and begged her mother to stop. To let it all go. She didn't want a stepfather. She didn't want- any- of- this-

"I will be with you in sickness and in health, and care for you when you need it."

On the outisde, Rose was just calmly looking towards her mother change her life forever.

"Until death takes you away from me..."

But Pearl did not listen to Rose's inward screaming. She looked at Luke with loving eyes and pushed on.

"...I promise to do this together."

And that was it. There was no going back for her mother. There was no more consideration, no more preparation, no more hesitation. Their lives were changed... forever.

Luke continued with his own vows, but Rose wasn't really listening.

Ah. So incredibly dreamy and romantic and UGH. Luke was her last chance for this to not happen, and he didn't screw everything up. He slipped the ring on Pearl's finger, the place where a different wedding band would have been, and that was that. They both said their "I do"s.

"Then with the power within me, I announce you two husband and wife. You may kiss."

It was official. It was done. Both of them came together to kiss, both jumping at the chance.

It was over.

The rest went through in a a blur- the pictures that she faked smiles in, the dinner that had been planned to perfection that she mostly just picked at, the cake cutting that she didn't have the appetite to eat anyway, meeting family members and distant relatives and stuff, blah blah blah.

Wedding stuff. Usually Rose would be excited, if it wasn't for the nature of the wedding stuff, and the nervousness inside her about the whole thing. She hoped that everybody would just brush of her quietness as her being introverted or tired, both of which were true. But there was a little more truth that those reasons didn't quite encompass.

Now? Now Rose was just sitting in her seat at the table, trying to block out the loud music, and mostly just looking at her hands. She was, thankfully, in a spot where she could see everything. She cast her gaze around to make sure everything was alright with her siblings.

Faith and Jessica were keeping eyes on each other, while entertaining (or, in some cases, enduring) different groups of relatives, and Frankie and Gabe were keeping each other company, mostly staying out of the way and talking about their own stuff (They had been determined to not ruin their mother's special day, and, just for today, were not arguing. They were debating). Arthur looked fine. She wasn't sure of her extent of protection over Arthur was, and if something happened, if she could do anything to help him, really.

That only left Henry. She scanned the crowd for him, spotting him as he came towards her. She smiled a little at him, and he put a piece of cake in front of her. "I- thanks." She was about to tell him she wasn't hungry, but she wasn't just going to lie to her future... well. I mean, her brother. She was hungry, she just felt like if she ate anything, one look at her mother and her future... I mean, her stepfather, would cause her to just heave it all up again. Maybe she would just take small bites if she were to end up eating anything.

Rose appreciated Henry, anyway. He was very thoughtful to come sit by her and make sure she was alright.

She rolled her eyes a little. "You can say that again. At least most of the people here are happy, right?" she said, only loud enough for Henry to hear. Her voice was soft and gentle. "How are you feeling?" she asked. "Well, I mean, for a guy whose parent just changed your life forever without consulting you or caring much about what you think."

Rose wasn't mad at her mom. She just really, really, didn't like her decisions, and especially didn't like how she wasn't asked if it was okay, or asked for a blessing, or anything of the sort or kind.

Henry only nodded slightly with a soft smile when he placed a plate of cake in front of Rose and a plate in front of himself. Taking a seat besides her, the young teen could believe that it happened. The night he was dreading. The night he was imagining. The night that would change everything. Has arrived.

Henry didn't know what to do or say. He felt lost. For words and emotions. His anxiety played within his mind but this time he wasn't bothered, this time there were more important matters to deal with. Such as his new expanded family. That became his stepmum and step siblings in a blink of a eye. In a instant he went from having a missing twin, elder brother, and father to having two parents, six siblings, and a missing twin.

Funny how fast change works.

Henry didn't touch the cake in front of him, he felt nauseous and his anxiety circled around his mind. The teen hid this from others, determined not to let his own emotions and problems ruin the night of others.

However he felt that if he ate something as sweet as the piece of cake sitting in front of him then he would vomit or worse.

Henry heard Rose's words and caught her roll of the eyes.

Happiness. Were the people there happy? What was happiness? How can someone truly know that they were happy? Isn't everyone just pretending? What is happiness and how can someone find it?

Henry looked out. Out at the scene. At the guests. At Pearl and Luke getting the guests. At Faith and Jess being overrun with family, squeezing their cheeks and asking questions. At Franklin and Gabe debating among themselves, thoughts went to Annabeth. She would be over there probably debating with them to if she was there. If she was.

Henry flickered his blue gaze to his elder brother. Arthur was sounded by a group of guys, all laughing and joking among themselves. Except what peaked Henry's interest was a young women, hugging onto his brothers arms. Did Arthur have a girlfriend? And not tell Henry?

Henry felt his mind over run with questions and thoughts that he couldn't focus on a single matter. Not tonight at least.

"More people than I expected are here," Henry replied softly to Rose looking around at the large amount of guests. The Bernthold's and Alluring's seemed to both have received invitations since they both were there. Friends and coworkers of the bride and groom were all there. The chaos and noise of it all was enough to drive Henry insane or at least close to it.

Henry heard Rose's words.

How are you feeling?

A emotion that couldn't be described with words.

Except Henry didn't want to ruin someone's night with his own problems so he smiled softly and replied" better than I thought, " not exactly a lie hit not the truth either as the young teen added, " how are you?" It was natural for Henry to he more considered over his friends and family then himself. To worry about them and their emotions more then to worry about his own. And Rose wasn't just a friend anymore, she was his sister.

Henry looked around, the night and noise was getting to him as he softly spoke "its hard to imagine that the night is here and were siblings now," it only took a moment for the teen to realize he spoke French instead of English. That happened occasionally when he was stressed, the teen spoke different languages preferably French or Arabic as a way to calm his nerves.

"Sorry but maybe I could teach you another language? I already teach you piano so," Henry spoke softly as he thought over the languages he knew and counted them off in his mind as he spoke"I can teach you French, Arabic, Italian, or Russian. I'm learning Spanish myself," then silence again. Henry wasn't sure if he could maintain conversation like this all night. Maybe be could malena excuse or leave? No one would notice if he left and he wouldn't ruin the night for anyone.

Henry looked over at Rose as he softly spoke" I guess I can call you sister or sis now instead of Rose, Rosie, or Artemis, " thinking about how many names he now can call Rose. It was unbelievable. And yet he couldn't think of a nickname for Scarlett Aden.

Silence. Henry stared at his cake. He felt his stomach turn and mind rattle with thoughts. The young teen felt almost like he was going to be sick. But he didn't show this. These emotions remained hidden.

It wasn't until the the groups of boys who Arthur was talking to approach them, Arthur and the girl hugging his arm hung in the back of the group.

Henry wasn't in the extract mood to socialize as one of the young adult spoke" would you explain to your brother that one drink won't hurt or ruin his chances to become a auror," of course this is what they were discussing and Henry looked toward Rose then Arthur as another boy with spike black hair spoke" do you two want one? The wine is alright but the fire whiskey is amazing," were adults offering kids alcohol? Granted it they were 19, 20, and 21 year old's but still.

Henry didn't have to speak since Arthur jumped in and spoke" there twelve and thirteen Jack, your not giving then alcohol," the boy named Jack rolled his eyes a little and took a slip of his glass before replying" then you take a glass, have some fun with us." Jack punched Arthur on the shoulder and the blonde hair boy who spoke first, spoke" come on Arthur, have a drink. You use to be so much fun, what happened."

Henry decided to stay silent as Arthur replied" I told you guys already, I have auror examinations tomorrow and have to stay alert." The group seemed annoyed and rolled there eyes, punching Arthur in the shoulder as they talked about getting more drinks and went off to get some. Leaving only Arthur and the women at the table where Rose and Henry sat.

"I'll catch up with you," Arthur told the women and she left, walking toward the group. Arthur pulled up a seat and sat down besides Henry. Silence. Again.

Henry looked over at his brother but it was Arthur who spoke" how are you two doing," Henry only nodded but choose not say anything letting Rose say something if she wanted to.

Conversation wasn't something Henry could mange. At least not at that current moment. Maybe he would if Arthur said something that interest him, his brother continued" sorry about them, their some old friends from Hogwarts and some roommates," Henry looked over at them and smiled a little as he asked" is the one hugging on you, your girlfriend?"

Arthur would look over at his brother, ruffle his hair a bit with a smile as he spoke"Emily and I are-" Arthur was at a lost for words and Henry smiled at him causing Arthur to laugh a little as he spoke" none if your business, speaking of how's your girlfriend?" Alexa Mackenzie. The girl who made Henry's heart with but also flutter. Henry felt himself stutter as he spoke" s..shut it Art."

"Yeah," Rose whispered. Her mother sure was a party person, and Rose had expected nothing less of her than to invite all of these people. That didn't mean, though, that it wasn't slightly suffocating. The way that everybody was talking, laughing. The loudness of it all. "Did your dad's family end up coming? Do you see them?" she asked. As she scanned the crowd, she could see Drew, April, August, Maddison, and Addison. She could see their parents- her aunts and uncles. She could see her grandmother. Her Aunt Margerie. But there was also a lot of people here that Rose didn't recognize, and Rose wondered if Henry's father's dreaded family was, in fact, here.

Rose picked a little at the cake, taking a small bite and then leaving it alone. It was so sickly sweet. Her mother had not picked a very good cake. It had been pretty, yeah. But Rose didn't enjoy it.

"I'm fine," she said, as an automatic response. Her stomach twisted a little, and she voiced something that was pulling at her brain. "We're both lying, aren't we?" she said softly. Not that Henry wasn't as good as an actor as she was, but Rose just knew the both of them too well. They would rather the other person think they were okay than weigh them down. It was just them being anxious. Of course, they didn't think that they were being anxious. They just thought that they were being considerate and not obnoxious.

He said something in French that Rose didn't really understand. She understood maybe one word, but she could have just been hearing him wrong. "What?" Her multilingual friend- I mean, brother- had forgotten that she only knew one language- she was boring like that. Or maybe he hadn't even meant to speak French at all, which was odd because Rose didn't know that it could work that way. She knew little tidbits of German and Spanish, and the only French she really knew was "Bonjour," "Mademoiselle," and "Baguette." And she was pretty sure pizza in French was just pizza, so maybe she knew that word too.

Henry was really, really good at taking her mind off of things. He brought up knowing several languages. She didn't know if it had been on purpose or if he was doing it on accident, but he was successful, offering up a conversation for her to focus on rather than the anxious feeling in her stomach. "It's okay," she said in response to his apology. "That's a lot of languages. I would like that. Where did you learn all those?"

She smiled a little. "You know that siblings don't really call each other "sis" or "bro" most of the time," she said, a little playfully. She was being gentle, of course. "But you do you, of course."

It really was a weird thought to think, that they were now siblings.

That's when some boys came up to them with Arthur. Quickly putting on her mask of being fine, being okay, being happy, Rose watched as they approached. Rose still didn't know what to think about Arthur, but she definitely decided that his crowd wasn't the best. "Uh- no, thanks," she said, in response to a drink offer. Arthur shooed away his friends and asked the both of them how they were doing.

He was met with silence. Complete and utter, unnerving silence. After a couple beats of that, Rose decided she might as well answer if Henry wasn't going to. "Alright," she said, in response. It was considerably louder than when she had been talking to just Henry just now. It was as if she had to put actual effort into talking to others compared to Henry.

Arthur apologized for his friends. If they were just old friends and roommates, Rose wondered why they were invited to the wedding. Maybe it was because it was Arthur's dad and they wanted to be there for their friend? Rose appreciated his apology, but still didn't know why he even hung around them if they were such jerks, or, at least, seemed to be.

Rose couldn't really remember the last time she had seen Henry stutter. He was usually so smooth, his words so composed. He used to stutter, but not anymore. That's why Rose hated it when Arthur made him stutter. Internally, she was glaring daggers at the boy and squishing him with a sledgehammer bigger than she was.

On the outside, she was about to ask "Your girlfriend?" just in case she was missing something, but she didn't. If Henry wanted to tell her, he would. If he didn't want her to know, she wouldn't have to know. So, instead, she said, "If you're not gonna tell him about your business, he doesn't need to tell you about yours." She wasn't saying it meanly or curtly- she was saying it with a small smirk- it was just a little joke. Well, really, it was her loyalty and strong need to stand up for Henry disguised as a little joke. She was really, really good at it, too. Arthur wouldn't be able to pick it up, but Henry just might. She felt a little proud of herself for finding a clever way to defend Henry without being mean. Just a little.

She was trying to think of an inconspicuous way to escape the crowd without drawing a whole bunch of attention to herself. She thought about the hotel, which was really near here, and the nearest place with a bathroom, besides the porta potties. It would probably take her three minutes to get there if she walked fast, and she had seen a way up to the roof. The roof was flat, and the hotel was only maybe three stories tall. Maybe she could go look at the stars.

The redhead glanced to Henry. She knew he wasn't any more comfortable here than she was. Maybe she could take him with her. All that needed to happen was for Arthur to leave them, and then the both of them could escape.

Maybe it was a silly idea. Maybe she was just being annoying and pathetic. Either way, Rose just knew that it was a possibility.

"Anyway, how are you?" she asked Arthur, in response to his earlier question, making it sound like she actually cared.

Henry scanned the reception, there were a lot more there than what he expected. The young teen hardly could believe that it was happening, that the night has arrived. That his world would be changing, that his small family was changing.

Henry remembered how small and close his family once was, before the attack. When his birth mum was still alive. They were brief but if he tried hard then he could remember, he could remember when he laughed with his twin and had fun with his family.

That was another time. A happier time.

After the attack, things fell apart. The smaller, broken family lost their closeness. They didn't have as much fun as before, hardly any of then smiled or laughed. It was different.

Now this was another different

Annabeth was gone, missing. Somewhere with the Knights. Their father married, smiling and going back to being happy with a new wife and new family. That meant it only left Henry and Arthur as usual, Henry was alright with that. He believed that all he needed was his brother until he would hear his news.

"Uh yeah, a few of them were groomsmen and the ring bearer then there's others I think. I don't know them all since I only met a few last summer holiday once," Henry answered Rose's question as he looked out at the group, the teen saw his grandparents, uncle, and aunt who at the time his father was introducing his new wife to. Shortly after the blue eyes teen spotted a few cousins, a few he didn't know their names but a few he did. Leo, Andrew, and Charles... the blonde curly hair who he met a few times at Hogwarts during the Dumstrang visits and found Charles to be unpleasant and sort of a jerk. Henry was confused how his cousin could manage to have any friends..

"Is your mum's family here?" Henry asked Rose in return before staring at the cake that say in front of him, the young teen decided to try a bite or two deciding that it was one of the sweetest things he ever ate. Sweeter than sugar. Henry placed the fork on the plate and decided to look around instead, keep to his thoughts.

"What?" Henry asked as he was pulled from his thoughts and watching others to look say Rose, the teen was necessary lying. It was complicated. The way his emotions and thoughts composed themselves and circled around his mind couldn't be described in one or words but also at times he didn't seem to have the energy to explain so saying one thing or another seemed easier than admitting how he really was.

"I'm not lying, not technically- uh it's complicated to explain most days," Henry replied going back to his thoughts wanting a few moments of silence but Rose spoke again. First a word then a question about languages, usually he wasn't bothered to answer but that night-

That night was different

Each language Henry knew had a meaning, a personal meaning and one of those meanings conflicted with that night as he spoke" before Hogwarts, Anna and I had lessons where we learned Italian and Arabic since are father wanted us to be cultured, " the two non personal meanings done, Henry turned toward Rose offering her a smile as he continued" are father is part russian so naturally we had to learn the language and are mum was part french, so we each learned the language for her and still speak it with each other," Henry could feel the awkwardness growing and quickly added" and I'm learning Spanish now since its Cash native tongue."

Henry choose not to say much after, the teen stared out watching the others laugh and engage in conversation. It felt weird, watching others lives change right before but not feeling like yours have.

Henry thought about the days leading up to leaving Hogwarts, how he was determined to read and research his mum's family. He was still determined to do so and that night, it didn't sway him from that goal.

Silence

It was quiet in that corner until the groups of young adults joined them, it was getting a bit overwhelming and loud for Henry's liking but luckily his elder brother shooed them away along with bringing new questions to Henry. With answers that's the teen wanted.

The two brothers are closer than most siblings. They have a unique and special bond with each other one that lasts years and continues to grow even with the two separated during the school year.

Henry and Arthur have their own jokes and almost language between each other, they laugh and poke fun at certain things the other does but also is able to help and care for each other for other things.

So when they heard Rose's comment, the two were taken back by it and both looked at her oddly for a moment. Henry wasn't smiling or nodding at her, just looking showing no emotion for a moment.

After a moment, Arthur sat there and Henry moved his chair closer to his brother pushing his plate of cake in front of his brother a bit to allow him to try it.

Arthur tried a bite and decided to answer Rose's question before the two brothers went back to their own conversation, the young adult offered the red head a smile as he spoke" fine, this cake is a bit to sweet," and almost like a wave washed over them Henry changed. The young teen changed from the silent and anxious lad to someone which opened up a little bit only around his brother as he spoke" I know, almost like the cakes from that bakery in london that were bloody sweet," Arthur nodded toward Henry who was smiling a little.

The two brothers started a conversation between themselves as Henry spoke" so Emily? Emily..." Henry smiled toward Arthur who lightly ruffled his younger brother's hair as he spoke" Emily Auburn," it was then that the two seemed to know each other's words or thoughts without magic as Henry spoke" the gryffindor muggleborn you invited for Christmas holiday your sixth year?" Arthur nodded toward Henry who smiled and lightly nudged his brother in the shoulder who brushed back a fee strands if hair and nodded which made Henry smile a little wider.

"Yes, we have been dating for well over a year now," Arthur explain to Henry who crossed his arms over his chest and was smiling as he spoke" is she also planning to be a auror?" Henry was hoping not but if she was then it gave the teen another reason to not like her as Arthur spoke" no, she's working at quidditch shop in diagon alley as she works on her career as a healer," Henry nodded a little to his brothers words but then was taken back when he said" now your girlfriend, merlin?"

Henry looked over at Rose, the teen didn't mind telling his brother about her but he was worried about tell Rose. The young teen worried about Rose hearing or listening then judging him for his words, he was worried what she would do but would take a breath. Move closer to Arthur. The teen smiled softly then spoke" I wouldn't say girlfriend, neither of us use those words yet- uh girlfriend and boyfriend. But she has the most brightest and amazing red hair you'll ever seen, like a fire in a warm sun set and green eyes. Her green eyes are beautiful, too emeralds shining in the sun I haven't seen anything or anyone like them before. She's beautiful and intelligent, she's a duelist and an animal lover."

Arthur nudged his younger in the side as he spoke" and who is she?" Henry felt himself looking down and at his brother as he spoke"we have been sending each others letters for a while and before leaving Hogwarts we met and told each other we love each other then kissed- well we kissed a few times. Anyway her name is Alexa Mackenzie, she's a third year hufflepuff," Henry smiled softly a little as he thought of Alexa which is when Arthur smiled toward his brother and wrapped his arm around Henry, the young teen smiled at his brother the decided to include Rose as he spoke" any crushes or dating anyone, Rose?"

"...Yeah," she replied. "Pretty much all of them are here, but I don't mind that. I'm on good terms with all of them." Rose's eyes watched as her Gramma was approaching Margerie, her great aunt. Margerie flat-out ignored her and walked away, as if she hadn't seen Gramma approach at all. Margerie was not appreciative of the way that Rose's grandparents had treated her. Margerie, being a squib, was disowned, and Gramma and her husband had done nothing to change that. They overall let her have her own life with all its consequences in the UK. They hadn't supported her at all. Of course, Gramma had tried her best to apologize, but it hadn't worked. Margerie wqas still ignoring her and the rest of the Bernthold family, excluding Rose, her mom, and her siblings. Rose felt bad for Margerie, that she hadn't even had a family that looked after her growing up.

"And my cousin Drew, he's wearing the blue suit and talking to the boys," she said, guesturing his way. "The boys" meaning Rose's brothers. "We get along very well. He's been to the balls and the summer camps for the last couple of years, have you seen him around?" she asked.

"Not technically," she whispered in response, echoing his words. Neither of them were really fine, though. Neither of them were doing good or okay or wonderful in any sense or form. Rose shivered, crossing her arms. She was suddenly a lot colder.

A pang of guilt invaded her as she realized that her words had been uncalled for. It had just been her being obnoxious about not being okay, her trying to tell someone and probably just annoying him. She knew him well enough to know that they weren't okay, but that didn't mean she had to bring it up. What if he hadn't been lying? What if she was just being extremely rude when he didn't need another thing on his plate or another fork in his arm to worry about? What was she thinking? She shouldn't have done that.

Henry explained him knowing like seven languages so matter-of-factly. Like obviously he had to learn Russian and French and Italian and Arabic and Spanish. Obviously. Duh. Rose remembered him telling her that he had learned piano and violin when he had done private lessons as well. It made her wonder how they had had enough money back then, since they didn't really have so much money at the moment. Where had Luke gotten all that money? Or had it been from his mother? It made Rose wonder. Private lessons for two languages and two instruments must have been expensive for at least two kids, and who knows what Arthur had done? It didn't all connect. There must have been a dot she was missing, but it wasn't important that she knew it. She didn't want to make the same mistake as earlier and say too much.

At her joke, Henry and Arthur just stared at her, and Henry moved away from her, sending her a clear signal. Henry and Arthur couldn't take a joke? That was so strange. Henry had been able to take a joke when it was just her and him, but apparently with Arthur here, the both of them couldn't take a joke from her.

Why couldn't they take a joke? It was so strange to Rose.

Her and her siblings joked around all the time. Almost everything that came into their conversation was some form of joke. Sometimes they meant it, sometimes they didn't, but they always knew it came out of love and not any malice or dislike towards one another. She had assumed the same would be true with Henry and Arthur, since they were so close, but apparently not.

Or maybe they were just trying to exclude her on purpose. As Henry scooted away, Rose felt like leaving. She had been in her peaceful spot, alone, but then Arthur had just come and messed everything up. Rose looked down at her cake, picking at it with her fork but not actually eating it, disengaging in the conversation. She just wanted to be left alone.

She didn't tune them out, however, and looked up as somebody was described by Henry. The crush/girlfriend that was being described apparently looked a lot like Rose. At first, she thought it was Scarlett, but then she realized that Scarlett not only didn't have green eyes, she didn't fit some of the other descriptions. Rose narrowed her eyes a little. The description perfectly matched... her. She had red hair, green eyes, and was fairly intelligent. She was a duelist. She loved animals. As Henry continued, however, Rose realized it wasn't her. She looked back down at her cake as he continued.

Rose also didn't really like how he started out describing her physically, and everything else came after. Like how that was the most important thing about Alexa, and everything else came after. Maybe it hadn't been intentional. Rose had read all kinds of articles about how male brains were more physically oriented. Maybe Rose was just mad at the world and she was trying to find a reason that actually made sense.

Was that why Luke had married her mom? For how she looked? Rose couldn't deny that her mother was an attractive woman, but she didn't want that to be the main reason that her partner had married her. Was that all he wanted out of Pearl? Was her personality just a plus? Did he care about her personality at all? Was he just one of those creeps of a man who just wanted her beauty? If so, how long would their marriage last? Rose's mother couldn't have her heart broken again...

Maybe Rose was just overreacting. She was overreacting, wasn't she?

Henry wouldn't think about a girl like that, Rose knew that for sure. She was just being crazy and trying to blame things on people that they didn't deserve.

Henry asked her about her own love life. Rose wouldn't mind telling Henry about her love life, since they hadn't talked about it in a while. But Arthur? Why would she tell her step-brother, who she barely even knew, and she didn't even know if she liked yet, about her love life? "Uh- it's really complicated," Rose said quietly, only loud enough for the both of them to hear.

It kind of was. Rose had technically been dating Eyre Reeves since August of last year, but they had slowly grown apart. Rose hadn't wanted to start dating so early as she had, so she eventually broke the truth to Eyre and they broke up as friends around the end of the school year. But that didn't mean that sometimes she wished she hadn't, or sometimes she wondered if she had just ruined his entire life again. Rose sometimes hated herself for it, and sometimes she was grateful that she had broken it off in a mature way. She still liked Eyre. But she didn't think she was ready to date quite yet. And she was glad they were still friends, even though Rose seemed to be exponentially more awkward around him.

But she wasn't going to say all that to Arthur, so she let her mouth stay shut. She was determined not to ruin this again.

A Moment In The Past

The teen nodded to Rose as the topic about family hung around, Henry looked around noticing how nearly everyone was smiling or chattering. The guests were forming groups, laughing among one another, dancing, and enjoying the night away. The lights blinding down on those above, the breeze slowly went away and a unsettling heat starting to raise.

The heat made everything more uncomfortable as the night continued on, getting later and darker and darker as each minute ticked by.

Henry wandered if the people there were truly happy or were they just wearing a mask, concealing their true emotions the same as him... Blue eyes gazing around it was difficult to tell but maybe others had the same odd, the same strange thoughts and feelings that he had as well.

Snapped out of his thoughts, Henry looked over at the boy who Rose was pointing at when he saw hi owl cousin who was obnoxiously and aggresive, the teen wasn't pleased to see him as he spoke" uh no but the tall blonde besides him is sadly my cousin, Charles, " a few unsettling memories flashed within his mind's eye of fights breaking out and arguments between the mainly started by Charles as he continued" I met him once or twice, he's rather obnoxious and unruly. Uh he attends Dumstrang, I think but he did come for the visits and camps. Have you see him?" The teen decided just to nod toward Rose's answer whatever it might be as he turned away looking on at the others as the night continued on, letting his thoughts spiral around his mind.

The Present

The bond siblings have is different than most however Henry and Arthur are closer than brothers. They share a special bond, connection with each other and usually act different around each other than they act around others.

For most of their life before hogwarts, Arthur cared and helped raised Henry and Annabeth resulting in the two brothers to become best friends and rely on each other through the years, after all the lost they went through and will go through the two look at each other as someone that will always be at the other's side.

Henry shares hobbies with his brother and studies with him, currently practicing dueling and even quidditch with him. After all his brother was the reason that he's ahead in his classes and have straight O's while the two also have their own language and inside jokes.

"Uh- it's really complicated,"

Henry was smiling at his brother, they had their arms wrapped around each other and laughing at a inside joke between them when he heard Rose's voice and her words.

Turning to face her, his blue eyes catching her green when he saw her face and oddly he had a impulse and surge of emotion as he removed his arm from his brother, Arthur did the same. The thirteen year old obed his chair back between the two as he whispered to Rose in a lowed voice so only she could hear, "Did you and Eyre break up? Did he break up with you or hurt you?" The teen looked at Rose, his blue eyes meeting hers as he was concerned however his emotions remained hidden behind the 'barrier'.

Henry couldn't explain the sensation or feeling but he suddenly had the urge to run up to Eyre and punch or jinx the boy. Imaging the gryffindor breaking Rose's hurt almost broke him, he suddenly felt like he needed to protect her or help her. Was this how it felt to have a younger sibling?

"I'll see you to around," Arthur spoke as Henry turned to find that his elder brother was being waved over by the newly wed couple; Luke and Pearl. Probably to talk to him or introduce him to some family members.

Henry smiled toward Arthur as he watched his brother leave and approached the happy and smiling couple, not taking a moment to look at them as he turned to Rose who now was his focus at the wedding.

Rose nodded at his comment about Charles. It further proved that he didn't have a good relationship with his father's extended family. Rose smiled a little. How curious. "I haven't met him, no. I wonder if they know each other," she said quietly. How funny would it be if Henry's cousin Charles and Rose's cousin Drew knew each other? The connection between Rose and Henry had always seemed much more extensive than either of them had ever really known, between them both knowing Aldor, to them both knowing Scarlett, to their parents knowing each other and getting married, and now their cousins talking to each other. It was an interesting thing to ponder that they were more interconnected than they would ever know. Or maybe Drew was just being friendly. He did that often.

The moment she spoke back up again to answer his question, his attention shifted from Arthur to her, without hesitation. Rose glanced to Arthur, looking just a little bit embarrassed, not wanting to really answer Henry's question with Arthur there. Arthur left, and Rose felt a prick of guilt, opening her mouth to tell him to stay, but he left too quickly for her to be able to protest. She hadn't meant to doom him to family introductions with her mom and- well, her parents. Henry had looked like he was having so much fun with Arthur, and he really liked spending time with him, and Rose felt her heart sink as he left. Now Henry only had her, and was she really good enough for him anyway? She couldn't ever be as good of a sibling as Arthur was to Henry.

Rose shook the thought away. It wouldn't be any use thinking about it now, now that Arthur had already left, so she decided to answer his question. "No, he didn't hurt me. It- it was me, actually. Well- I didn't hurt him. I broke up with him, I mean," she said awkwardly. Eyre had been nothing short of an amazing boyfriend, and somebody that all guys should have aspired to be like when dating a girl. It wasn't Eyre, no. "I didn't think I was ready for all that- dating and romance and a boyfriend and stuff." She smiled softly. "You don't need to worry about all that- I really doubt that I'll be dating any time soon or anything," she told him, trying to reassure him.

It was true, though- Rose was not confident in her abilities to be able to date, or to be able to find a good boyfriend when she was ready. She was sure that by her fifth year, all the good guys that were ready to date would be taken by all the girls that were so much better than her. So much prettier, cleverer, funnier, and more interesting. She didn't think that she, of all people, would end up earning the love of anyone out there anytime soon.

She smiled, desperate to change the subject. "Anyway, tell me more about this Alexa. I think I've seen her around the castle, her name sounds familiar. She's a duelist, too, right?" she asked, trying to put a face to the name. She put her chin in her hands, asking, "How did you meet her?" Rose's voice was still quiet, but now she was trying to make the best out of a bad situation. Instead of running away, she just wanted to make the best out of the time she had with Henry, and now it had been uncovered that he had a girlfriend. (Well, technically, as he said, they weren't girlfriend-boyfriend, but they were close enough!)

Henry watched Arthur leave to their father and Rose's mother or rather their new stepmother before turning back to Rose.

His blue eyes watching her closely, emotions still hidden behind the 'barrier' as he was concerned and worried about his close friend and now stepsister, listening to her words detailing her break up with the second- third year gryffindor.

Rose broke up with Eyre? If she broke up with him then does that mean he hurt her in their relationship or didn't take her or her emotions or feelings or situations for granted? Eyre is rather a prick and yelled at me for not knowing what a rich pureblood with a family is going through..m probably not as bad as what a werewolf in a broken family and world of prejudices goes though...

"He is a git anyway so its probably for the best," Henry spoke with a soft smile toward Rose, in the third year's mind he still believed Eyre possible hurt the girl after all the gryffindor did yell at Henry, while Henry was having a bad dad and rather life.... the teen turned his attention to Rose's next words and instantly felt embarrassed he didn't mean to sound concerned or worried over Eyre breaking up with Rose. The teen didn't want the girl to think he was overstepping or reacting to something that wasn't his business at all, he didn't want to appear as a controlling or overprotective older stepbrother.

Henry feet his anxiety looming above as his mind spiraled with different situations and words that could happen next however none of this can be seen since he was determined to hide them as well so Rose and the others didn't worry and their nights not ruined as well.

'Should have kept your mouth shut'

Breath... just breath

'She doesn't need you, she already had a older brother'

Breath. Just breath

'Your nothing to her. Nothing'

Breath, breath, you have to keep this controlled at least for tonight

'What would she want with a failure anyway'

Breath Henry... breath

'A failure for all your time'

Breath, focus on Rose and Arthur and the night...

'A failure and a monster'

The teen turned to Rose, green meeting blue as he listened to her words and took a breath before softly replying" No- I... uh I didn't mean to imply or say anything just curious is all, but anyway anyone would be lucky to date someone as great as you," the teen smiled a little and felt the awkwardness set in as he smiled softly at his stepsister and playful spoke" it also is my responsibly as your older stepbrother that anyone you date is kind to you, right," smiling a little toward the girl before looking at the cake that laid in front of him and slowly picking at it wiry his fork.

"Alexa Lyall Mackenzie."

Henry spoke her full name softly, eyeing the piece of cake that laid on his plate. The teen set his fork down and while he had a few strange but good feelings for the girl, he wasn't exactly in the mood to talk about her as he turned his head toward Rose, connecting eyes as he softly smiled as usual and spoke" She's in our year and is a hufflepuff duelist, yes. Her partner changed a few times during the year, have you met her in class before?" Looking at the girl carefully, finding it odd that Alexa and him both changed their partners a few times that year.

Looking at Rose and nodding at whatever answer she would give, the teen would softly reply" she's friends with Alina Rosier and Lucia Fox if you know those two," Henry did, the lad met Alina last year where the two quickly became friends before she left for beauxbatons suddenly. Then later he met Lucia and quite enjoyed talking with her, especially River; the girls pygmy puff which was a bit skittish of Loki which he expected.

Offering Rose a simple smile as usual, the teen looked at her green eyes and spoke" we mainly study different creatures and animals together since we both like them, she also has a pet rat named Rascel, " the teen smiled softly remembering the girl and her pet, those were fun times spending with her then it came back to him that she was miles away. Oceans away. In America.

"We met last summer in diagon alley with Alina, the three of us finished our shopping then got ice cream then we rode together on the hogwarts express," Henry explained remembering last summer and his second year, remembering how normal he was then. How normal his life was. How easy it was to keep the terrible parts hidden from the world. How he have been a background character. How things have changed but wasn't some change good?

Turning back to Rose, blue meeting green as he softly smile at her and spoke" we met before the year end, confessed our feelings and kissed a few times then I think we started dating. Uh we're writing to each other," the teen wasn't going to tell Rose about Alexa's mother, he felt bad keeping it from her but it wasn't his story to tell. It was Alexa's. The teen took a breath, turning away from Rose as he looked at his cake in front of him as he spoke" she's in a American anyway because her mothers sick and doesn't know how long she'll be there," the teen could feel the awkwardness setting in as he awkwardly turned to Rose and shuttered, " enough about m...me, is there anyone you fancy?"

======================================
Rose stayed quiet when Henry mentioned that Eyre was, apparently, a git. She looked thoughtfully at the sky. She didn't think Eyre was a git. He had been nothing but sweet and understanding to her. He had stuck by her side when so many of her friends had seemed to disappear. He was the boyfriend beyond anything a girl could ask for. But they had just seemed to drift apart, and Rose began to doubt herself as a girlfriend. She had only been twelve years old. She wasn't ready for a serious and committed relationship. It had been amazing while it had lasted, and looking back on it was bittersweet. He certainly was never a git to her.

She wondered why Henry would say that. Had him and Eyre had a bad encounter? Was Henry just protective that she ended up breaking up with him? Did he wonder if Rose wasn't telling him the whole truth?

Rose shook away those thoughts. It wasn't something to worry about, right? It was all over now. She shrugged and said simply, "He wasn't a git to me." It wasn't said in a judging or defensive way, just in a way that said said they could agree to disagree about him, and she didn't mind. "But you're probably right- I'm better off without a boyfriend," she said, smiling at him. He did seem to empower her, didn't he? She guessed that's what siblings were supposed to do, empower each other.

Henry seemed to want to clear up his intentions. Rose knew he was protective of her. He would do anything to stop her from getting hurt, and she appreciated that he thought of her. Rose knew Henry could keep his bearings if he got hurt. He was strong like that.

But there would be hell to pay to Rose if anybody hurt him on her watch.

For example, if Alexa hurt him, she would be getting a hex to the face. Rose didn't care what it took, she would make sure that people knew the consequences of hurting her friends. It was not okay.

Rose shook her head, a small smile on her face. "Don't worry about it," she repeated. "Thank you." Of course Henry thought anybody would be lucky to date her. She appreciated his words.

Rose rolled her eyes, smirking a little at his next words. "Just because you're less than five months older than me doesn't mean that you have to worry about me any more than I worry about you," she said. They were equals, after all, right? Rose had always seen Henry as her equal. They would help each other. They would give each other a leg up. They would encourage each other. They were equals in that way. They could both worry about each other and care about each other the same amount, because they were equals. Just because he was five months older than her didn't mean that he needed to protect her any more than she protected him, right?

As Henry talked to her about Alexa, she held her head in her hands, listening to his words. Her eyebrows raised. "You're on a middle name basis?" she asked. "How fancy," she said, imitating his accent.

Rose shook her head slowly. "I haven't met her, no. But I think I may have had a couple classes with her last year," she said thoughtfully. He mentioned Alina and Lucia. Rose nodded this time. "Yeah, I know them. Well- knew them in Alina's case." Alina had been very close friends with her in their first year. They had taken charms together and had even had a sleepover at Alina's manor, talking about things. Rose might even have described her as her best friend, her friend who was there when nobody else was. Then she just disappeared. She transferred to Beauxbatons, and Rose couldn't even remember getting a goodbye. What had happened to Alina Rosier? Rose nodded. She had been friends with Alina, apparently. Before Alina disappeared.

The redhead smiled. Of course him and Alexa studied together. Rose wasn't sure if they were studying or "studying," though it was probably a mix of both. "And what does Loki think of Rascal?" she asked. Rose was sure that Loki must have some instinctual drive to hunt rats, right? He just seemed like the kind of cat to do that. Chaska had brought Rose a couple of birds that she had caught, but she hadn't exactly killed them. She just caught them and carried them to Rose. Rose would keep her cat away from the bird until it flew off again. Even though Chaska was a killer, she wasn't a hunter.

Henry finished his story. "Aww. She sounds like a keeper," Rose said quietly. Then he mentioned that she was in America with her mother, who was sick. "Oh. That's horrible," she murmured.

Was there anybody that Rose fancied? She looked up at the night sky in thought. She definitely thought some boys in her classes and around the school attractive, but there wasn't anybody at the moment that was her crush, or her boyfriend. "No, not at the moment. But I'm okay with that for now. Take a little me time," she said, meaning it. "I'm glad you're happy with Alexa," she said, wrapping up the converstaion. She didn't want him to feel too awkward talking about his love life.

Rose glanced around the reception. She could see her mom and- well, actually, her parents- talking. He came in to snag a kiss on her cheek for a camera, and she giggled. They were just so disgustingly cute. Rose swallowed back a mouthful of bile, and tucked her hands under her legs. Just looking at the cake, the reception, her parents. everything just seemed sickeningly sweet. Like it was meant to be a wonderful flavor of sweet, but they dumped too many chemicals into the batter. It all felt wrong. It all felt fake. It all felt horrible. And now Rose had seemed to yank Henry away from his brother, with a small mention of her love life.

Was she ruining his night?

Rose spied Drew and his friend, supposedly Charles come over to join her and Henry. "Incoming," she said quietly, mustering back up a mask to hide behind. She was happy her mom was married. She was happy. It almost seemed like Drew was dragging along Charles.

"Hello, Rose," he said, sitting down on the other side of his cousin. Charles sat down on the other side of Drew.

She smiled. "Hey, Drew. This is my stepbrother, Henry. And Henry, my cousin, Andrew," she introduced the both of them. "And you're Charles?" she asked Drew's blonde friend. "Nice to meet you."

"Yeah, Charles and I were just talking how crazy it is that our cousins are now step-siblings," Drew said, nodding. "Isn't that weird?" Rose shrugged. "Does that make us like, second cousins or something?" he asked.

Rose shook her head. "I don't think so. It's only by marriage, so you guys aren't related at all," she said, glancing to Henry with a look that asked for confirmation.

Drew scoffed. "Aw, dang it. Well, I guess we're just the cousins of step-siblings, then." He then turned to Henry. "So, Henry. Tell me about yourself," he prompted, trying to be friendly.
I wrote a lot, didn't reply to our threads for four days and didn't realize how much I missed it T.T
