Walk of Endearment

@Lamik Fillestar
It was different, Elena commonly made the trek from King's Cross to the idling, black car waiting operated by her father usually alone and in a mode of silence. This time was different though, Flutters had come flying back the day after she had sent him with a most enthusatic approval and the brunette had nearly jumped for joy. They had said yes and now here they were, the day of reckoning had come. "He's really nice, I promise." The girl had been reassuring Lamik all the way since the Hogwarts Express had come to a steaming stop to the time they had popped out of at the pillar stationed at Nine and Three Quarters guiding him to the old sleek black automobile that waited like it did every summer except this time, it wasn't being operated by her father, Robhurst Jangleton. The head steward was actually sitting in the driver's seat this time.
The back door was already open for the duo inviting them in as the girl nodded to the open seats. "Come on then." She'd say to Lamik grinning attempting to pull him a bit by the hand perhaps too caught up in her own excitement as they were soon greeted by the interior of the vehicle that would be transporting them to the Jangleton estate. She'd greet the steward with a gentle nod of her head and a few customary words. "Father sent you today, Liam?" She'd pose slightly curious as she pulled the car door shut and without a moment's hesitation, the old automobile rumbled to life and began to trundle down the roadway out of the city limits and onto the winding pathways of rural England well on it's way to West Sussex.
"Your father is tied up with personal matters, Miss Jangleton. He sent me to pick you and your friend up. We shall be there shortly."
Personal matters, her foot. She simply rolled her eyes at that excuse before turning back to face Lamik. "Just be yourself. You'll be fine, everyone's really curious and excited to meet you." It was the first time in several years that the brunette had even entertained the thought of showing anyone around her personal residence so the others knew it was a big step for her though how her parents would take it was a different story altogether. Soon after, the vehicle shuddered to a stop as through their window, the visage of a castle burst into view as they came to a stop before the drawbridge which had been shuttered closed but Elena knew the way from here as was evidenced by her already opening the door eager to get the moment of truth underway. "We'll take it from here, Liam. Thanks!"
"Miss Jangleton, I do suggest that you wait befo-." The steward could barely finish the sentence before the Gryffindor girl was already on the dirt roadway that winded off away from the drawbridge and led to the main entrance beckoning for Lamik to follow her barely paying any heed to the steward who had driven them there. "Don't worry about your trunks and stuff, Liam will take care of it." They already had rooms prepped but before that, she would have to introduce him to everyone or rather, whoever was willing to meet him, the brunette silently crossed her fingers that Darren would keep his silly mouth shut as the path eventually lead to a tower connected to the main castle with two wooden double doors propped open as if they were already being expected inside.
She stopped there turning to face him. "I can give you the tour of the place first if you want? Unless, you want to chow down then we can head to the dining hall, everyone's there anyways." She didn't really mind anyways, the girl was sure they still weren't even aware the two had already made it home though maybe they did. Here, even the walls had eyes and ears as she gestured for Lamik to enter the first corridors of many that made up the small castle and upon entry, they would be greeted with a hallway decorated with torches and portraits of movingfigures of history, their names on a plaque below the frames. The picture frame of an rather ominous-looking wizard would shake his head at the girl as the brunette passed it without as much batting an eye towards it. "Sorry, he's always in a sort of a mood." The girl added as they rounded a corner and were greeted by the odor of food.
"So, food or tour?" Elena said turning to face him, the question lingering in the air.

@Elena Jangleton
This was as new to Lamik as it was to Elena. During his two previous summer breaks, the boy had always gone straight home- his parents and little sister would be waiting at kings cross, he'd be met with hugs and kisses, and away they'd go. Today was different. He wasn't going home right away. He wouldn't be meeting his parents right away. He wouldn't be given hugs or kisses right away. Instead, he was going with Elena, his friend, to her house for a bit. Her giant, incredible, castle-house thing. There was a part of Lamik that was nervous, though he couldn't quite tell why- He had been to friends' houses before, after all, and this shouldn't have been any different. Of course, It was different, but that wasn't something that he realized yet.
Lamik had no reason to doubt Elena when she said that her father was nice. Meeting her family wasn't something that particularly worried him. It might have been due to this than that he was a little bit disappointed when he realized that her father wasn't in fact the man in the car. Then again, having a... whatever this "Liam" person was was an interesting thing to see. Looking down at the palm of the hand that Elena had pulled him by, Lamik didn't really pay attention to what was going on around him until he was directly addressed. "Oh- um..." He stammered, processing the statement. "Oh! Don't worry, I'm not worried. Who could dislike me, after all?" The boy grinned at his friend. Hopefully, she'd understand that he was joking. Lamik knew from experience that he was sometimes tone-deaf.
They reached the castle much sooner than Lamik had expected. Looking out of the window with wide eyes, he barely noticed when Elena left the car and called him to follow. "Right, sorry!" He called, quickly taking off his seatbelt and jumping out after her. Once Elena told him not to worry about the luggage, he nodded, quickly stuck his head back in the car, thanked the steward, closed the door, and followed the girl. As they approached, and then entered the castle, he was once again struck by how grand the place was. His house certainly wasn't small, but it wasn't anything even remotely close to this. "Um... tour." Lamik said after staring at the portraits for a bit. He turned to smile at Elena. "I'd be happy if you showed me around."

@Lamik Fillestar
Honestly, he had a point. Lamik might have been joking but Elena thought it was seriously true because it was truly an impossible mission not to like Lamik for who he was and anyone who thought different either had clearly lost their marbles or had a very different outlook on life than the majority of people. She was sure he would fit right in with the rest of everyone here and she had ironed out any kinks or disruptions even going as far to fuss over the tiniest detail which might have been a bit of an overexagerration on her part but she was content with it. "Tour it is then." Elena proclaimed proudly wondering where to start. The Jangleton estate was quite the expanisve space which should be blatantly obvious by now so she reckoned they should start with hitting the major points of the residence maybe even going as far to point nifty little fun facts here and there as they went about.
She supposed they could start with the good stuff first beckoning for him to follow talking as they walked. "It's set up a bit like Hogwarts except without the floating staircases, common rooms and stuff." They were after all not a school, just a residence that housed a multitude of people as she stopped before a wooden door pushing it open gesturing to the large kitchen area where three house elves were hard at work, the sound of pots and pans and their high-pitched voices as they scrambled to finish the remaining dishes for the meal that was being arranged in the grand hall. "Tootsie, Floppy and Jumpy." She would introduce each of them in turn pointing in turn to each of them who would give a rather high-pitched hello to the boy before turning back to their tasks at hand. They were nice really but it was probably better not to disturb them while they were hard at work or they were more likely to stick you with a fork or something watching as a loaf of bread went sailing across the room to land cleanly on a plate. Their kitchen effiency was also somewhat questionable but they got the job done.
As Elena would move to exit the kitchen, she would nod towards another corridor that veered off to the left that led to an outside area where several retainers were tending to the plants which ranged in variety from roses to pelican flowers with a practiced hand. "That's our garden and vineyard, it's where we get our fruits and stuff, it also has a nice walkway that we can explore later maybe if you're down for it." Personally, the brunette wasn't as opposed to the idea but all of that would have to wait until after the meal as the girl bounced up what seemed like several flights of stairs which were overlooked by arc-shaped windows beaming sunlight into the interior before finally they stumbled upon a rather lavish-looking hallway adorned with a red and gold trimmed carpet with doors on either side with names plaque on each one.
"This.." She announced as she began walking the length of the corridor. "This is everyone's rooms, mine, Mum's, Dad's." Upon closer inspection, it would be noted that some of the doors seemed worn out beyond repair and had been padlocked with the plaque scratched out, something she would comment on somberly. "Yeah, don't mind those. Those are people who've passed on or have been removed from the family." Personally, she had more experience with the second option having witnessed such a scene herself and it wasn't a pretty sight. Before long, they arrived at her own room, the brunette giving it a push to reveal the interior. "Come on then!" She said grinning at Lamik gesturing him in and it certainly was different from the others. The bookshelf in the corner held her textbooks topped off with random souvneirs she had collected at the castle and the wallpaper was a deep red with gold stripes. A small window was present next to her bed where Elena could look out over the large expanse of the estate, something she did quite too often these days. All in all, it was very simple holding only the things she needed as well as a few personal amenities but aside from that, it was just perfect for her. A hoot would greet them as Flutters along with her trunk had been transported up here as well as the barn owl locked them with a gaze with his perch on the windowsill.
"I hope it's not too bad. I've never let anyone in here before." She admitted letting out a nervous laugh. Especially not Darren, her brother had too much of a mischievious side to him to let him roam about unsupervised.

Lamik wasn't entirely sure how the castle was set up like Hogwarts, but he nodded along anyway. Elena, being from a wizarding household, would probably know better than him. He followed her through the halls, scanning the walls, floors, and ceilings for any little interesting detail, of which he found many. Whether that was because interesting detail actually existed or because he was interested in everything simply because it was Elena's house was up for debate. The boy waved meekly at the House Elves as they passed, doing his best to memorize their names- Tootsie, Floppie, Jumpy. The boy knew that the wizarding world didn't always treat house-elves right, and he was keen on not being a part of that (and certain the Elena wasn't either). Eventually, the duo reached the garden and vineyard, which Lamik found to be the most impressive part of the estate (that he had seen until that point, at least). It really did feel like something out of a fairytale, something that Lamik had begun to feel less and less as he got used to the wizarding world. When Elena suggested that they explore it at some point, he agreed enthusiastically.
Finally, they reached the bedrooms, which Lamik found very strange. How could someone be removed from a family? Why lock the doors of those peoples rooms, and those of family members who had died? He'd have to ask about it all at some point, but for the moment he decided to just listen. When they finally entered Elena's room, and the girl expressed her worries, he shook his head. "Not sure what you mean by bad, really. I haven't seen anything bad since we got here, and this definitely doesn't break the pattern." Lamik found the room to be great- he liked the lack of clutter, he liked the color of the walls, and after looking out the window, he liked the view too. "Though I don't really know what I did to deserve the honor of being the first one in here."

@Lamik Fillestar
Elena knew, she knew why she had chosen him of all people to allow into her room. Heck, it was her little solitary bubble that where she could be herself and only very few people were privy to her home life and Lamik was one of the few ones the brunette reckoned fit into the category of people that understood her well enough. The words she wanted to say so badly burned at the tip of her tone but the girl knew that would have to wait, She was waiting for the right moment, she guessed smiling trying to take things one step at a time. She might not have displayed it or been clearly obvious about it but internally, she was a nervous wreck silently hoping that everything would go according to plan. Elena just hoped that when everything was said and done, it wouldn't blow up in her face though so far, they seemed to be chugging along just fine which made her feel somewhat at ease as she thought for a moment on how to answer his question.
"Well, my brother's too annoying so my room is off-limits to him though I doubt he listens." Honestly, with the amount of new foolish ideas he came up with on the daily, she was surprised the castle hadn't been turned into a warzone or something but still, she had explicity told him to keep her room out of the way of his destructive actions and so far, he had managed to abide by that role, a shocking achievement for someone who typically turned a deaf ear when it came to order, rules and regulation. "It just felt right, I guess so maybe you did something to deserve it but here we are." She said grinning a bit. Something about it had just clicked, really, the offer of an tour while genuine had perhaps also been an excuse to skirt off somewhere with her friend before they had to face the flair and formalites that came with any sort of social gathering. Speaking of which, as they spoke, the door sprang open without any warning to reveal a rather young man perhaps in his early 20's straightening his tie.
Elena sprang up from where she had just begun to take a seat turning an indignant look on none other than Darren Jangleton. "You're supposed to knock, y'know!" A small chuckle escaped her brother as he idled in. "Me and manners? You should know better." The brunette rolled her eyes as she folded her arms, her expression clearly spelling a question. "Anyways, Mum sent up here to fetch you two so once you're done flirting, they're waiting on y'all downstairs." With that, Darren would slip out shooting them a mischevious grin as he darted down the hallway. "We''re just talking, it's nothing like that." Elena shouted after him her cheeks reddening as a round of laughter echoed down the hallway. Shaking her head, she turned back to Lamik. "See, told you? A handful , he is." She would have to get him back for that one though. "We should get going though, don't want to keep them waiting."

Lamik listened to her explanation, and though it really didn't answer anything, he nodded. No point in pressing if the person you were trying to get an answer from didn't know the answer themselves.
It was weird being at a friend's house. Back before Hogwarts, it was something that happened multiple times a week. Since then though... the only person whose house he visited that wasn't a family member was Jake Morris. Jake was great, but he had only visited once. In three years. That was too little for his liking. Of course, there was less of an opportunity to visit friends houses, given the fact that he spent most of the year at Hogwarts, but it was still nice to do it again.
It was after this train of thought that the two were interrupted by someone, who Lamik could only assume was Elena's brother. A bit older than he imagined, but that didn't really change anything. He told them to come to say hi to the rest of their family. He also told them they could wait until they stopped flirting. The word barely registered for the first few moments, and when it did, Lamiks felt his breath get caught in his throat. He looked at the door, wondering what he should say. After briefly considering it, he decided to test something. "I guess we're done flirting." The boy then walked out of the room and into the corridor.

Leave it to Darren to find something about the situation to poke fun at, it was as he put it one of his proudest skills. His sheer natural-born talent to see the situation for what it was and put it as it was bluntly though sometimes, that was less than welcoming as Elena was beginning to realize. Being given the cue to come and meet the rest of the family which by now was surely prepared with all the chaos she had seen on the way in and the elves juggling around dishes here and there. "Suppose so." Elena stammered out slightly composing herself, the last thing she needed was her brother to tease her about the blushing and everything else. He knew, she knew and her parents knew probably by at this point but that didn't mean he needed to voice it to the whole wide world. Following Lamik, they would pass the corridor to the staircase that would lead them down to the lower level.
Soon enough, they found themselves in front of the open double-doors that led to an grand room that was bustling with light and noise. Torches and chandeiliers filled the room with light complete with a lengthy table adorned with plates and silverware. Some gentle tunes were being played courtesy of the orchestra tucked away in one corner as they idled their way. "Feels more like a feast than a home dinner really." She muttered to Lamik as they crept their way forward. If he had been impressed at the sheer size of the residence and it's accompanying features than Elena suspected this would be something that would also cause him to take a step or two to get used to it as as they approached the table. Several people were already seated there, Darren being one of them and two other adults respectively Elena's parents with a few hovering aides ready to attend to the requests of those seated.
Some chicken soup and salad along with with some steak and chips all in their serving containers for everyone to take. She could almost sense the smirk on Darren's face as they approached shooting him an look before turning her attention to the head of the table where her father, Robhurst Jangleton sat drumming his fingers on the table with shoulder-length grey hair and in a neat suit and tie. "Sorry we're late. I was just giving Lamik the tour of the place." She said smiling before settling into a chair beckoning to the empty one beside her for Lamik. "I trust Elena hasn't been overwhelming you too much." The man said laughing slightly before gesturing to everyone in turn. It seemed introductions were in order.
"I'm glad you decided to join us, you've already met Darren, I suspect and we are Elena's parents, Robhurst and Adrianna Jangleton." He said beckoning to himself and the woman seated directly opposite from Elena who gave a rather welcoming smile though if the Gryffindor girl knew any better, she knew they were only acting this way due to the fact that Lamik was a guest, otherwise, their true colors were something entirely different. "Do dig in, dear. You lot must be tired from the ride home, Liam will attend to any of your needs should you need it." She said nodding to the steward who had brought them here who had been going around making sure the glasses were filled with the drinker's request whatever that might may be.
The grandfather clock on the wall would bong with every passing of the hour as the group of people seated at the table divulged into their supper. It would not be long before both of her parents would promptly excuse themselfs perhaps to attend to some other matters leaving only herself, Lamik and Darren. "So, what's the story? How'd y'all meet?" He asked a bit more at ease now that the adults were gone reaching over to plop a carrot into his mouth leaning back in his chair grinning at the two of them. "At school." Elena replied shortly eyeing him knowing what he was playing at. He would roll his eye in response. "No duh, but how? You just magically appear in front of him or something? Give me the deets."
He really was far too invested in this for her liking.

"Woah." That was all Lamik could say for a good few moments after entering the dining room. This was no Hogwarts, sure, but it was also a residence meant for a single family. The torches and chandeliers, the table, not to mention the live music. It really was incredible how often it was possible to be blown away by a single house in a single day. The food looked wonderful too, of course. Elena wasn't joking when she said it was more like a feast. It took him a few moments to even realize that she had taken a seat, and when he did he quickly took the one beside her.
"Overwhelmed is an understatement, I think. It's pretty awesome though." Lamik said with a grin in response to the man who was probably Elena's father. He was an interesting-looking man, in the boy's opinion. Very... wizard-like. Maybe it was just the hair, which reminded him of the stereotypical wizard portrayed by muggles. It didn't really matter, of course, and Lamik quickly turned his attention to Elena's mother and brother, to which he gave two quick waves. They all seemed nice. Not at all the pretentious rich families that he knew existed in Hogwarts. That was a relief. Not that he was particularly surprised- after all, Elena was great, why wouldn't her family be?
After being invited to eat, and taking some chips and steak onto his plate (no drinks, he wasn't sure if he was comfortable with having a Liam yet), Lamik ate. It was good food. Very good food. Or maybe he just had low standards. Either way, he was enjoying himself. The boy was in the middle of chewing on his last bit of steak when Darren asked his question. Elena answered, Darren asked for more information, and Lamik swallowed and obliged. "Well I was being stupid and cast the smokescreen spell in an unused classroom one day without making sure it was empty. Elena was inside it. She couldn't see anything, and I can do this..." He furrowed his brows for a moment. "...thing. So I went over to help her find her way out. Vuala! Friendship."

@Lamik Fillestar
Lamik gave a very straightforward answer understandably clueless to what Darren was trying to imply. Her brother true to his prankster form was left with a dissappointed expression on his face, well, it was more of a bored look if anything at the fact that there was nothing he could use against his little sister. He perhaps might have drew some satisfaction from the fact however that Elena Jangleton had been on the recieving end of the Smokescreen Spell, a hilarious encounter that seemed to repeat itself over and over again. "Yeah, it's like a thing now. Same thing happed at the last ball though it was for a good cause." If anything, they had walked out of that party mosp-free and sting-free but it seemed Darren had found his inner comedian once again.
That stupid, silly grin graced his features once again."You know what else is a thing?" Her eyebrows came together, her eyes spelled a message as she turned her head to lock her brother with the meanest look she could come up with. They had been over this before Lamik had come over and he had already violated that sacred rule. Leave it to Darren to muck things up as she spoke, a implied warning if anything in the form of his name. "Darren.." Translation, think very carefully about what you're about to say. Naturally, Darren Jangleton did not think before he said things and this time was no different reaching over to snag a second carrot breaking off a piece of it chewing on it slowly as he stood up from his chair gesturing at the two of them.
"This. Y'all are a thing" With that, he turned his back with a hurried pace as he made a beeline out of the dining room as an rolled up napkin bounced off the back of his head, courtesy of one Elena Jangleton who was going to postively demolish him later on. "For the millionth time, it's not what you think." The brunette shouted after him as he stopped midway in the entryway casting her a sarcastic look. "Sure, you keep telling yourself that, sis. I'll leave you two alone." With that and a wink, he dissappeared from the dining hall still chewing on a carrot content that his mission had been complete.
If anything, the faint blush in her cheeks was more vivid now as she returned her attention back to Lamik. "See, I told you, he can be a right arse sometimes." Annoying, a clown and as much as she hated to admit it painstakingly right even when the brunette refused to admit it. It was just the two of them with the occasional exception of a house elf that would scurry in every now and then to clear off the plates thta had been disregarded but they were for the most part in relative privacy and silence.
Through the windows, the night sky could be seen falling on them and the flickering torches providing more light than they had in the daytime as she looked at them and at the twinkling stars. "They're pretty, y'know." She said gesturing at a few of the stars that seemed to gleam just a bit brightly than all the others almost as if they were trying to send a message, a signal of something.
"Hey, Lamik?"
Her eyes shifted to meet his.
"Thanks for coming. It's nice to have some company every once in a while."

"Mhm! Now that was a disaster. We got out of it alright though." Lamik nodded at Elena. "Teamwork and all that." He wasn't sure how he felt about that day, looking back. On one hand, it was a terrifying, nightmare-inducing, traumatizing experience. Those mosps with their stingers... he shuddered at the thought. On the other hand, though, it was like something you'd see in a movie or read in a book. Exciting. Adventurous. A story to tell.
He was pulled back to present day by Darren though, who was talking about how Elena and Lamik were a thing. A thing. He could do nothing but look down at the table. How in the world was he meant to respond to something like that? Elena denied it quickly, which felt a bit like a punch to the gut, any hope that he had of Darrans words being true quickly being crushed.
Then Darran left, and it was just the two of them. Alone. Lamik shrugged a bit when Elena made a comment about her brother, but turned to look at her when she said the stars were pretty. He couldn't be bothered to look at them himself, preoccupied with her quick denial of them being a "thing". Suddenly she made eye contact though, and bam, it felt like his heart exploded. "Yes they are." He responded, still not bothering to look at them. "It's nice to be with you."
