Summer Holidays Solo Finished

Wesley sat on his front step, boredom staring at his sister Kennedy play around with one of their dogs, Tanner, his chin in his palm, and beads of sweat from the hot English Summer weather making his hair seem more noodly. Kennedy giggled and threw Tanner’s neon yellow tennis ball further up the large, grassy front yard. Tanner barked and sped off to catch it in his drool-infested mouth. As usual, Wes had been told by his parents to ‘keep an eye on your sisters, oh, and your brother’. This was the most boring task they had ever set him; though it was normal, and it pretty much occurred on a daily basis. Melody, his twin sister with dark brown hair, sat on one of the two swings on their swing-set they had placed out there, kicking herself quicker and quicker; Kennedy, as explained, was playing Fetch with one of the Hart’s two dogs, Tanner; Arialla was running around, trying to teach herself how to do many things: how to ride a bike (though she only reached the driveway when she was knocked over by Tanner onto the lush grass), how to keep a hula hoop spinning around her waist, and the list goes insanely on; Ian was reading a fashion magazine - probably Vogue or Seventeen - with his legs crossed, and makeup seeming unfazed in the warmth. Rosalina, the second Hart Family dog, was next to Melody, trying to eagerly pull herself up onto the left swing (which we all know would not end well), in which Melody stopped her so as to prevent her from injuring herself. Plaid was curled up, bathing and soaking in the glowing, glistening, glittering sunshine, next to Wesley, a faint smile on her lips. The bunnies were in their Outdoor Pen, running around and having fun in the sun, much like the others. Wish was on top of the Shade House, which she had reached from the ramp running from the roof of the Shade House to the grass; Imagine had managed to fit inside the makeshift tunnel out of used toilet roll that had been painted pink and purple by Kennedy and Arialla; and Memory was looking much like Plaid, letting the sunlight sink into her fur and skin.

Their mother and father had driven to the train station to collect Wesley’s best friend Kristen and her parents and sister. You see, Wes had friends at Hogwarts, but also out of Hogwarts; his best was Kristen Poirot, who lived in Lille, France. Every Summer Holidays, Kristen and her parents and her sister visited England, and stayed in the guest rooms in the Hart Residence. Honestly Wes couldn’t be patient for his parents and Kristen’s family to arrive, he had missed Kristen so much! Kristen and her older sister Emma attended Beauxbatons, the all-girl wizarding school for France. Kristen had been placed in Papillonlisse, and often told Wesley the stories she had expirienced being in the French Equivalent to Hufflepuff, Emma had been sorted into Bellefeuille which was more or less the French Equivalent to Gryffindor (Wesley’s questioned House).

In the distant, just down the street, a car engine was travelling to the direction of the Hart Residence. And Wes immediately recognised it, as soon as it was first heard. Now this, ladies and gentleman, was the engine of Mr Harrison Hart’s car: his shiny scarlet Reno Clio. Dark hazel eyes brightened, more into a dull yellow, and Wes bounced up, which caused Plaid to flinch, and ran to the driveway. A broad grin grew onto his face, Wesley's deep dimples popping up on his cheeks. This showed really how happy he was - the deeper the dimple, the happier Wes seemed to be. Mr Hart's ruby red Reno pulled up into the driveway, just barely running past Wes. Through the blue-tinted window, Wesley could make out Kristen's snow white smile, which made him smile so much more. The sparkly Reno's engine huffed and puffed to an abrupt stop, allowing Wes to pull the handle on Kristen's side.

The red door opened and Kristen clicked her seatbelt undone. She leaped up into Wesley's arms and engulfed him in a tight hug. It had been such a long time! The last time Wes and Kris had seen each other was Summer of 2017 - last year.

"Wes!" Kristen exclaimed, her French accent awfully noticeable and incredibly thick. "Oh, how I've missed you!" Both of the friends let go, and they pulled back; Wesley's green-hazel eyes went from cheerfully gazing at Kristen, to (yet again cheerfully) gazing at Emma. "Emma! Is Beauxbatons good?" Wes said, his smile just growing too big. Emma nodded, her wavy brown hair shining like a star, and her blue eyes piercing and like the Caribbean. "Formidable, thank you, Wesley," Emma replied, crossing her arms in a relaxed way. She had climbed out of the car behind her younger sister. "Can you remember that word?" Emma's accent too was thick and easily French. Now that question caused Wes to go off to another dimension, to think about the meaning of 'formidable'. Emma had taught Wes what some words meant last Summer, and he practised French often. "Wonderful?" Wes guessed, crossing his arms too, and shrugging. "Now let's go! We can get your bags later!" Wesley raced off to the front garden, to the front door, and inside.

In Wesley's room, Emma, Kristen and Wes sat on his bed; on the neat grey duvet. "How do you say 'We have a new trampoline'?" Wes asked, looking at both of the girls.
"Nous avons un nouveau trampoline," said Emma, nodding and tucking some hair behind her ear.
"Yes, that."
"Oh, really?" Kristen asked, clearly intrigued. Wesley nodded.
"Yes. Would you like to go jumping on it?"
Without a warning, Kristen flashed out the room, zoomed down the stairs and out the back door. "She enjoys trampolines," said Emma, a giggle in her voice. Emma and Wes walked downstairs at a normal pace to the backyard.

Kristen had kicked off her shimmery ballet flats and leaped onto the trampoline. She was bouncing up and down, the springs very loud. "We also have a slide and a monkey bars," Wes said, cocking his head towards the different equipment. Kristen jumped onto the soft grass and ran up the ladder to the slide, she then pushed off, zipping down the slide. As she stood up, Kristen was already approaching the blue monkey bars. She leaped up to the first bar, and swung to the next.

Emma sighed, crossing her arms once again. "She is too energetic," Emma groaned, rolling her eyes.
"Salut!" Kristen exclaimed as she hauled herself to the next bar. "Our parents are having another baby!" Emma nodded. "If it's a girl: Sadie, Valerie, Angeletta, or Aubry. If it's a boy: Aramis, Athos, Porthos, or D'Artagnan. Papa likes the Three Muskateers, let's say that."
"Incroyable - that means incredible," Emma said with a smile. "The baby is due in September, or the end of August."

The parents, dogs, cat, bunnies, Ian, Everest, Kennedy and Arialla wandered outside in a group. Ian still had his glossy, perfumed magazine, and sat on the short brick wall to border the different back gardens; Arialla had a neon pink frisbee in her grip, ready to play Piggy In The Middle with Tanner and Kennedy; Everest was in Mrs Hart's lap, smiling at the bunnies, which were hopping around next to Rosalina for safety; the different-gendered parents started up their own conversations: the Missus' began talking about Mrs Poirot's upcoming baby, the Misters began talking about cars. Plaid lay next to Ian, seemingly skimming the images and texts on the different pages.
