Twilight Snow Fairies
@Jack Burnett
It was still light out, but only just. Twilight had fallen on the Hogwarts grounds as Lore made her way out of the castle and down the sloping paths to the grounds. A light whisper of snow began to fall, and the winds stopped, leaving the scene a quiet, winter paradise. A few birds could be heard chirping here and there, and students were gathered in scattered small groups, chit chatting among themselves.
Gazing around in wonder at the beauty of her surroundings, Lore felt as if she could burst with happiness. She'd finally made it to Hogwarts, and had been sorted into Ravenclaw, her favorite house. All the excitement of the first few days had started to die down, leaving Lore in need of some quiet time in nature. She'd put on her navy, faux white fur trimmed winter coat, black gloves and her favorite black galoshes, perfect for playing in snow.
After walking a few yards away from everyone, she found a secluded spot blanketed in a thick layer of crisp, new snow. Unable to contain her delight, she promptly laid down and began making snow fairies. After a few moments of getting the wings and dress juuuust right, she stopped and sat up, surveying her work.
"Brilliant."
And then it hit her...she could do something with this. If someone else happened along, it sure would be a funny scene to find if she managed to...
Jumping up, she carefully moved to the space next to her fairy, and began the slow process of creating a large snow fairy mandala in the clearing. One after another, each fairy curved around to form a magnificent spiral of snow fae.
Rising to her feet clumsily, she giggled to herself and ran away, minding to cover her tracks in the snow. A cluster of nearby bushes served as the perfect hiding spot.
What will they think when they see this? she thought to herself, smirking in amusement. They'll think someone's been abducted! Or they're about to be abducted!!
It honestly wasn't the best prank she'd ever thought of, but if worse came to worse, she'd just jump out and scare the unsuspecting passerby anyway.

Twilight Snow Fairies
Jack had come out in the hopes of starting a snowball fight, but apparently the snow was too new for that. It was dry instead of wet; too powdery and not 'sticky' enough to form snowballs, much less a snow fort for defense. He had gotten all bundled up in his winter uniform and robes for nothing. With a disappointed cloud of frigid breath, the first year was about to head back indoors when he noticed a shape out the corner of his eye in the new snow. It was too large and neat to be natural, but no one else appeared to be around, so he decided to go investigate.(@Lore Solaris, If I messed up in any way, like assuming that snow angels and snow fairies are different if they're not supposed to be, please let me know and I'll fix it immediately.)
Once he reached the edge of the snow fae spiral, he halted, careful not to step into it. Staring at the pattern, his mouth formed a thin line. After a few moments, he asked aloud, "Is this some new definition of the term, 'fairy ring'?"
Though familiar with the typical 'snow angel', by the shape of these wings, they were most certainly fae. Jack liked to think he was something of an expert on the beings, particularly because so many of the trickster stories and even trickster characters he admired were associated with or were themselves fae. Making a face at the distinctive outlines, he took something out of his pocket and tossed it into the center of the spiral.
"Take that, you thieving mischief-makers," he declared.

Twilight Snow Fairies
From her hiding place in the bushes, laying on her belly, Lore had started to grow bored and was lazily drawing patterns in dirt. The light outside was growing dim and most of the other students that were out and about had started making their way back to the castle.
Her cheeks were tinged with pink from the cold and her hood had fallen back onto her shoulders, exposing her creamy blonde tresses. She huffed indignantly, looking around with her bright sapphire eyes, surveying the scene.
Well, I suppose no one's coming...this was a waste of time.
Right as the thought crossed her mind, she heard a voice.
"Is this some new definition of the term, 'fairy ring'?"
Her gaze snapped up to an approaching figure. As he came closer and stepped up to the circle, she took in his appearance. It looked to be another first year, a boy, judging by what she could make out from the silhouette. She smirked to herself as he threw something into the center of the circle of snow fairies.
"Take that, you thieving mischief-makers," he declared.
Her hands shot up to cover her mouth to keep from laughing. After a beat, she came to her senses and steeled herself, preparing for phase two of her strange prank.
"WHOOOOOO DARES TO DISTURBBBBBB THE ANNNNCIENNNNT ONNNNNNESSSSS?????" she called out, making her voice sound deep and mournful, not unlike a banshee.

"Tch! Like I'm stupid enough to give you my true name," the boy scoffed, starting to grin at the response he got. Though he suspected he may not have been dealing with entirely 'otherworldly' beings, it seemed amusing enough to try to play along right then. "What do you mean by 'ancient ones', anyway? Just how ancient are you? Can't be very if you're making imprints in freshly-fallen snow. And I mean really fresh - too fresh to even make snowballs."(@Lore Solaris No reason to be sorry! Real life always comes first! And yeah, holidays especially seem to slow internet activity down. XD Gotta spend time with people.)
Tilting his head, he asked the 'disembodied' voice, "But hypothetically speaking...when you say 'ancient ones', are we talking demons? Angels? Fae?" Glancing back down at the object he had thrown into the center of the snow fairy formation, he continued, "Is it true what they say about fae being fallen angels, but not having fallen so far as demons because they didn't have as much sin to weigh them down?"
Crouching down beside Lore's creation, he was reminded of something. "This is almost like those pentacles they use to summon demons too, though. I wonder if fairy rings and demon pentacles are related somehow. Wouldn't put it past them, with fae and demons so closely related in so many contexts. Silly people trying to demonize nature spirits like fae when the worst demons are humankind themselves..."

Lore had to shove her scarf into her mouth to keep from laughing. This crazy kid seemed to be buying whatever wild story she'd begun to spin. Part of her was worried she'd maybe taken it a little too far at this point, but the other part pushed her to keep the charade going, just to see how long she'd be able to pretend she was some ancient fae spirit.
"I...uh....I AM SO ANCIENT....like....REALLY ANCIENT AND ALSO VERY POWERFUL AND...." she choked on her words, unable to keep a straight face. Fully allowing herself to laugh now, she army-crawled out from under the bushes and stumbled to her feet, dusting herself off.
"I'm sorry mate, I can't keep it up. You really got deep there at the end with all that talk of angels and demons and the like. I don't think I've ever read anything about fae being connected to angels, but I'm not well versed on the subject matter. That is an interesting topic of conversation though, the relationship between fairy rings and summoning circles for demons. I'd bet 5 galleons (if I had any) that those types of books are located in the restricted section."
She shook her head, giggled and walked over to him, holding out her hand.
"I dunno about humankind being all bad but for what it's worth, my name's Lore...Lore Solaris. I guess my snow fae were impressive enough to get your goat, eh?"

Tilting his head at the girl who crawled out from under some nearby bushes, Jack smirked and shook his head, planting a fist on his hip. "Why even bother trying to pretend to be someone if you know nothing about them?" he asked, his words sounding disappointed despite his playful sneer. "And here I'd hoped you would have been able to keep up the charade up a little longer."@Lore Solaris
He dragged his boot across the spiral, as if to disrupt any magical properties it might have actually had, before bending down to retrieve what he had thrown in the center. Placing it back in his pocket, he looked at the hand offered to him for a little while before shrugging and finally deciding to shake it.
"Not a chance," he answered with a crooked grin, crossing his arms after. "Nice try, Solaris, but you're going to have to do better than that to fool Jack Burnett. Fae are too fond of themselves to just grant others the ultimate delight of seeing them - even if only as impressions in the snow." His mouth twisted a moment in thought. "Well, the Fae I know, anyway. In muggle tales. No idea what wizards and witches think of them."
Regarding the girl a moment longer, the Slytherin's demeanor switched to something slightly more serious. "And just so you know...all the Fae I've heard of are spiteful little gits who don't take kindly to others impersonating them. So watch yourself, because they might actually come after you for that stunt you just pulled."
