A Whompin' Good Time
Boredom and Sean Dornan never did mix well. It had a tendency to drive the boy into committing radical acts of shenanigans....shenanigans which more often than not landed the little Irish brat into trouble. If not him, his friends or parents. The little rascal never seemed to think much further beyond his most immediate needs. Foresite and consequence was something alien to Sean. It really was a stroke of luck that as much as Sean managed to get into trouble, he also managed to get himself right back out...along with any other poor soul he managed to drag into his troubles. Perhaps Mr. Ollivander was on to something when he described Sean's wand as being attracted to wizards who were naturally lucky.
Today's boredom led Sean out into the grounds...in particular, it led him to a Hogwarts phenomenon called "The Whomping Willow". Sean was just as familiar with the history of the Whomping Willow as any other student should be. It did play a pretty vital part in the legend of Harry Potter, after all. Of course a young, 11-year-old lad was going to be interested! After all, Sean planned merely to observe the tree for awhile. He would never dream of doing anything that could potentially damage this priceless specimen of rare foliage. Boredom continued to tick at the back of his brain.
"It doesn't DO anything!" Sean thought to himself, "Some special tree. I thought it was supposed to move."
Not one to give up easily, Sean thought that perhaps he needed to just get a bit closer. Hands shoved firmly into his pockets, glancing about for any potential observers of his dastardly acts, Sean shuffled a few more steps towards the tree. Still nothing.
"MOVE, TREE!" Sean hollared, flapping his hands in the air and taking one more step towards the lone, non-moving, over-sized twig.
There was a sudden whooshing sound as something suddenly moved above Sean's head....something BIG. Sean barely had time to look up before he was knocked completely flat. He landed on his back...hard...and felt all the air rush from his lungs. There was a burning, searing pain across his right cheek, and though Sean mentally ordered his body to move, it simply couldn't. All air had been knocked from his body, and there he lay...frozen...watching wide-eyed as another branch of the whomping willow rushed towards his prone body.

A Whompin' Good Time
Raine was never one to stay inside for long so it wasn't surprising that she had found her way out of the Hufflepuff Common Room, out of the castle, and on to the grounds that surrounded the castle. Being inside seemed to make her flustered inside and she couldn't keep still. She stopped in her steps and looked around trying to decide where she wanted to go. She thought about going to the Herbology garden to be around the plants there but, her eyes flickered over the Forbidden Forest. A smirk formed on her face and she began to propel herself toward the forest.
The petite girl was never one to get into trouble or go anywhere she wasn't supposed to. Some would describe her as a goody two shoes because she always did what she was asked. As she headed toward the forest her heart began to pound her in chest. Raine had heard stories of the Forbidden Forest and the creatures that may reside in there. One day she wanted to go in and explore it to see the creatures for herself. Her love of Magical Creatures drew her in and one day she vowed to cross the border to the forest and explore.
Raine had exited the front doors of the castle and headed toward the Forest where she wanted to roam looking at the the flowers and plant life that covered the edge of it. As she walked she glanced over her shoulder noticing the greenhouses and for a moment she almost turned and played by the rules and went there instead. It was only a moment that crossed her mind but, she shook the thought away and continued on her path to the forest. She was now closer to the majestic Whomping Willow that sprung to life and attacked anyone trying to get near it. She was always interested in the tree but knew to steer clear of it because she knew it would probably kill her.
She shook her head thinking of the thought, no way she'd ever approach it. She made her way past it making sure to keep adequate distance so as not to trigger an attack. She was half way to the forest edge when she heard it. Move, Tree! Someone was taunting the tree, she was sure of it. She turned on her heel looking for the culprit when suddenly she heard the booming sound of the trees limb crashing toward the ground. "Oh that kid has gone and angered the tree!" She muttered slightly heated.
Raine jogged back over to the tree looking for the offender. She glanced around quickly then finally saw a boy laying on the the ground about to be hit again by the Whomping Willows limb. She moved her body quicker now that she saw the boy. She was to far to reach him in time but she hoped her voice would travel through the air to reach him. "DODGE THE ATTACK!" She yelled as loud as she could, "ROLL!" She cupped her hands around her mouth trying to make her command louder so the student would hear her. She was almost there now but, she knew she wouldn't make it in time to help him. She hoped he wasn't in shock to much and could move his body.

A Whompin' Good Time
Sean needed to move fast if we was going to avoid getting his clock cleaned by this gigantic, violant twisting of limbs on a trunk. He could vaguely hear shouting behind him, but it sounded too far away to be of any immediate help.
As the limb closed in, Sean called upon any shread of strength he had left in his body...which wasn't much. Sean relied on his cleverness and quick wit, not muscle.
"Roll!" he heard a voice cry out.
Good a' plan as any....
Using all the strength he could muster, Sean threw his right arm out while simultaneously lifting himself up on his left elbow. He managed to roll onto his stomach, and heard the branch thump harmlessly into the ground beside him. It was so close, that his hair was ruffled by the passing force. The movement seemed to be all it took for blessed air to rush into Sean's screaming lungs, and he managed to get his feet underneath him as he scrambled away from the willow, until he was hopefully out of range of its punishing branches.
Sean turned to look back at the tree, and found that it had gone completely still again. Fascinated. Remembering the voice, Sean turned again, looking for the source....and there it was. There was a girl who looked be around his age running toward him.
"Great," Sean thought to himself, "That's all I needed. To look so uncool in front of a girl."
Sean raised his hand in greeting, a sheepish grin crossing his face. The act of smiling pulled at some of the muscles on Sean's face, and he that burning feeling he had felt across his cheek earlier returned. He raised his hand to his cheek and pressed, wincing. There was a small smear of blood on the palm of his hand as he withdrew it from the wound. There must be one hell of a welt across his face.
"Stupid tree," Sean muttered.

A Whompin' Good Time
Raine saw that the boy moved his body just in time to not get struck again and let out a satisfied sigh as she slowed her run to a walk as she got closer to him. She knew he had to be in pain after being struck by the tree, Raine had heard that the tree doesn't lessen its blow for anyone. As she got closer to him she saw that his face had a cut on it, "Ouch" she thought as she looked over his body looking for more injuries. She couldn't see any from the distance but, she knew there could be unseen injuries as well.
She noticed his hand come up in a greeting, waving at her and she did the same back. She was now close enough that she could talk to him without screaming like a banshee. "Hey" Raine said dropping her hand back to her side. "Are you okay? That couldn't have felt good." Her head shook in disapproval. Now that she was closer she was able to see his face more clearly and she could see that the cut she saw from a distance was bigger than she thought. His face was swollen so much on the side his hand had left just moments ago.

Sean grinned, wincing a little as the cut on his cheek twinged. He shrugged one shoulder in a dismissive manner and waved one hand towards the tree in a careless manner.
" 'Course I'm okay!" he replied with laughter in his voice, "Just a stupid 'ol tree, innit? I coulda dodged had it not taken me by surprise....but now that I know how close you hafta be to trigger it...."
Sean trailed off as his eyes studied the swaying branches of the willow, serene and gentle right now, but ready to spring into action should any wander too close to its trembling boughs. Sean saw this as a challenge. He wasn't about to be embarrassed by some old tree! Especially in front of a girl!
Flashing Raine a quick wink, Sean leaped back towards the tree, his every sense "listening" for the tree to come at him.
"Watch this!" he cried, "Betcha I can touch the trunk!"
This time, Sean knew when the tree would move, and it watched its branches carefully. He ducked the first blow aimed his way, though the branch was close enough to ruffle his untidy hair. Sean then twisted to his left as another branch came shooting straight at him, immediately jumping into the air to avoid one swinging towards his knees. All the while, he made his way closer to the trunk...but the closer he was, the more furiously the branches came at him.
"Almost there!" Sean thought to himself, stretching his fingers earnestly towards the whipping willow's trunk.
Just as he thought he would touch, one of the willow's branches finally connected, slamming into his torso, throwing him away from his goal. Sean flew back, dirt billowed around him as he landed butt-first outside the tree's reach. He rolled, heels over head, for a few feet before finally stopping and springing to his feet.
"Aw, almost had it!" Sean moaned.
He gazed towards Raine, eyes twinkling merrily as he laughed. He must have looked like a right git.

A Whompin' Good Time
Raine couldn't believe this kid was still trying to touch the Whomping Willow after being struck down so easily the first time. His sentence trailed off as he said he knew how close to get and she shook her head seemingly to read his mind. She was hoping he wouldn't try such a stupid thing again but shortly after his eyes strayed away from her and back to the tree she heard him say, "Watch this." Raine groaned as the boy went back within reach of the tree. "What are you doing!" She yelled but, it was no use, he was gone and back below the branches dodging its swing attacks.
He dodged the first few easily enough, he was probably expecting it, she thought. She cringed every time the tree slammed a branch toward his feeble body. But he slowly got closer to the tree and for a brief moment she thought he was actually going to make it to the base of the tree. She smiled a small smile at the thought of someone so young making it to the tree, it seemed impossible.
She didn't even see the attack coming because her eyes were so focused on watching the boy, and holding her breath. Suddenly the boy was flying through the air and she gasped as he landed. "At least it threw up out of reach this time so you didn't get hit twice in one go again." She sighed and started over to where the boy landed.
"You were so close!" Raine said cheerfully, his incessant laughter probably rubbing off on her. "I'm Raine, by the way." She told him once she didn't have to raise her voice anymore, smiling.
