Lock-in
Welcome to the Lock-in Event Thread. This is a shared group adventure between Griffindor and Hufflepuff. This thread will require heavy moderation and will abide by the 200 words per post standard. You will need to clearly state what you do, what your actions are and where you go as you take part in this adventure because what you do, where you go, who you talk to and even what you touch will be very relevant in this thread.
Today is the opening day. I will be posting twice today, once now obviously and again in a few hours. I have placed a warm-up logic riddle in this thread, if you are quick witted and nearly as fast a poster, then feel free to answer it. These adventures are for you, the students to shine. However, if the answer has not spawned by the time I post again, I will supply the answer to this riddle along with more thread information as well as the meat of the adventure.

The grounds were peaceful, serene even despite the charred remains of what should have been the Hufflepuff Campout several weeks earlier over the horizon. Now, a charred field filled with the skeletons of trees that loomed in the distance, a baleful reminder of the near tragedy that had so recently passed. They were not going to return to that blackened wood, it was too dangerous out there Solomon would claim as they stayed near the main building's perimeter. He had frequently warned the students of the dangers of muggle devices and the wooded areas that surrounded Hogwarts, often referencing the Campout as a sobering reminder that muggles and their devices should be avoided at any cost. That they should respond to muggles devices with apprehension, suspicion and fear. That they should not be alone, that safety comes in numbers. That was the lesson learned from the light, to huddle together and that they would be strong as long as they were together. It was the heroes that ventured on their own, the slow and the careless that took their time returning and the unfortunate that could not get back in time that suffered the most.
A footpath marked by sandy earth bereft of grass would lead the group to a staircase near the main building of Hogwarts. Another way inside Solomon would simply explain. He had intended to take the class to the dungeons, a massive catacomb-like network that snakes beneath the Hogwarts building but the entrance in the basement was locked tight. Likely to keep the children from exploring unaccompanied despite the fact that there was nothing dangerous in these tunnels nor has there been in a number of years. He was not one to complain about this of course, it would make him into a hypocrite if he were to insist on unlocking those gates whilst advocating Hogwart's shut-down due to safety concerns.
It did not matter, he was a veteran of this academy, he knew the landscape better than most. There was another way inside. It was far from a secret entrance, more of a forgotten entrance that brought travelers to only a small portion of Hogwarts underbelly but with small legs, curious minds and little fingers it would be more than big enough Solomon had reasoned. It would serve as a good distraction, an opportunity for the children to recover mentally from traumatic experiences their bodies have mostly recovered from. It was also a chance for him to try to convince Professor Cazarez to side with him. They agreed on next to nothing, but the evacuation of Hogwarts is something that he was not willing to budge on much like the other faculty members were not willing to relent to his 'foolish' and 'unnecessary' demands.
He would look back to ensure that he was being followed by a procession of students. He would remain on edge until that criminal was caught, taken from Hogwarts and brought to justice. Just a little further he would remind them with a smile, the burden of what some carried was great and some were likely huffing at this point but respite was in sight. About two flights of stairs made of an ear-colored stone cut into the earth. At the bottom of the stairwell was a door, it appeared simple enough made of a dark, aged wood with brass hinges that resembled vines and a plain brass knob. The frame over the door was unusual, he did not recall the devil's gaze from above that seemed to follow them as they descended the stair.

It looked as if it was newer than the rest but that was not possible, it had to of been there for years. It was simply his mind playing tricks on him in his 'old age.' He would have thought that this should have been the 'middle' of his life but he was starting to realize that this was likely nearing the end of his span. He would reach for the knob and as he done so the face from about would shout "Stop!" in a booming, demanding voice. Solomon's hand would move no longer.
"If I lie, you will not be able to pass," the door warned.
This was new or Solomon had finally reached that point in his life where his memory was so bad that he could hide his own Easter Eggs. "And what happens if you do and we try?" Solomon inquired.
"You die."

Lock-in
It seemed she had no choice but to attend this event - not that she didn't want to. It was just that she'd heard of the events that had taken place during the Gryffindor campout, and therefore was afraid for her own wellbeing. What if the same thing that happened to the Hufflepuffs would happen to her? She'd already been burned once, she didn't want to be burned again.
Sighing, Rhea got dressed in what she thought was the proper attire for this 'lock-in' and brought the needed materials. Simple jeans and a t-shirt under her mandatory robes, before she packed her secondary pair into the purse-like bag she'd brought with her. Of course, she brought her wand with her--what kind of witch would she be if she didn't?--and some food. As much food as she could pile into the small bag, without breaking it or her back. Once she deemed herself ready, Rhea left the dorm room, much earlier than the rest of the witches there had. She knew that she probably should've waited for some, at least Eris or Sabrina, but she was much too excited to begin. The young Bishop had never done something like this-what was called? A sleepover? Yes, she'd never even heard of them prior to this day. It was only when her friend explained it to her--you sleep over at a friend's house--that she finally understood. The name was clearly a play on words, too, which was something Rhea could always appreciate.
Of course, due to how early she'd left, the redhead found herself at the front of the trope of first years that were piling out of the castle and towards the grounds. Due to this, she was able to get an advantage on those before her and see everything clearer, without the barrier of first year heads blocking her. As she walked, Rhea took in all the different views that were presented to her. First, something black and burned, resembling dust and charcoal like Spiderman which she deemed to be the remains of the infamous Hufflepuff campout. Nodding, her brain taking in the view and any clues then storing them until further notice, she kept on moving. Soon, they reached a staircase, seemingly built into the ground.
Following the Hufflepuff Head of House, Rhea surged ahead and listened carefully to both Lear and the door's words. Furrowing her eyebrows in confusion, Rhea wondered what the door meant. "If I lie, you will not be able to pass." What in the world could that possibly mean? What did the door have to lie about? Biting her lip, Rhea focused on everything that had been told to her about this lock-in. Both Professor Sebastian and Professor Lear had stressed that muggle devices could not be brought. That could either be a case of reverse psychology or them telling the truth. Thinking it through thoroughly, Rhea came to the conclusion that as this was a wizarding school, magic had to play some sort of role in this adventure.
Pulling out her wand, Rhea crept closer to the door and cast a look at the professor. Shrugging, she decided to go ahead with her plan. There needed to be some sort of code, or perhaps something hidden that could discovered with magic. Closing her eyes and rewinding as far back as she could, digging through all her memories, Rhea stopped on one particular one. One, where she and her aunt Siobhan would engage in puzzle; where Rhea and Siobhan would go around ruins, looking for ancient writings. The way they would find writings would be using Siobhan's wand - which was lit up with the spell "Lumos," the Wand-Lighting Charm. Rhea remembered how simply casting the spell and placing the light over a specific section of caves and whatnot would reveal the hidden writings to them. Thinking that perhaps this would be the same case, Rhea prepared to do the same thing. As she did, another kid--a boy, Gryffindor, who looked vaguely familiar--walked up as well and prepared to cast Lumos. It seemed the two were thinking along the same paths. Perhaps the combination of their magic would be the answer to the riddle that the redhead so deeply ached to discover.
"Lumos!" Rhea whispered, and waved her wand over the entirety of the door, thanking herself for her slightly above average heigh (in truth, her height was average for an 11 year old, but everyone at Hogwarts seemed to be as short as a midget).

the trouble is, if you don't risk anything -- you risk more.

Lock-in
They had been told to bring only essentials such as sleeping bags, some snacks, their wand (obviously) and extra robes. These entailed that they would be out for some time, and that where they were going would be treacherous and filled with muck and grime, hence the change of robes. Snacks and a sleeping bag meant they would be on this little adventure for some time, a fact which Dorian didn't mind in the least. No toys or joke items, though why that needed to be specified was anyone's guess, but the specific deterrent against Muggle devices was strange. Dorian didn't give it any thought, however, and was ready for the journey, having packed a few casual clothing in the mix, because robes were not very effective wear when one needed to escape.
The day had come, and they were currently being led by the the Head of Hufflepuff House Professor Lear, and their own Head of House Professor Cazarez was there as well, assumably, but whether he was bringing up the rear of the group was unknown. They all followed the path behind the professor and eventually reached a set of stairs leading back into the large castle, though from a section that Dorian had not yet seen, not even once in his various night adventures. The strangest thing about it all was the door that barred their entry. There was a stony face with haggard lines from what looked like a permanent scowl staring down at them, as if daring them to try something. This was new, but it intrigued the boy beyond reason.
Dorian jumped at the sudden, booming voice, never once taking his eyes off the face above the door. It words were cryptic, especially in retort to the professor's question, but Dorian wasted no time in trying to figure a way through, even though he was sure the professor would most likely know whatever password was necessary. There were small tidbits of seemingly random strings of words that the Hufflepuff professor had been saying to them on the way here, and Dorian tried piecing it together in some way that would offer some level of clarity. Their list of spells were limited, but of the few he knew he figured the only ones that might stand a chance were Flipendo or Incendio. But something told him otherwise. It might not do to burn down a door with a magical talking face looking down at you. Actually, no physically harmful effort seemed feasible in the least.
The idea that came to him was ridiculous, but he felt there was no harm in trying anyway. As far as the spells he knew worked, this was the only one that might have any effect in this case. He stepped forward, around the same time that their house Prefect Rhea Bishop did, and he wondered if she might have had the same thought that he did. There was only one way to find out. Conscious of the face still staring at him, Dorian held his wand tightly in his hand and aimed at the door. "Lumos." He had recently learned the spell, and its effects were simple in nature. His aim was to have the soft witch light illuminate and chase away the shadows around the door, hopefully revealing something that they might have all missed.

Lock-in
Settle into this room, unroll your sleeping bag, grab a snack. You are going to be in here for the night.
Unpacking and greeting your classmates is a free action so do that to your heart's content. After that feel free to explore the twisting paths that make up this labyrinth. You have three options:This map is pretty massive and I will be keeping track of where you are located on the map. You are able to move 10 squares (50 feet) in a single turn by walking. You can also move up to 15 squares (75 feet) by running but you will be running into areas that you cannot see so you will need to account for that because I will be randomizing which direction you go if you do not define this.
- To the right [East].
- To the left [West].
- Straight down [South].
You will be able to cast any spell that you know [you gain spells by completing classes and getting them graded], but you are only able to cast one spell per round of posting. I strongly recommend casting a spell that can provide you with a light source to start. Only this room as far as you are aware is lit, each of those paths appears to be as black as tar meaning that you will need to either partner up with someone that has successfully cast a spell to light the way or you can try to find your way in the dark... alone...
You will be able to perform a two physical actions per round of posting. A physical action would include picking something up, pressing a button, digging for something, etc.
You will be able to see about 30 feet [6 squares] around you if you cast the Lumos charm, a critical success (that would be a natural 20) you will be able to see 40 feet [8 squares], granting you a distinct advantage.
These tunnels range from 20 feet wide and 10 feet wide. You will be considered to be walking down the center or the right automatically unless you specifically define otherwise. Because you can in theory move further than you can see... there is a potential risk in just blindly running through the cave.
What do I want from you?
1.) Your Quidditch Stats. Please post them in each of your adventure posts or have them in your signature so that I can reference them without having to look them up. It is your responsibility that you do not exceed your stat allotment if you have not created your Quidditch stats before. It is my expectation that you can add so please double check yourself.
2.) That you clearly state where you are going, if you fail to do that I will make the decision for you. I will always use grids such as the one above and try to clearly display where you are located in a way that you can recognize.
3.) That you post at least once per week. If you do not post, that means that you have not moved or done anything. If you miss a week of posting, it does not mean that the next time you post that you get 2 weeks (or more) worth of actions. You only get that week.
4.) I expect you to be polite to your peers and be respectful towards the moderators. There is a difference between having an opinion and disrespecting your moderator(s) [in this case myself and Sebastian] and your peers [every other user in this thread or the threads associated with this main thread]. I will remove players that treat other users poorly from this adventure.
5.) That you remember that you can move 10-15 squares each round. That you can cast 1 spell per round. That speaking is a free action. As for a common question regarding being able to communicate with each other. A whisper can be heard up to 10 feet (2 squares) away. You can talk and be heard up to 30 feet away (6 squares). You can speak loudly and be heard 50 feet away (10 squares). You can scream and be heard 200 feet away (40 squares). A word to the wise, once you get far from the front room the Professors wont be able to hear you scream.
Two of the students seemed to have an idea. It was not a particularly bad idea. In fact, that answer might even end up being the answer to a future puzzle, sadly not this one however. All the same two brave reds would make their way to the door.
"Lumos!" Rhea exclaimed with a whisper.
.....Roll: 15 (Success)
"Lumos." Dorian would announce.
.....Roll: 11 (Success)
The tip of both of their wands would emit a cool glow and they would be able to look over the door and see something but it was far from the answer that they sought. Etched in a language that they did not know: A lost fah vodahmin. Whatever that might mean as Solomon would not recognize it either.
Alas, it did nothing more.
The door was patient and said not another word.
The warning declared by the door was indeed ominous: risk death if you choose wrong. It seemed like an unfathomable gamble. In fact it was. This was supposed to be a simple camp out lock in, nothing out of the ordinary. No tribulations or near-death experiences. The fear of muggles and the wood already instilled into his children's minds.
The door never claimed to be a liar, it did not have to. The statement it had already made was enough. The warning given had to either be a lie or the truth in the first place, Solomon's query a means towards veracity. That was exactly the point -- it did not matter if this final statement was the truth or a lie. If the door was lying, then no harm or at the very least no death would befall the person that traversed the threshold and anything short of death they could recover from and if the door was being truthful then this was their moment to pass if they dared to take it. Another such chance would not likely arise again. Still, it was a grand risk, truly a leap of faith. One that a wise and brave student could have taken, but none did even if some might have discovered the answer to the riddle or at the very least were conceptually close enough to learn the secret:
Reducio

Alas, the sorting hat was potentially wrong on this misplaced Ravenclaw that had the wit but not the courage to act on what he knew. Solomon, the enigma that he was would step forward, and the Raven would cry out in protest before it would fly away. Lear's hand would grip the knob of the door and in an act of either bravery or extreme stupidity he would yank the door towards himself. The door would open without resistance, the face overhead would laugh in a taunting manner.
"Hahahahahahahahahaha..."
Instinctively Solomon wanted to pull his hand away. What if he was wrong? Would such a dangerous hex be placed on a passageway? How would future goers know if the door was telling the truth or a lie? What if the door only chose to tell lies? This would be the only reliable means to know he reasoned. "You're neither a truth-teller or a liar door. You are just a door and the only time a door is not a door is when..." he grinned as he stepped through the threshold. He tensed as he did so, confident enough in his decision but there was that single thread of doubt that lingered in him. "it is ajar."
Now, that was a terrible pun. But he was hilarious and he knew it.
He had figured it out or perhaps he had remembered, it is hard to say but he was now safe on the other side. The children were free to enter unless they wanted to risk their well-being by asking the door another question, truly putting the door's veracity to the test. Perhaps the door could only threaten. Perhaps it could kill, he had seen stranger things, even here at Hogwarts. "Don't antagonize the door," Solomon concluded out loud once he was safely on the other side. He let out a cough, there was something wrong with his voice.

The space was dimply lit. Torches would of course illuminate this area, four of them in fact and from these dancing, flickering lights tall shadows would dance and sway on the walls. The cool, grey stone underfoot had some mossy growth nearest the door and down the center of the room This was of course mildly unusual considering the fact that this space was likely plunged into eternal night before the House Elves had brought these charmed torches to light their sleeping space.
Solomon would touch the moss, it was not old but he was hardly a botanist. Hmm... He carried on.

"Home sweet labyrinth!" Solomon announced. "Looks like the House Elves have already been through here," the Professor commented as he eyed the torches. They were securely fastened to the wall, they did a good job actually regarding them, better than he would have expected. They must be behind, he silently reasoned as he plopped his backpack onto the stone tiled floor. It was heavier than he had realized before he relieved himself of the burden. "Find a place to spread your bedroll and unpack, we will start the scavenger-hunt in 30 minutes. Looks like the House Elves are a little behind," Solomon announced as he spread out his earth-colored leather sleeping bag.
There would be time to set-up. The earliest ones to arrive would get the best places to roll out their sleeping bags of course but surely the stragglers would file in one after another and fill this great space with laughter and chatter.
Solomon's bag rattled as he unhooked a folding chair from the side of his bag. It was nothing exceptional but it was better than sitting on the ground. Set up was pretty quick for the Professor, although the same could not be said of everyone. Some would over-pack. Others were easily distracted, oh look a rock! Still others did not pack enough but thankfully they would not need much, it was just an overnight trip.
Solomon would retrieve a butter beer from his bag and pop the cap, offering the bottle of fire water to Professor Cazarez. "Here, it is gonna be a long night," Solomon smiled. Evenings always went better, if not a little faster with beer. His plan with the Professor was simple, chill him out (a lot) and try to convince him that the best course of action would be to get the kids out of here. Hopefully he had enough beer.

Eventually the students would have finished setting up their bedrolls, had started to socialize and perhaps even started to group-up in hopes that they would find the most hidden goodies. Solomon would strain his ears and would fail to hear the House Elves return. He could not see them either in that inky blackness. He would not say anything at first despite the fact that their absence or lack of communication vexed him but unfortunately House Elves were not particularly clever beings, that was why they remained at the station they were despite their proficiency in the use of magic. Shame really.
Had they already finished and left? He was not going to bother to ask. He knew that the treats had to be down here somewhere and they had enough time already. "They were supposed to report in," Solomon would mutter in complaint to nobody in particular but loud enough that Sebastian could overhear. "Should we delay it a little longer?" Solomon mused out loud.
Regardless of Sebastian's recommendation (keeping the story going so this does not drag for several posts) Solomon would be forced to act either in accord or defiance of Sebastian's recommendations. The students were not going to wait for long, they had the patience of well... eleven year old children. Solomon would not have been able to hold them off for long anyways. He would stand up, his knees creaked as he did so. Why did they creek? He was not that old!
"Students!" Solomon's booming voice demanded their attention. "May I have your attention please!" He would wait for the chatter to die down, he knew that it would not a perfect hush, it was an impossibility for children at that age. "You have been brought to a small portion of the catacombs that twist and wind beneath Hogwarts. This network of caves is quite large so do not get lost," he warned. "Your House Elves have spent the day preparing this space for a scavenger hunt." Admittedly he was a bit disappointed, it appears that they had lit the room but none of them had bothered to sweep the area. "There are a number of fun items hidden in the cavernous rooms adjacent and beyond," he continued to explain. "Neat trinkets and tidbits, some just cleverly hidden, some might take some skill to reach and still a few others might even have a puzzle attached." Indeed it was a mixture of luck, skill and cunning to test the children's mettle or to distract them long enough for Solomon to get Sebastian alone. Long enough for the Hufflepuff's paranoia and fear to hopefully spread. Solomon's apprehension regarding the theft grew with each passing day, eventually they would cross paths with the criminal and his or her stolen artifacts. Eventually a student would be in peril. Perhaps the entire student body. It was his duty to get them out of here or to prepare them for the worst. Departure would have been a kindness.

Lock-in
The Gryffindor girl had spent the afternoon sleeping in preparation for the events of the night to come. Unlike some of her classmates, Eris valued her sleep and knew that having a camp out with a lot of her friends would not grant her much time to sleep. So, being the good child that she was, Eris had returned to the common room after a few hours of reckless gallivanting around with her friends on the weekend, and promptly fell asleep in one of the red chairs by the common room fire.
She had been woken up, hours later, by her friends leaving the room and knew it was time to go. Vaguely aware of the disarray she was in, having wrinkled clothing and sleep-mused hair, Eris pulled on the red scarf Kaegen had given her and a jacket to compliment the shirt and jeans she was in. One never could be sure of how cold it would be a lock in. Poising her sleeping bag under her shoulder to carry, Eris scowled at the pink floral sleeping bag. Apparently, the pink sleeping bags were the only ones Rhea had left, and even worse, she had given Eris and Reid the worse ones.
Eris was stuck with a floral one that looked straight out of an insane grandmother's house, while Reid had been gifted a bright pink sleeping bag, adorned with sparkles so bright, it looked like Edward Cullen in the sunlight.
Even though she was well rested, a faint yawn escaped through Eris's lips, as she raced to catch up with her two friends who had already left. Wandering through the grounds was strange, staring at the charred trees and life that was still recovering after the blasted hufflepuff camp out.
Hopefully this event wouldn't be like the hufflepuff camp out.
Catching sight of the vibrant red hair of her friend and fellow chaser, Eris held the sleeping bag even tighter to her chest, and took off running through the destroyed grounds, trying to ignore the evidence of the fire that had just occured and simultaneously burned away the hufflepuff’s spirits, and half of the forest.
Shrugging away thoughts of matter what didn’t concern her, Eris forced a smile to her face. This wasn’t going to be like the campout, not if Eris and her friends were there. As long as Dorian, Max, and Eris were involved in something, no monsters or baddies would come around. Hell, monsters should be scared of Dorian, Eris, and Max. They’d punch you, no matter what you look like.
Musing as she walked, Eris’s smile didn’t leave her face. Maybe Reid would have some of that weird gum stuff, once he got there. Eris had shoved candy into her sleeping bag, refusing to admit it was the same candy she had recieved over Christmas Break. And, some of the candy was from the start of the year, when Avalon has so kindly bought out the whole snack cart for Eris and her other friends.
Reaching the door, to see it open and her friends with their wands light up, along with the grizzled head of hufflepuff. Eris nodded her head once at the old man, nerves preventing her from having a conversation with someone that could take house points away from her in seconds, if he felt like it.
Catching sight of another Gryffindor face, Eris waved at the taller boy, and linked arms with Dorian and Rhea. Letting go of them for a second, she stepped into the room and threw her bag on the floor.
”You all ready for this?
Listening to Lear's words, the girl's smile only grew. Oh, this was going to be fun. Eris and her friends were going to be the champions of this.

As this was his very first excursion with his house, John was likely one of the happiest of the Hufflepuffs out tonight. It had a lot to do with the fact that he was not present at the time when part of the grounds burned to ash. He was aware that something terrible happened, which actually reassured John that nothing would happen tonight. After all, the chances of two field trips in a row ending in tragedy were slim to none, unless someone was actively planning their demise.
Who would do that at a school?
Once the class entered the room, John made a beeline towards the southern end. He began unfolding his sleeping bag and claiming his spot. The bag itself was decorated with whales and dolphins printed all over the outside. Dressed for comfort, John was out of the uniform and adorned a plain blue t-shirt, khaki shorts that reached his knees, and tennis shoes for long walks. The only other item he brought with him was a jar of peanut butter. He had a few of them that he had brought from home, unsure if peanut butter was even a thing in the wizarding world. Unfortunately, that was all he brought: the boy neglected to bring a spoon along.
“Aw nuts,” John proclaimed, lamenting at his meager supplies. The only other item he could use to eat up the sticky snack was…his…wand. His eyes darted back and forth between jar and wand, contemplating the risks involved in sticking the wand in his mouth.
Ultimately, not even John was dumb enough to attempt that.
Professor Lear announced that there was a scavenger hunt throughout the catacombs. He hinted at “neat trinkets and tidbits”. Needless to say, John was excited. Neat trinkets and tidbits were what he lived for! He only hoped that they would be able to keep what they found. The only issue was entering the dark passageways. He had yet to master the Lumos spell so expertly cast by other students earlier in the quest. They still had all night; John wondered if he could learn the spell quickly enough by then.
“LAMPPOST!” John shouted, waving his wand. Obviously, no light emerged from the tip.
It was going to be a long night.

After the whole... door, uh, thing, whatever that was, Ami slid into the front room silently without a sound. Just even seeing the other Gryffindors that would be with them made her want to puke, but she managed to hide it all beneath a stony expression. She followed her Head of House's instructions of finding space for herself, and after Dorian had chosen the general area of where he and his friends were staying, including that tiny redhead who seemed oddly familiar, she promptly crossed the room to the other side, laying out her simple blanket and pillow, dropping her bag next to it. Yes, this would certainly be enough for the night. In the corner, dark and gloomy, away from everyone else. Perfection. She couldn't have asked for anything better.
The scavenger hunt thing seemed fun. Her knowledge of spells was... well, frankly, it was a little shaky, but it would be alright. She wasn't necessarily here for the prizes, the glory, or the fame. No, she was here for an adventure, to learn new things... to explore her mom's alma mater. She'd be alright, even without an in-depth knowledge of spells, after all, she had her...
Wait. Frantically, Ami reached for where she normally kept her knife, and nearly screamed. She's left it with her other shorts, and it was now back at her dorm, completely and utterly useless. Great, just great. This day was just absolutely perfect, wasn't it? Her hands clenching into fists, her nails digging into her palm, she leaned against her little corner, her nook, awaiting further instructions. What now?

Howie finished getting dressed, wearing his khaki cargo pants, a dark green, fitted sweater, hiking boots and a flat cap. He had packed his robes in case the Professors demanded it. Howie double checked his rucksack as he made the final preparations for the lock in. Slinging the pack over his shoulder he gazed around the common room one last time, hoping to see the red curls he was looking for. Grabbing his pen he scribbled out a note and asked one of the girls to pen it on the door of Rosie’s dorm.
Rosie, I’m heading out early to the lock in. I’ll save you a spot. See you soon!
Howie
Howie thanked the young witch and threw the pen across the room. No muggle stuff! Though he had packed his father’s knife, but witches and wizards used knives. He silently prayed it would be ok.
Howie made his way up from the basement and out of the large oak doors onto the grounds. Following Professor Lear’s instructions he made his way down the earthy foot path to where the others were gathered. Howie arrived just in time to see Lear and the other students examining and shining their wands on an ancient and wild looking door. His heart rate quickened as he heard a voice come from the door itself! Was Professor Lear talking to a door?! This place is crazy! He thought to himself, still taken aback slightly when he encountered magic.
Professor Lear called back, warning them to not antagonize the door. Howie suddenly very much missed normal doors, as a sense of dread filled him. Hesitantly, he approached the door, turning sideways and inching through the pass, keeping himself as far away from it as possible. The room was lit by torch, another thing he was still becoming accustom to. All this magic and enchantments, but still torches! What he wouldn’t give for a dang light switch. He kept his thoughts to himself though, Professor Lear almost seemed to hate muggle stuff.
Howie looked around the room, which was cool and made completely of stone, it smelled ancient, much like the rest of Hogwarts. He spotted a few students that he didn’t recognize, they must be the Gryffindors. Hopefully this would be a chance to make some new friends as he never gave much thought to the competition between houses. All a bit silly in his mind. As he passed them he waved and called out in greeting. “Hey guys!”
Howie made his way to the middle of the room and stood near the Head of House’s. “Professors.” He greeted them with a respectful nod of his head, and listened closely as Lear told them to unpack and get ready, for they would be starting soon. Making his way deeper into the room he spotted John, who was already in his sleeping bag and muttering random words as he flicked his wand around. “Hey” He called out to him as he passed. Howie’s gaze continued off to the corner, finally spotting a familiar face, Ami!
Making his way over to the corner in which she sat he called out to her. “Ami! Hiding in corners again I see. I believe I will force you to socialize once again!” He threw down his rucksack next to her and pulled out his sleeping bag. It was an old, tattered camouflage bag his family had picked up at the surplus store back home. Sure, it was a bit used but very well made, and would serve him well for the night ahead. He rolled it out and sat down, laying his rucksack next to him to save a spot for Rosie. Reaching into his bag he withdrew some jerky and began to munch. Tearing off a piece he turned to Ami. “Want some?” Holding it out in her direction.
Action: Enters room and greets the Gryffindor students. Listens to the Professor, greets John and then takes up a spot in the corner with Ami, saving a space next to him for Rosie Turner.

Lock-in
I was wandering through the door, right behind Professor, whom I saw the first time in my time of attending this school. Well I did saw him, when he had been at the Head Table in the Great Hall, but that was it, never had I exchanged words with him and I must admit, that he even seemed a little bit scary, but I let go of that thought quickly as it was replaced with amazement when the old looking man with grey hair solved the riddle of the door, seemingly without a problem.
When he just opened the door without any fear, my breath hitched, while pictures of him falling to the ground, dead were rushing through my mind. I had a similar thought of simply walking through the door, but had simply not the courage to do so in the end.
Within the room, we began unpacking our things. I rolled out my emerald green sleeping bag, that I got from my mother and father and placed my two plushed animals onto it.
Looking around the room, I noticed four torches, each one were fastened against the wall with a holder. When it came to wandering around, it would probably be a smart idea to take one of them with me, as so far I was incapable of the charm to produce light.
Finally finished with setting up my space, I took a look at the students around me, seeing two girls an a boy I bit my lips. They were from my house and I think I even saw them in the common room once or twice. Would they mind if I speak to them?

Rosie followed behind everyone else, a slight skip in her step from the excitement. She had heard the Hufflepuff camp out went... Bad, but this could be better, right? Afterall, they had the Gryffindors now. Not that they made the Hufflepuffs better, they were great on their own, but Rosie had never done an actual event when they collaborated with another house. Besides, Gryffindor held some of her closest friends! She scoped around for them as they entered the big spooky room. Rosie felt a little intimidated, but she wasn't going to say that. She was a strong, independent, 11 year old who really needed her friends oh my god where did they go-.
She calmed down a bit and entered the room, grabbing her sleeping bag from her back and putting it down. Thankfully, she started to hear familiar voices. Rosie turned, her brown curly hair slapping her face on accident, and she moved it away to see a few familiar Gryffindor kiddos talking by the sleeping bags and other torches. She got up and grinned, walking over to the group. "What's up guys?" She greeted softly, standing behind them. There was a face she didn't recognize, though. The boy. Rosie figured Eris or Rhea would say something about it. She hoped they didn't think she was intruding, or something. A group of Gryffindors and then one little Hufflepuff. Oh well, they were friends, right?
