Field Day | Apple Bobbing
APPLE BOBBING
Oh... this one was gonna be fun.competitors:
@Miranda Everest, @Callie Jensen, @Henry Knight, @Zykeal Lane, @May Moonstar, @Søren Silverwood, @Lucille Williams
She had to admit, Ami had never been the biggest fan of this particular event growing up. It had always been a stall available at her elementary school fairs, but she'd never one to participate. She simply couldn't throw away the few scraps that were left of her dignity to go fishing with her noggin. However, watching other people dunk their faces into a pool of water to try and grab some apples with her teeth? That, she could get behind. So it was with a gleeful smirk that she greeted each of the competitors, pleased that she actually recognized a few friendly faces. Well, she'd "accidentally" shoulder-checked Silverwood into oblivion last year, but that was in the past. Hopefully, he wouldn't hold a grudge.
"Hello, everyone," she called out to the group standing before her, surveying them all with a piercing glare. The stern and cruel facade was suddenly broken with a wide grin accompanied by a hearty laugh, however, as she exclaimed, "And welcome to your field day event! Today, I get to stand back and watch you all go... fishing!" With a dramatic sweep of her arm, Ami gestured to the pool of water with a good number of apples floating about. "I know, it's gonna be a lot more fun for me than it is for you suckers. I think the rules are pretty clear though, yeah? No hands! You can lean against the side of the tub-or, er, pool, or whatever-so you don't fall in, but you must retrieve the apples with your mouth, and only your mouth. No magic! But, of course... there's a twist."
Of course there was a twist. There was always a twist! "Some of the apples are rotten!" Ami cried aloud, clearly pleased with herself. "But once you pick an apple out of the water, it is yours. Good apples will be worth two points each, but rotten apples will take away a point. You will have 5 minutes to get as many points as possible. Any questions? No? Great. Get bobbing!"
OOC Notes
- This event will last for 6 rounds. The prizes for the top three people are as follows (from first to third): 3 galleons and 15 chocolate frogs, 3 galleons and 10 chocolate frogs, 10 chocolate frogs.
- You may choose between two different actions each round: Bob or Kick.
======
- If you choose to BOB, you will bob for an apple like normal. I will roll for success in locating an apple (accuracy [DC 10]) and lifting it out of the water (strength [DC 9]). Then, I will roll a d100 to see if you get a rotten apple ([DC >10]).
- If you choose to KICK, you will forgo a turn and attempt to kick someone (please specify who). I will roll for accuracy against your target's evasion, and then roll for damage against their stamina to see if it affects their performance. Field Day | Apple Bobbing
Open to interactions
Mentioning and interacting everyone basically
Henry didn't know why he signed up for the field day but regardless he did and it was probably because he needed a distraction. A distraction from his problems and worries, and at the time the field day seemed like a perfect event but like I said at the time. Now that it was here, Henry was having second thoughts as he maneuvered his way through others years while occasionally smiling a quick hello at them, he always has been great at hiding his feelings and emotions from others. When Henry saw where he had to go, the apple bobbing event, he started to make his way there with fixed feelings and thoughts spiraling around the twelve year gold's head.
Henry was surprised to see so many people that he recognized there, he wasn't sure if that was a good or bad thing as he kept on a blank face and hid his emotions and feelings. He finally made it to the event where he saw a older girl by two years maybe with fire like red head and chocolate eyes, as Henry got closer he saw that she also was covered with freckles. Henry listened to her explain the rules and now was really worried as he looked around at the others, while the second year was intelligent and a geek that didn't mean he was strong in fact he probably didn't have any strength at all. Now that he remembered that time during Logan's birthday he tried to use a knifing to smooth out a tree trunk, well it came out mice as well as he almost sliced his hand off.
Henry couldn't help but look around and saw that he knew almost everyone there, by everyone he meant half as he spotted his friend Miranda Everest whom Henry met last year then saw Zykeal Lane who Henry met at a Dublin meet up during the summer and finally Callie, who Henry met by the lake and sort of made the mistake of calling her hyper but again he wasn't good at or great at social interactions, not yet anyway. The other three looked familiar and he probably saw them in class but that must have been it since he couldn't recall a name or a place where he could have met with the others.
However as Henry took a place at a tub he still gave each of the second years a smile as he spoke " hey, uh good luck everyone I guess," Henry looked down at the apples merely floating around and could feel the panic rising in him but luckily he was able to hide all his emotions and worry from the others as he held his hand behind his back before bending down and plunging his face into the cool and refreshing water. Henry never did this before so he didn't exactly have any strategize yet so he kept his eyes tight closed as he felt around for a apple before he felt one in his mouth.
When the second year finally got hold of an apple which took a bit longer than expected, Henry popped his head out with the apple clutched in his mouth and eyes still close shut as he hoped that he actually got a apple and it wasn't rotted.

Field Day | Apple Bobbing
From the moment Callie found out about the possibility of a field day she had been entirely sold on the idea. In truth it was one of the things she missed about muggle schooling as nothing could quite beat the collective horror of sports day. Besides she was in need of a break lately given the stress the poor girl had undergone in the course of the past month and apple bobbing was just the ticket! In the days leading up to the day Callie's excitement had been near insufferable. Just about every person who crossed the young Ravenclaw's path found themselves pestered about their participation in the field day. One such victim was Thomas Baines, who Callie had successfully pestered enough to get him to participate. Even he did whine about it a little but Callie could deal with a some whining if it meant he came along.
Callie bounded onto the grounds with her usual easy going smile across her face and her mane of hair clawed back into a bun. The girl was dressed quite simply in a pair of jeans that were becoming worn at the knee, an open red tartan shirt with a plain black t-shirt adorned with an image of Pikachu underneath all accompanied by a pair of mud stained trainers. Despite finding herself placed into a separate event than Thomas, Callie wasn't at all phased by it. Especially since Miranda and May were involved which thankfully made the presence of Henry a little more bearable. Callie hadn't encountered Henry much but he made her uncomfortable so his company wasn't something she actively sought out.
However her own thoughts about Henry were quickly thrown to the side when Ami gave out instructions, which Callie listened to intently. Apple bobbing may have been simple but Callie knew better than to trust things at Hogwarts on first glance. Thankfully this time around no magic seemed to be involved which gave Callie a small sense of relief. Despite her own stellar grades she still found herself nervous when performing spells in front of others in fear of embarrassing herself. Embarrassing herself bobbing for apples though? No problem at all! When her turn eventually came Callie wasted no time in ducking her head into the water to fish out whichever apple seemed closest. Hopefully it wasn't rotten, that wouldn't be particularly tasty or effective in keeping doctors away.

Field Day | Apple Bobbing
Apple bobbing?
What in Merlin’s fat arse was that? Søren truly had no idea what he was walking into. Signing up for events like this became like instinct for him. Lots of fun was had during the egg race earlier that year and after seeing Willow’s name attached to this Field Day, he knew he had to show up. He only wished he knew apple bobbing was, though. To be fair, he was also at a loss when it came to the other two second year games. But whatever, Søren was here to have fun and he was sure that Willow and the other organizer, Ami, did their best.
Finding the Apple Bobbing station, Søren was unsurprised to find that he was friends with none of the competitors. He did recognize them all as his fellow second years though. A voice summoned the group and Søren turned to find his attacker calling for attention. So, this was Ami? The memory of being shoulder-checked by the towering girl was fresh in his mind and he wondered if he should regard her with disdain. Scoffing at the thought, he tried catching Ami’s eye with a flashy grin. If only Ami was a participant, he would play dirty. Alas, it looked like she was just the organizer, so Søren decided to play fair once again. Probably.
Listening to the instructions confused him, but he got the gist of it after a few go-arounds in his head. Sidling up to his assigned tub, he observed his competition. Only a couple of them looked like they could match him in strength, but he knew that this would involve a bit more than strength. He would definitely need luck, which Merlin tended to be stingy with when it came to Søren.
“Good luck, everybody!” he shouted and against better judgement, slammed his face into the tub of water.Action

Field Day | Apple Bobbing
Miranda headed out onto the grounds at a steady pace, simultaneously excited for and dreading what was to come. Seriously, who had ever come up with the idea of filling a tub full of water and apples, then telling people to try and fish them out with their teeth? She got plenty of the other muggle carnival games, but this one kinda made the top of the weirdness category, from what she knew anyways. If things could get even weirder than this, she'd probably have to salute the creator - it would take quite a bit.
However, her doubts about the game did pretty much nothing from dissuading her from joining in. Miranda was, after all, much too competitive for her own good. Sue her. That was why she found herself standing alongside the other participants, some of which she recognized, some of which she didn't, as an older student explained the rules. Oh, of course they had to make it even harder. Rotten apples, of all things, though? That might be stretching the limits of her willingness to play. Not that she was backing down - Miranda almost never did that - but still.
She moved over to the vat of apples and water after the older girl finished speaking, staring at it with distaste. The young Ravenclaw then glanced around, made a face, and leaned over the water, trying to nab an apple with her teeth.
It was going to take a bit of luck to do it, they were at least right about that.

May had played the Apple Bobbing game once. May had enjoyed it thoroughly, thought she hadn't played it again, for family issues came and May was unable to have any fun from then on. It was sad, really, but many people said May Moonstar was a strong girl- just like her mother, very unlike her father. But now, the day came for May to play the wonderful game again.
She entered the Grounds, probably being the first activity of the start of school field day they had organized that day, and May was glad for that. She felt extra warm, despite being the start of September, so she would enjoy to slam her face into the apple-full tub of water. But May had always enjoyed water, so it would not matter to her.
The girl waved at @Ami Procoppio and saw @Callie Jensen and waved at her too. A few other people she did not know we're there too, thought she gave them a small smile.
She looked at the big tub of water, and smiled reluctantly at her blurred reflection. Rather than thinking she was pretty, the girl looked at the apples, hoping none of the ones May would take with her mouth would be rotten. She gulped at the thought, but then again, she slammed her face into the water.

Field Day | Apple Bobbing
[font=times new roman]
Arriving fashionably late was not necessarily his style, it was just the effect of his constant obsessions that took up his time. Strolling out to the area where he was sectioned to be playing a game, he had assumed that these 'field games' would be something where he could practice his spellwork. With his ivory-colored wand spinning through his fingers like a drumstick, he approached the group and gazed upon the people he was bound to be competing against. This game though, was not magical at all, as the instructions that were given were so mundane he nearly felt offended by it. What a ridiculous waste of time this was turning out to be.
It wasn't as if Zyk didn't enjoy muggle games, he grew up on them and was raised being a muggle, but, he had come to this school because of his 'other' side and expected to be able to put these abilities to the test. A soft nod of his head to those people he knew were given and a pure look of disdain shifted upon his figure as he spotted the ever-annoying May. That one seemed to do nothing but interject herself within his life and make things more difficult for no reason at all, not to mention, what she did at the crafting activities sent his blood boiling to a degree that was rarely seen upon the ever-cool Zykeal. Regardless, he waited until the girl who was running the event finished giving the instructions and continued to start the event.
Calmly, he waited until all of these silly wizards decided to plop their heads into the large bucket of water that contained apples. A little smile played across his face as he watched the girl, May, push her head down into the water and start searching for an apple. The wand that spun within his fingers slowly settled and the hilt was gripped within his palm as he watched the display, the smile turning into a devilish grin. With a quick whip of his wand that pointed directly at the girl, May, as she bobbed for her apple, he spoke an incantation aloud, "Slugulus Eructo," and watched a green light eject outward from his wand towards the girl. The intent was simply to have her find herself biting down on something other than an apple.

Field Day | Apple Bobbing
There was something about watching a bunch of 12-year-olds willingly slamming their faces into a tub of water that absolutely delighted Ami. Although she was rather athletic, she was also incredibly clumsy by nature, and greatly relished the idea of being on the other end of a messy situation, for once.
First to take a metaphorical jab at the situation was @Henry Knight, and things did not end well for him. Rather than coming up victorious with an apple between his teeth, he apparently lost his balance entirely, diving into the shallow tub head-first. With an exasperated sigh, Ami grabbed his shoulders and pulled the now soaking second year out of the water and back to his feet. "Good lord..." she grumbled under her breath, briefly debating whether or not she should bother with a Hot-Air Charm to dry the poor kid off. After all, it was a Scottish autumn, and it was already rather chilly out. No... she was more likely to cause an explosion than do any good. Relucantly taking her dark blue flannel off her shoulders, leaving herself in only a black tank top, she shoved it into his hands rather gruffly. "Dry yourself off; I forgot to bring towels."
@Callie Jensen, on the other hand, did remarkably well. Almost gracefully, her head went down into the tub and came back up with a fresh, beautiful apple in between her teeth. "Nicely done!" Ami said, handing Callie a bowl to put the apple in. "You can eat it later, if you want," she added as an afterthought, realizing that she certainly didn't want to eat apples that someone else had bitten into.
@Søren Silverwood seemed to be having equal amounts of success, although he nearly toppled over from the amount of force he invested in standing back up. "Woah there," Ami chuckled with a laugh, "Don't get too excited there, yeah?" But in between his teeth was another shiny red apple; a clear success.
Ami watched as @Miranda Everest seemed to get some jaws on a promising apple, but groaned in sympathy as the apple slipped out of the Ravenclaw's mouth just as she lifted her head from the surface of the water. "Tough luck, kid; better luck next time," she said with a shrug as she passed. @May Moonstar and @Lucille Williams both managed to succeed in getting themselves some beautiful, red apples though, and Ami clapped her hands together in excited. "Beautiful job, guys!" she said, cheering them on. "Drop 'em in the bowls by your feet."
However, it seemed like @Zykeal Lane wanted to ruin their good fun. Whipping around as she heard the charm's incantation fall from his lips, Ami's wand was out in a flash, as if she were ready to dive in from of May. Unfortunately, she was too late. While May was facing towards the pool, completely unaware of the Gryffindor's presence, Zyk hit her squarely in the back with the Slug-Vomiting Charm. She would feel the nausea rising up in her esophagus and probably spit out a slug or two, but Ami was standing between May and Zykeal before any other spells could be cast.
"Reparifors," she whispered under her breath, but her wand only sparked indignantly. "Oh, Jesus- reparifors!" Against, her wand sparked, and May would lurch forward slightly as she felt the magical force at her back from Ami's wand. "For the love of god... REPARIFORS!" Her enraged yell apparently seemed to do the trick, and May would stop vomiting and be released from the spell's awful effects.
"Jesus Christ, kid!" Ami exclaimed angrily, storming over to Zykeal with a glowering expression. "What the hell were you trying to pull, there?" Reaching out, she smacked him squarely across the side of his head, and he would stumble slightly from the sheer force of the older Hufflepuff's action. "You know she could've fallen in?" she yelled, jaw clenched. "Poor kid could've fallen in, started vomiting in the water, and choked! And hell if I know CPR; kid, what if she died? What were you thinking?"
Hesitating as she realized that the other students were probably staring at her in shock, Ami bit her lip as she tried to figure out what to do. Frankly, she had never had to break up a fight before; normally, she was the one getting in fights. Finally, she sighed and pointed towards the other students. "You can either join them peacefully, or I'm taking you to Professor Pendrast. And apologize to May. She did nothing wrong, and didn't do anything to you."
Glancing at the other students, she added, "He's in your year. If you wanna hex him, I don't blame you, but you've got some serious loot on the line." Pointing to her schoolbag hanging from a nearby tree, she explained, "3 galleons and frogs from some of the winners, you know. That's some serious cash."

ROLLS
Callie Jensen:
Successfully located (11) and retrieved (15) a good apple (41).Miranda Everest:
Succeded in locating (23), but failed to lift it out of the tub (7).May Moonstar:
Successfully located (18) and retrieved (20) a good apple (86).
Henry Knight: Crit failed the accuracy check. As per my rules and discretion, he fell into the tub (but as it's shallow, only about shoulders and up have been entirely soaked through) and was pulled out by Ami.
Søren Silverwood: Succeeded in locating (19) a good apple (45). Retrieving was a nat20; riding off of that high, he will have a roll advantage to any single roll he choose this round. This means I will roll 2 dice and take the higher number; please specify which one as unfortunately, I cannot read your mind. Søren, please don't hesitate to DM me if you have any questions about what rolls I will do (should you choose a different action than bobbing/kicking).
Zykeal Lane: Successfully cast Slug-Vomiting Charm (26, DC of 11) and hit May full-on (17 acc vs. crit-fail).
Ami Procoppio: Fails two attempts of Reparifors, before casting it successfully on May. I know it's slightly cheating, but I really don't want to have to make May write out vomiting slugs, nor do I want to read that. Additionally, she slaps Zykeal across the back of the head for being an idiot (24 acc vs. 16 eva).

- While Lucille has not actually posted in this thread, due to some severe miscommunication and mistakes on my end, I have given her a free action as compensation. So sorry, Lucille!
- You may choose between two different actions each round: Bob or Kick.
======
No one will be badly hurt during this event (see: I will not be deducting health points).
- As can be seen here, you may improvise some other action that is not listed if you want. However, that means you will be subject to my judgment, discretion, and "house-rules" (as I've heard it been called on Critical Role). I have bent some rules above for the sake of not ruining May's day, but I promise all rolls from now on will be completely unaltered. Proceed with caution.

Field Day | Apple Bobbing
@Zykeal Lane @Ami Procoppio
May felt the cold water running through her face as she plunged in, eyes closed into the water with a open mouth, ready to bite the lucky apple she was supposed to bite, ready to add it to the bowl in front of her two, marvelous tennis shoes, but things weren't how they were supposed to be.
May hadn't seen Zykeal Lane enter the game....and no, she never thought he would participate in such a rustic event, for maybe he wanted some 'solitary time' in the common room or something, thinking about what he had done in the last school year...but, of course, May couldn't blame him. It was his life after all.
But then, a spell she knew fully well hit her in the back, causing her to feel a squirming sensation in the stomach. The urgent need to vomit came though her throat, and wide eyed, she looked into the floor, scared of what she would see...
The apple she had in her mouth fell into the bowl, yet, something else fell in too. Slugs. May shook her head, ready to cry, Ami's words barely echoing in her ears. Why did Zykeal have to do this? It wasn't May's fault. She was innocent. She had helped her friend, Ivy Bellamy, and she had just runned away, saying it was all her fault that Zykeal Lane wasn't her friend anymore.
After Ami's words, May castes a angry look at Zykeal, ready to kill. Yes. The time will come when I will hex him, and he will be sorry.
But the game hadn't finished yet. Zykeal Lane couldn't escape this one. She took her apple, and then, dropped it as she kicked it (with her Martial Artist skills) in the direction of the Gryffindor spell caster, hoping the fruit would find its specified target, for revenge.

Miranda felt a flush of excitement, tinged with worry, as she grabbed an apple in her teeth, but it took her only moments to drop it again after the heavy fruit tumbled from her shaky grasp. Once again, she found herself wondering why they had to use their teeth, of all things. Surely there were better way to make a game interesting instead of having people plunge their faces into water and try to draw out the bobbing fruit. Her disappointment was short lived, however, because a number of things seemed to happen all at once.
The first thing she noticed was Henry, who'd somehow managed to fall into the tub of water. Miranda winced in sympathy. She was pretty sure he didn't hate water as much as she did, but it was cool out, and being soaked probably didn't feel nice. The next thing she noticed was that one of the girls she didn't know had begun to vomit slugs. It took the red-haired fourth year three tries to heal her, and then there was a flurry of annoyed words in Zykael's direction. Miranda hadn't caught the actual casting of the spell, but from the words being spoken it seemed obvious that the culprit had been him.
Knowing that it would be smarter to continue to get apples in an attempt to catch up with those who'd been successful, Miranda edged tentatively back towards the tub, although she kept a cautious eye on Zykael. She for one did not want to get hit with such a spell.
But there was nothing to do, short of leaving, that could prevent another search in the tub. Ah well.
