Field Day | Magical Horseshoes
MAGICAL HORSESHOES
The lanky American surveyed the scene laid out in front of her with a critical eye, pleased with what met her gaze. She'd been planning this field day with Willow for a while, now, and she was beyond pleased with how it had turned out. Now, all there was to do to wait for the participants to show up.competitors:
@Thomas Baines, @Serena Bowen, @Lucia Fox, @Cassandra Ironwoods, @Dealla Prince, @Caelan Stewart, @Lizzie Verdine
Slowly, the people who'd signed up began to appear in front of her, and Ami would greet each and every one of them with a cocky smile and some sort of snarky comment. When all of them had arrived, the Hufflepuff did one last little headcount before clapping her hands together with gusto. "What's up, assorted nerds and losers?" she crowed light-heartedly, grinning at the assortment of students standing in front of her. To be honest, she was floored that so many people had actually shown up at her little event, and was quite flattered that she could actually plan something that could garner this much attention. "If you're not here for the field day... well, I dunno what to tell ya. Get lost?" Chuckling to herself slightly, she cleared her throat before continuing on.
"Okay, let's get to it, then. Laid out before you is the most iconically epic event in the history of events... horseshoes." With a flourish of her hand, Ami gestured to the several piles of horseshoes she had, ahem, acquired from Professor Lian. "But since we're magical, we're gonna make it interesting. None of you look like little first year squirts... so I'm gonna assume that all of you know the Levitation Charm, yeah?" Making sure that there weren't any shaking heads, she nodded in approval. "Fantastic! And you guys know the Knockback Jinx?" More head nods, and Ami grinned. "See where I'm headed with this? You guys will have 5 minutes to get as many horseshoes around your designated pole as possible, using one of these two spells. Ready?"
Without waiting for any sort of affirmation, Ami glanced at an invisible watch on her wrist. "The timer starts... now!"

Field Day | Magical Horseshoes
Nick stepped out into the courtyard, taking in the beautiful weather. The Highlands always had the best weather in the fall, nice and cool with the sun being out more often than not. Sure there was always an overhead in Scotland most of the time, but the sun always shone through the most in September. He didn't even need a jacket, though his peers less accustomed to the weather probably do.
Making his way over to the designated location for field day, Nick was fascinated by all the different little games that were set up. He silently applauded the students who put this together because damn did they do a good job. He made his way over to the horseshoe event, which honestly he probably would've had trouble finding if he didn't know what a horseshoe looked like.
Nick made his way over to the group of Second years that had gathered around the older redhead. She started explaining the rules of the game, which honestly was pretty helpful since he didn't know how to play. Back home, the town never really held events for the children, and even if they did, it wouldn't be something like this.
Quickly identifying which pole was his, Nick got into position to start "tossing". When given the go, Nick took a horseshoe and held it up, trying his best to line it up with the pole. He pulled his wand out of his sleeve with the other hand and moved it in the shape of a "V" with a small "u" jetting out of it. He simply said, "Flipendo." and watched it fly out of his hand and land. He wasn't the most powerful wizard, but he was pretty accurate, so he hoped this would be a good call.Action: Cast Flipendo at Horseshoe

Lizzie had not planned anything for her 13th birthday. She wasn’t the best planner meaning someone else would have the pressure of planning something but that would mean releasing information about her. Even if the girl loved to talk about herself day and night sometimes when it came to her birthday nothing was ever said and it was always forgotten. However, this year had been different, she had finally gotten a good birthday present. Her first pet. The amazing and beautiful purple pygmy puff Chief.
It must have just been luck that she saw some student events were being done on her birthday. Something that Lizzie could not turn down at all. It had to be a sign that she wasn’t going to sulk around in her dorm all day feeding small bits of cheese to her pet. So that’s why people could see the girl practically running towards where the event was being held. She was not missing out on it at all. She had even remembered her wand which for once was a first.
She stood there listening to everything the fourth year said. Normally, Lizzie would not listen at all and had gone off into her own world a few times while nodding her head and humming a few ‘yes’s every none and again. However, she did not want to lose at all. It was her birthday and that meant she would have to put her all into it.
Standing next to a pole, Lizzie got out her wand and focused on one of the horse shoes before waving her wand around a little bit and mumbling, “Wingardium Leviosa” It was the best idea since she had forgotten about every other spell ever. It was not the Ravenclaw’s fault that she had literally lost her wand half way through the last school year.

Cash is glad that the new school year about to rolled in. Being back at Hogwarts is much better than being at their home. The big manor seems cold and lonely with only themselves and a few of their helpers. Their mom was busy at St. Mungo's, their father well still missing and Cash keep wondering what happened to their father during one of his job.
Before last term was over, they signed up for Field day. Whatever the activities for field day, Cash surely will enjoyed it. Upon their arrival at the ground, the other two participant for today activity were already there beside the host. One is a boy that is their housemate and the other one is Lizzie. The green eyes walk up to their best friend.
Cash did not know whether both of the student still close and could call each other that. "Hey, Liz"The purple hair greet their friend. There's a hollow sound emitted from the purple haired. Cash surely did missed her. At the beginning of First Year both of the Raven and the Serpent was best friend.
Now Cash awkwardly greet her. When the host greeted the participant for the activities in an amusing way, Cash let out a small audible chuckle. The second year listen to the older girl about what they will do today. It is looks like all of them will put those horseshoes into a pole as many as they can within 5 minutes. Cash eyeing one of the pole.
They give a bit distance between themselves and the pole. When they think it is enough distance between them and the pole, they took out their wand. Cash can hear the boy casted Flipendo while Lizzie choose to levitate the thing. Cash moved their wand for the Knockback Jinx while keeping their eyes to their target.
"Flipendo!"They exclaimed loud and clear. They watched the iron horseshoe fly out and hoping the first horseshoe land into the pole. If and when the horseshoe land, they will secure the first one with ease.

With all summer spent reading up on spells, practicing as much as he could without breaking the underage magic law, and developing strategy beyond casting the same spell repeatedly until his opponent was defeated, Thomas was armed and dangerous. His new discipline on the subject of spellcasting would be a defining factor in how he conducted himself in duels and attacks in the future. He worked hard to gain an edge over his classmates, and he was excited to show this newfound improvement in his coursework. The Ravenclaw hadn't discovered an overwhelming adoration for any particular subject, and he wasn't overly prolific in any of them, so he resolved instead to be better in a general sense rather than focusing on one in particular. More measured and methodical, Tommy would certainly be more cautious and less lackadaisical with his approach.
All of that aside, Thomas didn't really want to be here. He'd been strong-armed into signing up for the Field Day by his good friend Callie, and now she wasn't even in his event! Elias had blown the entire competition off, and Sylvie was off probably doing far more entertaining things at the moment. That just left him wasting his time, competing in an event he couldn't help but think was silly. In comparison to the other scenarios he found himself in his previous year, with the incident in the Forbidden Forest fresh in his mind still, this felt frivolous and childish. Thomas was twelve, nearly a teenager! He didn't want to waste his time on such ridiculous, immature activities.
Still, despite his desire to grow up fast, Thomas wasn't immune to the impulses of a young mind. Upon noticing that Dealla was in his event, a girl who he had competed against in the past (that competition eventually going unresolved), the flames of his ambitious nature were rekindled. He was a ferocious combatant in Chess Combat, giving the event his all, and though this event wasn't dueling in the direct sense, it still required spellcasting. It was an opportunity for Tommy to prove that his team would have won if it hadn't been for Theo, and it was an opportunity to prove that as a solo spellcaster he was a force to be reckoned with.
Thomas offered her the same smirk he offered the likes of Mars and Santario, though she may not have recognized the fire in his eyes that typically meant his competitive nature was about to become cutthroat. The Ravenclaw may have believed that this game was stupid and a waste of time, but he'd be damned if he wasn't the best at this stupid waste of time. Returning his attention back to the game, Thomas cast, "Wingardium Leviosa." Inwardly he cringed, remembering the last time he cast such a spell. Awkward... He wondered how Breana was doing.

The sun was shining, not blocked by clouds, and Dee blinked into the light as she skipped over to the horseshoe event, her brown locks bouncing around her. It hadn't even been a question of whether or not to sign up when she'd seen the flyer: There had been field days at the Muggle school she had attended before Hogwarts, and all of those had been great fun - Dee tended to thrive in competitive environments - and now with magic thrown into the mix? There was no way this wasn't going to be amazing.
When she reached the setup with the poles and horseshoes, Dee could already spot a few familiar faces. There was Lizzie, who she'd met a few times and who had left rather unique impressions at each of those occasions, and Cash who had been on her team at that horrible fight club event at the end of the summer camp. Both of them got a cheery wave.
There was another familiar person among the contestants - one who had contributed to the (no less than) three times she'd been set on fire during the Chess Combat event in summer, and well, that was a safe way to get her competitive spirit flaring. She was still unsatisfied with the way the match had been cut short in the end, with Theodore fainting sooner than expected. Thomas received a blinding grin in response to the smirk and she felt her excitement grow and flutter in her chest. "No setting people on fire this time, yeah?"
The student throwing snark at anyone approaching, on the other hand, didn't seem familiar. She seemed to be an older year, and likely not Ravenclaw, but that was all that Dee got from her appearance. One of the organisers, most likely. But that wasn't the important part, anyway - the important part was the rules she was currently explaining.
Dee had never played this horseshoes game, but the rules were easy enough to grasp, and the Ravenclaw noted with a spark of mischief in her blue eyes that there were no rules forbidding them from interfering with other people's spells. But that was for later. For now, she should try to get a head start on getting horseshoes onto her own pole.
As soon as they were given the command to start, Dee aimed at one of the nearby horseshoes, and flicked her wand in a, by now, well-practiced motion. "Wingardium Leviosa!" she called, intending to levitate it onto the pole she'd been assigned. The prizes were tempting, but winning was what she was after.

Serena skipped down to the grounds, coming to a stop when she spied a group of people and a pile of horseshoes. She had never participated in a...field day? Was that what it had been called? No matter, whatever its name was, the event had sounded like a blast, so when Serena saw the flier advertising it, she had quickly signed up to take part. Since she wasn’t entirely sure what to wear, she had gone for something casual yet still cute: a pink sweater and jean shorts, with some fishnet tights and some brown loafers with matching socks. Hopefully, it was what she was expected to wear, and there wasn’t some sort of dress code that she had somehow missed.
As Serena approached the group, she looked around and noticed that everyone else appeared to be her age except for a red-headed girl who looked to be a few years older than Serena. 'She must be the one in charge' Serena thought.
And her theory was proven correct when the older girl began explaining how the event was going to work. Serena listened intently to the rules. She had never heard of this game before, but how hard could it be to levitate some horseshoes and get them on a metal pole?
So, after the timer started, Serena pulled out her wand from her pocket and did the movement for the Levitation Charm. "Wingardium Leviosa!" She cast, making sure to say it clearly.
Hopefully, it would be successful. After all, Serena wanted to win.

Field Day | Magical Horseshoes
Note: Lucia has requested to be skipped this round.
What a day to be outside! As the second years lined up to start casting their spells of choice, Ami couldn't help but cross her fingers for a clean, boring game. No one hexing each other, no intense shoving, no temper tantrums... yeah, that would be ideal. But, of course, it was Hogwarts. There was no such thing as boring here.
First one up to bat was @Caelan Stewart, who had the strangest nickname Ami would ever encounter (not that he introduced himself; this is more of an outside perspective). With a swish and a flick, both he and Ami awaited the result with baited breath; alas, nothing happened, although his horseshoe did wiggle rather enthusiastically in his grasp. "Better luck next time, kid," she said sympathetically, clapping him on the shoulder rather roughly as she passed.
A loud thunk from the next pole over caught her attention, however, and Ami turned to @Lizzie Verdine with her mouth agape. "Is your-" she managed to stutter, staring at the horseshoe that had impaled the ground beneath the pole. "Jesus Christ, man. Easy on the power, yeah? We're not trying to kill the worms, here." Seeming almost... impressed, she nodded in approval as @Thomas Baines and @Dealla Prince also managed to hook horseshoes around their poles. What an impressive bunch of... er, kids!
While @Lucia Fox seemed... well, catatonic, @Serena Bowen was certainly trying her best. But, try as she might, her might simply wasn't enough. Her horseshoe just fell short of the pole, and Ami offered her fellow Hufflepuff a shrug and a rueful grin. "Next time!" she added encouraging, miming an overenthusiastic jab with a wand. "Add that power, baby."
Another thud, this time from the student with the purple hair, drew Ami's attention once more. Apparently, the horseshoe had hurled itself out of @Cassandra Ironwoods' hand, only to flop onto the ground right in front of them rather unceremoniously. In an instant, Ami's primal instincts leapt into action as she bellowed, "Free for all! Grab that horseshoe!"

Lizzie Verdine: Succeeded in casting (18), arcane power (nat20), but failed accuracy (8). This means that her horseshoe may NOT be taken away, as she's literally impaled it into the ground. Her nat20 also overrides her failed accuracy check (deal with it).
Cash Ironwoods: Succeeded in casting (19), but crit failed arcane power. This means that their horseshoe fell on the ground, in the middle of the field. This has become a bonus horseshoe for ANYONE ELSE (so unfortunately, not Cash) to claim as their own. Thomas regarded Dealla's comment philosophically for a few moments, before opting to snippily reply, "Sorry, but no promises!" There was a level of joking to the boy's tone, of course... When one took into account the young Ravenclaw's track record, however, expecting a lack of friendly fire was certainly wishful thinking. Tommy was something of a clown after all, accidental or otherwise.
As his horseshoe was successfully levitated, Thomas had a fairly easy smile on his face. It was clear that the boy was wholly unconcerned with the competition and likely believed that it'd be a wash. If his impression of his competitors and peers were contested, well, that was left to be seen. At the moment, however, he had no real reason to be too worried about winning or losing the activity. There was an opportunity to get ahead, something that Thomas noticed and was prepared to seize upon immediately.
"Wingardium Leviosa," came his rather bored incantation, levitating the first horseshoe was easy as pie anyhow. The boy practically had a sniper scope on his wand; Thomas' keen vision and steady hand were some of the reasons why he was quite the confident duelist.
Then, taking the chance to either get an edge over his competitors and to earn an extra point, or to make up for a potential failure his first time, he cast again. "Wingardium Leviosa!" This time, his aim was to levitate the fallen horseshoe Cash left up for grabs. He knew the move would be contested, so the Ravenclaw put considerable more oomph into his incantation, though his demeanor was still casual and confident otherwise.

When she'd actually worked out what she was supposed to be doing, Lucia grabbed her wand and tried to make up for lost time.
Ok, first things first (oh wonderful, now she had an Imagine Dragons song she didn't even like stuck in her head), get the horseshoe Cash Ironwoods had dropped.
Sorry, not sorry.
The moment the prefect - what was her name again? - yelled to grab the horseshoe, Lucia did exactly that and sprinted over to where it lay on the ground, hand outstretched.
Wierdly for anyone listening, she was humming under her breath - an upbeat song which helped her run faster.
She was still panting, however, by the time she got back to her own pole.
If she had successfully grabbed the horseshoe, she would sling it over her pole before continuing, and grin proudly.
Wait... Free for all did mean that she could just grab it right? She didn't have to use her wand? Oh Merlin... Lucia's face burst into one of guilty apprehension as she hoped fervently she had played by the rules.
Right, second things second (AAH! The song was now playing second verse, and Lucia gritted her teeth) use wand.... Right.
Drawing her wand from her pocket, the now second year pointed it at a random horseshoe and said loudly (and firmly), the incantation to make objects fly. She accompanied this with a Swish-And-Flick motion, and hoped it would fall onto the pole.
She was doing a lot of hoping today, it seemed.ACTION: Bonus Action probably cheating oop-, Wingardium Leviosa
