April Fools' Pool Party
This roleplay takes place on April 1st, 2020.
Jack Burnett has decided to attempt making his own heated pool on the grounds.
Feel free to join him if you'd like!
It was the first of April and Jack was feeling very out of sorts. In what way was hard to say; he couldn't quite pin-point it himself. He got out of bed, got dressed, ate meals, went to classes, and did everything else as usual, but something still didn't feel right.
In the afternoon when classes were over, the Slytherin dressed in a pair of shorts and his robes, carrying with him a towel over his shoulder and a covered cookie tin in his hand as he went outside. He didn't stop at the courtyard, but continued beyond where there was a large, open grass space. It was there he set the cookie tin down and removed the cover, setting it flat on the ground next to the tin.
The tin was a medium-sized, spotless, rectangular cookie tin with rounded corners filled with warm, pure, clean water. Stepping away from the tin and its cover, Jack stared seriously at the tin cover, removed his wand from the pocket of his robes to point at his target, and spoke, his voice loud and clear.
"Engorgio."
He made the proper wand movement, as he'd learned, and waited until the tin cover was approximately 6 by 12 meters, or around 20 by 40 feet. Once he was satisfied, he lowered his wand and focus, taking a moment to recover before focusing next on the tin itself filled with water. This, too, matched to the same dimensions as the cover.
When he was finished, the Slytherin first-year stepped onto the shining tin cover, removed his shoes, robes, and towel, placed them in a neat pile. Then he walked over to a tree that had come to hang over the tin when it had grown in size and climbed it. From one of the boughs, he carefully broke off a twig and dropped it into the water.
"Engorgio," he said again, once more waving his wand and growing the twig until it was more like a floating log onto which one could lay. Then he stuck his wand in a pocket of his shorts, jumped from the tree bough into the water, swam over to the slender 'log', and leaned his back up against it, reclining with his arms draped across to enjoy the open air mingling with the water's faintly-steaming warmth.

Opeila had not seen that there was someone in this pool.
When she had looked out of a window, the steam had hidden her housemate. Opeila had assumed that maybe teacher did this and so she had gotten out her swimsuit and put it on under her robe. Opeila hadn't thought for a second that this could be a student's doing.
The first year left the castle after her last lesson. It was a rather short day for her, not too many lessons and she thought that she could as well use the opportunity to go swimming, when would she have that opportunity again? She'd never go into the Great Lake, she was still convinced, that the squid wanted her dead. So this was just perfect.
Or so she thought until she saw the silhouette through the steam. The red hair gave away who it was, she didn't know anyone else with the same colour hair.
"Burnett?", she asked surprised. "Did- Did you do this?" Surprised she looked at her housemate, who layed on top of... well. It looked like it could have been a twig once, like the pool, that had probably been a normal box once. But where on earth did Burnett get that much warm water?

Adohiro was rather bored and tired and trying to look for a place to study quietly without Slytherins pulling pranks and mayhem or any students being obnoxious. It sure wasn't fun to be grouped with a bunch of immature eleven-year-olds who couldn't control themselves. He soon heard the sound of water and he would come closer until he saw what was going on. "Is he drowning? What's going on?" He asked worriedly to himself and he soon saw another girl who seemed to be interested in the same thing. He didn't know what was going on, but he sure didn't want to get his clothes wet. He continued to stand there dumbfounded. It did certainly look nice and he felt an urge to go in there. "Hey, can I go in the pool?" He asked the brownish haired boy hoping he would be nice to a Slytherin. He was a bit worried people would treat him differently if he they knew what class he was in. He would go up to the water and dip his feet in, it felt cold but relaxing. He was a bit jealous he hadn't though og his idea at all. Maybe a next time?

Hearing his last name, Jack raised his head immediately, his blank expression lighting up at the sound of a familiar voice.
"Opeila?" he asked, peering through the soft wafting steam to see the other Slytherin's face. Upon confirming that it was her, he beamed brightly and waved an arm. It was a moment before he realized she had asked him a question.
"Me? Oh, yeah. Come on in! You're just in time. The water's still really warm. Perfect temperature, I'd say."
The red-headed boy manuvered himself so he could push the large, floating twig-branch toward the end of the makeshift pool that Opeila was at, propelling himself forward by kicking through the water.
"Isn't this great? We don't have to worry about it being too deep or giant squids or merfolk trying to enslave us," he laughed, holding out an arm to give her a hand in the case she wanted to climb onto his twig-branch. "Too bad we don't have any water guns or anything. But I thought the weather's kinda nice now that spring is coming around, don't you think?"
He nodded toward the large, flat metal cover next to the pool. "You can put any stuff you have over there if you like. That way it won't get lost in the grass and it'll be in plain sight so we can make sure no one takes it."
Before he could say any more, another first-year showed up - a Slytherin Jack remembered noticing in his dormitory just recently. He hadn't asked his name, though.
"Hello," he greeted, waving with a grin. "Sure, knock yourself out! That's what it's here for," he told the other boy, glad to have some company.

He would give a nervous nod and he would slowly walk onto the stick putting his feet in the cold clean water. "This feels really nice." He spoke and he would glance at the unknown boy. "What is your name? My name is Adohiro. Before you ask me what it means it means 'peace within chaos.'" He introduced himself. However, he was a bit worried if he revealed what his name meant, he would be known as the boy with the weird name or the one who always told people what his name meant. However, if he never told people what his name meant they would pester him to reveal it. It was a bit like a double-edged sword and he was always nervous and careful how he acted around people. He certainly wanted to be looked as normal and certainly not as a weird person. That would be horrifying for him and he would look away quietly. Maybe he could be friends with these two? The 'Opeila' seemed to be friends with the other boy so maybe it would broaden his friend circle. He would continue to stick his feet into the water, he certainly didn't want to get his nice robes wet or damage them.

The next surprise was him calling her by her first name. How did he irritate her so much every time he opened his mouth? She just decided not to say anything about it.
Jack asked her to come in the water, it was still warm. Opeila hesitated for a second, then took of shoes and her cloak, before climbing onto the edge of the pool. She put down her shoes and her cloak there, so she could see them.
Jack had manuvered his branch in her direction and held out an arm to help her on the branch. Opeila took it and climbed next to him on the branch.
Where did you get that much warm water? Or did it just got more when you casted the spell on this uhm... box?", she asked her housemate.
Jack seemed like he was in a good mood, saying how great it was not having to worry about the squid or merpeople wanting to enslave them. Opeila chuckled. "You're right I guess..." Then he said that he wished they had water guns or something.
"Have you looked at your dormitory door sometime the last hours? There are notes on everyone. Dorm battle. So I guess you'll get your fight soon.", she said smirking. Alright... she had put those notes on the doors. No, wait, that wasn't true. She had asked Dan Palmer to do so. "But the weather is great, absolutely. Wouldn't mind it to be a little warmer though..." She turned her face to the sun and closed her eyes, enjoying the warmth on her face.
She opened her eyes and turned her face when she heard another voice, one she didn't know. Nope, she definitely didn't know that face either. Opeila sent him a little smile. "Hello!"

April Fool's was often a holiday her family got a kick out of, playing mini pranks around the house on each other. Though hers were always obvious and she was pretty sure her parents played along with her pranks in the end. Something about today felt a tad empty, she was missing that jovial laughter of pranks and a fun time. As she was making a walk through the courtyard she saw someone making a pool? From her distance away she couldn't tell exactly who it was but she quickly ran to her dorm and grabbed the swimsuit she had luckily brought to school despite not knowing if she would need it as well as a towel.
Her swimsuit top was more like a tight t-shirt due to the fact that she now had a giant scar on her back that she was unwilling to show people quite yet, despite Flash helping her slowly heal it. It was yellow with white daisies with bottoms to match, properly fitting of a girl with her personality. She was wearing a lavender knitted cover-up so she didn't have to walk through the castle just in her bathing suit. As she approached she recognized two out of the three people there. One she was on iffy terms with, one she considered a friend, and the other she had never met before.
She peeked over the edge of the metal pool, she figured she should probably ask before just jumping in, especially since she didn't want to intrude on Jack. "Hiya! Do you have room for one more?" She was already in the process of tying her hair up in a bun to jump in, when Jack invited her in. The cover up and towel were quickly deposited before she miraculously clambered her short stature into pool. Immediately the nice warmth enveloping her, and letting the woes of homesickness wash away. Instead of approaching the ones she knew immediately she turned to the one she hadn't to introduce herself. Luckily she had caught him at the tail end of his introduction. "I don't think we've met, Adohiro! I'm Willow, a first year Hufflepuff it's lovely to meet you! She bounced up and down in the water, not able to stand still even with one of the most calming elements.

Adohiro would be rather shy as Willow introduced herself to him. He would nod and he gave a soft smile. "It is nice to meet you." He smiled softly and he wondered who the boy was. "Who are you?" He asked the boy softly and he would lean and lay down on the large raft. It felt relaxing this way but he hoped he wouldn't be blocking anyone's way as he continued to relax. It sure was a very beautiful day to relax. He was worried that it would start to rain all of sudden, he did grow up in Seoul. Weather sure was unpredictable in Seoul and he was rather worried if Hogwarts was like this. He hadn't read up on the weather but he did read that it did rain a lot. "Where is everyone from and what are your hobbies?" He asked trying to make some small talk with the others. It was rather difficult to keep a conversation going and he hoped he would not be weird. He had promised his older brother he would make friends and have some friendships that would last to the future. It sure sounded cheesy though and probably extremely weird.

Midweek was Ruka's least favourite part of the week - Too far away from the last weekend, and too far from the next - so after his classes were over he didn't really feel anything but exhaustion.
It had felt like the week was stretching across at least two months already and he realised, just as he was on his way back to his Common Room, that it was most likely because of the fact that he hadn't exactly been doing anything but go to classes and study in the library recently. He probably just needed some distraction, something to do to loosen him up a little bit.
With that in mind he didn't waste too much time in his dormitory - just enough to swap his school uniform for a pair of jeans, grey sneakers and a long sleeved blue T-Shirt - before making his way down to the Grounds, humming quietly to himself as he hopped down the stairs and skipped through the Courtyard. Just the thought of spending some time by the Lake, enjoying some sun and relaxing made his spirits rise, so by the time he actually reached the Grounds there was a bright smile on his face.
Until he spotted a grey monstrosity just there where there was usually nothing but nature to be found.
Brows furrowed, he made his way over to what appeared to be an enormous metal tin, a frown on his face as he realised that there were people inside it. For a moment he wasn't exactly sure why anybody would have put up something like that, and why anyone would be inside it, until he realised that the massive tin was filled with water, effectively creating a pool large enough to welcome a few students inside.
As Ruka got a little closer, a grin spread on his face the second he recognised a familiar head of red, highlighted hair.
Of course.
He made his way over to one edge of the pool, steadying himself against it with his arms folded over the rim. There were a couple more familiar faces; one of which was Opeila next to Jack on what seemed to be a random branch, the other one was Willow in introductions with a boy he hadn't met before.
"What's this then?" he asked, question directed at nobody in particular, with amusement lacing his voice, shaking his head a bit at the sight in front of him. His eyes found Jack and he offered the Slytherin a small but enthusiastic wave. "Impromptu Pool Party?" He chuckled lightly and dipped a hand into the water.
It was pleasantly warm.
"Hi, Opeila," he added with a small smile, hopeful he wasn't interrupting any important conversations. "Hey, Willow." His eyes drifted to the boy he didn't know, nodding at him in greeting instead of saying anything. "Enjoying the warm weather?"

April Fools' Pool Party

It was a prank. Why wouldn’t it be? April Fools’ was a holiday widely celebrated since decades prior and years to come, raised from the ashes of childish pranks and games. Someone cursed to be like Jack Burnett, an archetypal trickster if Persephone had ever encountered one, was the pure breed of the type of person this holiday was dreamed for. A day to create chaos in a way strongly disliked by the agent of such, youthful and ridiculous, without purpose or reason aside from a good laugh. Of course, the blonde wouldn’t be laughing, instead a ‘victim’ of said trick, like a member of the majority.
It was a prank. She was being ignorant. But god, the agony the girl endured having not swam for the months since the cold consumed. The idea was enthralling all on its own, with no help from the organizer himself. Precautions would be taken, Persy could not afford otherwise in reference to her plan that melted under the heat of the looming summer. The water invited her, sang like the song of a siren, pure and clear like her head never had been. Never would be.
Precautions. Right.
As soon as her final lesson had concluded, running on nothing but the fumes of its core purpose and the professor’s weary voice, the crybaby had dashed to the Grounds, hoping for the comfort of sun-kissed skin. Though her pale tone never faltered under the sun’s wrath, the warmth that spread throughout was a sensation similar to no other, though different to each person. Instead of embracing that light and reminder of consistency in an ever-changing life, the small pool had found her instead, already occupied by her ‘disliked’ ally, an unfamiliar boy and girl, and, of-goddamn-course, the demon. Red, naturally.
Emerald eyes fell upon each inhabitant, completely strangled by another being in itself, naive airs rising with the diminishing steam. Persephone wouldn’t be asking for capital punishment, smiling as the needle took her breath away with a kiss of death. Such negligent practices were what brought upon adolescent deaths, the children diving into shallow water or removing their life-jackets a month too early. The conversation that buzzed among the flies with fake delight was trivial to the affairs lingering in the invitation. The purity and clarity the trick offered was promising, but swears like that were broken every time they were made. Nothing that lived among the Earth was pure, untouched by the world’s corrupting malice.
Instead of obliging to its irresistible calls, the Slytherin moved her fingers lightly through its surface, observing attentively as it bent to her will, as manipulable as a futile pawn. But, in this rare case, Persephone was not its true master. At that precise moment, yet another unwarranted justification that karma was overwhelmingly real, a familiar victim eased toward the scene of a coming crime. In order to not disturb planned peace, she maneuvered quickly.
Without looking at him, offering such satisfaction, the blonde addressed the demon with her volume low, as to not alert the inhabitants. Let them suffer, see if she cared. As an extra precaution, her voice did not grace his ears until it was clear to do so, each person distracted with pointless introductions she carried no interest in. “So, Burnett, is it clear hair dye? A potion? Plan to drown them all?” A balled fist gently tapped the tin, “...natural conductor of electricity, you know.”
Don't talk like one of them, you're not. Even if you'd like to be. - Heath Ledger
