Revenge is Best Served Frozen
Thursday 4th February 2021
Toffee-gate, as Sarah had so quickly taken to calling it, was a few weeks gone, and the Slytherin was desperate to get her own back. It was something that had taken up more of her time that she’d like to admit, trying o decide what exactly she wanted to do by way of revenge. Not hat what Ross had done was a particularly bad thing. In fact, when the excitement of chasing him through the corridors had worn off and she been settled back in the common rooms with the small box of toffee he’d thrown at her, she’d felt something swell within her. She couldn’t remember the last time she’d received such a personal gift from anyone other than her aunt. It had made her want to return he favour somehow, and she’d soon come to realise how.
Whizbee, she’d so dubbed the Hufflepuff, by account of the sour nature of their first meeting. She realised now, that the name was more fitting than she’d first thought as despite the smart remarks he was clearly capable of, he was sweet - the toffee proving as much. And that fact that he’d seemed to have no clue what she’d been talking about when she’d given him the nickname only made it better.
So, at the next Hogsmeade trip, fake permission slip in hand, Sarah had scoured the shops for the biggest bag of fizzing whizbees she could find. Still, she’d not wanted to simply give him the gift. She wanted payback for him flinging a box at her after all, and if it caused him to bruise as she had, then that was only a plus. She’d spent the rest of the following week trying to come up with a way of ambushing the boy without being caught. A myriad fo spells had come to mind initially, though she’d been quick to disregard eh majority of them, not sure cursing him to continuously sneeze was worth the detention. Almost, but not quite. She’d have to come up with something else.
It was Thursday, and thankfully the Slytherin’s classes had finished for the day. The week, despite not yet being over, had been a long one and she was beginning to feel overwhelmingly drained. The owl she’d received from her father on Monday had kicked the week off on a bad note - not that any owl she received from her father didn’t end in a similar way. He’d been quite insistent on her becoming a better young lady now that she was a teenager and no longer a child. She’d rolled her eyes so hard she’d had a headache for the next two days.
Frankly, she needed something to take her mind off of everything, and the glimpse of a dark mop of hair was exactly what she wanted. She moved to hide behind a large tree as soon as she recognised him, hoping she’d escaped before he’d managed to see her. The bubble of excitement building within her was enough to pull all of the negative thoughts away as she bent down to the still snow-covered ground and quickly got to work forming half a dozen snowballs.
She peered back around from her hiding spot, making sure her target hadn’t walked away in the few minutes she’d been hidden, and smirked when she saw him still sat on one of the outdoor benches, blissfully unaware of the onslaught of snow about to be sent his way. She pulled out her wand and pointed it at one fo the snowballs beside her feet. “Wingardium Leviosa,” she whispered, watching as it raised a few feet into the air. She thought back to the hours she’d spent trying to perfect this particular charm and realised it had all been for this.
With enough focus, she was able to levitate the snowball directly above Ross’ head before letting it fall directly on top of him. Within seconds, she was back hidden by the thick trunk of the tree, hands tightly covering her mouth to stop the laughter which wanted to escape. She almost succeeded, might have done any other day. But the stark contrast of the pure joy she felt in that second and the less than pleasant day she’d had, weakened her usual composure and had her in a fit of giggles she wasn’t quite able to contain.

Revenge is Best Served Frozen
While he was far more of a fan of the rain, it was not as if he would complain with a couple more snow days. School was out, and so was he. As soon as that last class was dismissed, Ross had practically darted out of the building. Now, snow days were not peculiar whatsoever. In fact, they were relatively normal this time of year. There was no reason to be so excited, and that was true. He was not excited- no, he was avoiding something. His potions homework. He despised it with the rage of a thousand suns. He wanted nothing more for it to erupt into flames and claim his non-existent dragon ate it; however, he could not. Instead, he could procrastinate: And procrastinate he planned to do.
As soon as he made it outside, he quickly found while he was in his winter robes they could not nearly maintain the heat he needed to procrastinate in peace. Especially his shoes- with how deep the snow was, it seemed water could easily leak in through the soles. In an attempt to save his socks from getting soggy, he had made a dash to a nearby bench and allowed himself to become comfortable on it. He threw his legs to the side of the bench so they would not be touching the ground, keeping his socks nice and dry. At least this could be his excuse- he got stuck on a bench. Carefully, he placed his leather bag that contained all of his books in it down next to him on the bench- he had far too many valuables in there for it to get soaked. Leaning against his bag, he allowed himself to daze off. To not be as concerned with the world and his homework while he could.

A freezing sensation hit the top of his head, falling down onto his lap. He let out a tiny, girl-like yelp as it hit him. It took him a moment to realize he had suddenly clung to his bag out of being startled before letting go of it. He looked up to the sky, only to notice it was completely clear and as beautiful as always. now, Ross had learned a multitude of things since he had first arrived at Hogwarts. Specific charms, people prefer not to be treated as 'games', the history of wizard xenophobia, and more. However, the most important thing he had learned? Hogwarts weather was bipolar. Just as he had thought the snow was clearing up three days earlier, suddenly a downpour of it had come the day prior coating practically everything was outside. There was no consistency, and if one planned on there being consistency then they clearly were not planning hard enough.
Even so, he did not think it was that bipolar. This was a mystery- a mystery for DETECTIVE ROSS STEPHENS himself. He stood up on the old bench, brushing off the snow on him while he was at it. It was compact... it had to be manmade. But who could have...?
a laugh. A fit of laughter. Ross hastily looked to the side. Perhaps... tree-made? no no.. trees did not have such familiar laughter. Unless... A smug grin crossed his face. Toffee? Perhaps he would have a better procrastination excuse. Getting on his knees on the chair, he reached down to grab a bit of snow and compacted it into a ball. His hand was freezing, but this was going to be worth it. He reached into his pocket, pulling out his trusty wand. Creating a horseshoe with his wand, he tapped the snowball.
"Engorgio." he mumbled as it grew tenfold its original size.
He stood back up, getting into his best attempt of a fighting position with his wand and snowball in hand, ready to launch.
"I dunno if you or that tree did it Toffee, but someone did it! one of ya better come forward!" he exclaimed, attempting to sound threatening, ready to launch his snowball as soon as she showed her face.
