APPEARANCE
Hazel radiates warmth - from her personality to her appearance, this girl is a palette of warm tones. With deep, chocolate eyes, brown skin, and golden cinnamon curls, there isn't a cold color on her body. Freckles scatter like stardust over her cheeks from her summers in the streets of Kensington, though they're faded with winter's touch. She's young, but will always have a round face with large eyes, a low nose bridge, and full lips. She will always fall on the short side of height, but it won't make her any less stubborn or bubbly. She's often barefoot in the comfort of the dormitory, and her robes are usually falling over her body in some odd way (as she isn't used to the heavy fabric), so she's constantly tripping over them. Her ears are double pierced, an odd dream of hers from a young age. She had to save up the money to get them, and is rather proud of it, though she doesn't wear anything more than simple studs.

PERSONALITY
supportive - humble & shy - reliable & patient - takes things too personally - imaginative & observant - represses her feelings - enthusiastic - overloads herself - loyal & hardworking - reluctant to change - good practical skills - too altruistic
Hazel's personality is usually steadfast and straightforward: amicable, loyal, headstrong, and shy, she rarely wavers from this line. On her best days, she's all smiles and cheesy grins; curious and daydreaming her time away. Introverted but excited, Hazel loves to stay close to her friends. When she's left alone, she might look rather lost.
However, some qualities deviate ever so slightly: she was raised as an only child, and therefore, isn't used to sharing intimate space with others. Noise and background static are all fine, but there's a certain discomfort about her when she's in the dormitory with others. This jostles with the curiosity that scrambles to the forefront of her mind at the sight of her room, but nonetheless - her friendly nature stalls just a bit in the face of intimate space, as she is rather touch neglected and unfamiliar with intimate gestures.
Another side of the coin in her childhood was learning to care for herself - Hazel is well adjusted to keeping the house clean and making her own meals. The idea of walking into the Great Hall with lunch at the ready is beyond foreign to her. Her responsibility tends to stretch past these limits, but will generally manifest when she's older. Instead, she gives the air of a child who grew up a little too fast - as much as one can show it when they're twelve years old.
On the final side of her coin lies her temper. This comes with the territory of repressed emotions, and not properly learning to cope with her childhood experiences. She refuses to unburden her problems on other people, as her Mother would usually tell her to keep to herself or grow up. As a result, Hazel has the beginnings of an explosive temper, if she's pushed far enough. Part of it is childish anger, while the other part packs a punch twelve year olds shouldn't have.

PRE-HOGWARTS HISTORY
Born as the only daughter of Aurora and Phaethon Caelum, Hazel is from a strong line of talented and pureblood wizards. Unfortunately, her parents quickly gave her up for adoption only months after she was born. Rumors floated amongst the friends of her parents, whispering that they had given their baby daughter to muggle's social services and refused to give them her full name. It was an act of desperation and love - something Hazel wouldn't discover for many years.
The story of her parents was short and not uncommon in the day; the War of 1998 had left the wizarding world scarred and turbulent. Dark wizards lurked in the shadows for years after the final days of the Dark Lord - and some had vendettas they ached to satisfy. The Caelums were a young, fresh couple in those days, and spent the next few years in an unstable, chaotic pattern life, jumping from Edinburgh to Liverpool and every city in between. In October of 2007, they were exhausted, and could sense the impending weight pressing upon their safety. Fearing for their daughter's life, they whisked her away to the Kensington district in London, hoping they would return one day to see their daughter. Unfortunately, that time would never come for them.
From then on, Hazel would grow up thinking of herself as a muggle in a low-income household. She knew very little of the world outside London; even after she was adopted at the age of two. To this Hazel solved by daydreaming and reading, hoarding the old books her primary school teachers let her have. From this stemmed a passion of reading - and with it, a passion for her imagination, which led to art.
At age six, Hazel's Mother started to take longer shifts at her multiple places of work. Hazel was left with the instructions to stay inside after dark and keep the doors locked; and to turn off all the lights before she went to bed. It was during this time that Hazel began to lose a little bit of her childhood: providing food for herself when she was hungry and cleaning up when she wasn't told to. When she was eight, her Mother started to do overnight and early morning shifts, virtually removing herself from the household for a few days at a time. Hazel taught herself how to ride a bike. She ventured out to the parks of West Kensington, and would stare inside the windows of candy shops to pass her time. When her mother was home, Hazel would talk about her experiences, despite her mother not responding. They didn't speak of Hazel's biological parents, and they didn't talk about the difference in their last names. In fact, had Hazel stayed for much more of her childhood, she might have lost the ability to fruitlessly talk at any object, participation willing or not.
Frankly, by the time Hazel turned eleven, she was tall enough to use the stove. She could bike to the store and pick up the groceries on her own with the cash Mother left on the counter. She would draw with sidewalk chalk on the steps and pavement outside, taking money out of her weekly allowance to buy more chalk when she ran out. She began to notice the bizarre coincidences (flying newspapers, wiggling picture frames, sparking wall sockets) happen more frequently. Not a week later, she received a strange letter that had showed up in their fireplace, inviting her to a school of magic.

PLOTTING & INTERACTIONS
Hazel is free to interactions, but she comes of as a little touch-sensitive and easily spooked. She's used to living on her own, so she might find some interactions odd or unfamiliar, such as childhood games or jokes. She's also very new to the wizarding world, and is startled by practically everything enchanted.
Plotting is open to nearly everything, except for romantic interests. Background plotting is a hesitant maybe, because there are so many things that could be twisted due to her beginnings in foster care. But it's a little more complicated than that because she does have a story before foster care. I'm all for hearing ideas, though!
