Name of Ability or Race/Talent that you Are Applying for: Cat's Grace

Describe why this fits your character:
Reducio
Everyone has a certain amount of gracefulness about them. It has been defined as the outward expression of the inward harmony of the soul. In a way gracefulness is to the body what understanding is to the mind. Lizzy's gracefulness is slightly different than most everyone else's however. It was never quite...right. It was, in a unique kind of way, almost magical.

Lizzy had always had a grace about her that allowed her to do many things that would have otherwise been detected. She had always been independent and let nothing stand in her way when she put her mind to something. She had a reputation for being a lone wolf. She never had cared about befriending everyone she met, and she definitely didn’t surround herself with random people just for the sake of having some company. She was sometimes considered insensitive or anti-social because of independent manner. However, she wasn't anti-social, she was just quietly observing things around her. Whether it was other people, secrets, or just escaping other people's company, Lizzy has always been able to slip unnoticed into the shadows.

Lizzy prefers to watch other people's mannerisms before walking up and simply speaking to them. She doesn't want to befriend anyone who she barely knows anything about. Lizzy hates walking blindly into things, which is where her skill comes in handy. She is able to figure whatever it is she needs to figure out before doing it. Sometimes her teachers asked where she was when, in fact, she was sitting right in front of them. Other times, people wouldn't pass the ball or the test papers to her. They acted like she wasn't even there. She learned later on how to perfect her skills, and strategize on what to listen in on and what spots were the best for hiding in.

One time, Lizzy was being bullied by a rather obnoxious group of kids. They didn't like her independence and they had decided to chase her around the school grounds. Lizzy was running only slightly faster than them, she was out of breath and was beginning to slow down. Suddenly, she darted around the side of the building and into an impossibly small crack between two of the school's walls. She slipped as far back as she could into the shadows. When the bullies caught up with her, they looked around for her, but saw nothing. They even looked almost directly at her, but they said nothing and continued to run, searching for her. Every time from then on, when she needed to escape from other people or simply hide out and watch or listen, she was able to do so without being caught one single time.

Name of Ability or Race/Talent that you Are Applying for: Perfectionist
Describe why this fits your character:
Reducio
It had always been apparent to Julian that his parents were very smart, and not just because his grandparents and aunts and uncles often made a point of telling him so; it was evident in every part of their lives. They were professors, his dad was a scientist, their house was littered with books, and they often knew more than his teachers did about math and science and even history; they also went to museums more than anyone Julian knew.

It had also always been apparent to Julian that he was expected to grow up to be just as smart and accomplished as they were. He was expected to have exceptional grades and to remember everything he'd learnt in school or from his parents. His dad would often quiz him, and he was not an easy man to impress. It wouldn't do to rattle off a few half-formed answers. They needed to be acurate and they needed to be complete.

Some kids might've pushed against the expectations imposed on them by their parents, but not Julian. He wanted to be like them--he wanted to be smart enough to discover new things about the world and come up with new, interesting ideas that could help other people--and he wanted to be the responsible and mature boy they expected him to be. As a result, he'd always measured himself by same standards his parents set on him, hard to meet as they were. It had ingrained in him the habit of always looking to improve, and never being quite satisfied with the results of his work. He could've always be more thorough in his schoolwork, spending an extra minute or two to double-check his answers. There was always something he might've known, if he had just studied harder or paid more attention, and he spent a lot of time trying to anticipate those holes and trying to fill them.

Going to Hogwarts had done nothing to alleviate this tendency. His dad seemed disappointed that Julian would not grow up to be the little scientist he'd envisioned, and it had only driven to Julian to prove him wrong. During his first year at Hogwarts, he'd thrown himself into his studies, determined to keep his grades impeccable and gain a good understanding of how magic worked, so he could prove to his dad that it wasn't really that different. And the one way in which magic was different--the practical aspect--he'd made extra sure to pay attention to, practising movements and incantation over and over again until he could be certain that any spell he knew, he'd be able to cast, regardless of circumstance. One day, when he was grown up enough for it to be allowed, he'd show his dad just how useful magic could come in.

It seemed that beauty held a frightening power over most people. If not an industry’s clever manipulation of insecurities to buy a product with promises of good looks, it was a not-so-subtle push of an attractive face to fame. Years ago, a more naïve version of Phaedra would have only glanced at those superficial aspects herself, but with age came the understanding that beautiful things could still bite and maul a person no matter how perfect it seemed. You couldn’t commend the rose but ignore its thorns. It was a difficult pill to swallow for many.

Human nature was to gravitate towards loveliness. A collector of rare antiques, an artist with a penchant for landscapes, a jeweler’s work featuring shimmering gemstones; they all flocked to their chosen like moth to flame. Even if the lovely thing was a person, human nature did not lessen in its desire to appeal and keep the person around to gawk at. Over the years, she’d come to realize that favours and sweet words were a common sight at the feet of beautiful people. Phaedra vowed to never resort to such a humiliation. What had they done to deserve such admirers other than some luck in the genetic lottery?

No, she would not find herself swayed by appearances alone. Instead, Phaedra prized attitude. Competence, intelligence, will, and drive were just a few of many internal traits that she deemed desirable, and personal accomplishment spoke leagues louder than the aesthetic beauty partly-attributed to a person’s parentage. Personality and history, including their turmoil and subsequent prevail was what made a person, and if a pleasant face came along as a piece of the pie, as it often did, then that was just fine. She could note symmetrical features or an inclination for style and fashion like any other. She knew what beauty was and certainly how much the world valued it. But it ended there. Her appreciation was done in a manner that it could not consume her nor cloud her judgment. There was no good in a pleasant face without any substance beneath the surface. Anything and anyone’s malicious intents could be obscured—her snooping on countless private gatherings between her father and his associates as a child was a first realization at how convincingly the façade of appearances could mask inner ugliness.

Caution was a necessity in a world where witches and wizards could change their faces at will. If not blessed with the innate ability to do so, there still existed a variety of brews with the same goal in mind. Phaedra knew her potioneer mother to have concocted several to ease away what she personally considered minor, but still charming “imperfections”; a deepening smile line naturally acquired through age, a grey hair found at the temple of the woman's head. It didn’t make her love her mother any less, but it was rather taken as a confirmation that especially among wizardkind, physical allure was never quite as it seemed.

Jack has always placed an emphasis on doing the best he can in learning and exceeding in all his classes. In fact, he works even harder to make sure that this is not common knowledge. One way he manages this is by teaching himself lessons and doing class assignments ahead of time so he can appear to goof off or daydream or otherwise not pay attention in class and yet turn in excellent results at the end of the class period. He does this to ensure that he will not be targeted for bullying or by others seeking to compete with him as one of the best in the class. This is also why, although he is a Prodigal Charms Learner, he does his best to hide this from his fellow schoolmates and practices on his own.

This boy is far too prideful to allow his spells to get out of hand when he means to do them for real and isn't just pretending to mess around or seem incompetent. For this reason, he is very careful to learn and research his spells properly when studying them for real on his own and without any distractions like the distraction of class. This is another reason he studies outside of class; because during class time, he is too distracted by others to pay his studies the time, effort, and attention he usually likes to devote to them. From seeking out the roots of the etymology of each spell's incantation to learning the colors of lights when spells are cast, Jack is very meticulous about studying magic and learning in the classroom simply doesn't allow the time or peace he needs in order to fulfill his studies to his greatest satisfaction.

Due to having seen what backfiring spells can do during critical situations over the course of his dangerous school career, Jack is particularly determined not to fall victim to a backfired or otherwise failed spell. It is for this reason he is especially tenacious about not just learning but mastering each spell he teaches himself, whether one that's part of his year's curriculum or a charm he's learning ahead of his year as a Prodigal Charms Learner. He cares dearly about his closest companions and is not willing to risk even the slightest chance of them getting hurt on his watch. Having spent years attempting to master his emotions under difficult or tense circumstances, he has gradually learned to stay calm and become a perfectionist in all that he does; especially magic-related actions.

Name of Ability: Blindvision

Describe why this fits your character:
Reducio

Selim is an insomniac.

This is well-known within his dorm, He rarely sleeps, he tries to, he really does, but his mind never stops moving. He fears sleep, a fear born of constant nightmares and not-uncommon visits from sleep paralysis, sleep paralysis demon and all.

Some might even call it a phobia.

This isn't helped by his unwillingness to take potions, even fro sleep, they give him bad reactions. Not physical, just mental ones, born from something happening in his past that gives him an aversion to them. So, as a result, unless he learns magic well enough to cast a sleeping spell on himself without risk (Highly unlikely), or goes through some very thorough therapy (he had some over the summer, it helped him get a bit more sleep than usual nowadays), the insomnia isn't going to go away.

As a result, he is often awake during the night, when lights are out, and everyone's asleep. At home and at school he had to learn to navigate the dark without a wand, because he's terrible at magic and doesn't trust even a simple lumos to backfire on himself.

It sucks but insomnia isn't exactly uncommon in Hogwarts, which makes sense because Hogwarts in and of itself is probably heavily tied to some trauma students have due to events happening in it. Fires, shadow people, dolls that sew your eyes and mouths shut, choking on toxic gas, hags... fires, just, a lot of things.

So, as a result of this combined with frequenting the dingy dungeons in his free time, Selim had to learn how to navigate the night and shadows. This wasn't helped by his instance of wearing a mask with a limited field of vision either. When one has a rabbit mask constantly upon one's face with such a downside, they kind of have to learn not to bump into people and/or things.

Before he was adopted he spend many of his nights in darkness wandering his family's compound as well. So, he had a bit of experience with navigating his way around things without sight.

All this combined made him rather confident without his sense of vision. It was born of necessity, so he learned to get a sense of his surroundings with his other senses, touch, hearing, smell. He listens to the way sound bounces off of objects, where sounds originate from. He feels shifts in air currents, how it brushes against his skin, or even simply just running his hands along walls. He uses scents as well, smelling the fire from torches, or the aroma of food from the great hall or from the kitchen, perfume, cologne, even body odour (Because we all know that this, in the end, is a high school, full of barely-teens or preteens), or deodorant. He's no werewolf though, so his sense of smell isn't relied on as much as hearing and touch.

It took a long time to get to the point he is now though, years of mastering the night honed his skills. During that time he often rammed into things or faceplanted after tripping over a stray root or rock (Much to the amusement of his older brother he often regaled his nightly excursions to). Rather hilarious and humbling. Those incidents ended up also motivating him to see without vision.

I mean, if your older sibling or older friend constantly held those stories over your head to taunt you, you'd also be motivated to not eat dirt every night. After all, dirt isn't very appetizing.

In the end, he became quite skilled at navigating his surroundings blind, and he still has space to make it into fine art, a trick of his trade.

His trade being a student living in Hogwarts with hags, sadistic vodoo dolls, living shadows, and students way too interested in fire....

Yeah, you need every skill you can get in such a deathtrap.

Name of Ability or Race/Talent that you Are Applying for: Paragon of Health
Describe why this fits your character (not why you the player want it):
Since she was born, Nicky spent a lot of time around her grandparents. Before they retired, they often took her with them to work since her mother was working really hard to make ends meet and support her family. She was always fascinated by the sight of them working - it was like a miracle, people came to the hospital when they were not feeling well and her grandma and grandpa almost always found a solution to their problems. She learned a lot about first aid and healing those days, even though she was only four years old. And her interest in the subject continued even when her grandparents weren't working anymore. She often talked to them about the cases they had while working at the hospital, asked them questions about treatment for various ilnesses. Sometimes, they would give her examples of the simpler medical cases they had and made her work out a diagnosis. When she figured it out it made her extatic almost, it was like a doctor game that all kids like to play, only it was real. Her grandma and grandpa encouraged her thirst for knowledge and always reminded her how important it was to be able to help others. She was always the one in charge of keeping their family's first aid kit in order and treating all of her siblings' bruises, cuts and common colds (under her grandparents' strict supervision). When she was eight, her family went camping in the countryside. a few of her aunts came along and brought their kids with them. Everything was going fabulously and everybody had fun until Nicky got lost and dislocated her ankle after accidentally falling down a steep hillside. However, she managed to put the bone back into its joint like her grandfather had taught her and waited patiently for her relatives to find her.
She is used to always carrying around band-aids and pain pills in her pockets - who knows when she might need them. When she sees a hurt person or animal she always tries to help them unless the injury is way too complicated to treat - in that case she just calls for help. She has a stack of biology encyclopedias and medical books under her bed - both muggle and magical. She likes to read them before bed when she goes to sleep sometimes. She is not sure if she would like to dedicate her life to healing, she might be much more suitable for a job that requires more creativity, but it is definitely a huge part of her life and it will always stay that way.

Name of Ability or Race/Talent that you Are Applying for: Evasive Maneuvers
Describe why this fits your character (not why you the player want it):
Since she was a child, Nicky has been extremely hyperactive. She moves like lightning when she feels like it (which means most of the time) and it is very hard to track her movements when she is running around in excitement. She is incredibly small for her age - only 4'11 and has a rather thin build so that makes her almost weightless and she flutters around like feather or bounces like a ball - whichever metaphor one likes most. She notices several things at once and manages to process what is going on before everyone else around her does. Even when she is sleepy, tired or not feeling well her reflexes are quicker than those of most people. She has always enjoyed being fast - it is like a constant game of tetris to her where all the smallest things in the world around her come together at the speed of light like small bricks, putting together a very beautiful puzzle. She can look at a page in a book for one second and already memorize the title, the first and the last sentence, and the pictures drawn there. When she was little, her brother used to turn this into a game and made her recite multiplication tables by heart after looking at them for exactly one second. Before she started going to Hogwarts, she often played dodgeball with her siblings, and she was almost impossible to hit. She probably gets that from her mother who is just as hyperactive, agile and overexcited despite her rather mature age. In most of their family's dodgeball games, everybody was out after round four except for Nicky and her mother and everyone just stood around watching while the two went on dodging and throwing for hours on end. Sometimes they had to make a break for dinner and then continue until one of them finally managed to hit the other. The longest match they had went on for approximately four hours. When most people who played the game with them didn't even have a chance to notice what hit them, for Nicky it was like the ball was flying in slow motion almost and she always knew in which direction to step or jump before it pierced the air right next to where she was standing. At some point, her brother even drew a small caricature of Nicky as a grasshopper in a Superman suit because he always admired how agile she was.
Her quick reflexes also improved immensely while she was playing Quidditch as a second string chaser for the Gryffindor team (even though there was barely any room for improvement).

Name of Ability or Race/Talent that you Are Applying for: Fearless
Describe why this fits your character (not why you the player want it):
Nicky has never been afraid of anything really. As a child, she was safe, loved and protected so there was no need to experience fear. The only time she remembers when she got scared was when her mother told her that her father had passed away and she realized how fragile life really was. She was scared that her mother and grandfather and grandmother and Frank and Lynete could also be gone in an instant at any moment and when her mom was putting her to sleep she started crying. But her mother took her little hands in hers and told her that she was right there and being afraid never helped things. She was scared too, she said, way back in the past, until she understood that she could never under any circumstances change the inevitable things that were about to happen to her, but she could control her reaction to them, she could always be ready to overcome any difficulties that life was going to throw her way. And that helped her not to be afraid anymore. Nicky was only three at the moment but she thought a lot about what her mother had said and she decided that she was also going to stop being scared since it would only make everything worse. Fear would not only paralyze her in a critical situation and deprive her of the ability to solve her problems, it would also turn into a troublesome nasty habit, it would slowly invade every part of her life and she would slowly lose the ability to live in the moment, be happy about everything around her and enjoy the things she had. It would be like constantly living with a dementor around, or many dementors, depending on the number of fears she would acquire overtime. To be exact, it would be like living in Azkaban all her life, only she would be the one to put herself there, and she didn't even commit any crimes, nor was she about to do anything wrong. She refused to subject herself to this pointless kind of torture and made a firm decision that she would not be afraid of anything. Since then, every scary thing that happened to her, every problem she had, she viewed not as something nerve-wrecking and paralysing but a puzzle to be solved, an obstacle to be overcome, and she was convinced in her ability to withstand the effects of fear.

The first healing spell lesson that Rose ever had, she couldn't really help but fix her posture as her professor began to explain how the spell worked. It sparked some strange obsession of interest in her that she hadn't felt so strongly for a type of spell before. This was an opportunity for her to help people, for her to put her magic to good use. It was a kind of magic that seemed so innocent, so inherently good, so ethical and unable to be corrupted, that Rose couldn't help but give all her interest and focus to it the moment that she first learned about it. When she tried the spells, she seemed to be a natural at them, getting them right the very first time. Usually Rose had to try at least twice to get a spell right, but these ones came easily, like she had been doing them all her life.

Maybe it was in her heart- the way that she really wanted to do good in the world, help people, that healing people just seemed so appealing to Rose. Her empathy that seemed to be ingrained in her heart just pulled her to want to help people, and healing spells were a perfect way to do that. Biology had been her favorite thing to learn about in Muggle school, even if the lower grades didn't go into it much. Sometimes, when she thought of her father, she pulled out some books on biology and how the body worked, fascinated by all the inner workings of a human, and the intricate design that laid inside her very breathing. Because of her knowledge, maybe she knew a little more how the spells worked.

Maybe it was in her blood. Her mother was a healer at St. Mungo's, after all. Even though Rose would never take a moment to consider it as an option, maybe she had inherited a talent of healing from her mother, who had been incredibly interested with it ever since she started learning magic. Rose, sometimes, was tempted to ask how her mother healed certain things. After the healing class, she had started considering sending her mother an owl asking the woman her wide variety of questions on the topic.

Maybe it was in her wand. Chestnut wands were known for being good at Herbology. Though Rose had never had Herbology as her favorite subject, she had never been bad at it, and the plants that possessed healing powers seemed to intrigue her more than the others did. It is possible her wand could have leaned toward healing properties, when she had bought it more than two years ago, and it hadn't had a chance to come out and show it until now, now that she knew a healing spell.

It could be a combination of all three, though Rose supposed she would never truly know. Whatever the reason, Rose was a healing sage.

It seemed that, for many people, a quick and simple judge by her face gave the impression that Elisabeth was one people pleaser who depended on others to decide what she would do.

Little did they know that the opposite was correct: yes she liked to make others happy, but she was also very strong-willed and stubborn. What she had set her heart to, that she would do. She would never change her mind unless she herself had carefully thought and decided why her initial plan had to be altered. Petty things, such as someone's status, charm, or physical look, were not among the influence that could make her alter her decision.

Yes, the girl did enjoy aesthetic and art, even considered them important aspects in her life and among things that shaped her into who she was today. However, it stopped there. Beauty, charm, and the like were to be enjoyed and may be used as a medium to express oneself, but she was adamant that they should never - not even once - be a factor to decide what a person ought to do, particularly if the decision about to be taken was a crucial one.

Elisabeth was also terribly loyal to her cause, her values, and her loved ones. If someone dared try attacking any of these things so precious to her, she would attack; not to hurt the person though, but instead to protect what was irreplaceable to her. Gosh, she would even do it if the attacker had been a king, a president, or the winner of Miss Universe pageant.

Speaking about physical appearance, for the Hufflepuff attractiveness was a very subjective matter, and somehow she also found what most people considered nice-looking would usually become a "mundane" or even "fake" for her. For instance, whereas most teen girls her age started to consider using cosmetics to boost their appearance, Elisabeth was quite happy to stay away from these products unless for formal occasions; she thought that they costed a terrible sum of money and applying them was a waste of time. Thus, she secretly considered people who wear make-up every day were... well, stupid. And those who applied excessive, non-natural looking make-up? "Fake beauty. Who on earth is born with such red lips that makes her look like she's just drunk blood?" (Elisabeth hated red lipstick.)

The same applied to people who shopped for expensive clothing pieces: "That amount of money can be donated to a good cause instead, right?" Comfort over style, that one principle was held by the second year as she chose her own clothing: she just could not understand how someone would torture oneself by wearing clothes they themselves would complain about at the end of the day.

Hunter's father was a potioneer, and he'd be out of the house for varying amounts of time in search of potion ingredients. His father would scourage the world from local and distant locations in search of old ingredients to sell, and would be filled with hope to find new ingredients to test out himself. Whenever Hunter's father would be home, he'd tell Hunter all of the amazing adventures and places that he visited and the sort of trouble he'd get himself into. Unfortunately, Hunter's father didn't brew many potions while he was home, nor did he want to force his knowledge of potions on Hunter in fear he'd be forcing his son down a rather dangerous path; although, what Hunter's father didn't know was that Hunter was fascinated by potions. The adventures his father would tell him filled him with excitement and curiosity on the endless possibility brewing such concoctions could bring. Some would be grossed out from the collection of leeches in bogs, afraid to collect the heart of alligators, or wonder how one even collects a dragon's liver. Hunter's father unintentionally encouraged his son down a path of brewing potions, the only issue was who could train the young boy? Hunter's father did have a workroom of his own, but over time it was used less and less, within the small cottage Hunter and his family lived in. Also, most (if not all), the books, notes, cauldrons, scales, and many more items were a complete mess. Scales and cauldrons were either messy, cracked, or broken. Books were filled with sloppy handwritten notes that covered most of the original writing to which certain books became practically illegible. Notes and a journal were also found with sloppy writing, and sometimes appeared as if they were written in an unfamiliar language. The only items that appeared neatly untouched were the vials and cases of potion ingredients. Hunter had high hopes though, and dreamed of cracking his father's writing to learn the ways of potion brewing. His interest never did go unnoticed though, for his grandmother was always in the house with him. Hunter's grandmother is the mother of his father, and is potentially the reason Hunter's father is a potioneer, for she is one herself (retired though). She was already homeschooling Hunter in basic education, so she saw no wrong in teaching him a bit more in the family trade. She and Hunter spoke, and both came to an agreement: If Hunter kept his father's workroom clean and kept up in his studies at home, then she promised to teach him about brewing potions every Friday. Hunter was more than motivated to comply, he was ready for whatever his Grandmother was bound to show him.
