Name of Ability or Race/Talent that you Are Applying for: Prodigy Potions Learner
Describe why this fits your character (not why you the player want it):
Tristan Theramin

Tristan is the pureblood heir of the noble and most ancient house of Theramin. Thus he was privately tutored from a young age alone in London. He was quite an intellectual by the time he entered Hogwarts almost on par with Sherlock Holmes or so he believed. This wasn’t due to any arrogance of the sort, he had been tested after all. Interestingly enough, one of his most conducive subjects was potions and the muggle counterpoint of chemistry. Yes, he is a pureblood, but he is one of the few who actually understand that muggles are far superior in intellectual thought and entrepreneurship. His tutor often commended that Tristan understood the basis behind Potions quite thoroughly enough to leap ahead in the curriculum at Hogwarts perhaps. With this commendation, in two years he had read through all he could on the subject of chemistry and potions, eager to please the professor at Hogwarts and in the deepest of his heart, perhaps his parents who he hadn't seen for some time. He knew from the textbooks that bezoars come from the stomach of a goat, and that belladonna flowers were quite poisonous. He also knew that potions were quite a powerful magical subject, able to influence human behavior without a struggle.
So the year before Hogwarts started, Tristan read ahead on the potions curriculum at Hogwarts, observing his tutor stirring, decanting and curing the potions he would learn the next year. Tristan of course attempted to brew his own potion but was of course scolded for not taking the correct precautions nor alerting his tutor of his plans. However beyond that, Tristan was quite intelligent in potions and quite suited to an accelerated overview of potions. Without a doubt potions would be one of his easier classes, though he was of the opinion that most of them would already be easy to him. Perhaps it would not be, perhaps it would not. However, his intellectual skills were not to be underestimated, after all it was his escape from the memory of his friend dying when he could have been saved. Studying was a desperate distraction from the rest of the world, and it was easier to hold a mask when his mind was far greater than others, quite easy to be condescending, and quite easy to learn that skipping ahead was a benefit. It was better at least then being cast of a social group. It was better to be alone. Alone protects.

Ability Requested: Muggle Condition
Reason why it first my Character:

Arden was born to a simple loving family. His mother, A muggle though he didn't such a term existed while she was still alive, and his father who never told him that they were a wizard. Arden was raised with muggle toys, colored blocks into the appropriate holes and coloring books books at first. Eventually nerf guns and other such toys where he started to work on his aim.

When his mother got sick, his parent's didnt have the time to always play with him so he would go outside and play. Around this time is when he started to pick up the rugby ball and playing other sports. Usually with himself, but sometimes the neighbor kids. He kept hoping that if he was good enough, fast enough, scored enough it would make his parent's smile. They didn't smile so much these days and Arden didn't really understand why. So he kept trying to get better. Passing more, running faster, trying to be better than the other kids. Always eager to try to get the attention of his parents to show them how good he was.

When his mother eventually passed, Arden was broken up, but his father was destroyed. Getting angry, sad, falling apart. Arden didn't have time to grieve himself, instead he needed to be strong for his dad. Dragging him out to events, making him go places so he didn't stew.

Eventually going to junior rugby practice together turned into practicing together at home. Now more than ever Arden was doing his best to make his dad proud of him. If he did good enough, played hard enough, did well enough in school, was a good enough son eventually his dad would have to cheer up...right?

Then, during a junior game Arden had the ball and was running to score when he was being headed off. There was no way he was getting passed untouched. So he turned, passed back and threaded the needled between two players to a teammate. He got his flag ripped off his belt, but the teammate managed to get by and score, and his team won the game. the look of pride on his dad's face. The smile. It made Arden feel so good, the best he felt since his mom passed.

Now, he just needed to keep up that level of performance. Keep doing better, keep playing harder, keep practicing more. He needed to keep pushing himself more and more, be the best he could be in everything he did.

Even after his magic revealed himself, and Arden started trying to learn about the magical community. Spells, and creatures, and what have you. The thing always at the front of his mind was his performance at sports. What a boon, that Wizards had quidditch. Passing the quaffle back and forth while flying through the air. Making goals by throwing the pall through little rings while dodging metal balls or being knocked off the broom. That was going to take hard work.

It was hard work he was willing to do though. Arden was determined to be the best. School, Rugby, Magic, Quidditch. it didnt matter what. He needed to be the best not for him, but for his dad, And Arden wasn't going to let him down.

Name of Ability or Race/Talent that you Are Applying for: Metamorphmagus

Describe why this fits your character:

The earliest known link to the metamorphmagus ability in Allegra’s history comes from Samuel Gibbins, who lived during the 1700s. He was noted as a master of disguise, and known to have worked as a double agent taking down dark wizards, around 1765-1780. There is mild circumstantial evidence to suggest he may have been involved with the dark wizards themselves, but this evidence is unproven. It is mostly accounts from what appears to be gossip-mongers and conspiracy theorists telling stories to stir up drama. From Samuel Gibbins, one can trace a number of metamorphmagi who have existed since, with the most recent being Cadenza Steinway, Allegra’s mother. Cadenza was the first metamorphmagus after the ability skipped four generations, and there are also other metamorphmagi from other lines of descent.

Cadenza Steinway was a gifted pianist who performed to wizards and muggles alike. In the wizarding world, she was famous for incorporating her shapeshifting ability into her performances. Combined with this, Cadenza incorporated one specific form of wandless magic, where she would generate colourful light around her, that changed with the progression of the music. Because of her unique way of performing, Cadenza became known as “The Pianist With A Thousand Faces.” If performing to muggles, Cadenza did not change her appearance, nor use the colours. Instead, she used muggle make-up to alter her appearance, and frequently complained that their cosmetics were never as good as using magical means.

When Allegra was born, it was uncertain if she would inherit Cadenza’s gift or not. From a young age, she displayed an interest in the piano and began taking lessons. It wasn’t until Allegra turned seven years old that small changes began to manifest. It started very subtle - brown eyes becoming a deep blue, for a moment so brief one might have imagined it. But the most prominent display happened during a piano lesson when she was eight years old. When her fingers landed on the keyboard, her appearance shifted. Her hair extended down her back and onto the floor; her eyes turned blue; her features became more bird-like and elegant. Similar to Cadenza, she was surrounded by an aura of different coloured light as magic poured out of her.

Over the next three years, Allegra’s changes in appearance grew more frequent. They manifested in accordance with her mood. If she felt shy, her appearance would become dull and understated. If she was happy, her hair would curl and her eyes would widen. Occasionally, but not always, her appearance shifted while she played the piano. As her piano playing improved, the shifts started to happen more often.

Because the Steinways lived in London, and performed to both muggles and wizards alike, Allegra was warned by her mother: “Do not let your appearance change in front of the muggles.” Although Allegra understood why, the magic in its early stages came and went of its own accord, and there were times when she slipped up and had to cover herself. Muggle children her age saw her as gifted, but odd, and could never work out why they felt unsettled at times when they looked at her. Because of this, children backed away from Allegra, and she began to feel lonely, turning to the piano for comfort instead of friends.

As such, she awaited the day she would receive her Hogwarts letter, so that she could go somewhere that people understood her ability. There, she hoped to learn to control it, and even follow in her mother’s footsteps by using it in her performances. And perhaps - she thought - if she could change her appearance, she could hide the worse parts of herself, the parts that people found odd, and masquerade as someone else, even if just for a bit.

Always keep your enemies on their toes.

Unless your enemy happens to be a ballerina. Then, that is where they are strongest.

Anastasia Beckett has done ballet nearly as long as she has been flying, which is to say, a very long time. As far back as she can recall, her days were taken up with dance lessons and flight practice. While other people's childhoods may have been full of mud pies and eating paste, tutus and tendus filled Anastasia's. While she never entirely had an option not to dance, she enjoyed it vastly more than the other skills her parents insisted that she learn, such as painting, singing, or sewing. However, truth be told, as much as she enjoys dancing, she values it more as cross-training for Quidditch. Her logic is that, if she is able to balance on a pointe shoe box that is about the size of a matchbox and still move about gracefully, doing so on a broom is a piece of cake. Her theory proved correct in Quidditch practices and games. Her agility and quick movement from dance translated nearly perfectly to flying, making the girl as adept in the air as she is on the ground.

Like many ballerinas, she works best when kept on her toes, literally and metaphorically. She moves quickly and effectively through life and her responsibilities, never missing a beat.

Still, there are plenty of ballerinas and none are quite so evasive as Miss Beckett. The other half of her secret is she is the queen of avoiding her emotions. Any emotions that she does not like to feel, she simply avoids and refuses to talk about. Perhaps her emotion avoidance is not entirely healthy, but it has translated into a fair amount of physical agility as well. A concerned friend or family member is attempting to get her to talk about her feelings? Ana's evasion kicks in and she is out the door before anyone realizes she has moved.

Perhaps this habit of hers is not entirely healthy, but for Ana, avoiding things is nearly the same as dealing with them. This works rather well in Quidditch, where avoiding incoming attacks does in fact count as actually dealing with them. In real life, it is not quite as effective, since the things that she evades generally do not fly past her and hit someone else as a bludger might. Still, physically, Ana is nearly impossible to hit, which works well enough for her.

Along with a sharp mind, it is also better to keep a sense of awareness around you as well as Elena Jangleton has come to learn over the duration of her time at Hogwarts and back home in West Sussex. She notices things that one probably would not at first glance, what seems normal at first may seem like a very big red flag to the Gryffindor girl and while those around her and her friends might stare at the brunette like she is talking jibberish, they eventuall realize that it is her attention to detail that turned out to be their saving grace in many situations. The girl has develpoed an apitude for noting such things having learned a few lessons from attending school and especially being wary since being involved in the train-wreck involving Gryffindor House. It was in this instance that Elena first realized her own perception skills not paying any attentio nor heeding the warnings that resulted in the traumatic situation that implemented in her a life lesson that the brunette will not forget anytime soon.

As a result of that, she takes everything with a grain of salt analyzing, gauging before plunging forward and it is something that has served her well. It is quite easy for the girl to notice things that stick out seeing as she typically is the wallflower type, not likely to attract attention which makes it easier for the Jangleton girl to utilizer her sense of perception to point out things that might seem innocent up front but in truth, are hiding a very deep, dark secret. The brunette has grown accustomed to this having been born and raised in a rather priveleged lifestyle where all her life, she knew the wall had ears, secrets were being whispered right in front of her and it would only be because of her keeness and sharp attention to little things here and there that Elena caught wind of most of what happened behing closed doors and she still keeps this attitude about most scenarios.

This skill has also served her rather well not only in a practical sense but in friendly events as well perhaps flying around on a broom or participating in activites with other students. She will glance around for anything that might give her an edge, something small, something discreet that perhaps the others would not think twice about and she would use that to give her an advantage over her competeition and it usually turns out postively for her and leaving the other party blundering and wondering how the timid girl came out on top using such primitive methods. That is the approach the girl has developed over the years, it being that if even something seems normal on the outside, it could mean a very different thing if you poke a bit deeper which is also helped by her curiosity as well but Elena is not one to simply assume all is as it should be without confirming it herself and that can sometimes led to discovries that would perhaps not be found by others as she has a more piqued interest in abnormal things than most others and that could very well be a good thing in some circumstances.

It has been quite the fun first year at Hogwarts for young Starlee. She wasn't expecting some of the insane stuff that happened, but then again, who does? However, her real biggest treasure from the year are the new friend's she has made. Her amazing Hufflepuff BFF, some new buddies in Gryffindor, and even someone from her own house, someone who Starlee looks up to as an older sibling: Cassandra Ironwoods. It seemed Starlee didn't get along with most Slytherin's, either because of their blood purism or just their mean spirited nature, but Cash was different.

Their first meeting, the pair managed to make an immediate bond, so much so that the older student took Starlee to a place that not many in the school had seen: The Chamber of Secrets. Instead of being shocked and appalled that Cash was a parselmouth, Starlee was excited, and even mad at those who would look down on such a cool thing. Of course, at the time Starlee didn't understand it was a rare gift, and that it was related to some of the horrible atrocities committed by You-Know-Who, and the likes of people like that before him. None of that mattered to her and she told the green-eyes that they were still amazing no matter what. It wasn’t that you had the power that mattered, but what you did with it.

Cash promised at the end of that meeting to teach Starlee how to speak and understand Parselmouth, and Starlee held them to it. Once a week, the pair made their way down to the Chamber, away from prying eyes, for an hour-long lesson of Parselmouth. At first, it was a frustrating ordeal for both parties. Parselmouth wasn’t a typical language like English, or even as foreign as Cash’s native Spanish, but Cash was patient enough to teach it to her. It was tough, with Starlee struggling to attempt to sputter out some jumbled hissing sounds, while Cash would sigh and get her to try again. Cash’s accent also provided some issues, but they both tried their best.

It didn’t take long for the two to finally come to grasp that Starlee would never be able to speak it. That was simply too much of an innate gift, something passed down from other generations. However, they both could see that Starlee was learning to understand certain words, so the two pressed on, Cash coming up with lists of words and Starlee listening and repeating them back to Cash in English.

The two really began to see progress just after the Winter Holiday. Just as in most languages, Starlee was beginning to pick up on the verbal cues and intonations in the language. A ‘hiss’ in a higher tone could mean something different than the same ‘hiss’ in a lower tone, and she was beginning to understand the snake’s grammar. Cash would say a word or phrase, and Starlee would immediately pick up on the tonal quality and compilation of the phrase, and would repeat back what she could. It was strange analyzing these sounds, but she pushed onward, determined to understand not just Cash, but any snake she happened to run across.

A few times in the spring, she did manage to track down some snakes out on the Hogwarts grounds, cornering them in an attempt to listen to them, and perhaps attempt some form of communication. However, it seemed that the snakes were too terrified to attempt communication, only ever hissing loudly “Let go of me!” and “Darned Human!” She ended up stopping those attempts because of both the fear and anger the snakes would have in their eyes, as well as the failure in communication. Perhaps she would just try to convince her snake hating mother to get a pet snake at home, surely that would work out.

By the end of the year, the pair had done it. Starlee could understand almost any parseltongue sentence Cash threw their way. Even if Starlee couldn't speak it back, she felt as if the two had a new secret language now: an even closer bond.

Year Three Ability: Spell Spread
Why it Fits:420 Words

Duelling has been a particularly significant part of Callie's life in Hogwarts this year. The sport has wormed its way into every corner of the young girls life, with the vast majority of her studies revolving around improving her chances in a duelling scenario. Learning for the sake of curiosity has started to take a back seat with Callie making a point to expand her duelling portfolio. Sure she still enjoys learning spells for the sake of it but when a spell provides some kind of duelling benefit? It simply scratches an itch that Callie wasn't quite aware of having.

However one aspect of spellcasting has captured Callie's interest over the course of the tournament. A unique aspect of spellcasting that has never failed to astound the girl whilst watching the rounds of both opponents and teammates. More specifically the ability to cast spells on a much grander and deadlier scale than Callie ever thought possible. Witnessing talented spellcasters like Galton and Phaedra cast in such a unique way has been inspiring to Callie to say the least. So partly out of inspiration and a pinch of selfishness Callie has sought to replicate such methods on her own and forge her own unique way of spellcasting in line with her already loud and boisterous personality.

So after a particularly nasty loss in the final stage of the tournament while practice remained empty in preparation for summer, Callie wormed her way into the familar embrace of the duelling stage to try and figure things out for herself. Once she was a nervous wreck on the stage facing down two third years but now the stage held a sense of familarity..a feeling of home. Sure it was a home where she had also been whomped quite badly but if anything that only served as inspiration to perfect her technique. Callie no longer feared failure, she embraced it as a chance to expand her own growing wealth of knowledge.

Unsurprisingly her first few attempts at replicating the techniques of Phaedra and Galton with Ventuswere met with failure. On the surface everything seemed fine but the spell simply refused to split in the same way. So Callie kept trying over and over until even thinking of the word Ventus became annoying. That is until Callie's actions grew bolder, her confidence started to rise and the pesky spell finally decided to split off into two and knock over the training dummies. Go hard or go home, that was to be Callie's mantra of the year.

Hormones. They had begun seeping into the culture of the school right from the start of Evelynn's arrival at Hogwarts. For some, it was more apparent. There were the likes of D'Spacito and Beckett; Palmer and Springhall. Even Ryan in a rather prominent way, although her reputation and explosive action tended to counteract it to some degree. One thing that Evelynn had noticed about all of these individuals—and many others—was that they always seemed to attract a lot of attention. Sometimes it wasn't always the good kind of attention, but for many of them, they had throngs of students vying for their affections, free to take their pick of the lot for their "flavour of the week", some might say. It really was beyond her. The words "boyfriend" and "girlfriend" tended to drift around the school on the breaths of tittering young students, and more than once had she overhead one gaggle of girls or another swooning over the appearance of their peers. She just didn't get it. Didn't they have anything better to do? Wouldn't their time be better off serving to work towards their grades and complete their assignments, or at least to some sort of useful outlet of their pent up energies like duelling, Quidditch, racing or any number of the other underpopulated clubs? God knew that they all could use a little extra padding and diversity. But no. Apparently for some, superficial appearance was put up on a pedestal to be lauded and praised regardless of whatever ugliness might dwell beneath the carefully polished veneer of their deceptive surfaces. Not that all such aesthetically blessed individuals had an innate lack of character for which to make up, of course; but for Evelynn, the exterior was a distraction. Something to be viewed only so far as one might look upon a lovely painting at a gallery. With appreciation, but nothing more. The real beauty of an individual lay within their past, the strife they've survived and the paths they've treaded. In the machinations of the mind. In action and ambition. Beauty was only skin deep, after all, and once that was peeled away; and, more often than not, that seemed to give them a shallow boost to their ego. No thank you. The shallow little birds that flocked to the shiny countenances could do so uninhibited for all Evelynn cared. Those things that caught and held her attention were her own pursuits and interests.

It is often said that the wand chooses the wizard. Pericles would speculate over these words for years to come, taking them to heart upon receiving his very own aspen wand with phoenix feather core. For one, he would never treat his wand like a toy. It was not spun around idly, tapped against things, nor used as a substitute toothpick. It was regarded with great care and respect. After all, the allegiance of phoenix core wands are said to be especially difficult to earn. If he was going to truly tame his, it would be best to form good habits early on. There was someone else at the school from which to draw inspiration: Headmaster Lear, who wielded an identical wood and core types to Pericles. As an impressionable child attending Hogwarts for the first time, he held this coincidence in high regard, presuming himself capable of fantastic feats if he was worthy to share a wand type with the renown adventurer. Yet young ones have a tendency to anchor their beliefs in fantasy. Like many children who look up to an adult, he believed the Headmaster was an invincible, nigh infallible being, until the fateful day in which a Bombarda Maxima backfired.

Witnessing this legendary figure being blasted back by his own spell left a mark on the lad. The haunting spectacle would fuel his determination, leading him down the path to perfecting his magic, namely through strengthening his bond with his wand. Throughout the start of school, it was used as a tool, a means to an end. It would backfire once: disarming him during a duel, almost as if deciding it had enough and chose to leap form its wielder's hand. It was then that his regard changed, considering it less of an inanimate object, more an extension of himself. Pericles had grand dreams of improving his magical capabilities, not just becoming immune to miscasts, but bizarre feats such as splitting spells into two. If he was going to dare attempt developing such a talent, he knew he had to begin by fine-tuning his fundamentals. His training between duel matches was rigorous, while his application during the duels themselves was given his heart and soul. Whether readying himself for the fight, or using magic to mend, all tasks be they mundane or combative were performed with immense focus. Forethought became second-nature: he did not cast without first considering his actions. With time, training, study and care, he would hone his abilities and tame his wand, neither of which would betray him again.
