Link to your encyclopedia thread: NERSIN WINTHROPE||FIRST YEAR||RAVENCLAW
Name of Ability that you Are Applying for: Seer
Describe why this fits your character:
It wasn't until she turned 11 that she understood what she was. Upon receiving her letter, her mother showed her the family album that dated back centuries of their family. Nerisa had been very keen on learning all that she could on why things had happened to her that she could not explain. Many a night, she spent scanning over the book, knowing that there had been a mixture of different sort of abilities.

Races and abilities are sorted throughout the book in sections. Nerisa would comb over each one to acquaint herself with them. There was one in particular that caught her attention. It was in the year 1692, and there was a woman by the name of Elinor Hatt. -ie-After doing some research on this name, she came to find out that Hatt was one of the oldest sir names in European times. Elinor was a shopkeeper within the small town of Southampton. When it came to the sick, she seemed always to know what would make them feel better, and surrounding villages would come to see her.

But Elinor also seemed to have a knack for letting people know that something would happen beforehand. One mentionable was when a hut caught fire. She had told the farmer beforehand that perhaps he needed to water down his house to ensure nothing happened. As it had been an unseasonably warm summer, not many considered this uncommon. But as time progressed, her "callings" become more relevant. She happened to be standing in a market, and reports marked in the book of seeing her eyes turn white, causing her to be immobile. Upon coming out of the trance, she quickly able to push a pregnant woman out of the way of a runaway cart that unexpectedly went around a corner.

But as the days after the incident in the village market progressed, people started to pay more and more attention to what was happening when Elinor was around. It was little things, some that came stronger than others, that she would be able to stop. An apple is falling off a vendor cart, opening the door just as someone was knocking. But in the end, it all came to be her downfall.

It was the fall of 1692 around midnight. As the men came to her door, they had expected to catch her unaware, but she was sitting in her chair, looking towards the door, and asked them, "Running late, are we?" She was burned at stake later that night. Though it has been said that she never really died, that some hear head her laughing as the fire engulfed her. Others have no recollections of her at all. She was evaporated into the night as the flames came, and the village people forgot all about her.

This made Nesin begin to realize that perhaps the things that she had dreamed of had not been de Ja Vu. Flipping back through her journals, she accounted for one instance in particular that she wrote describing an incident that she thought merely coincidental. She had had a dream dealing with her father being on a ladder, the sky has painted the colors of a rainbow as it began to set, and a feather was falling from the wing of a bird that had just flown overhead. Nesin just happened to be lying on a blanket under a tree in her front yard as her father was cleaning the gutters. She went to look at the sky, and noticed the sky color, and began to realize it was something she had seen before. Just as she went to stand a feather, she came to land on the tip of her shoe. Her eyes widen as she looked at her father. Just like in the dream, he went to go and stretch. Nesin yelled for her mother. She came running from the garage... "Catch the ladder." Was all she said. As soon as the words came out of her mouth, the ladder began to fall, and it was that moment her mother looked at her with the realization of what had just happened.

After that, tiny little things would happen throughout her childhood, but nothing as big as that moment, though her mother never spoke to her about the incident. That night that she received her letter, she had already begun to prepare to tell her of her story. That her family was a family of seers and that she could be one too.

Name of Ability or Race/Talent that you Are Applying for: Broken Broomshaft
Describe why this fits your character (not why you the player want it):
Quinn was a massive lad. He'd always been that way, probably had something to do with the fact he was a Part-Giant. Well in his specific case Half-Giant. Quinn was a beast of a lad. Being only a fourth year and already over 9 feet tall and weighing in at an astronomically high weight for a lad his age.

As he started to fill out his Half-Giant characteristics became more pronounced especially his immense strength. Something he has proved time and time again. He proved it when he broke down Professor Boniface's office door with a kick nearly shattering the door from the force. Again when he snapped that boy from Durmstrang leg and showed that he did it with relative ease. Yet again when he seemingly broke his nemesis, Erin Ryan's, wrist over a year back.

The point was that time and again. Quinn had proved his overwhelming strength and durability. It was terrifying the level of strength this young boy possessed and only added to his status as a powerhouse and threat on the Quidditch Pitch. Everyone knew of his strength and ferocity on the field as both a beater and the captain of Hufflepuff's Quidditch team. Time and again he proved his position and worth. Each hit of the Bludger was like a crack of thunder whenever his bat made contact with the Bludger. Deafening was the sound and devastating was the blow to any poor player it hit.

It was a true wonder that he never broke anyone or anything with how hard he hot the Bludger. Players fell left and right when the Bludger hit true. His arm was like a cannon and the Bludger the ball whenever he smashed it with his bat that always threatened to break with the force of impact. Everyone knew to try their best to dodge or again they'd be the ones off their broom and plummeting. It was a miracle that he'd never shattered any brooms with the force of his impacts.

Then again his aiming was always improving and strength constantly growing. The captain of Hufflepuff. Was a seeming force of nature in his role as beater. Numerous events proved this. Numerous wins solidified this, and his ever growing strength was all the evidence he needed to prove that he was one of the strongest students in school physically and one of the strongest beaters currently in play.

Describe why this fits your character (not why you the player want it:

Most days, instead of doing anything remotely productive, Wyatt would sit around, lay down on his bed, or read a book he’d already read. Something about this day, however, made him feel like that wasn’t enough. Wyatt turned to his left, and eyed one of the many stacks of books in his dorm room. He bit his lip as he decided he was going to take the day to return them all. It was about time, he thought to himself.

Right as he stood, Wyatt began regretting his decision, as he stood so abruptly his head began to ache and he got tunnel vision. Once feeling normal, the Slytherin realized it would take more than a few trips to deliver all the books, and though he knew it was all on him for allowing them to pile up like this, he did not want to take them back just yet. Because of this, Wyatt procrastinated, reading instead of bringing the books back.

He read through the first chapter of three books before he got to the Defense Against the Dark Arts textbook. He’d never been a whiz in the class but he never had any serious trouble either. He opened the book and read from his latest lesson, though he’d seen all the material before, and it was boring to look at the same words he’d already read. In order to hold the procrastination, he flipped further.

This was more interesting than what he’d currently been learning in class, he realized. Boggarts, vampires, werewolves were certainly more captivating than pixies or even ghosts in Wyatt’s eyes. He’d known about the creatures, but not as much as he was seeing in the text. He read more and more until it was late, and he heard his dormmates shuffling into their dorms, getting ready for dinner, it seemed.

Wyatt now had a real reason to go to the library, not to drop off the books, but to pick up some more. Books about all types of dark creatures, and the spells to learn to keep them at bay. After picking up a large stack of books (just to be able to put a dent in the mess), he started toward the library. After he’d returned all the books to their places, Wyatt went searching for new ones about boggarts, the first creature he wanted to study.

He grabbed two, and read them intently as he ate his dinner. He wished he’d done so far sooner.

Name of Ability or Race/Talent that you Are Applying for: Charmer
Describe why this fits your character (not why you the player want it):
In some of her earliest memories, Ana recalls conversations with her families associates. "She will be a heartbreaker when she grows up" and "Ana is a charmer, just like her mother". Ana never really understood what any of it meant, but she knew to take a compliment when she was gifted one. She had always favoured adults over peers her age, adults were more poised and confident and had all of the interpersonal skills that children her age lacked. Not only that, they gave her the attention that she so desperately craved. She could seize a room with just a smile and a twirl, she didn't even have to try. Whether that was her parent's friends trying to show interest and "get ahead", or whether that was her inherent charm was yet to be determined. However, one thing was true, she was the envy of any function she attended.

As Ana grew from a young child into a pre-teen, her talent to capture the attention of those she surrounded herself with never left her. Only now she could hold the concentration of children her age too. Her knack for entertaining and speaking to others was a stark contrast to her indrawn personality. And it was a craft as much as it was just part of her character. She was disciplined, reminded that she could be a successful woman in all endeavours she deemed fit if she applied her natural talents, advised to be relentless in all of her ambitions. She was groomed for greatness by her father, even if his counsel came in small doses. Every slouched back, every harsh comment and eye roll was heeded and she was warned from a tender age that "no one desires a woman who is inconvenient". She believed that possibly her father was correct, and so she developed.

Prideful, well-spoken, and manipulative. Ana continuously presented herself to be noticeably outspoken, sporadic, and ever-charming in her interactions with people. Ana would carry a graceful smile, always knowing what to say and how to act to appease another. It was difficult not to be enthralled by her. Yes, she was capable of speaking to even the most introverted of personalities, but her beauty was rather delicate too, enhanced with effortless features. And there was an innocence behind her eyes that managed to draw people in. Even if you tried to avoid her, you would always find yourself pulled back to Ana. She was the root of her sisters jealously, yet Ana believed that she was nothing extraordinary.

Despite all of this Ana is vulnerable and insecure, and the recognition she receives feeds her fragile ego. The silver tongue that she maintains is her most influential gift and her most consequential weapon. If her natural wit will earn the admiration of others around her, Ana has no difficulty with abusing what capabilities she has. She will dazzle a room with just a smile, she will converse with even the most grotesque of people simply to get a leg up, having them spill all of their secrets to her whilst she gives away nothing at all, still as reserved and tight-lipped as ever. After all, she was raised to believe that there is nothing sinful with stepping on others on your route to prominence, and even if there was, her morals have always been somewhat askew.

When Paris first got scratched, absolutely no one believed him. The young man had a tendency to tell tall tales- this would be one of the many instances that the tendency would come back to bite his rear end. You see, things tended to become much bigger and scarier when Paris told them. Setting a matchstick on fire turned into the entire kitchen going up in flames, developing a cold turned into cancer, four pages of homework became ten. And so, the dog which attacked him couldn't possible have had 'glowing golden eyes' and 'been the size of a small car'. It wasn't too soon afterwards that Paris forgot about it. Sure, his leg still hurt and the bandages had to be changed out quite frequently, but it was a pretty nasty bite so that was to be expected. He bled a lot. That should have been what tipped everyone off. But no one believed a thing our young man was saying.

So Cross and Paris went on with their lives after a few days, sleepovers as usual, staying up to talk about girls and talk smack about people one their quidditch team.

What wasn't usual were the loud popping sounds which came from where Paris was sleeping one night, or the increasingly heavy breathing, the groans of pain, and finally growling. Cross woke up to trashing, and the sound of cloth ripping. Ebony claws which gleamed in the low light tearing through the knitted covers which had been securely tucked around Cross' friend.

Paris wasn't a big wolf, but he was fast. And he sought blood.

Cross didn't remember how he made it out the door. The whole night was a blur really. It came back in flashes sometimes. The heavy weight on top of his chest, kicking out his legs as teeth dug into his skin, the feeling of dagger like claws trying to catch a grip on his face.

Cross' parents had been woken by the commotion. Three minutes to get the door open, two to lock Paris inside.

It was safe to say the two boys weren't left alone anymore after that. The interesting part? This was a month before Hogwarts started.

They'd already been shopping, bought all their supplies. Everyone was confused, and scared. Cross, who had been an outspoken vegetarian before the whole shebang was craving meat more and more. He hadn't said anything, least his mother would worry herself sick. But maybe the most concerning of all? Paris and Cross hadn't been allowed in the same room since.

Come the day of boarding the train, Cross had swept the whole platform looking for his friend, moving uncomfortably as some of his scars still ached. There was no Paris. He was nowhere to be seen.

Over the course of the past month, everyone has kept a weary eye on Cross. He'd been told to take his wolf's bane potion right before the full moon, and that his teachers would instruct him on what to do afterwards. His parents had seemed relieved to see him board the train.

Name of Ability or Race/Talent that you Are Applying for: Perfectionist
Describe why it fits your character:
Reducio
Violet's parents had decided since she was born to make her perfect in every way, especially when it came to studies. They hired tutors for her before she went to Hogwarts that teached her the basics of magic (without actually doing any magic herself), she saw and took notes of how to brew potions, started to read many wizarding books that interested her, and asked questions to be well informed in any subject she wanted to master. She practiced all the time, working for hours on her desk in her bedroom, writing, reading. Until her parents wish had became true: she made sure to write everything in detail, if she didn't understand something she would become extremely frustrated and would do everything in her power to understand what she misunderstood. Everything she would do was going to be perfect, and there was no point doing it if it wasn't going to be done perfectly.

Before going to Hogwarts, her parents had forced her to study more, read more, so that she would be prepared for anything she needed to study in the magical school. When Violet thought of herself going there, her brain focused upon learning everything she could, the wrongs and rights of everything, how she could fail and how she could reach perfection. Her parents would send her daily owls asking her how school was, but they didn't want to know anything about what she was doing at Hogwarts except what grades she had accomplished. If she told her parents that she wasn't doing okay in Herbology, they would send her a letter telling her that she had to study more, try harder. Violet agreed, however it leaded to frustration and pressure, which she ignored. She excelled in most of the classes, her average grade had gone from a "E" to a "O".

She became jealous of other students that were "better" than her. That is to say, if someone had learned a spell quicker than her, whether they were in a higher year or the same it didn't matter~ Violet would do everything she could to be informed of the spell. However, some students were jealous even of her talent of learning so fast, brewing potions so perfectly or casting a spell at the first try. What Violet wanted to acomplish was perfection, if there was one tiny detail that wasn't perfect, she would be frustrated and would try~ no, not try, she would definitely get better.

Since she was a child, Anja has had to sneak around. She has had to listen into conversations and not be heard, steal food from the kitchen quarters and not be seen, find out what people were doing without being found out. She has never once been found out in all the pranks she has played, and she knows so many things from her silent exploits. She always moves in a feline manner and never has she been unable to get away with something. She enjoys watching people from the shadows, and combined with her Slytherin cunning and ambition, she always uses what she find out to her advantage.

Her parents — especially her father — used her talents as much as possible. Whenever the Murtaja family would stay with another influential pureblood household, or any other household he considered useful, her father would make her sneak around and hide in closets and behind doors, spying and listening into conversations. However, even from a young age, Anja did not tell her father everything she found out, knowing that it could have detrimental effects for those she had spied upon. She did not do this out of guilt for her actions, or compassion for her targets, but because she knew all that information would come in useful for her in the future.

Aside from spying on people for her father, Anja used her strange ability to get away from the business of the estate and life. She would sneak out, unseen, through the servant’s quarters, and into the woods around her house. She would stay for ages there, unwilling to return to the manor. One day, she stayed out particularly late, and her father (along with some staff from the manor) came searching for her. She heard them approaching, and scarpered, surprisingly making no sound. Once back at the manor, she managed to lightfoot it right through the main corridors and back into her room. When her father finally returned and looked there, it was to his greatest surprise that she sat at her desk, practicing her penmanship.

Once she was at Hogwarts, the possibility for her to expand her hunting grounds and collect even more secrets exploded. She found nothing more pleasing to do in her free time than people-watching (as she calls it). She’d simply sit in a shadowy corner and not be seen, or flit from room to room, classroom to classroom, and listen to conversations and watch the goings-on of the castle. At Hogwarts, she used every part of her ability to her absolute advantage, and enjoyed it.

Rhea Miller is unafraid of most everything.

She has felt anxiety, discomfort, misery... but has trained herself to look upon them from an outside perspective rather than experiencing them firsthand, as if she is gazing at the whole situation from above. Calm and collected, reasonable and calculated, analyzing the situation and figuring out what the best possible next step is without getting too involved. She has done this many a time in crowds, or when confronted with annoying adults, or in long monotonous therapy sessions during which she is forced to confront her worst insecurities and weaknesses. And bullies. Especially bullies. She has won a lot of fights that way.

When she was first sorted into Gryffindor, the young girl was positive that there had been some kind of mistake. She was cunning, ambitious, sly; surely a born Slytherin! Even the Sorting Hat could mess up, right? That stupid thing certainly had some sort of grudge against her. However, as more time passed and she continued to research the houses (plus gain more firsthand experience with them), it occurred to her that she did have a lot of Gryffindor traits. Her ego, for one thing. She is utterly confident in her intelligence and importance, and she knows how deserving of respect she is. For another, her courage. Or, as some might say, her rash impulsiveness. Her lack of prudence and thoughtfulness.

She is plenty thoughtful. But on some occasions, she does not have the time to think everything out. It is better just to act. Either way, fear is not a contributing factor.

Typically, she uses the “looking on from above” tactic, because it is far less messy, especially in forgettable situations like those mentioned above. This recklessness only applies when faced with a truly dangerous circumstance.

Take, for instance, the incident with the frozen lake, when an acquaintance of hers fell through the ice into the freezing depths. She had tried to collect her thoughts, to analyze and calculate as usual, but everything in her mind lost its order and she couldn't think straight, so she abandoned the idea of an intellectual solution and crawled like an idiot towards the hole in the surface with the goal to jump in. To rescue the girl with her bare hands. To dive in, grab her, pull her up through the freezing water, and rescue both of them without either of them dying. It was foolish, of course. They both survived, but it was incredibly close.

Rhea experienced many emotions that day. Anxiety, shock, regret, anger; but never among them was fear.

In summary, Rhea Miller is unafraid of most everything. But not because there is nothing to fear: because she knows that fear is an unpleasant emotion (especially in genuinely dangerous scenarios), and she has learned to block it out.

Reading and studying are among your favorite activities. Since the tragic day in which you understood, you do nothing more than that. It's like gymnastics. You don't just have to be good, you have to be the best. Before you received your letter, you read and studied for school. But now that you have received it, you have taken the magic books from the house and read them. The ones that interest you most are the charms. You have read them and reread them, until you understand the charms they contain. On Diagon Alley, you certainly bought your things. But you also bought the second year charms book. I've said it before, a little bit ahead won't hurt!
You then went to Hogwarts. You have been to the charm room and to the library very often to learn other charms. What else should you do?
Your homework? Already finished for a few hours. Read? But what? To write? The same.
What interests you is to be the best and you need a topic to start! And charms interest you very much because of their simplicity and difficulty. It’s also your mother’s favorite subject. This is a fact that made you want even more.
You are sitting on your bed. It's the middle of the holidays but you stay in your room, a book on your knees. Your mother opens the door and sticks her head through the doorway.
-Lily? What are you doing? Why aren't you out there with your friends?
She wants you to go out for a bit. You got it right. But you want to read this book. You have a busy schedule today. You planned to read a few chapters of this book, practice the charms that are inside, check for the twentieth time if you have everything you need ... At the same time, you wanted to go shopping with Eden and Chiara , your friends. So you answer your mother:
-I'm shopping with Eden and Chiara just after. I may well stay here while I wait.
-Okay, but what are you doing?
Your mother definitely doesn't want to let go. You sigh but you answer in a calm voice:
-I'm reading a book of charms. And I listen to the silence.
One way for you to tell him to go. She seems to understand as she walks out of the bedroom, leaving you with your book.

Edward Carleton was in Norway for his research on the Norwegian Ridgeback when he met a beautiful woman called Eva Valtersen. He was intensely drawn to her from the start, unbeknownst to him, that pursuing a relationship with Eva would prove to quite complex, although, not too much for him to handle. After talking for a few days, Edward could tell that Eva was hiding something from him, something that seemed to be bothering her. Looking back, it seemed obvious that Eva was a vampire, but her pale skin didn't seem out of place in the Nordic mountains, and he just assumed Eva covering her mouth with her sleeve when she laughed was out of an insecurity. Or maybe he was just so in love with her that Edward subconsciously pushed this information from his mind until she told him herself.

Once their relationship began to heat up, Eva knew she had to tell Edward the truth, expecting fear as a response. However, Edward didn't mind. Unlike his pureblooded family, he preferred to judge people by how they were as people, not by blood purity or species. They agreed to continue their relationship and eventually Eva fell pregnant with a baby boy who they would soon name Nikolai Valtersen, deciding on keeping his mothers last name instead of Edward's.

While he did want to share his last name with his son, Edward thought it might protect the boy from his not-so-understanding family to keep him from the family name and away from his family's radar. Eva's family, on the other hand, wasn't an issue. Although the Valtersen's were from a long lineage of powerful vampires, they cast Eva out of their lives as a teenager when she refused to live to kill as they did. She wanted to fall in love, raise a family, enjoy the crisp mountains, and live a life that didn't cause the death of innocents. And that is exactly what Eva got. Well, almost.

Eva didn't want to leave the life she had made in Bergen behind, but Edward couldn't stay there forever. He had a job back in England, and how it was now, he was already on extended time from his stay in Norway and couldn't risk staying longer without enough extra information on the Norwegian Ridgeback to compensate for his extra time. He promised her that they would still be together and that he would come visit any chance he got, they made an agreement that half the year, Nikolai would stay in Brighton with Edward, and the other half with Eva in Bergen. Every summer and Christmas, however, they would all spend their time together in Norway as a family and Eva was able to pretend that she had the perfect life she'd dreamed about. Although, she did find that this extra bit of chaos and challenges in their lives was just what she needed to feel truly like a family.

As a dhampir, Nikolai inherited deep red eyes, his mother's signature pale skin, a set of retractable fangs, and an aversion to sunlight. The pale skin wasn't too unexplainable, spending quite some time in Scandinavia and the frequent cloudy days when he was back in England. but for his eyes, he began using coloured contacts to match the emerald green of his father's as to blend in with the fully wizardkind.
