Episode One - Who On Earth Was Dido Bleaklane?

Hello there! Welcome to our very first episode, “Who On Earth was Dido Bleaklane?”
That’s still a stupid name-
Alex! Shut it!
I’m Lizzie R and this is my co-star, Alex.
Ok, fine…Hi guys, I hope you’re doing well!
We’re here to tell you about the life of Dido Bleaklane, who *beep*
You’ll have to tune in to the episodes to find out what she did!

As a baby, Dido was adopted by Andy Bleaklane, a halfblood squib and Irene Bleaklane (née Murray), who wasn’t herself magic (though, a more amicable cousin offshoot from her estranged family had ended up having a daughter with a witch). After adopting Dido (and naming her for the mythological queen), the family continued to live in Glasgow for several years until Dido was about six. They then moved to London, so Andy could be closer to the Ministry Records

as she attempted to write the sequel to her first book, the bestselling “History of Unsung Magic: Muggles, Squibs and Avoided Conversations”. Dido grew up very happy, adoring her brilliant parents: the author and the teacher, and for a good few years, being content to just have fun.

This caused the first and only (as of yet) innate conflict between Dido and her parents but eventually, with much “Umming” and “Ahhing” from Andy and Irene and several devoured cookies from Dido, they came to a solution. Dido loved to write. So, instead of forcing Dido to read, they instead set her off with little prompts like “Write me a story about a duck and a lamp” for her amusement or “Can you create a fact sheet about food chains?” for her studies.

Along the way, Dido picked up a love for learning, perhaps originating from her idolisation of her parents, and not a day went by without Dido’s insistence to acquire a new fact, skill or opinion. However, around eight, while her classmates began to read more interesting books and stories, Dido developed a passionate hatred of reading. Much to her parents dismay, it wasn’t because she found it terribly difficult, they had organised several dyslexia assessments to check, but instead she just disliked it.

"Dido is small and stocky (about 4'7"). She has short brunette hair to her shoulders and wears glasses when reading. She always wears at least one necklace, all varying colours and when permitted, also wears matching socks. She occasionally wears either purple or green contact lenses depending on whether it's an even or odd date."

"Dido is extremely hard-working, bubbly and loud but prone to stretches of tired quietness from studying. She enjoys writing and poetry but dislikes reading. She is a people-pleaser but has some knowledge of that so tries to hold back, sometimes consequently behaving quite coldly. She really enjoys school (both magic and not) and wanted to become a professor at a university before she got her letter."

Met first in the ministry atrium, a place as cold and sterile as seems the the snake's own heart, Dido prayed that never again would she cross paths with the pure-blooded girl. Unfortunately, they quickly spoke again many times over the following year.

A kindred soul who seems to radiate elegance and a sense of similarity to Dido, though not in their looks. Dido met her cousin in Hogwarts' stone hallways and the pair began to write letters, giving Dido an output for more personal thoughts.

Dido met Tina, a bubbling fountain of joy. Their rocky start was fixed by an almost-apology under the stars and, since, the pair were the closest of friends, though Dido never truly appreciated Tina. After their first year, the two grew apart.
