Lapiz grew up in the small village of Machynlleth, Wales. The Croftsban family can be traced back here for centuries. Lapiz grew up as a peculiar child, always seeming far more observant than what would be typical for her age. Because of this, she learned to pay attention to the people around her, and has found few friends, but is very close with the friends she does have. She has a younger brother, Erin, who is 8. Lapiz delights in spoiling him, and will often give him gifts or take him with her when she goes star gazing. She takes extra time to teach Erin, and tries her best to answer any questions he might have, which is often many.
Lapiz’s mother, Lysandra Croftsban, chose to stay home and raise her children. Before that, she worked as a Court Scribe for the ministry, which may also account for Lapiz’s observant nature. Lysandra took teaching her children seriously, and always encouraged them to study preferred subjects on their own, which led to Lapiz taking a special interest in Astronomy. Lysandra ensured Lapiz had what she needed to further study, including providing a telescope to her at age 6 when she had requested it. Lysandra was a Ravenclaw when she attended Hogwarts.
Lapiz’s father, Devon Croftsban, works for the ministry of magic as a hit wizard, and therefore is rarely home. Devon loves his family, and does his best to spoil his children when he’s home. He took time to teach them the basics of spell casting, having them practice motions with sticks they found in the yard. He does what he can to shield his family from the work he does, fearing they may become targets for whatever dark wizards he may be tracking.
Lapiz has a few friends, Reagan, Tilly, and Clara. They became friends around the age of 6, though they are about 1 year younger than she. Lapiz is very close with them, and can often be found enjoying a mug of butterbeer with them or exploring the village. Clara and Lapiz tend to clash occasionally, as they have opposite personalities; where Lapiz is aloof and prone to daydreaming, Clara is focused and constantly moving.
Lapiz herself is a sweet girl, albeit not very prone to speaking without being spoken to. She prefers to wait for others to approach her first so that she can observe their body language and get a sense of who they are based on their first interactions. She has a tendency to daydream, letting her mind wander when she’s feeling overwhelmed or anxious. Lapiz loves to read and will rarely be seen without a book in her hands. She takes great pride in studying, as her mother had taught her, often reading far ahead in her textbooks.
Lapiz loves to go stargazing, a hobby she began once her mother began teaching her Astronomy. On clear nights there is little doubt that Lapiz will be found upon the hill near her home, telescope in hand, charting the stars she sees and pondering the questions she has yet to learn the answers to. She keeps her thoughts in a simple journal, and asks her mother the questions the next day.
One day, when she was 7, Lapiz and her mother had gotten into an argument over the study of transfiguration. Lapiz had insisted that there were aspects that could be deemed cruel, like turning an animal into an object. In her anger, Lapiz shouted and the objects in the room began to levitate before suddenly crashing to the ground. Lysandra was overjoyed, completely forgetting the argument beforehand. Lapiz, however, was startled. She’d never been so angry, and yet now her mother was excitedly exclaiming how proud she was of her daughter. Lapiz cried and cried until she finally fell asleep in her mother’s lap.
