EARLY LIFE | Cass is a London-born pureblood who grew up in and on the grounds (and also in the woods. and down the street. and anywhere they probably shouldn't have been) of the Ito manor in a small wizarding community on the outskirts of London. Cass was raised by their Pa and step-mother Anise, due to their birth mother dying when they were very young to illness.They had been raised to believe their fathers views that all purebloods were naturally superior, but the more muggleborns and half-bloods they meet the more they start to quietly question that theory. They still stay silent whenever other purebloods make comments, because how could everything they knew be wrong?

Reduciostyle ──────────────────────Cass is a short non-binary kid with forever messy short dark brown hair and deep green eyes full of mischief. They have olive skin and an easy smile, and are very rarely seen frowning or taking anything at all seriously. They wouldn't stand out in a crowd if you didn't know them, but their constant movement and inability to stay still make them recognisable from afar with ease.
ReducioFor around school and on casual occasions at home, Cass values practicality and comfort over fancy garments. They have a rather large closet and a trunk full of clothes at school, their families wealth meaning that a lot of its tailored or well made. For every piece of elegant wear there's a funny sweater that Cass liked, and a lot of their clothes have stories. For formal occasions they prefer suits and cloaks or robes, liking gold and black colour schemes the most.X The loss of Cass's Mother affected their father a lot, and while Cass was growing up he spent a lot of time on business trips meaning he wasn't around to see his child. When Cass turned four he met their future step-mother on his travels, and they ended up going on a trip together. This turned into two, then three, then them deciding they wanted to spend their lives together. She helped show him that Cass's mother would have wanted him to keep living. They returned to the manor, and though Cass and their stepmother initially didn't get along well over time they got closer and she ended up helped them understand why their father had been away for so long.
ReducioSCHOOL LIFE | Cass arrived at Hogwarts anticipating to see the wondrous place from all of their fathers stories. Their father had attended Hogwarts and so did their paternal grandparents, all of them in Slytherin. There was a lot of unintentional family pressure for them to also be sorted into the same house, though their worries were soon to be proved unnecessary after their sorting named them a snake like their family.PRE-HOGWARTS EDUCATION
Their pre-hogwarts education was handled by a combination of tutoring groups with other wizarding children and trips with their father and step-mother, meaning that Cass got to see a lot of the world at a very early age. Their talent for getting into trouble somehow seemed to equate to an ability to get along with people (once you run screaming from a bear with someone you tend to get along better. this is a scientifically proven fact). Their childhood was filled with a large number of misadventures, including eating an entire sheath of paper on a dare, sabotaging a bridge so that one of their friends would fall into the water when crossing it (an unfortunate Gardner was the next to use it) and more forts than houses in a small village built in the woods.
FIRST INSTANCE OF MAGIC
Cass was four and filled with restless energy, always running circles around their parents and finding new and inventive ways of getting into trouble. The manors grounds where large and as an attempt to calm the restless child whenever their father could take a break from working they would take a walk through the autumn leaves together and feed the ducks. They where running ahead of their father, picking up sticks and pretending they where wands then throwing them "like a bird! Coming down to attack you!", jumping in piles of leaves, scrambling up and down trees and getting into to whatever trouble they could while their father watched in shock and amusement. They ran ahead and bellyflopped in another pile of leaves before running back to their father and proclaiming that they where the fastest kid on the planet. Their father shook his head and smiled, and they took it as a challenge to take off with speed down the path ahead as fast as their short little legs would allow. Laughing uncontrollably, they jumped into the air... And landed 3 meters high in a tree.
PARSELMOUTH
One thing that many pureblood families have in common is their love of being able to trace back their ancestors for generations. Cass's Pa would always say that family is the roots from which the tree grows, the strength behind a person that was there for them through journeys rough and smooth. Through these roots, unknown to Cass the ancient ability to speak in another tongue was passed down. Parseltounge. When they were younger, no amount of expensive magical toys could keep Cass inside and entertained for very long.
To the great annoyance of their nanny's and parents, Cass had ridiculous amounts of energy and a constant need for entertainment that often lead to them roaming the trails in the woods behind the estate. Young Cass would always speak of animals in the woods telling them great tales of things that happened long ago, or the location of streams perfect for swimming. Their father put it down to a child's overactive imagination, until the fateful day not long after their tenth birthday. While roaming the grounds with their father, they made the decision to take a stroll down one of Cass's favourite (though less well maintained than others) trails.
The leaf litter held many hiding places for the hunting reptile, though for one snake their hiding place worked a little too well that day. The boot of Cass's father stomped down on a soft body, causing the snake to lash out in fear and pain and sink its teeth into the leg of its assailant. The man cursed and pulled out his wand, the snake clung on for dear life, and the child opened their mouth. "STOP" to the average wizard, the hissing noises that emerged from Cass's mouth were impossible to understand, but to the terrified snake their meaning was crystal clear. "Accident. No harm" they hissed "Let go. We do no harm".
The snake seemed as shocked as their father upon finding out that the child could speak its language, and quickly slithered away from the trail and into the woods. "Cass.." their father shook his head, seeming to be at a loss for words. "Pa? Are you okay? He didn't mean to hurt you he just got a shock.." they trailed off into silence at the look on their fathers face. He picked up the young kid and hugged them. "Darling.. what you can do isn't normal, even among wizards" he said "some might think you different, even strange for it". He ruffled their hair with one hand "It may be better to keep it.. not secret necessarily but.. not a common conversation topic". They nodded, their green eyes wide with confusion and though they would never admit it, the tiniest bit of fear. "Now come on, we should get this bite checked out" he laughs "healing spells were never my forte". The rest of the day was filled with snake related questions and an impromptu rendition of parselmouth happy birthday (spoiler alert-think nails on a blackboard crossed with your one trumpet-playing-neighbour who has no skill but insists on playing at 2am so you never get any sleep).
Hogwarts was a very new experience for them for a number of reasons, one of them being that growing up the only other children they had been exposed to were other purebloods.
Cass is currently in second year and this section+the ones below will continue to be updated as time goes on.

Let us look back
For things rarely start from the start
The Ito's────────
Lysander Ito, or "Lys" to his friends was born to a family of wizards. The Ito's were purebloods yes, but no grand family in the eyes of many. Their influence came purely from them rather than riches or connections, and as such he was put under high pressure to perform well in his studies to further help his family in the future. As the eldest child, he was also expected to look out for and help his younger brother Abin. Just like his parents, he attended Hogwarts school of witchcraft and wizardry and was sorted into Slytherin.
His time at Hogwarts was a strange one, with his desire to live up to his families expectations conflicting with his friendship with a wizard born (not pureblood) boy named Ren. Mischievous and always getting into trouble, Ren was far from the kind of person his parents would have wanted him to hang out with. Though unlikely, their friendship persisted against the odds. Hogwarts was also where he met his future wife, Melana "Mel" Delany. She was another pureblood like him, full of fire and quick with a sharp retort. The trio stayed close friends, and brought the house of Slytherin many a victory with Lysander on the dueling team. And perhaps Ren and Lysander were more than friends, though he would never admit to it.
The years of his youth were brought to an abrupt end during his seventh year, where their trio became a duo. During the summer holidays on a trip to the Ito families winter lodge, Ren was knocked off a cliff by an muggle skier while he sat with Lysanders head resting on his shoulder. The shock of it meant that he was too late to cast any kind of spell to save either of them, and all he could do was scream at the world that had so cruelly took the boy he loved from him. If he had disliked muggles before, he loathed them now. He viewed the tragic accident as the fault of muggle incompetence, that had not only cost the skier his life but the life of Ren as well.
When he finally gathered the strength to come down from the mountain that night, it was Mel who greeted him. She had stayed behind instead of joining them on the hike to take care of her younger siblings, and was equally devastated at the loss of her friend. She didn't share his views that Ren's death was the muggles fault, but was unable to convince Lysander. It took many years until he was his former self, and even then he seemed so much colder than before. Through all of this, Mel became his shoulder to cry on and the two grew even closer. Years later, they ended up marrying and giving birth to a child, Cass Ito.
Not long after Cass's birth, when they were a mere two years of age, tragedy struck the family yet again. Lysanders younger brother, Abin was sick with dragon pox and Melana had been looking after him when she too caught the illness. They both succumbed to it weeks later, despite Lysanders and every wizarding doctor he could finds best efforts. Lysander was devastated, and young Cass confused. Where was Ma? Why wasn't she coming back? He couldn't look at his child without seeing his wife's face, and turned to the family business to distract himself, going on trip after trip. Cass may have been young, but it felt like they had lost both of their parents.
Around the time Cass turned four, Lysander was on a trip to the mountains of the Pyrenees. Despite throwing himself into his work every waking moment, he was still unable to forget the fact that both of his childhood friends whom he had loved so much were gone. He made conversation, but without truly being there in the moment. Lost, and adrift in a sea of bad memories he wandered into the estate he was staying ats owlery. Anise Dubois was the third daughter of a family of French purebloods, and had never quite been one for socializing. She was more than happy with her birds, and didn't need another idiot in her life. She didn't mind the empty-looking man feeding her owls though. He seemed gentle, if a little not there.
The first conversation they had ended up being at a dinner party hosted by her family. A simple "Pass the shrimp" and an acknowledgement that neither of them truly wanted to be there. They ended up taking a trip together, heading to the same destination with her job as a curse-breaker and his managing the family business. One trip turned into two, then three. Two years passed, and as they grew closer he started to question what he was doing out here, so far from his only kid. He had been around to witness their first instance of magic, but aside from that he only saw them roughly every two months. When she told him that Mel would have wanted him to keep living, he found that he agreed.
The Delany's────────
Melana Cillian Delany grew up as the third child of seven, in a dying Pureblood family with more children than money. The Delany's had made some bad decisions in the past that led to the once great family falling on hard times, and her mothers illness meant that she spent a lot of her time looking after her younger siblings. She grew up angry that while they had everything other purebloods deemed necessary to succeed, her family had none of the things that others enjoyed. All they had to their name was a falling down house that her father refused to sell and his job at the ministry. With no savings and no sure future, she headed off to Hogwarts with a determination to do whatever she could to help her siblings have it easier than her.
She was sorted into Slytherin, though both of her parents had been ravenclaws. It was there she met Ren and Lysander, and became fast friends with the both of them. Teachers quickly came to dread classes with her in, her fiery temper meaning that she got in arguments frequently and often and she had more than one nighttime duel. She joined the Slytherin broom racing team, and made up for her lack of experience on a broom with her determination and stubbornness. Her signature move was an Alley oop in which Ren would fling her through the air either into the lead or into a tree.
Rens death just before their graduation hit her hard, though she was determined to stay strong for Lys and her family. It came at the same time as her father had been forced to sell their family home due to their money issues becoming more dire, and she was keenly aware of the need for her to get a job and help support her younger siblings. Only heightening her frustration, her father still insisted that she got a job that was "suitable" for purebloods like them. She ended up also working at the ministry for magic, taking a job that focused on looking after magical sports though she would have much rather broom raced professionally. The birth of her first kid Cass made her take some time off to look after them, and for a while it seemed like everything was going well for the young family.
When she heard the news of Abin catching dragon pox, she was quick to rush in and offer to look after him. They may not have been siblings by blood, but she saw her brother-in-law as her own brother. She regretted nothing when she caught it as well, only wishing that she could have saved him and been able to look after her husband and child better. Her death left Cass confused and lost, unable to understand at their young age why their mother was gone and their father kept leaving.
The Dubois's────────
Anise Dubois was born the third child of a french pureblood family, and attended buexbatons in her youth. A naturally quiet person who preferred solitude to others company, she had very few friends outside of her family. One thing she did have though, was a love of magical creatures of all shapes and sizes. She excelled in her studies but paid very little attention to them, preferring to spent her time with the animals. Especially birds. Birds made sense to her in a way that very few people did.
She was frequently taken for being aloof and even rude in her ways, and even her sisters didn't truly understand her. After graduation, she got a job as a Dragonologist and travelled the world for a few years studying dragons. She later quit, as she didn't feel fulfilled with despite her considerable skill in the field. It was at a dinner party at her families house when she met Lysander, finding a kindred soul in his quiet and sometimes rude demeanour. She picked up another job as a curse breaker while still trying to find something she truly enjoyed, and was pleasantly surprised to see him again on one of her expeditions.
As they got to know each other more, he told her about his life in England and the people he had loved and she shared the strange feeling she had of being adrift. Lost in a world that so many people were grounded in. It was her who encouraged him to go back and spend more time with Cass, and that its what Mel (and Ren) would have wanted. Meeting Cass was particularly hard for her, as she had never been very good with children and young Cass blamed her for their father being away so long. They would never fight- they would just cast her cold glances from across the room and refuse to speak to her.
After almost two years of cold silence, when Cass was ten she made the attempt to reach out to them she should have all those years ago when they passed each other in the family's owlery. It was not an easy conversation, coming from someone not overly good with words. But they understood enough. The reason their father had been away for so long was not due to them, nor her. Cass of all people understood that some things were beyond their control, even if they refused to acknowledge it. While you couldn't say that they were close exactly, since that day both of them made the effort to at least make an attempt at being polite.
