Appearance

Sylvia stands at around 147 centimeters in height, and despite all the time she has spent engaging in outdoor activities, her skin is still relatively light compared to her peers. Her hair is straight and blond, the color of radiant sunlight. She also possesses a pair of deep brown eyes, which seems to hold an innate wisdom, making her appear more perceptive than the others around her.

Personality

Introverted Sylvia is a rather introverted individual who dislikes excessive socializing with others. She prefers to spend time alone, diving into an endless pile of books or lost in her own thoughts. It might take her a relatively long time to observe someone before she actually opens up to him or her, yet she can be quite humorous, or even slightly sarcastic to people who she sees as worth trusting.

Logical Instead of letting her heart guide her actions, Sylvia usually lists all the pros and cons before making a big decision. In her daily life, she may seem emotionless sometimes because she prefers to use reasoning whenever seriously asked for an opinion or suggestion, and often doesn’t know how to emotionally support others successfully.

Adventurous Despite her introverted nature, Sylvia also has a knack for getting to the bottom of things, especially those which seems quite dangerous to others. She is willing to take risks, and perhaps even break some school rules occasionally, to find out more about this ancient school and the secrets inside it.

Background

Sylvia, born in Irvine, Scotland, is the only child in a magical family. Her father, Jonas Nightingale, who is a Gryffindor graduate, works as an Auror in the Ministry of Magic. Whereas her mother, Lucy Nightingale, a former Ravenclaw student at Hogwarts, chose to become a magic researcher.

Due to the fact that his father is an Auror, he is often away from home, on a journey to either track down or fight a handful of dangerous dark wizards. Therefore, Sylvia spent most of her childhood along with her mother, in a mansion which her great grandparents used to live in (uninhabited for many years due to its inconvenient location), on the top of a unpopulated mountain. Together, they dove into all sorts of books about magic of different time periods, which eventually helped Sylvia develop a rather deep understanding of magic even before she stepped into Hogwarts.

In her free time, she also enjoys exploring around the mountain she lives in. After all these years, she has basically ventured into every single cave and creek, also discovering a variety of plants and animals alone the way. In the meantime, she also possesses a great interest in chess, which she finds as a perfect game to improve her logical thinking abilities.

One day, when she was 8 years old, a few foreign visitors came to the mountain that she lives in for photography. This secluded mountain had rarely seen any visitors in a long time, causing her to feel uneasy and instinctively seek a hiding spot. Despite her efforts to conceal herself, she found no suitable cover in the form of low shrubs nearby. A sense of apprehension grew within her as the visitors approached. But just as she was about to give in to her fear, an unexpected phenomenon occurred — the shrubs around her seemed to come alive with energy, and in a matter of seconds, they shot up and grew nearly half a meter tall. The once scrubby bushes now shielded her from view, granting her the perfect camouflage she needed.

Although her parents never doubted the fact that Sylvia would be a witch, they were still considerably relieved when reassured that their daughter won’t end up as a squib and be despised among all witch and wizards. When she received her Hogwarts letter, they immediately went to Diagon Alley cheerfully to buy the necessary supplies for the upcoming term. Everything seems to be going on well, until the moment of the Sorting Ceremony.

When Sylvia’s name was called, she stepped out and confidently put on the Sorting Hat, as she thought she already knew which house she was going to be placed into. Her father believed that she would be in Gryffindor, with her interested in adventures, whereas her mother insisted that her pursuit of knowledge would place her firmly in Ravenclaw. Surprisingly, without much hesitation, the Sorting Hat announced that she would do best in Slytherin. Both herself and her parents are extremely astonished at the result, and although they comforted her by saying that what house she is in doesn’t matter to them, she can still sense the underlying disappointment in their tone. On the other hand, she embraced her house rather quickly, with the belief that the Sorting Hat could never be wrong, and that the Slytherin house isn’t as what their reputation say they are.
