Reserved and intelligent, but thrives in chaos. Elijah is someone who processes complex emotions and thoughts internally such that his outward appearance seems calm and dormant - only to turn around and do something really reckless and spontaneous. He has a very strong sense of self and little regard to social customs. If he thinks a rule is stupid, he will disregard it entirely. Similarly, he is a strong believer that respect is earned, not inherent. As such, he pays no mind to things such as authority, blood status, or social standing, and rather focuses on the person themselves and how they act. This often gives people the impression that he is disrespectful and lands him in hot water but this is misleading - he has a lot of respect for people, just those that actually have something worth respecting. Strong moral compass but not one that aligns with the law and is rather constructed of personal values and boundaries.
Elijah grew up around very straightforward people and can therefore overlook some of the subtler social complexities. If he doesn’t like you, he doesn’t bother with confrontation or putting up a faux polite front, he will simply avoid and/or ignore you. On the flip side, if he does like you he has no problem admitting so and will often compliment strangers on things he’s noticed. This is not him flirting, but honestly expressing admiration. Having said that, he has a very sarcastic sense of humour and trading insults is a beloved form of expression, which can go wrong when the other person is not on the same page. He can sometimes take jokes too far without realising and hurt others due to this. Mischievous smirks and secretive knowing glances, Elijah is an enabler of chaos that often goes overlooked. The only time you’ll see him angry is when you see him hurt.
He has a strong but unconventional sense of justice and will immediately jump in to help strangers or stand up against discrimination or bullying. Elijah adores talking to strangers and gaining new perspectives from lives different to his, soaks it up and glows with it. While he has no qualms speaking to the veteran he met on the train, it’s the personal relationships he struggles with. Logic-driven and with a highly probable fear of intimacy, Elijah finds navigating the ties of closer relations tricky and sometimes scary. He needs an escape plan at all times and the freedom to be himself, things which can be difficult when you have the responsibility and consideration of another person. However, he is learning to get better with this.
Elijah loves learning and is brilliant at things he sets his mind to. Unfortunately, these interests often last a maximum of 3 days before the next thing is in. He’s disorganised and hopeless at time management, struggling with assignments and subjects he thinks are boring. His grades are therefore a dichotomy of occasionally brilliant, and downright miserable the rest of the time. He has very little ambition other than wanting to explore and live life to the fullest, and is a very present-driven person. Tends to romanticise even the worst parts of life and has a great appreciation for arts, particularly music.
