It's drollful enough to think that Kathy still waited for her dad for a year, waited for her dad to notice what he did was wrong but soon she realised, she doesn't wants the deeds he offers when he comes back anymore and soon cut all cords with him forever. Amanda Ortiz, however, can't be easily distinguished between good or bad. She thinks that she is better in every thing, even though she never became a topper like Kathy, Mrs. Ortiz didn't mind that and always boasted about Amanda, her only daughter. This thing of hers made others thing that Kathy was adopted, to be reasonable, who would think that someone could treat a blood-linked child like that? However, Amanda has always got a strong opinion on very subject or topic and has never lost a debate, whether in school or home. This point of hers really triggered Kathy, because she keeps thinking that this is the only barrier which avoids her from becoming perfect and that's the soulful reason Mrs. Ortiz hates her. Kathy is nevertheless reasonable and got to know that Amanda has many insecurities (for example, her looks, her talent...) and many vulnerabilities (for example temperamental, bullying...). She often hides them in the fear of getting discovered and being neglected. For the past few months Kathy has been really close to her sister to comfort her. Amanda is also kind-hearted and after knowing her sister's suffering, she taught her how to debate well and now, no one would know that these two sisters were rivals a few months ago. Amanda however has a negative point, she is just like Mr. Ortiz, taking everything for granted. She doesn't cares about her friendship nor thinks twice before speaking something unexpected to someone, which could possibly be hurtful to hear. She doesn't shows any sympathy to the animals, just like Mrs. Ortiz. Most viral guesses are that, it's because of her dad leaving the family which has made Amanda like this, unlike Kathy. Amanda never likes anyone unless they are something special. For example, she likes Kathy because she is the topper in every field, David because he is exceptionally handsome and Myseria because she is tallented and expertise in every physical sports. Amanda thinks that the others are poor and don't deserve to have a glorious life. She never cares about how the day went for others, but urges all to ask her politely, how her day went or else face something really bad after that. She chooses the exact opposite of everyone's interest, which is quite an old fashion of hers, in nutshell, you will regret befriending her. The most annoying one, she keeps interrupting between other's talk, and that's the point which Kathy cannot control even a bit. It was only one of the reason which made Kathy distant from Amanda. She has a lot of rules, like following her everywhere, giving her whatever she wants, appreciating her and blah blah. If anyone dares to break the rules- it's something unimaginable, so let's leave it for now. Always making false accusation and putting Kathy in trouble. She assumes that everyone is available for her and demands to get instant reply. She has a very odd habit of spending double the allowance of Kathy. She will always stay in higher standard, no matter what it takes. Amanda often takes money from others but never returns it, and no one even asks for it because of her bully attitude. Kathy found herself stuck in this weird sister-rival relationship and didn't knew what to do. As they were standing in the garden, Kathy noticed that the tulip flowers she secretly planted for her mom and took care of it greatly has bloomed as beautiful as ever. Smiling, Kathy plucked a flower from there and went to Mrs. Ortiz, "Mam, I planted this for you. Amanda said this was your favourite flower and so I took great care of it-" "Ohhh Amanda! My daughter, you know my favourites, don't you? C'mon, give your mom a hug, sweetie." Amanda giggled and mouthed to Kathy, Thank you and hugged her mom. What did her sister think? Kathy was doing this for her? No... It was for her mom. Kathy was really angry, she couldn't win over her mom even a little. She trampled the flower under her feet and didn't care about it anymore, though, it was the plant which she loved dearly. Trickles of tear escaped her eyes and she quickly wiped it out before anyone noticed. After the outing, she was locked inside, as usual, studying hard to impress others. Days went by and after thirteen months, Kathy finally went to see the tulip plant, expecting it to be in ruins till now. But much to her shock, it was blooming brightly. Though the soil was extremely dry, it seemed like the plant was taken good care of everyday. Kathy was truly surprised, she asked Amanda about it out of curiosity and according to her the gardener they hired retired a long time ago and neither she nor mom went to the garden as they didn't have any interest in it because of the gnomes.
