Backstory:

Lineage

The Fraser family can trace their magical roots all the way back to Alistair Fraser, one of the firsts generations of wizards to attend Hogwarts in the late 10th century, and while some branches have retained their pure-blood status, there have been many instances of muggle-borns, half-bloods and even half-breeds marrying into the family. As such, they were not considered a “pure” wizarding family by the author of the Pure-Blood Directory. During the First and Second Wizarding Wars, the Fraser family did not participate in any conflicts.

The Botte family (which Marisa’s mother hails from) was originally from Prussia before immigrating to North America in the seventeenth century. There, they established themselves as a powerful and prominent wizarding family with a rather dubious reputation. Marisa’s great-grandfather was an avid supporter of Gellert Grindelwald, but his children did not share his convictions. In order to escape the dark shadow of the Botte name, the youngest son moved to the UK and eventually married a pure-blood witch. They had two children - Marisa’s mother, Eloise and an older son named Michael. During the Battle of Hogwarts, Michael Botte fought alongside the Death Eaters and was later imprisoned in Azkaban. Marisa isn’t aware of his existence.

Parents

Andrew Fraser started his Hogwarts education in 1995 and was sorted into Hufflepuff. Eloise came later, in 1997, while Hogwarts was under the control of Death Eaters, and was sorted into Slytherin. Both of them were evacuated with the younger students before the Battle of Hogwarts and did not participate in any fighting. They did not meet until years after they’d both graduated and started working at the Ministry of Magic - Eloise in the Department of Mysteries and Andrew in the Committee on Experimental Charms.

Early Life

Marisa was born in London, England on the 13th of April, 2011. An only child, she grew up in the Fraser Manor, which had been built by her ancestor, Malcolm Fraser in 1543. Although the family isn’t nearly as wealthy as it once was, they’re still able to live a comfortable lifestyle. Marisa never had a shortage of new clothes, toys, books and art supplies, but without any friends of her own age to play with, her childhood was a rather lonely one.

Growing up, she was always very close to her father, but her relationship with her mother was a bit strained, due to the woman’s secretive and extremely demanding job as an Unspeakable. When they were working, her parents left her in the care of Ziggy, a freed house-elf who had been in the employ of the Fraser family since long before Marisa was born. Marisa also befriended the ghost of Malcolm Fraser, who still haunts the grounds of the manor.

First Instance of Magic

Shortly after she turned five, Marisa had her first instance of involuntary magic. It happened while she was decorating a Mother’s Day card. All of the crayons in her set suddenly turned the exact same shade of red. While Eloise wasn’t there to witness the event, she would go on to say that it was the best Mother’s Day gift she could ever receive. The red crayons were kept as a reminder of this important milestone and put on display in the living room, and Marisa was rewarded with a brand new set.

Education

From the ages of five to eleven, Marisa had a private tutor - a muggle-born witch named Samantha - who taught her math and language skills. She also introduced Marisa to the wonders of muggle music and taught her how to bake without the use of magic. Their lessons came to an end once Marisa received her Hogwarts letter and the young redhead was completely heartbroken when they had to say goodbye.

Upon her arrival at Hogwarts, Marisa was stunned to be sorted into Slytherin. She had expected to be in Hufflepuff, like her father, or perhaps even Ravenclaw. Never had she imagined that she would be sorted into the same House as her mother. And while she wasn’t disappointed with her sorting, she was slightly nervous about the high expectations that came with it.

Appearance:
Marisa is a natural redhead with a variety of shades in her hair, ranging from strawberry blonde to deep auburn. With the assistance of magical hair products, her thick curls are usually tamed into more manageable waves with the tips reaching just below her shoulder blades. Her eyes are blue with hints of grey and green, depending on the light. She is of average height for her age with a slender built and pale skin that’s quite susceptible to sunburn. Due to the fact that she spends most of her time indoors, she only has a light spattering of freckles across her nose and cheekbones.

Personality:
Although she is a friendly girl, raised to be polite and elegant, Marisa is a little socially awkward and can often come across as quiet and withdrawn, especially among large groups of people. She is clever and observant with a keen eye for detail, but tends to have trouble picking up on social cues. When she gets nervous or excited, she often tends to ramble and will go off on various tangents unless someone or something interrupts her.

She has a mild case of OCD and enjoys keeping her space clean and organised. Marisa suffers from both claustrophobia and thalassophobia (fear of enclosed spaces and fear of the ocean) and is uncomfortable around most animals, due to limited exposure to them. Her hobbies include reading, drawing, painting and baking. She is a naturally curious child and enjoys learning new things, though she prefers to have her adventures inside the pages of a book.
