Alice grew up in a moderately well-to-do wizarding household in England, the second daughter of powerful wizard and alchemist Corbin Grimmshaw, and retired healer Eleanore Grimmshaw, formerly Pritchard. From a young age, she was always known for being one of the more rambunctious people in the family, preferring to run and jump and slam into things as opposed to her older sister's favored activity of sitting inside working at her needlework or reading a murder mystery novel. [Alice's mother always said that Mary's choice of literature was unbecoming of a young lady, but Alice thought it was the one cool thing about Mary.]

She and her mother never particularly got on spectacularly. They didn't hate each other, by any means, and Eleanore was never particularly cruel or uncaring, but it was clear to anyone living within the confines of the Grimmshaw house that the two ladies had very different expectations for how Alice's life would go. Her mother wanted her to be more like her sister, happy to spend an afternoon quietly sitting indoors with a book and a cup of tea, floating through school and getting some cushy job in the Ministry of Magic. Alice, energetic child that she was, wanted to play outside and get dirty, for the rest of her life if possible. One of the first manifestations of this divide was when Alice was around 5, and was handed a pink stuffed bunny. When it touched her hands, it miraculously turned blue, overjoying young Alice.

In an attempt at a compromise between her plans for her daughter and said daughter's interests, Eleanore signed Alice up for ballet lessons when she was 8, but she found ballet too rigid and controlled for her tastes, and quit by the time her 10th birthday rolled around. She swore never to put on a pair of pointe shoes again.

The only person in the family who could get young Alice to sit still for more than five minutes was one Beatrice Grimmshaw, the matriarch of the Grimmshaw family and beloved grandmother to the Grimmshaw children. Beatrice was a quidditch player when she was a much younger woman, and Alice was delighted to hear her endless stories of mischief and quidditch that she got up to when she was younger. It was Beatrice's stories that inspired Alice's love of the sport in the first place!

When Alice's younger brother Kingsley was born, Alice found in him a playmate and confidant. While Kingsley didn't grow to share Alice's rough-and-tumble nature or her love of sport, they found common ground on their preference for the outdoors. Kingsley developed a growing interest in the garden on the property, and would often bother the gardener for hours on end with questions about every bush, flower, herb and tree. Alice was never interested in the information herself, but she was happy to tag along when Kingsley went to go bother the gardener and play in the dirt while they talked.

Corbin Grimmshaw, while not particularly interested in the same things as his children, was an ally in their quests to not do the things their mother wanted them to do. He was their source of toy brooms and gardening kits, and even the occasional quidditch tickets, much to the delight of Alice.

When the family received word that Alice was headed off to Hogwarts in September of 2021, Kingsley was the only one who didn't take the news well. He was sad to lose his constant companion to the school system that sucked up most of their eldest sister's time. Who was he going to play "Mum Lecture Bingo" with? Alice was forced into a promise to owl him at least once a month. In return, Alice was promised a play-by-play recount of any quidditch matches that Kingsley saw while she was away. Alice was sad to leave her family behind for more than half the year, but excited at the prospect of making new friends!

Eleanore Grimmshaw Alice's Mother. A retired healer who has very rigid expectations for her children. So far, only one of said children has met her high standards. A stalwart lady of social grace and charm. A fan of cleanliness and order. Not a huge fan of chaos and getting her hands dirty. She and Alice have never gotten along that well.

Corbin Grimmshaw Alice's Father. Works in a high up position in the ministry and is also an alchemist. A kind of goofy old man who doesn't really understand his children's interests but does his best to encourage them anyway. He's the one Alice asks for fun stuff that she knows her mother will say no to.

Mary Grimmshaw Alice's older sister. The most favored of the Grimmshaw siblings by their mother, Mary is a studious, quiet fourteen-year-old who tends to keep to herself. She loves crime novels, butterbeer, and baking. She wants to become an auror.

Kingsley Grimmshaw Alice's younger brother and general right hand man. Like Mary, Kingsley is kind of a quiet kid, except if he's comfortable around you. This includes Alice, Gamma Gimmshaw, and the gardener, among a few unimportant others. He likes painting and gardening, and he wants to become an herbologist when he grows up.

Beatrice Grimmshaw Alice's grandmother. The matriarch of the Grimmshaw Family, affectionately reffered to as "Gamma Gimmshaw" after being called that by a three year old Kingsley. She's had a long and prosperous life, playing quidditch professionally when she was a young woman. Her husband, Merlin bless him, died tragically years before any of the Grimmshaw children were born. She lives with the rest of her family, watching over the house and regaling an eager Kingsley and Alice with wild tales of her youth. She was the first Grimmshaw to be sorted into Gryffindor, and Alice is excited to follow in her footsteps.
