Lance James Palmer, 1st Year, Slytherin

Lance's parents are Jupiter Palmer and Derek Ellis. Jupiter is pure-blood while Derek is a muggle-born. They met through Hogwarts when they shared a compartment on the first ride there. They were instant friends and started a relationship in their 6th year. When Hogwarts finished, the couple moved to Bristol, England where they got married. When they turned 24, Jupiter realized that she was pregnant, and on November 14th, 2008 Lance James Palmer was born. The two parents raised him well, telling him all about wizardry as he grew older. They told him all he needed to know about Hogwarts and magic.

Lance’s parents were his only close family as he was an only child and he did not have many friends. Lance loved reading books and occasionally found the Daily Prophet that his parents would read him, interesting. Lance was a pretty sweet boy, but he hated being wrong. He would get angry easily and didn’t hesitate to insult someone who angered him.

One day Lance had got angry at his mother for punishing him. He stayed silent while he glared at her, as she stared back. All of a sudden, broken plastic was all over the floor. His mother stared down as the shattered pieces of her glasses lay on the floor. Lance jumped up startled, scared at what he had done. He ran up to his room, and soon his mother came to him to explain that it was okay and he will learn to control it.

One summer day, Lance was just reading his favorite book when his father came to check on him for the 5th time this day. Lance was worried because he had not gotten his Hogwarts letter yet, and was afraid he would never get it. As soon as Lance had answered his father, they both saw an owl outside their door. Lance’s father pulled him up and downstairs to the door. When they opened the door they saw the Hogwarts letter and celebrated.


The day finally came, where they went to Platform 9 ¾. His mother and father were so proud of him and barely stopped embracing him before the train took off. As Lance boarded the train he sat next to some other people and just listened to them talk. “You think any of those mud-bloods were accepted this year?” One boy said. “Excuse me..” Lance said quietly. “What exactly is a “mud blood”?

“A muggle-born, you know.. Dirty blood.” The boy said. Lance slouched in his seat, thinking. His father was a muggle born.. Was he a dirty blood? Lance arrived at Hogwarts faster than he thought because he had fallen asleep. The first years pilled out and headed to the castle. When they got to the castle, they got ready for the sorting ceremony. It was Lance’s turn.. He walked up to the stool and the hat was placed on his head. It took a while, as Lance sat impatiently waiting for an answer. The hat finally hollered out.. “Slytherin!” Lance hopped up from the stool and walked over to the Slytherin table where he saw the boys he sat with on the train..
