She used to be happier, living contentedly with her mother, father, and older sister. That happiness was destroyed at the age of four, her parents began to fight, her father forbidding her from allowing her older sister to Hogwarts as he feared for her safety. It grew worse, and they split when she was five, the father taking the older sister away. All that was left of her sibling was the black, stuffed cat she gave Aspen on her last happy birthday.

After that Aspen began to have night terrors, ear-splitting echoes of the fights waking her from sleep and keeping her awake.

School got harder once she hit seven she had rather bad experiences at school, the bullying began, and she retreated further into herself, distrusting her mother and everyone around her.

At one point the pent-up feelings triggered her first magic as she watched a younger child being picked on, and a rock suddenly flew from the ground and hit the aggressor in the head, knocking him out. This happened at age ten.

The next year, she got the owl from Hogwarts, and her mother sent her off.
