Gabriella Alice Haworth was born into a middle-class Muggle family on 16th February, 2009. Her parents, Nina Irene Haworth and Adrian Allas Haworth, are both teachers at a private school, which she had been going to attend before she received her Hogwarts letter. When she was three years old and an only child, her parents adopted a son, her brother Jacob, who is now eight years old. Despite knowing that her parents love them equally, Gabriella often thinks that Jacob gets more attention, and is allowed to get away with more - he often makes fun of Gabriella for doing things he wants to do, for example reading. Previously, Gabriella loved reading, but eventually she couldn't give in to her brother's teasing any more, so stopped.

Gabriella is muggle-born, so had never had any interaction with other wizards or witches before Hogwarts. Because of this, nobody knew she was a witch, so the weird things she did were evidently inexplicable. Whenever she was angry as a child, things always exploded, for example, and nobody knew why. Before Hogwarts, Gabriella thought of it as a random, unexplained chain of events with one common factor: herself. Potential school friends started calling her a witch, and becoming her enemies. Gabriella desperately wanted to make friends, but everyone hated her, and all the new kids who joined the school at any stage were instantly told to keep away from her. Eventually, Gabriella just learned she had to do things on her own and for herself, so, when she arrived at Hogwarts she had very little social experience and didn't know how to socialise. However, she is naturally social, so easily makes friends at Hogwarts provided they are her own age (she has difficulties talking to those older than her).

Gabriella's home life is very different from her school life, however. Her parents - although not rich - are well-off, and they often go on foreign summer holidays. The first time Gabriella went abroad was when she was 3, just before they adopted Jacob, and the family went to Greece. When she was 9, she went to Australia, and this is where she met her first ever friend, Anna. They played together for two weeks and vowed to stay in touch, as pen pals, however it never happened. Gabriella wrote to her every week, but she never replied. She would like to think that Anna moved house and had no way of telling the Haworths, but she knows that's not true really.

Regarding Gabriella's wider family, her grandparents on her father's side both died when she was a baby, but her mother's parents are still alive and relatively young. They live in the north of England, in Newcastle, while Gabby lives in Portsmouth in the south, but every year they go to stay with them for two weeks. Gabriella's mother has a sister, Melanie, who she lives in America. The family went to visit her when Gabriella was seven, and she shouted a lot. Gabriella got so scared that she accidentally smashed her window with (then unknown to be) magic. After that, the family got banished from Melanie's house, and they had to stay in a hotel for the rest of their time in America.

FIRST YEAR:

During this year, Gabriella grew a lot as a person. Before Hogwarts she had never had any friends, but now she had many - Gia, Atlas and Ellie to name but a few. In first year Gabby discovered a more social side of herself she never knew she had. However, at around Easter time, Gabriella began to develop depression and some rather dark, existential thoughts. Atlas and Muggle therapy helped her get around that, but at the end of first year she was still very skittish and prone to meltdowns.

Over the year Gabby also began to discover a passion for art. She entered first year as a writer and exited as a painter, uncovering a hidden talent. Her favourite things to draw were faces and landscapes, although by the end of the summer term she was also getting into still life.

Sorry to be gross, but Gabriella began her periods on 25th April 2021, when she was twelve years old. Her periods are incredibly difficult and painful experiences for her, and she constantly dreaded their arrival.

Nothing huge happened in Gabby's life during first year - she just went to school, learnt things and made friends. If you were to look at her at the end of first year, you would have seen a happy, bubbly near-teen, mature for her age but not so mature as to make her adult-like, and smart but not so smart as to make her a genius. Just a twelve-year-old girl doing stuff. Oh, and a witch.
