Jake Morris wrote: 23 Apr 2020, 21:06 Recently, the editor changed the shortcut commands for bold, italics, etc from ctrl+B to alt+B on Windows.

On Mac, it used to be cmd+B - but as far as I can tell, on the new editor there is no way to use the shortcuts (cmd+b opens bookmarks now, but before it used to bold the text) since there's no alt key and the opt key didn't work.

I was wondering whether new Mac shortcuts could be added (like opt+b), or whether cmd+B could still work on Mac like before if there's no alternative, even if it overrides the bookmarks.
Zach removed the old shortcuts because they clash with existing browser shortcuts. You can read up on it here (all of his updates are shared in that thread).

As all the coding of the site is done by him, I am not sure if the shortcuts will be fixed. He does however read this thread, so he'll see your suggestion eventually. Maybe something can be done about this problem.
Hi again! I was just wondering if there had ever been any more info from Zach about whether it would be possible to somehow bring back shortcuts for things like bold, italics, and underline on Mac.

@Jackson Valentine I will bring your suggestion to the attention of the duelling moderators, but I should inform you that there is a spell which "protects" already. As for main-story adventures/events, there is no set list of actions that can be taken with mechanics attached because pretty much any action can be taken. It is up to the moderator of specific events to determine these actions and their mechanics until such a time that a list exists (if it ever does). For example, you can currently say in adventures that you are protecting someone as your action, but it is up to the moderator to determine how to mechanically carry that out. We will reference your suggestion should we consider adding a protect action.

@Opeila Winters The -5 stat points is what discourages the majority of new players from choosing a special race. It is essential in managing the population of these special races. The other disadvantages (not becoming an animagus or be an occlumens) do not carry the same weight as having -5 points, especially considering those abilities are not a huge priority to many players. We understand that you're dissatisfied with the -5, but it cannot be changed at this time.

@Jake Morris I don't have the answer to this at the moment, but I didn't want you to feel ignored. You'll be tagged by someone with an answer when we find one!

From what I understand, the top house point earners of every month as well as the winning house get to participate in a main story thread hosted by Lear. These threads are extremely fun, and can generate some pretty compelling stories.

I think we could add some additional incentive for being the top house point earners every month, as if you’re a member of the winning house, well, you don’t really get anything above the ordinary. I think that top earners should not only be able to participate in the events, but be able to bring along one person of their choice. Or maybe if the character is from the winning house, only then are they able to invite 1 other student of another house of their choice.

This could lead to more dynamic storytelling as there is now a more diverse combination of students that could be present in the main story threads.

Not every month, but once in a while. It's too much work to make it every month. The rewards are always different, sometimes special prize, money for something specific (like a broom), or early access to some system currently in development.

Usually, the top earners may get their own main story thread apart from the house, or some special role in the story for the house. It's not really a settled thing as Lear is very creative.

For the fire obsessed:

Ability: Pyromancer

Roleplay Implications: You are obsessed with fire.

Incendio and Incendio Duo do half their base damage against you.

Incendio and Incendio Duo ticks do 10 damage per turn to you.

New Skill:

Incendio/Incendio Duo - Self Cast
The user casts Incendio/Incendio Duo on themselves, coating their body in a wreathing mass of flames. The user takes Incendio/Incendio Duo tick damage (10) every turn while this is active.

Contact moves to other characters and contact moves against the user cause the opponent to be set on fire and suffer from the normal effects of Incendio/Incendio Duo tick damage.

Roleplay Implications: You have been lit up like a torch. You illuminate the area around you.

I'm not an ability-approving staff here, but since this is a Forum Suggestions page, I think I have as much right to express my opinion publicly toward fellow users' suggestions as well - and in this case, I disagree.

First reason: To my best understanding, this is never known in the canon Harry Potter universe. This sounds more appropriate in a science fiction or superhero universes.

Second reason: Honestly, in my opinion, this is too violent. If this suggestion is approved, it would imply that our site team (or IC: professors) approves violence against Hogwarts students, as well as self-harm. Teenagers' physical fights and even spell-duels are understandable since they're not mature enough and often let emotions get the best of them, but casting fire to oneself sounds very similar to self-harm; and then burning others does not differ very much from casting Crucio or Sectumsempra since it would cause too much pain. Even though Incendio is permitted in duelling, burning them like how Marvel's original Human Torch (the android one, not the Fantastic Four one) does in his earliest appearance is another story.

This is by no means a personal attack against the player coming up with the suggestion, but merely a personal opinion. (I do hope I didn't hurt the player's feelings with this post!)

That is a very valid point. No offense taken 😁

Was just a random idea I had in the spur of the moment.

@Jackson Valentine I'm really glad you weren't hurt by our different opinions! And of course it's fine to have a random idea coming up, that's the power of imagination, isn't it? : )
Pet suggestion: white cats, both long-haired (like the infamous Persian cats) and short-haired ones

(I saw a post suggesting black cats earlier, so I also post white. I do understand that this requires coding assistance from the founder Zach Winslow, and thus may take some time, so I just write this down if one day Mr Winslow has time for this.)
Ability suggestion: Focused (name is subject to change based on the creativity of the team)

Brief description: You have a high concentration and a great focus on whatever plan you have set your mind and heart at. Nothing, not even an attractive wizard or witch, can be a distraction.

Explanation: This works similar to how Fearless counters Terrible Presence; this new ability counters Lovely Creature.
Ability suggestion: Strong-Willed (name is subject to change based on the creativity of the team)

Brief description: You are a strong-willed person and do not easily change your mind, belief, or plan - even under the persuasion of a talented speaker or orator.

Explanation: This works similar to how Fearless counters Terrible Presence; this new ability counters Charmer.

Pets are limited by Zach's coding as well as by his personal aesthetic. The site's appearance is also very important to him and admittedly he has great taste. He never added black cats because of how it ended up working against the backdrops of the profile card. I do not anticipate seeing black cats in the foreseeable future due to this aesthetic. This however may be subject to change, this year has been hard for him as well as the rest of us so a lot of the things we wanted to do never were accomplished. I know he has future wants to work on the pets coded onto the site but I do not know what that outcome will look like.

As for abilities - Focused (by another name) is basically an ability that was proposed in Admin a few months ago so I see that one in the near future. As for strong-willed, I do not recall if that was listed but it is likely now that it has been mentioned to be included if it has not been already. Legal: the aforementioned still subject to various approvals.

There is something about ambition, how it not only propels you but also defines you.
