Something's Missing
August 17-- 9:32am
Katrina made her way up the stairs and into her room. She had bought her key only moments ago and was looking forward to getting settled in. The corridor to the rooms was surprisingly quiet compared to the main room. So quiet, in fact, that Katrina wondered it the hallway had been charmed. She arrived at her room and noted the 'Do Not Disturb' sign. The Gryffindor hooked it on the outside door handle and shut the door behind her.
The room was cozy and quiet. There was an already made bed and a fireplace. It was everything she really needed. Katrina swung her trunk onto the bed and flopped beside it. She had the nagging feeling in the back of her mind that she was missing something. She had her trunk, her clothes, her wand, but then, it began to sink in. Where was the orange furball? Her feline companion?
Boomerang! Where was he!? Katrina began to freak out, heart racing and mind spinning. He had been with her on the streets, hadn't he? She raced down the hallway and stopped at the door to the main room. Had she left him at Adonis' place? She sunk to the ground, pushing away tears. She had lost him for good. She raked her memory of the last few hours and couldn't remember seeing him anywhere. She was so used to him just popping up at school or at other people's houses that she never worried about him.
The past two years had only been tolerable with Boomerang at her side. He always knew when to cheer her up or when she needed a friend. Boomerang had been the only thing keeping her together at times. She never truly appreciated everything he did for her. But now, she had lost him. He was probably wandering the London streets alone and scared. She didn't know which way she had come. She was never going to find him. Tears streaked down the young girl's face. What had she done?
After several minutes of silent sobbing, she dragged herself into her room. She had lost Boomerang. She had lost everything. The feeling of confidence and happy comfort were long gone. Everything was wrong.
But then. There was a familiar sound. Claws scratching on wood floors. Katrina buried her head into the pillow. It was probably a mouse, or someone else's cat. Or perhaps she was imagining things now. But then there was a purr, more of a 'blurrup'. It was muffled and really quiet. Katrina looked up blearily, she was hallucinating. Sound hallucinating. Then a fluff of orange fur flashed under the door. A paw? Katrina slid off the bed and cracked open the door.
Boomerang burst through, head held high and nose quivering with new scents. He looked back to his owner and cocked his head. A very perceptive kitten was he. Boomerang reached up and put his front paws on her leg, begging to be picked up. Instead of that, Katrina crumpled to the ground weeping happy tears. He had found his way. How, she would never truly know, but he had found his way to her.
There was perhaps an hour that passed of Katrina simply giving her feline love. She clipped his claws and brushed his fur until it shone. Then she got out some treats (even though they were stale) and fed him some. The whole time with tears of gladness in her eyes. She had almost lost him for good this time.
She would never again forget how much Boomerang meant to her.
