Duelling Beta Test Match 10 – Luna vs. Ami

Welcome everyone to the tenth match of our Duelling Beta Test!

A new Duelling System has been in the making for some time now, and starting today we are finally able to show you what the team has been working on. Places as testers have been offered to the top students of the month of May, of which so far all have taken to the task with great ethusiasm.

We will be playing the test duels with the new 6 Stat System, as some of you may already be aware of. This is a Second Year test match, putting the participant's stats to either 35 or 40 points depending on whether the duelists choose to be a special race or not. A minimum of 1 point in Stamina is required, and the maximum amount of points in a single stat is limited to 10. Abilities are not yet included in this test.

Your duellists today are @Luna Choi from Slytherin House and @Ami Procoppio from House Hufflepuff. Please give a hearty round of applause to both of them! The moderator for this duel will be me.

Both duellists, please post your stats underneath this post so the duel can commence.

THE DUELLING STATS
THE STATS EXPLAINED
For these tests, we will be testing out a new 6 stat system. Please read the details below to understand them.

Stamina: This stat determines a player’s durability. In duels, this will determine a combatants health. This is your health points in a duel.

Evasion: The stat determines a player’s ability to physically react and move quickly. In duels this will determine a combatants chance to dodge an incoming spell. This will help you dodge incoming spells.

Strength: This stat determines a player’s physical ability to hold or lift. This stat is unlikely to be used in duels as the rules don’t allow for physical contact between duellers. This is not currently used in duels.

Wisdom: This determines a player’s skill at spell-casting, accounting for things like correct incantation and wand movement in a duel. This will determine casting success. This will help you successfully cast the spell in the first place.

Arcane Power: A measurement of magical potency. This will determine spell damage. This will determine how much damage your spell does.

Accuracy: A stat which will determine a spell’s chance to make contact with an opponent. This will help you to hit your opponent.
The minimum word count per post is 100 words. You can find your duelling spells here.

The round

Truly, Zahid still was not certain how he had ended up overseeing duels – this would be his second one already. But the students here were all so exited he could not help but look forward to the duel. He walked toward the podium, nodding to a few of the students he recognized as actually being interested in History, before coming to a stop. He took a look around all the eager faces. These duels really drew quite a crowd.

“All right, back away a little everyone. You’ll still be able to observe the duel perfectly well even with keeping a bit of a safety distance.” He smiled as most of the spectators did settle down a little. “Good, good. Now, I hope you all remember the duelling rules, but just to be on the safe side…” Zahid began listing the rules for duelling to make sure his duellists would remember them.

Clapping his hands once he exclaimed, “Let’s do this! For this next duel, the duellists will be…” here, he drew a small piece of paper from his pocket and unfolded it “Miss Choi and Miss Procoppio! Well, come on up, you two.” Motioning to the podium he stepped to the side. Once both duellists stepped onto the platform he would remind them to bow to each other and then call out. “Aaand… BEGIN!”

Duelling Beta Test Match 10 – Luna vs. Ami
The first time she came to the dueling club, was as the person who moderated the duel. And now, she was standing here as a duellist. It took her a long time to answer the owl that invited her to be a duellist. Even right now, standing in this club, she was not sure if her decision was right or wrong. But, she couldn't stop now. She had already agreed to duel, and she should be confident in herself. Maybe she could test her skills through this duel.

Hearing the professor called her name, she stopped thinking about it. It was totally useless now. What she needed to think about was which spells to use in this duel. The Slytherin took a slight look at her opponent, a Hufflepuff girl. Not a familiar face to her so well, which was why she wouldn't need to say anything to this girl.

Luna slowly walked and followed what the professor told them both to do. Bowing down to her opponent. And when she saw the coin being flipped and showed the side she chose, she didn't think about how lucky she was. A bunch of spells ran through her mind. Which one should she choose? Should she attack right away?

Nah.

She could attack, but she wouldn't do it in the first round. She could mute this girl in the next round, but the Ravenclaw would be able to dodge better. So, if she really had to choose, her decision would be... "Obscuro."
Action: Casts the Blindfolding Spell • Obscuro

Duelling Beta Test Match 10 – Luna vs. Ami
Why was she doing this, again? She thought back to the first true immersion in the wizarding world she had experienced- the purchase of her wand. She had been told, with absolute certainty, that hers was one meant for dueling, for fighting. She was a fighter at her core, and her wand certainly reflected it. However, the girl standing across from her... well, she was a prefect. Prefects tended to be smart. Ami was not smart. She had a feeling that this duel wouldn't go very well, which of course, was not ideal.

She was a Hufflepuff. Hufflepuffs didn't fight, they- they hugged, they make cookies to bribe people into doing their homework, they had pillow fights when they were sad! But Ami was still a fighter, and a fighting Hufflepuff... well, there really wasn't anything scarier, because Hufflepuffs always, always fought till the end. Until what they were fighting for had been obtained. But what was Ami fighting for today? That... that, she couldn't answer. Maybe, for the first time, it was her own honor.

Ami opened her mouth, considering her options for a moment until she heard the other girl speak, not quite recognizing the spell (cos y'know, she's not the bright crayon in the box). Uh... that had something to do with covering things, right? Regardless, she still twisted her body to dodge, pointing her wand at the prefect and crying, "Expelliarmus!" Hey, if it worked for Harry Potter, it could work for her.
ACTIONS!
Cast the Disarming Charm.

The round

The anticipation in the room was palpable. You would think this was a professional match. Zahid could not help but slightly shake his head in bemusement. True, the mood was infectious and he could not help but be gripped by some excitement as well… Oh, well. It was the students’ prerogative to get excited about events like this.

He took a deep breath and focused. He would not let himself (almost) get distracted by the spectators again. No. So he concentrated on his duellists. Luna was a tiny bit faster in casting her spell and her spell hit in the middle of Ami casting her own spell. As Ami was slightly moving while casting, the spell would be more of a glancing hit than a direct hit and Zahid would notice that the conjured blindfold seemed to be a bit wonky on her face.

Ami’s own spell hit Luna more fully and Luna’s wand would go flying quite a ways away as it would make her stumble. Zahid blinked in surprise. Well, this started quite different from the first duel he’d chaperoned, these two seemed more intent on incapacitating their opponent.
Luna attempts to cast Obscuro. Spell barely hits.
Ami attempts to cast Expelliarmus. Spell hits.
Wand lost for two rounds.
Ami to post first.

Duelling Beta Test Match 10 – Luna vs. Ami
Jeez, this Luna girl was smart. A blindfold would have to be taken off in order to continue on, and Ami reached up to do so. Loss of sight was... well, she could always take her chances, use her ears and try to pinpoint where Luna was standing- no, she wasn't a miracle worker- she knew her boundaries. With a Sigh™, she reached up, pushing the blindfold up and off of her eyes, tucking the fabric into her robes- hey, she could reuse it... for something... maybe.

Thank god her spell worked, though. She couldn't imagine the total embarrassment she would've faced if she couldn't even cast a basic spell like the Disarming Charm, a spell that even Harry Potter could cast- hey, it was pretty common knowledge that Potter had not been the brains of the bunch.

Her grip on her wand tightened, leveling Luna with a hard stare. She wanted to get this over with as quickly as possible- the longer she drew this out, the more time Luna had to gain some sort of advantage over her.

Duelling Beta Test Match 10 – Luna vs. Ami
Luna surprisingly looked at the incoming spell and tried to dodge. Instead of choosing a spell that could hurt her, the Hufflepuff chose a spell that would stop her from casting spells. It could be a smart move, it could be a stupid move... That totally depended if their spells hit or not.

However, unlike what she hoped, she failed to dodge it. It was too fast, and although she had trained a bunch of times, she failed. The wand which was staying still in her hand a few seconds ago now was laying on the floor, and to prove that she was unlucky, pretty far away from her. At least, it was not broken...

Sighing, she quickly realized her situation. Although her spell kind of hit the Hufflepuff and that girl decided to remove the blindfold, she couldn't do anything other than attempting to grab her wand. But that would be pretty impossible to do it in one round... Whatever.
Action: Go closer to her wand

The round

Zahid watched as both the duellists instead of trying to attack each other moved to take care of their handicaps. Ami stood still to remove her blindfold while Luna began to inch her way towards her wand. As they were still young witches it only made sense, after all they were too young to have been taught any wandless magic yet, if he knew how things were taught at Hogwarts correctly and he doubted that Ami had enough duelling training to duel blind, after all.

This wasn’t the tweestryd club he’d visited on his travels, where every duellist had to draw a card before stepping onto the podium - at least for a showcase duel. That had been an interesting couple of days, watching a dueling tournament where people were assigned a random ‘handicap’ at the beginning of each duel, like being temporarily blind or deaf for the duration of their duels. But those had been professional duelists, and these were students. Students that he was proud of. Both of them had seemingly simply carried on to take care of their problem without panicking or showing their insecurity outside of a sigh.
