2021, Stage 3 Group E: Gryffindor vs Hufflepuff Finished

As he stepped through the heavy oak doors of the duelling club, there was a growing flutter of excitement in his stomach. He had spent months practicing his spells and watching the other duelists, waiting for this chance. One hand rested lightly on the handle of his wand as it sat in its new holster, hanging from his obi. The hakama and kimono he was wearing was also new, a gift from his parents to congratulate him on joining the team. He had never worn so much yellow in his life.

As he stepped onto the stage beside Willow, he removed the haori and tied back the kimono sleeves with a tasuki. He studied their opponents curiously, two older Gryffindors he didn’t know personally, though he had watched their last duel with Opeila. It had been painfully one-sided. They had taken out Opeila’s partner fairly quickly and though she had managed to drag it out, two on one was an inevitable loss. These two would not give them an easy win. He bowed to his opponents then to Mars as they completely glossed over the rules, chuckling. Finally he turned to Willow with an excited grin, pulling out his wand. They hadn’t had much time together with his late addition to the team but they had thrown together a little cheer. Waiting for her signal, he shouted out the cheer, loud and clear.

“One, two, three!
Hufflepuff are we!
The badger’s claw!
Beats the lion’s Paw!”

He raised his wand to the ready, waiting for the signal, a smirk on his lips. Win or lose, it didn’t matter to him. It was the challenge he craved.

It was the afternoon of day two and Galton Lansdale was fresh from lunch. He’d made sure not to take that extra portion of dessert like he normally might; the memory of the last duel’s Boogies still haunted his gut. And plus, It gave him something to reward himself with if they ended up winning (or losing). Celebratory (or consolation) candy was a true motivator.

He made his way over from the bench, fishing out his trusty wand holder necklace from the head hole of his robe. With wand in hand Galton the Glorious joined Meenauh the Mighty on stage.

Galton replied to his partners nod with one of his own, adding “Good luck!” onto it. Likewise, he replied to his opponents chant with a similar, albeit louder “Good luck!”

If Galton had learned anything from these duels, it was that anyone with a wand was a contender, and two of them were in front of him. This was going to be exciting.

It was time for another duelling round. Willow currently had a pretty even streak, her first duel ever she had won alongside May but barely. The second one she had lost alongside Martyna. Now she had Kazuo by her side. Every round she had someone new, it made her wonder if it was her that was causing the overturn, or maybe it was the brutality of the sport. Her partners had always passed out before her. It was concerning, but she had to be focused. She had to put all of it to the side for this battle.

Kazuo seemed extremely excited to be part of the team, as was she. The outfit he wore clearly displayed the pride for his badgers. Hers was simple, one that she could move around in easily, with a decent amount of yellow just in case people forgot who she was fighting for. She nodded up to one of her favorite friends and now the moderator for the duel. Mars. A bright smile was on her face as she nodded to them. She would make the wix proud, that's for sure.

Her head turned to Kazuo, and they launched into the chant that they had come up together. Something to possibly intimidate or throw off their opponents. She still wasn't clear on the intention of it, but it was powerful. That's what mattered.

"One, two, three!
Hufflepuff are we!
The badger's claw!
Beats the lion's paw!"

Her grin shifted to something mischievous as she readied her wand.

Round One

Mars jumped back as the spells began flying. They glanced over at the Gryffindors first, watching a well-leveled spell shoot out of Meenauh's wand in Willow's direction. It kicked up dust as it passed by, but the Hufflepuff easily side-stepped the strong current of the Wind Jinx, firing her own spell in retaliation.

However, it was aimed at Meenauh's partner, rather than the offender herself. The ever-familiar Curse of the Bogies hit him square in the chest, and Mars had to wince at the horrible shade green that flooded his complexion. Oh, they'd hate to be fighting with that cold. From the corner of their eye, they could see the straight beam of a Green-Sparks Charm whizz by—Kazuo's first cast, they assumed. Not horrible, for a first time.

Even afflicted with his horribly runny nose, Galton managed a returning spell. Mars watched as it split its path, the same way Dmitri's had before. The two streams barreled towards their respective Hufflepuffs and they sucked in a breath. This was about to be very unfortunate, wasn't it—just as the thought crossed their mind, the one aimed at Kazuo wobbled and doubled back at Willow. Oh? The Badger wasn't able to dodge both streams, wand flying up and out of her grip. Mars laughed. Well, that was unexpected.

Spectator Thread: Afternoon Slot, Group E: Gryffindor vs Hufflepuff

A quick start, spells flying as soon as Mars called them to begin. Galton, in particular held Kazuo’s attention, eyes narrowed in concentration as he fired off a Green Sparks spell. To his disappointment, Galton managed to side step the spell though it seemed he couldn’t dodge both of them. Willow’s Curse of the Bogies hit true and Kazuo winced a bit at the greenish colour of Galton’s face. It seemed that the Lions had decided to target Willow, though as he suspected based on watching the previous rounds of duels, Galton’s spell split. As he prepared to dodge, his eyes widened in surprise as the stream that had originally been heading in his direction veered back toward Willow. Though she had managed to dodge Meenauh’s Wind Jinx, she couldn’t avoid both of Galton’s streams and Kazuo cringed as her wand was knocked out of her hand. “Solid hit Willow!” He encouraged as he leveled his wand for his next move.

There was something about being hit with a a good old case of the boogies that felt so right. Pooling snot in your nose, dripping down onto your face and then staining your robes - delightful. After his last duel he’d have been sad if it didn’t make an appearance this time. And seeing at how common a dueling spell it was, it wasn’t surprising when he was hit with it. There is only so much the small boys feet could dodge.

At least half his spell had hit. This was shaping up to be a fun duel.
