So the time had come again, huh? Mars grinned as they stepped back into the Duelling Club, eyes going straight to the piste. Last round had been fun, both to moderate and to duel, and they could only assume this one would be better. There was always an air around here, focused and charged. It sent shivers down their spine, a slight bounce in their step as they walked. Hopping up to their place on the side, they smiled wryly at the duellists on the field. Fourth Years, Third Year, First. An interesting match up to say the least.
"Alright guys, you know the drill," they spoke, eyes alight, "Remember your spells, don't cheat, try not to get in the face." They thought for a moment, and then amended, "Or anywhere really."
With a laugh, they raised their arm. "You may begin!"

The young hufflepuff didn't know what to feel.
On one hand, Frost was keeping her calm. So was the friendship bracelet, tugged in a circle around her wrist as she got onto the field. Any duel was scary, especially being a firstie that hardly knew what she was doing. But she could focus on something- or someone- else just before the duel, so as not to focus on the crowd.
But just looking at their opponents brought about chills- a third year and a fourth year, not to mention the fourth year had something scary about them, very much unlike Frost. Just the two fourth years alone were enough to confuse the girl, her mind unsure whether to feel calm or freaked out. Brown eyes glanced to the hufflepuff fourth year, offering a small smile.
"Ready?" Lea certainly didn't feel ready.

01.24.21 → ic datebanner credit goes to lucia fox♡ give it your best! ♡Frost walked alongside her teammate onto the dueling stage. Though she desperately wished she could say that this time she was less worried since she had been through a match, it would be a lie. Surely, she would be more attentive and duel ready after her first experience, grown in ability, and a little wiser maybe. The sport had lit a small fire- typical for a Hufflepuff- in her.
Despite all of this, Frost bit her lip and tugged at her own matching friendship bracelet in nervousness. Her opponents this match we're no doubt formidable. She had heard of their last match. Most of her was grateful for a chance to even go up against such a powerful duo. Once again, should she and Lea lose this match, Ruby and Dmitri would be gaining a personal cheerleader.
As she looked at Lea, who seemed to be shook up by the Slytherin team for some odd reason [fearless countering dmirti's terrible presence], she returned a warm smile. "Ready enough." Lea had grown quite a bit in dueling since their last match, a bit more spells under her belt. Frost felt like a proud older sister.
Letting out a breath, Frost prepared for the worst but kept in mind that this was for fun and learning experience. After beaming brightly at the Slytherin duo, Frost would speak briefly. "I'm glad to have the chance to go up against a team as good as you two. Good luck!" Though they probably didn't need it, the Hufflepuff thought it would be a polite way to start off the match.

There isn't an awful lot of things that can get Dmitri feeling the least bit positive these days—but then again, there's something to be said for duelling.
The tension in the air, palpable and thick, radiating in waves both from the duellists at center stage and the spectators in the stands. Whenever Dmitri enters a room, there is always an undercurrent of discomfort and no small amount of disdain—and today was no exception.
Dmitri absolutely loved it.
He wasn't the charismatic bundle of enthusiasm and joy most of these people would prefer of their schoolmates, and that knowledge gave him power. The older Slytherin fed off of their regard—both positive and negative, letting his actions speak for themselves. Bolstered by the eyes trained on him, the boy just couldn't help but deliver a show worthy of his competence and skill.
They hated him for who he was, but not one of them can deny he deserved to be Slytherin Captain.
His eyes roamed the stands before homing in on his two opponents, noted the relatively nonchalant older Hufflepuff and the wide-eyed, deer-in-the-headlights expression of the younger one. With a smirk at the latter—one that bared a few of his teeth—and a dismissive glance at the former, Dmitri replied to their polite greeting of I'm glad to have the chance to go up against a team as good as you two. Good luck!
"Hm. Can't say the same."
At that quip, Dmitri turned to his partner, Ruby, and gave her a nod.
"Let's make this quick, Cazares. I don't have all day."
They were gonna win this one, and he'd quite like to watch his members' duels considering they'd prove to be much more interesting than... this.

Half a breath and the spells were already flying. Mars' eyes flicked over to Lea first, noticing that she'd chosen not to draw her wand. A grin spread over their face—dodging, huh? That was something they were familiar with.
At her side, Frost had chosen differently. The ever-familiar beam of light soared out of her outstretched wand, arching towards Dmitri. The Slytherin carefully avoided it, the sparks fizzling out behind him. Mars cocked their head to the side. No Curse of the Bogies to start out with then. Lucky him.
The Snake raised his wand to return the favor. Mars watched as it shot towards Frost... but then, it seemed to shake, splitting off to head for Lea as well. A Wind Jinx split? No, not quite. The gusts themselves were contained, heading off in their respective directions. Then he'd done that himself. Mars shivered. Impressive. Scary.
Lea's intense focus helped her out, easily ducking under the spell. Frost, on the other hand, was not so fortunate. The Hufflepuff was hit by a strong gust of wind, battering her body slightly. She'd have to push through it to even lift her wand, let alone side step another incoming spell. Mars studied the gust carefully. Hmmm.
After a moment, they realized something. One, two, three... huh. Seemed that Ruby hadn't moved this round. Well, no matter. It was still far too early to call this match.

Dmitri raised an eyebrow as he sidestepped a spell from the Hufflepuff Fourth Year across from him. The boy gave her a withering look that conveyed "really?" before answering her attack with one of his own—albeit more successful. A gust of wind buffeted the other team, and while it broke the older Hufflepuff's stride, Lea Hirsch seemed to have made some precautions, skipping away before it could do anything to her.
"I never knew students the same age as I am still utilized such... elementary spells," the boy quipped, referring to Frost's failed curse—something that had become familiar to him from the duels he'd watched of the Viridian Vipers.
It was a popular spell amongst inexperienced duellists.
"I'll leave it to my teammate to show you exactly what a duellist is capable of. Cazares, if you please." He stated without looking, still eyeing his opponents with a calculating stare—a testament to his reluctant confidence in the abilities of his partner. It was only until a few moments have passed without anything happening that Dmitri spun around in irritation to find Ruby just... standing there.
"What in the hell do you think you're doing? Move!"

Mentioning (briefly): @Frost Cira and @Lea HirschIt was early on a Sunday afternoon near the end of January and time for Ruby's second duel of the year. She was feeling more confident this round after the win last time and the practice she had gained since then, and any remaining nerves seemed to disappear as she took her spot on the duelling pitch. She felt like she deserved to be here, competing in a tournament that placed an emphasis on individual magical talent. This was a way to prove herself, to show herself, her parents, and anyone watching that she wasn't a failure and wasn't to be messed with.
She took her spot beside Slytherin's duelling captain, but when the duel started, she didn't cast when everyone else did, a little slow today. Frustrated at herself, she scowled. She couldn't afford to be slow, to be lesser, to fail. These were just some Hufflepuffs—one of whom looked nervous, and the other irritatingly positive. She could handle them easily, surely. So what was her issue? Why hadn't she cast? She shook her head slightly and snapped herself out of it. She had to keep moving forward. It didn't help that her partner was now annoyed at her, and he was very vocal about it. “Be quiet already if you wish to work together at all,” she hissed, and raised her wand to continue the duel. She would not let that brief failure be the thing that brought them down.Doing as strategised
