It was coming down to what would soon be the end of this duel. Dealla would start to feel like the very air around her was getting denser, and even standing was starting to become more of a chore; a little voice in the back of her head would be whispering that lying down was more manageable. But no, not this round, the girl would fight past the cold that was ever slowly winning. A blue light shot from her wand, whizzing at Amadea. Pericles had the same idea as his own brilliant blue light aimed at Amadea, but she was having none of their spells. Amadea would easily dodge both attacks as if she was naturally Flipendo repellant.

Amadea levied her wand at Pericles, but the boy was just too nimble, even in his weakened state. The black cloth that shot from Amadea’s wand would sail harmlessly past the boy. This, however, would not stop Lydia. The spell cast from her wand came with a vengeance giving Pericles no time to even think of dodging it. Before the boy knew it, he would be floating one meter in the air and at Lydia’s mercy.

The moment Lydia saw the two blue lights fly and aim towards Amadea, for a second she thought that things would take a turn for the worst for her teammate; being hit by one knockback jinx already hurt, and she could only imagine what it would have felt like to be hit by two of them.

But then Amadea gracefully avoided both spells, their lights going past her and missing b her completely. “Yes!” She thought in her head, as she felt a rush of adrenaline shoot through her; they got way too close to losing one ignored them, that couldn’t happen again.

The red headed Hufflepuff turned her gaze on Pericles, wondering what to do; he had been extremely agile for the whole duel, evading her spells left and right. If they wanted to win, they needed to make him stay still, but how?

Then, the solution came to her; she couldn’t immobilise him, but she could make it so he wouldn’t be able to move too easily. She aimed her want towards the Ravenclaw boy and, moving her wand just like Professor Vernatis has showed them during their first year, she flicked her wand, the spell leaving her lips in an easy way. “Wingardium Leviosa!”

A smile spread on her lips as she saw the boy start levitating, more or less 1 meter above the ground; she had finally managed to hit him, after quite a lot of spells that missed.

Concentrating her gaze on the boy, Lydia prepared for the next move.

𝓐madea was prepared for the next round. She readied herself, commanding "Obscuro!", watching as the blindfold emerged from her wand, flying toward Pericles. Unfortunately, the Ravenclaw boy was nimble as ever, easily avoiding her spell. Amadea herself was feeling nimble this round as well. It was almost instinctual she realized, as she quickly dodged out of the way of both of the Ravenclaw's spells. She didn't even really have to think about it; her body just moved out of instinct as she watched the spells fly. Lydia had an unobstructed path of vision to hit Pericles; perhaps it was because both of the Ravenclaws had aimed for Amadea leaving Lydia the ability to simply focus on casting rather than avoiding but her spell hit Pericles and seconds later he was floating in the air. Amadea smiled at Lydia, not wanting to speak in case it broke her concentration. Instead, she took a deep breath. This round had went well for them, but they certainly could not get cocky now. It was important for them to strategize well and continue casting well. Amadea prepared for the next round, trying to keep herself calm.

It was getting hard to move. She'd given up on cleaning her face a while ago, all of her attention and will needed to just keep her arm raised, on performing the wand motions correctly, things that were usually so deep ingrained into her muscle memory that no conscious thought was needed. She was vaguely aware that Pericles had said something, but hadn't managed to make out the words, which might have provided some comfort.

At least her focus paid off so far that her spell went off correctly this time, blue light flashing towards Amadea, but there was nothing she could do but watch as the older girl sidestepped her spell so easily that it didn't seem more than a minor inconvenience. Maybe she should be grateful that the Hufflepuffs were still concentrating fire on Pericles, because she was in no condition to dodge anything anymore - but she wasn't. At least drawing fire from her partner would have given her some purpose. Useless, useless. Her first duel, and she'd achieved nothing.

She knew she wouldn't make it much longer, and maybe it was a mercy.

Something told Santario this was the end of it, but she waited to wave the medics forward, not wanting to give the impression that she didn’t have faith in the Ravenclaw team. The last thing she wanted to do was drain their morale f they did manage to somehow survive these impossible odds.

Again Flipendo was the choice of the round as Dealla and Pericles sent Flipendo at Amadea, but the Hufflepuff would not be so lucky this round, and she would take both hits. There would be a feeling in the back of her head that the second one didn’t hit her as hard as it should have. Amadea also sent her own Flipendo at Pericles as Lydia maintained her concentration on making sure Pericles stayed in the air. Amadea’s Flipendo arced from her wand with more power than anticipated, and it hit Pericles head-on. The poor boy stood no chance while Lydia kept him in the air.

Four things would not happen, and in this order. One, Amadea would realize that she was barely standing; one flick on the tip of her nose could do her in if one was so inclined. Two, Pericles would be unconscious floating in the air, and Santario would walk into the ring and halt the duel. “Everyone stop! Lydia, do NOT release that spell! Maintain it until the medics get under him with a stretcher.” Three, Dealla could no longer fight the cold that was ravaging her body, and it would fall as if a marionette just had its strings cut. Lastly, two pair of medics would walk into the area, one set setting up a stretcher under Pericles to gently catch him, so he took no more damage from a fall, and the other carefully collecting Dealla. “Ladies and Gentleman, this concludes this duel. Congratulations Amadea and Lydia from Hufflepuff. You have officially won. If you need medical attention, please see the medics just over there.” She would motion in the direction they would need to go before leaving the platform.

This wasn't how she'd expected her first duel to go. Useless on the sidelines, fighting a cold she'd given herself more than the opposing team. Bitterness filled her in waves, would have left its traces on her tongue if her nose hadn't been so clogged up that it stifled any sense of taste she had. She was swaying on her feet, Amadea and Lydia little more than vague shapes across the stage, any sense she'd had of Pericles by her side eliminated by the grey and white fog lazily drifting towards her from her peripheral vision. Fog? How odd, had someone summoned it? She hadn't noticed. But it was curling closer, swallowing details on all sides, until all that was left was her vision forward, focused on one point, one target.

This spell felt like the last. It was by willpower more than anything else that she was still standing at all, and although she would never admit it, least of all to herself, her will was running out, too. One last spell. "Flipendo." Her voice sounded odd to her own ears, like something foreign, outside of her own body. The wand movement was mechanical, abrupt and choppy in its execution, but it was enough, and a blue light flashed from her wand. The Ravenclaw remained aware just long enough to see it connect with her target, and while it may not have made a difference, there was still a trace of relief that came with it. At last, she'd achieved something.

When Dee fell into the fog, her eyes drifting shut, there was a small smile on her face.

OOC: Congratulations to Lydia and Amadea for a deserved win, and thank you, San, for modding this duel for us!

Her eyes locked onto Pericles, Lydia tried her best to keep the boy levitating for the time being; if at the beginning she had been sure about her choice of spell, now she started to wonder what she could have done, beside keeping the Ravenclaw up in the air.

As she maintained her spell, Lydia couldn't help but watch in horror how both Dealla and Pericles hit Adamea, the Flipendos carefully aimed at the fourth year; for a second she though her teammate was going to faint, but when she saw her cast a knockback jiinx at Pericles, and hitting him, she felt relieved that she was okay.

The same thing could not be said for Pericles; he became unconscious, and Lydia, for a moment, felt herself panicking: she really needed to concentrate on keeping the boy away from the ground, she didn't want him to get even more hurt. Santario's words reached her and she nodded towards her, her eyes fixed on the Ravenclaw boy; she only looked away for a second when she saw Dealla fall to the ground, hoping that she didn't get hurt too much.

When the doctors arrived, Lydia gently lowered Pericles on the stretcher before walking towards her Co-Captain. "You did amazing Amadea!" she told her, a wide smile on her face. She was feeling sorry for the Ravenclaw team, and she hoped they would have been alright, but she also couldn't help the happiness she felt from winning the duel.

After that, she walked down from the platform and took a deep breath as she felt the residual anxiety leave her body; she had finished her very first duel and her team had won, that was quite an achivement for the day!
