You Don't Have a Mommy? You Can Borrow Mine
A six year old Simon to meet @Scarlet Salvatore

The best part of warmer Winter days for young Simon was that the sun still slipped down past the horizon in the early evening which meant he could enjoy some fresh air of the outdoors without the sun ray's hurting his skin. The six year old's favorite place to go was the Diana Memorial Playground in Kensington Gardens. Located next to Kensington Palace, the playground was a fitting tribute for a princess who loved the innocence of childhood.
There children could play, explore, dash about, and let their imaginations soar in the magical space. There is a sensory trail, teepees, a beach around the pirate ship, and various toys and play sculptures, all set against a backdrop of trees and plants.
Simon held onto his Aunt Maggie's hand as he skipped along. As he did so, he sang a song to the tune of Jingle Bells.
"Skipping feet, skipping feet,
Skipping feet all day.
Oh what fun it is to skip,
The whole day away. HEY!"
And he said the last part with more enthusiasm and jumped a longer jump. They were at the entrance! His favorite areas were the pirate ship, the wobble bridge, and the play hut village. That particular evening he had his heart set on the pirate ship and took off straight down the path, passing all the other awesome attractions that the park had with only the one destination in mind!
Aunt Maggie, a young woman of twenty, easily kept up with the young boy. She knew how important it was for him to get outdoors and knew how rare it was for him due to his genetic condition which caused an aversion to sunlight.
"I'll be at the picnic table, Spirited Simon," he heard her say as she gave a smile. "Come when it's starting to get dark."
He nodded. "Aye, aye, m'lady!" he quickly shouted and hurried over to the play structure. He ran through the sandy beach where the huge wooden pirate ship was located. He ran around it, exploring below deck first. Any treasure?! He took some of the buckets around and began to dig in the sand to find out. Nay, there be no pirate loot today!
"BATTEN DOWN THE HATCHES!" he said as he jumped up on to the ship. Young Simon had no idea what that meant, but he knew it sounded very piratey and was quite proud of himself for saying it. He leaned up against the ship's edge and looked out toward the picnic tables, seeing his aunt. She saw him peeking and waved. "Land-lubber..." he whispered, shaking his head. "Raise the Jolly Roger, me hearties! Trim Sail!" and he began to climb up the crow's nest. Higher and higher he climbed and just as he got to the top, a bird came diving straight toward him. He could see its beady little eyes and it's very pointy beak coming straight toward him and so he ducked in an attempt to avoid the collision. "Blimey!" Ye left me bum-squabbled, ye have!" and he laughed, attempting to play it off, when he lost his balance. Simon slipped. Simon fell.
There was sand below which broke his fall for the most part, but he did land on a shovel that was scattered about, which caused a scrape upon his knee. Startled for a moment, he just remained there motionless but then he went to sit up as tears began to form in the young boy's brown eyes.
He looked over his shoulder to where his Aunt Maggie was and saw her helping an older couple. It seemed the wife was having a bit of trouble with her husband and she was helping him get into his wheelchair. That was nice of her. He didn't want to call out and interrupt her kindness so he looked back down to his knee before starting to cry.

Scarlet loved it when her parents took her on trips to different parts of the city, normally it was when they both had to go to the Ministry for work and her aunt was unable to look after her - which was hardly ever. Of course she loved the days with her aunt, but the rarity of these trips made them feel special. When her mother had first told her that morning that they were having a day out in the city, Scarlet had asked if they were visiting her grandparents, they never did.
"No, we're not going to the same place they are," her mother had told her, she probably would have been more disappointed if she knew them better, "it's a park day today!" Scarlet had started running around the kitchen at this point, "park! park! park!" she chanted. It quickly became a tradition to spend the day at a new park whenever it was just the two of them, they had been to four so far, the last being her favourite by far with massive wooden structures for her to play on, and a massive lake in the middle.
"Come on," her mother said, gesturing towards her half empty plate of pancakes now long forgotten by Scarlet, "we can't go until that plate is empty." With that Scarlet quickly finished off the remaining food, not pausing to say another word, her mother giggling as she watched.
...
"They've got sand!" Scarlet exclaimed, tugging on her mother's arm. This park was unlike any Scarlet had seen before, a giant wooden pirate ship sat in the centre of a tree lined area of sand, to the left of it, an assortment of different sized rocks jutting out from the sand. Mentally marking the biggest rock as her target she ran over and hopped onto the smallest one closest to her, looking back, she watched as her mother sat down at a nearby bench, giving Scarlet a little wave.
"Quickly, the water's rising!" Scarlet shouted, as if imitating the warning from another towards herself. She moved quickly between rocks, imaging a rapidly rising tide and losing her footing on every other one, all the time moving closer to the largest one in the distance. Finally she got to the last jump, "hurry!" she said, egging herself on to make the jump; pushing off from the rock, she landed - just - with one foot fully on the large rock and pulled herself up.
Surveying the area around her she caught a glimpse of a boy at the top of the pirate ship, "fall back to the ship, it's our only chance to escape!" she cried out to her imaginary crewmates. Hopping down from the rock, Scarlet sprinted towards the ship, dodging from the dangerous fish and sharks she imagined were jumping from the water. Reaching the plank bridge onto the ship she looked up to where the boy was standing, a confused look now on her face, 'where'd he go' she thought to herself, and then she heard it, the faint sound of crying.
Scarlet started to circle the ship until she eventually came to the boy. He was sitting in the sand, his gaze focussed on his bleeding knee. "Hello, are you okay," Scarlet said, announcing her presence to the boy, she walked over and took a seat next to him in the sand, "what did you do to your knee?" she asked, curious about the boy's injury. Scarlet could see the boy was upset and probably in pain, she wasn't quite sure what to do to help, "my name's Scarlet, what's yours?" she asked, "where's your mommy, I'll go get her," she continued, even if she couldn't help him, she was sure his mother would make it all better.

You Don't Have a Mommy? You Can Borrow Mine
Introductions with @Scarlet Salvatore
In his six year old mind, Simon thought he would sit there until his aunt was done helping that older couple. He didn't feel bad because it seemed the old many needed the help and the old woman appreciated it so much. He looked back to his knee, watching it as the pain continued.
He stifled his crying for a moment when the girl approached him because she began with a greeting and asked how he was doing. That was nice. And he had been brought up to have good manners and if someone spoke to you, you spoke to them in return. Common courtesy. Being a gentleman. "Hi...," he said softly. "I'm...bleeding," he stated the obvious. "I fell from the crow's nest because there was a pesky bird wanting to share spaces with me but there wasn't enough room up there for the both of us."
With his gaze still down on his knee, he had yet to look up to the girl that had approached him. Being hurt wasn't something he was used to very often, as he spent most of his time indoors and with safe activities like reading or playing music. "My name...my name was Captain Spike Shadow but now it's just Simon. Simon Kincaid," he said, now lifting his eyes to the young girl who looked to be his age. Something about her seemed kind and he gave her a small smile, feeling a little better already.

Scarlet started to wonder if she would have to make some kind of makeshift bandage for the boy, she wasn't sure how long it would take for his knee to start getting better, 'maybe I'll have to use my hoodie to help it heal,' she wondered, looking down at her teal coloured zip-up hoodie, 'might get a bit dirty though,' she thought, dismissing the idea.
She looked back up towards the crow's nest of the ship as the boy explained how he had fallen, she spotted a bird sat proudly on the railing at the top and wondered if it was the same one he was talking about.
"My name...my name was Captain Spike Shadow but now it's just Simon. Simon Kincaid," the boy said, introducing himself. 'Captain Spike Shadow,' she repeated to herself, it sounded amazing, she couldn't believe she hadn't chosen a pirate name for herself yet.
"Great to meet you Simon," she replied, noting the 'was' in his introductions, "just so Captain Spike Shadow knows, I go by Captain... Scarly Silver-Tongue on deck," she quickly added, pausing to think of the name. The boy glanced towards her, away from his injury, Scarlet was happy to see that he was now smiling, even if was only a little one.
"You can't go get my mommy. I don't have one," he said responding to her offer. She felt the sadness in Simon's voice, knowing what he had meant by the statement, and the smile quickly fell away from her face, she couldn't think of anything to say, and knew nothing could ease the pain of the fact.
"Sorry," she said, "but I can get mine, she'll help, she'll get the bleeding to stop, I'm sure," she added, turning towards the direction of where her mum had gone to sit, but then something popped into her mind. "Wait, so did you come here by yourself?" Scarlet asked, remembering how far she had travelled with her mum to get here, "or did you come with a friend?" she proposed, thinking of a more realistic solution to her question, waiting for Simon to correct her with the facts.

You Don't Have a Mommy? You Can Borrow Mine
Back to pirates with Scarlet Salvatore
Simon winced a little when she mentioned the word bleeding. He wasn't around blood very often but it made him feel terribly uneasy. Somehow though, this being his own, made him not as uneasy so that was good. "I uh," he paused, trying to focus on her questions. His eyes still lingered on his knee and the terrible shape that he felt it was in.
"I came here with my aunt. My Aunt Maggie," he explained and looked over back towards the table. The old woman now had her hand out on Maggie's shoulder, thanking her for helping with her husband that was in the wheelchair. That somehow to Simon, who knew it was proper to help others, seemed more important than his knee issue.
"I think I just need me-self a bandage and then I can go back to sailing the dastardly seas! No need for a peg-leg just yet, me heartie." He gave a slight smile now, and since he wasn't focused so much on the pain - there wasn't as much pain. Maybe it was mostly in his head.
"I dare not think there would be a better crew than Captain Spike Shadow and his trusted companion, Captain Scarly Silver-Tongue! What do you say, lass? Shall we tally ho and team up?"
He had heard some of her pirate talk just before he fell and he had been rather impressed. In fact, once he got to the top of the crow's nest (before that bloody bird caused the fall) he was going to introduce himself.

Scarlet followed the boy's gaze at the mention of his aunt and saw young dark blonde woman and an elderly couple, the former looked preoccupied helping out the couple. At this distance, the younger woman reminded Scarlet of her own aunt, she found that quite amusing.
Concentrating on Simon again, she thought that it might be best to just get her mother to help. Looking back towards the bench she had seen her mother sit down at, she was happy to find her mother still sat there, reading a book she had brought with her.
"Come on then, if we want to set sail before nightfall we need to get you all checked out," she said, beginning to extend her arm towards the boy, "wait, yeah you wait here actually," she said, reconsidering her proposal after catching another glimpse of his knee. She began running towards her mother, "we'll be on those waters again soon," she called back to Simon excitedly.
"Muuuumm," she called out as she neared her mother, "Simon's hurt his knee, he was fighting evil crows on the ship," she continued, pointing back to where the boy was sat.
"Who's Simon?" she asked worriedly whilst getting up from the bench and beginning to follow Scarlet as she led the woman back towards the injured boy.
"He's my friend, well co-captain I guess," she replied, just as they rounded the side of the wooden pirate ship, bringing Simon into view again.
"Hello Simon," Scarlet's mother, Grace, said as she knelt knelt down near the boy, "can I have a look at your knee?" Grace asked.
Should Simon allow Scarlet's mother to look over his knee, she would take out her clean handkerchief from her pocket and dust away the bits of sand from the cut, and knowing it was only a light surface graze would say, "you've been really brave, and you must be super strong because the bleeding has stopped already!"

He looked down at his knee and saw that it had and smiled, perking up even more. Oh the power of suggestion. Sometimes a grownup just had to say you were fine at that age to know you were fine. Reassurance.
"Thanks," he said to her and watched as Scarlet's mother brought a bandaid out from her purse and placed it on him. "I didn't want to disturb my aunt because she's been helping that older couple over there by the picnic table. Thank you for helping me," he said, showing his good manners. He was a kind boy.
He looked back over to the girl and smiled, feeling more confident now that things were all back to normal. He had heard her tell her mum that he was her co-captain. Time to get back to duty!
"Come now, Captain Scarly! This boat won't sail itself! Time to board! Hoist the sails!" and with that he gave a small smile to Scarlet's mom in another form of thank you and then boarded the ship.
He had his bag still nearby him, a bag he had brought with him and placed upon the wooden pirate ship when he first got on it - before the fall. "It be a minor slip in schedule, Cap, but time to get back on track. But first...we raise our drinks and we toast to a near death experience gone our way! Ye saved me life, Captain Scarly," and he pulled out a bottle of water and handed it to her before grabbing another for himself.

Scarlet watched her mother intently as she cleaned up Simon's knee, she had of course seen her mother do many impressive and wonderful things, often stuff Scarlet couldn't understand that her mother had labelled as 'magic' and something she would learn when she was old enough. But making people feel better, as she was doing with Simon, as she had done with Scarlet many times before, was different - there was no magic, well unless she made those special bandages, but even so didn't do any of that outside the house.
Once her mother was done, she stood back up from her kneeling position in the sand and smiled down at the two of them, Scarlet returned a thankful smile and turned back towards Simon, who was now in much higher spirits. "Come now, Captain Scarly! This boat won't sail itself! Time to board! Hoist the sails!" he said, smiling to her mother before heading to the ship.
"Thanks Mom!" Scarlet called back to her mother, running after Simon to the giant ship, "prepare to raise the anchor," she yelled, and briefly noticed her mother walking in the direction of Simon's aunt as she climbed to a higher point on the ship where Simon was.
"It be a minor slip in schedule, Cap, but time to get back on track. But first...we raise our drinks and we toast to a near death experience gone our way! Ye saved me life, Captain Scarly," he said, presenting her with a bottle of water.
"Of course," Scarlet replied, "we pirates have to look out for each other," she said, accepting the water from him. "To this new crew, and the next big adventure. Let's find some treasure!" Scarlet proposed whilst raising her bottle to meet with Simon's, after which she took a few large gulps from the bottle, not realising how big of a thirst she had worked up already.
"Right," she began, screwing the cap back on her bottle and settling it down on the deck of the ship, "what's our heading?" she asked Simon. "Looks like there's a storm coming," she said looking up to the clear skies of London, imagining dark, unsettled storm clouds forming above, "wait a minute," she began and ran towards the front of the ship. "We've got a whirlpool dead ahead Captain Spike Shadow!" Scarlet shouted back to him, looking ahead at what she pictured as a giant raging circle of water in front of the ship, creating a big gaping hole in the sea, "what do you think we should do Captain?" she asked Simon.

You Don't Have a Mommy? You Can Borrow Mine
Pirates ahoy with @Scarlet Salvatore
"QUICK! You take the helm," he said, meaning the giant wooden steering wheel that was there on the boat just on the main platform, "and prepare to hold tight. I'll tighten the sails," and he paused, trying to think what was next. A whirlpool...a giant whirlpool, dead ahead. What DID one really do for that?
"Steer us straight, maybe we can go straight over!" he shouted and tugged at a rope that made some fabric above lower, as if he truly was tightening the sails. "And I'll send message to the magical merpeople. There's got to be something they can do to assist in our safety!"
Magical merpeople. Wouldn't that be great? Sadly, they were as mythical as pirates to him.
Little did he know that in the years to come, he would find out that pirates were once real and even more mind blowing - merpeople were real. As were unicorns, dragons, and magic. He would eventually encounter a truly new world and not only would he become part of it, but so would this friend of his. They would enter into Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry as wizard and witch.
However that wouldn't be their only connection to that magical world. Scarlet would eventually become a werewolf and have to learn their ways and Simon would eventually discover that he was something called a dhampir - a product of one human parent and the other vampire.
At least they had each other to help them along their path, through the smooth sailing and the whirlpools ahead.
[OOC: Up to you, but I was thinking this could maybe be the ender for this thread and maybe we could start now with another - whether that be when Scarlet finds out she's a werewolf, when they both get their letters, or whatever it is you have in mind!]
